Automatically Copy Database To Another Pc

Nov 25, 2006

When I create a setup program for my vb.net 1.0 app which has embedded sql express database, it successfully copies the database to the new machine alone with the upgraded app.

However, if I just copy the vb.exe app to the other pc and also copy the mdf, ldf files, I get an error opening the sql database.

I am presuming that the setup program does some kind of backup restore or detach, attach to copy in the .mdf.

If the user cannot do this from the management studio (or if they do not have the management studio installed), is there any way I can create some method to have this copying done automatically via some code by the user?

Thanks

SM Haig

Import Flat File Automatically?

May 30, 2006

Hi,

I'm going to be getting several flat files that need to be imported into one of two tables. Although the text files will have different file names, they will have either "Header" or "Detail" in the file name, so I can tell which table they need to be imported into.

The problem is I don't know enough about SQL Server 2005 to set up an automated import of these files into the database. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to do this, or have any experience in setting this up? Are there any inexpensive programs to load data realtime or on a schedule? (I work for a young company with a very tight budget).

I had an idea of creating a windows vb or batch program to create the import commands for each of the flat files, but I can't find the line command to build the import command.

I'm just at a loss and need a solution soon...

Thanks,

Laura

SQL Server 2008 :: SSIS Copy File From SharePoint Library Using File System Task Permissions?

Jun 19, 2015

Historically I've always written a VB script to copy a file from a sharepoint library. I don't like this method because I have to input a username & password in the script and maintain a config file.

Yesterday I was playing around with using a file system task. The sharepoint file has a UNC path so why not? I created a simple test package with a single file system task that copies the sharepoint file (addressed via UNC) to another network location. Package runs fine locally.

I try running on our utility server but am getting a "The file name [SHAREPOINT UNC PATH] specified in the connection was not valid" error. Package is running with a proxy on the server and the proxy account has the same permissions to the sharepoint site (so far as I can tell) as me.

Read A File Name From Network Folder Automatically For A BULK INSERT

Jul 18, 2007

Hi again all,

Is there a way to read a file name automatically from a network folder? I can successfully bulk insert from this particular folder. The next step is as I add files, I wish to bulk insert the latest file added so the program must make that determination and import that specific file. I can delete the older files if necessary and save them elsewhere but it would still be nice to be able to read the file name. I then wish to store the name of this file, whatever it is, into a field called "SourceFileName" in my table that I am bulk inserting into. Does anyone have an example in dynamic SQL? Thanks.

SQL Agent Jobstep Output File Contains Automatically Generated Header

Mar 28, 2007

Hi,

I've created a stored procedure that creates a script to create a number of objects within the database (based on what existing objects are in the database). From Management Studio, this works fine, and the output is exactly as I want it.

I'm now trying to create a job that will execute this stored procedure, and deposit the results into a file somewhere on the server. When the job runs, the script is created in the correct place and is essentially ok.

However, there are a couple of questions I'd like to ask.

Why does SQL Server Agent put a header at the top of the output file? I was hoping to be able to use that output file 'as is' and execute it automatically to recreate my objects when required. (Obviously, I can manually remove the header, but this is an inconvenience in this situation). How do I stop it?

Also, when executed from SSMS, the output is correctly line-spaced. But, the output from the scheduled job adds an extra line between each line of text, which is, again, inconvenient. Why does it do this, and how can I prevent this (again, without manually editting the output)?

Any thoughts and help greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Simon

Xml File And Automatically Parse NODE Names Into A Memory Variable Table

Sep 13, 2014

Ok I am faced with working with XML on a regular basis, which is fine.

DECLARE @ViewSN INT
IF NOT EXISTS (select null from tblviews where viewcode = 'loadAtTerm') --<workflowEventType>loadAtTerminal</workflowEventType>
insert into tblviews (ViewName,Description,OutBoundForm,StoredProcSN,TriggersReply,ViewCode,DispXactLayer,DispXactViewType,DispXfcTag,Comments)
select 'QC:WF-LoadAtTerminal','This View Corresponds to the XML for loadAtTerminal in Omnitracs Workflow','0',NULL,'0', 'loadAtTerm','MCOM','MCOM',NULL,NULL

[code]...

What would be really useful is to be able to present any xml file and automatically parse the NODE names into a memory variable table and then the fields of each node in another.

File..Save Copy Of &&<package File&&> As... Not Available

Mar 27, 2006

According to the help for SSIS, one method of deploying an SSIS package
to a SQL Server,
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms137565.aspx, is to use the
File...Save a Copy of <package file> as... menu option.

I don't have that menu option at all.  And yes, the package is in
focus.  My save menu options are simply; Save Selected, Save
<package file> As... and Save All.

I am using Version 9.00.1399.00 of the SSIS Designer.

At one time I did have the Management Studio's CTP installed.
However it was uninstalled before installing the tools from the
Standard Edition.  (it would seem like not completely however)

Your help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanx much.

p.s. Almost forgot to mention... I am already aware of using the
DTSInstall utility as a workaround.  It should be noted, however,
that despite enabling the "CreateDeploymentUtility" property, the
DTSInstall.exe is not copied to the binDeployment directory.

