How To Restore Sql Server 2000 Db Backup Into Sql Server 2005 Express Edition
Hi Friends,
I have installed SQL server 2005 Express Edition and SQL Server management
I have a SQL server 2000 db backup file. I try create a new database in my SQL server 2005 express Edition and try restore that backup file from device, it only searching for file with *.bak and *.tm extension! I tried generate backup file with .bak extension and tried restore into SQl server 2005 express edition but still it is not allowing to do so! I also tried copy my database's data file and log file and paste it under SQL server 2005 express edition Data folder and still not able to read the tables.
Is that any ways to do restoring for this SQL server 2000 backup file into SQL server 2005 express edition! Anybody can help me on this please...:eek:

Hi All This is a very urgent requirement of my client having 200 stores and one Head office. the HO has just installed SQL-Server 2005, The HO sends small backups of the data related to stock transfer which needs to be restored at stores. It was working find when both the HO and stores were SQL-Server 2000. but the process has come to a dead halt as the HO has SQL-Server 2005. Restore Backup From SQL Server 2000 In SQL Server 2005?
I was running Small Business Server 2003 with MS SQL Server 2000. I put backups of all my SQL Server 2000 databases on hard disk d: and the operating system and applications on c:/. I then reformatted c:/ (but left d:/ intact) and installed Windows XP Home. Then I installed MS SQL Server 2005 Developer's Edition. I would like to now restore the backups of the SQL Server 2000 databases (still intact on drive d:/) to SQL Server 2005, but I get a variety of error messages. I suspect that I am going about this the wrong way. I have done several hours of research in the documentation without success. I cannot attach the SQL Server 2000 database to SQL Server 2005 because it is a backup, not a database. I cannot migrate the databases as part of the installation of SQL Server 2005 because (a) they are back-ups, and (b) I don't have SQL Server 2000 installed when I install SQL Server 2005. Can SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Coexist With SQL Server 2000 Enterprise?
Not sure if this was posted but having a hard time finding an answer. I'm currently running sql server 2000 enterprise edition on my machine and was wondering what would happen if i installed 2005 express edition and vice versa? I've found many blogs and post about compatibility issues with the 2005 Express Beta version but couldn't find any news with full version. Upsizing Access 2000 DB To SQL Server 2005 Express Edition
Hi I have an Access 2000 Database which I am upsizing to SQL Server 2005 Express Edition. The Database has 29 tables and 60 stored queries. Each time I upsize to SQL Server the tables come in fine but non of the queries are imported. All of the queries are very simple Select, Insert, Update and Delete Queries with nothing special in them. I have tried using the upsizing wizard in Access 2003 and also the SQL Server 2005 Migration Assistant for Access. Is there anything special I need to do in the migration assistant to ensure that the queries are imported as well. Cheers Redav

Problem Migrating Application Database From SQL Server 2000 To Express Edition 2005
Hi there I am new to SQL Server, but the current project that I am working on has the following requirement:- 1) Migrate the application (a servlet based web application on Apache Tomcat) from Solaris to Wintel 2) Migrate the supporting database from SQL Server 2000 to Sql Server 2005 3) Get IIS to communicate with Tomcat for serving servlet/jsp etc to the client Though I successfully completed item 1 above, am stuck at item 2. Details are below Actions taken for item 2 A. Installed MS 2005 B. Created new database in MS 2005 (logged in as user 'sa') C. Generated SQL scripts (such as create table table_A etc) from existing MS 2000 D. Genearted SQL scripts (such as insert into table_A etc) from existing MS 2000 E. Created new schema in MS 2005 F. Ran scripts C & D in the new schema. All tables are records populated. G. Obtained new JDBC driver and test run to see if connection is working fine, and it worked. Even ran an sql statment Code Block[select count(*) from sa.table_A] and got appropriate response. H. When I made the application to talk to this new database (which is a copy of Production from step C, D above), it's behaving as though it cannot find the record. I. When I further debugged, I realised that the web application is excuting queries without mentioning the schema. For eg. Code Block[Select firstName, lastName from table_A] Or rather it assumes that the user connecting to database is same as the schema name. J. To further ascertain my point, I ran the query Code Block[Select firstName, lastName from sa.table_A] and it worked! Now the real problem is that I cannot modify the existing code to append a schema name and this approach is rather not recommended best practise. I tried to match the user name with the schema name, even made this schema as default to the user. But still not finding any luck. Windows CE 5 Device With SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition Sync With SQL Server 2005 Express Edition
I have: A server computer running SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition. A industrial computer running SQL Server 2005 Express Edition. And now also a Psion WorkAboutPro with CE 5 that should run SQL Server Compact Edition. The industrial computer syncs its data with the server, basically saying "this has happened". Now I want the Psion to sync with the industrial computer, but this sync must two-way. I have tried to find a guide or something that can tell me "do this to sync" but the information i have found is sketchy at best. Restore EXPRESS Edition Backup To SQL Server2005
I have sent a backup file I created in SQL Express to a client who has full version of MS SQL Server 2005. They tell me that they cannot restore from the backup. I do not know what errors (if any they get, but am chasing them up for more details) Is there a known problem restoring an Express .BAK file to SQL 2005? The backups restore fine within SQLExpress. Replicating From SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition To Remote SQL Server 2005 Express Edition
Hello, I have been unable to create a replication from an SQL Server 2005 standard edition database to remote SQL Server 2005 Express Edition. The remote express edition is on a Virtual Private Server we are leasing from a hosting company. The name of the remote DB is similar to vs572.si-vs572.com. I can connect to this with SQL server authentication through Management Studio and also with SSIS. But, I have been unable to create a push subscription (I have tried a test push subscription with the same publication to a local SQL Express server here in our office and this works fine). Here is the error message: SQL Server Replication requires the actual server name to make a connection to the server. Connections through server alias, IP address, or any other alternate name are not supported. Specify the actual server name, 'VS572SQLEXPRESS'. The hosting company had originally installed a shared SQL server which would not support replication. They then installed SQL Express edition and I was hoping this would allow us to run a replication. I tried to connect to VS572SQLEXPRESS with out any luck. I check the remote connections, made sure replication was installed, etc., but no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you, Albert