The SSE Provider Did Not Find The Database File Specified In The Connection String. At The Configured Trust Level (below High Trust Level), The SSE Provider Can Not Automatically Create The Database File.

Aug 31, 2007

The problem that I am having is that with Visual Web Developer I am creating a webpage and having it directly put online, so for example when I start a new ASP.NET page, I select the location to be HTTP, with the location http://MYWEBSERVER/Website   and for the language and Visual BasicI notice a couple of things, first that there is no longer a a link under the Main toolbar "Website" selection called the ASP.NET configuration.  So how can I configure what I want to have users be able to do?  It seems that this choice is only available if I am building the ASP.NET page on my "localhost".  So that is the first problem.  So I am able to get the pages to work, atleast the things such as the textboxes to show up etc, (Even things as advanced as the "Login" box).  How ever when I try to get someone to try to login  I am taken to a page that has an server error.  The error is:
"The SSE Provider did not find the database file specified in the connection string. At the configured trust level (below High trust level), the SSE provider can not automatically create the database file. "
The Stack Trace Errors are at the bottom.  I think this is happening because the automatically generated databases are not getting built online as they are on my computer.  On my computer I have MSSQL express.  So either the databases are not getting built for some reason, (and I think that is the case as I don't see any in the folder).  So I think that somehow I have to create a database on my server, and then somehow configure the ASP.NET file, perhaps in the Web.Config file to look for that new database.  Is this the correct methodology?   Is there some simpler way that I can just somehow upload things as they are and have them work correctly on my server?   The error says that either the Server did not find the database or that the trust level was insufficient.  I don't think that is it as I just looked again and I don't see any .MDF files.  So how would I go about getting this to work right? Is there a way to do this with MySQL also?  So that I don't have to use MSSQL?  My server only allows 1 DataBase for that.
Thanks and I hope my question makes sense.  It is basically how can I get it to be able to create and check users etc. online?

Cannot Copy The Mdf File After Processing

Feb 1, 2007

I have a windows service that connects to a regular sql server 2005 database and basically bulk copies data into a SQL express database. Afterwards, I just want to copy the MDF file into a different directory. I keep getting the "Process cannot access file because it is being used by another process" error. I've tried changing the connection strings but nothing seems to work. I'm closing the connections in the code as well. Here is the code. Any thoughts or help would be appreciated. RefreshDB calls Sync 3 times and if all three calls are successful, it attempts to copy the database file to the specified location. This is where I get the error.

Public Function RefreshDB() As Boolean
Dim success As Boolean = True
Dim tables() As String = {"Job", "Equipment", "PMScheduled"}
For Each tableName As String In tables
If SyncTable(tableName) = False Then
success = False
Exit For
End If
Next
If success Then
'copy the new database to the target directory
Try
File.Copy(My.Settings.DBFilePath, My.Settings.TargetDirectory + "EMField.mdf")
Catch ex As Exception
My.Application.Log.WriteEntry(ex.Message + "(RefreshDB)", TraceEventType.Critical)
Return False
End Try
End If
Return success
End Function

Private Function SyncTable(ByVal tableName As String) As Boolean
Dim reader As SqlDataReader
Dim sourceViewName As String = String.Format("EMField{0}View", tableName)
Dim connectionString As String = My.Settings.EMFieldConnectionString
'insert the path to the database into the connectionstring
connectionString = connectionString.Replace("[DBFilePath]", My.Settings.DBFilePath)
Try
'clear the target table first
Using targetConnection As New SqlConnection(connectionString)
Using truncateCommand As New SqlCommand(String.Format("TRUNCATE TABLE {0}", tableName), targetConnection)
targetConnection.Open()
truncateCommand.ExecuteNonQuery()
targetConnection.Close()
End Using
End Using
'create a datareader from the source database
Using sourceConnection As New SqlConnection(My.Settings.EMLiteConnectionString)
Using readCommand As New SqlCommand(String.Format("SELECT * FROM {0}", sourceViewName), sourceConnection)
sourceConnection.Open()
reader = readCommand.ExecuteReader
BulkCopy(tableName, reader, connectionString)
reader.Close()
sourceConnection.Close()
End Using
End Using
Return True
Catch ex As SqlException
My.Application.Log.WriteEntry(ex.Message + "(sync)", TraceEventType.Critical)
Return False
End Try
End Function

Public Sub BulkCopy(ByVal tableName As String, ByRef reader As SqlDataReader, ByVal connectionString As String)
Try
'bulk copy from source to target database
Using bulkCopy As New SqlBulkCopy(connectionString)
bulkCopy.DestinationTableName = tableName
bulkCopy.WriteToServer(reader)
bulkCopy.Close()
End Using
Catch ex As SqlException
'throw exception back to calling sub
Throw ex

Copy Content Of Txt File

Nov 6, 2006

Hi Guys,

What approach should I use to copy content of a text file. Is BCP capable of doing this? How about SSIS?

Example of the text file's content:

Date, "20060101"
ST_Code, "101"
A_Code, P_Code, T_Code, amount, price
"0001", "1111", "0101", 550, 230
"0002", "1111", "0102", 345, 122
"2001", 0212", 0930", 410, 90

In the example above, I just want to copy the rows Date, "20060101" and ST_Code, "101" into a table.