Hello.. I've installed Visual Basic 2005 express edition & tried to connect to SQL Server 2005 express edition. I noticed that VB2005 Express Edition doesn't have any OLEDB provider for SQL Server. The only OLEDB Provider is for M.Access. Is this correct? if so, what should i do if i want to connect SQL Server 2005 express edition with VB2005 express edition by using OLEDB connection type? SQL Server 2000 Backup / Restore Bug
Hello! I have a bug in SQL Server 2000 that I would like to discuss. The bug is described briefly on http://support.microsoft.com/kb/821334. "The potential for inconsistency in the backup history tables backupset and backupmediafamily is resolved. This issue may cause the restore process to point to the wrong backup files." According to my experiences the bug is extremely serious. SQL Server backup and restore operations are not fully reliable. If you have a disaster situation there is a possibility that you can not perform a restore. Technically a media_family_id is generated in a backup operation and inserted into msdb.dbo.backupmediafamily. What could happen is that a media_family_id, that already exists in backupmediafamily, is generated. The bug is fixed from version 8.00.0859, but only if you have an special undocumented trace flag (3003) enabled. Here is the information that I have got from Microsoft about this trace flag. "Trace flag 3003 changes how SQL generates media_set_id for new backup files. It will guarantee that new media_set_id values in backupset table are unique when you create a new file with your backup. This is the only place in code where TF 3003 is used so it will not impact your SQL Server operations." I have a SQL Server with 80 databases. I have a maintenance plan with full backup every 24 hours and log backup every 5 minutes. The error happened on my server a few times every 24 hours. I believe it's a general problem. Hello everybody! I'm trying to configure a ReportServer in a Non-DefaltWebSite in my server. During the Reporting Server Configuration's process, everything works fine! All the informations are accept. But, when I try to access the address http://myserver.com/reportserver (or http://myserver.com/reports) a login message box is shown. I've already tried to enable a lot of user accounts, but with no success! I've read some articles that try to explain how to install a ReportServer in a Non-DefaultWebSite, but its doesn't work too. Installing SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition When Express 2005 Is Already On Server
I need to install SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition on a new Windows Server 2003 machine that has SQL Server 2005 Express Edition installed by a backup application (Backup Exec). Will I need to uninstall the express edition in order to install the standard edition? Can the two coexist as separate instances or will the standard edition installation simply upgrade the express installation? Thanks

Restore Clustered SQL Server 2000 From Backup On Local Drive
We are attempting to restore one of our databases from a backup that went to a local drive on the server. We see the backupset in the list but receive an error that it is not available when we try to use it. When we try to restore from device and select the files the drive letter is not available. When we attempt to enter the path to the file it can't locate it. We don't have space on our SAN to copy the backup there and we can't add the local drive to the cluster resources. Is there a way to get this backup done?

Hello, SQL Server 2005 TR with IU/QUS - Restore from a backup Im trying to set-up the above using sp1. It all works fine until the final step, creating a subscription through sp_addarticle and Im getting the following error: Msg 8152, Level 16, State 10, Procedure sp_MSget_synctran_commands, Line 198 String or binary data would be truncated. This worked fine on my laptop with a small table with a couple of columns.Now Ive looked at this error and its like select * from #art_commands The table only has 49 columns in it, so its not huge. What are my options for solving/getting around this problem: 1. Try and fix sp_MSget_synctran_commands, from memory, #art_commands has a nvarchar(max) column and Im wondering if this is related. must admit, havent really looked solidly at this sp yet. 2. SP2 doesnt look like it fixes this problem. 3. Create a bespoke method to replicate. 4. anymore for anymore? It will be impossible to synchronize the databases so this restore from backup was my only option. Im a bit stuck now, can anyone help? many thanks, John P

SQL Server 2005 For TFS Backup&&Restore
Hi, Our Sharepoint of TFS was down a couple of days ago. By luck, we had fully backed up SQL database. Now, the problem is, I uninstalled everything and tried to move TFS to a new server machine on the domain. I installed freshly everything and tried to restore all the databases (with tables also). Now the problems are these: 1 - Since there are lots of different backup-restore procedures telling on the Internet from some forums and this forum also: What should i do basically to make the configuration of Sharepoint and Reporting Services to make them work correctly? 2 - Secondly, even if i fail in the problem above, I, at least, want to save the source control files and sharepoint files. Where can I find them and how can I take them back to my new TFS installation? 3 - If these problems exist and Suppose on a new project on the new installation, i create new WI's, documents (with new Version Control information), and new SPS configuration. And on a new release,the problems are resolved. Is there some way that I can merge the former Backup with the new installation's database?

Hello there, I've some really big problems with SQL Server 2005 Express. I Recently, I had 2 instances on my machine, one was a SQL Server 2000 Developer and the other a 2005 Express Version. The 2000 version was not necessary anymore, so I unstalled it, since then, the Express version keeps having probems. Under the Server Properties -> Database settings -> Database Locations I've changed the path to D:sqldatamssql, but now, the programm always takes the "C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLData" to store and load the databases, no matter what I do. And there are more problems see here: Restoring does not work======================= I wanted to restore a database called "fw40_admin" from a backup file (.bak), but that didn't work at all, it always says this as an error: "System.Data.SqlClient.SqlError: The operating system returned the error '5(error not found)' while attempting 'RestoreContainer::ValidateTargetForCreation' on 'D:sqldatamssqlfw40_admin.mdf'. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Express.Smo)" But as soon as I type in the installation path "C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLData" inside the "Restore As" under "Options", it works. Why does the backup only work in "C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLData", BUT the database locations under the server properties is indicated with "D:sqldatamssql"???? Attaching does not work======================= Attaching an existing database does not work either. Most databases (mdf) are located on the path D:sqldatamssql, but as soon as I press Attach Databases -> Add The dialog window appears with the "D:sqldatamssql" path, but it is unable to find any *.mdfs altough THERE ARE .mdfs in this directory. But Express can find databases in the selected installation: "C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLData". Why can't Express see the directory on the D: partition??? What is wrong? Here? Can anybody help me?

SQL Mobile Server 2005 To SQL Server Developer Edition 2000
I am looking for a detailed tutorial that explains how to set-up merge replication services for a major project. I have seen all of the claims that SQL Mobile Server 2005 is able to connect to a merge publication with SQL Server 2000. However, where are the tutorials? I must have a proof of concept in a few days to quote this project. Can anybody help with this issue? Thanks!

Sql Server 2005 Express Or Sql Server 2005 Developer Edition
Hi all, I just installed my VS 2005 Pro (full installation) and it installed Sql Server Express 2005. I also have a CD for Sql Server 2005 Developer Edition which I have not installed yet. My need for Sql Server on my development machine is for building and testing apps - just myself - no users will be hitting my sql server on my PC. Most of the time I hit my web server's sql server but also want the engine on my PC for when I'm offline. Question: Should I install the developer edition and remove sql server express? Doesn't the developer edition more closely emulate the full-blown sql server, just that it only allows one or a few users to hit for development and testing purposes? At the same time, sql server express is scalled back in that it doesn't have all the goodies? Thanks! Stewart

Confliction Between SQL Server 2005 And SQL Server 2005 Express Edition
Hi, My objective is using a single DB file (mdf file) + SQL Server Express 2005 to run my program I got two softwares here, Visual Studio 2005 and SQL Server 2005. Firstly, I installed Visual Studio 2005, normally the SQL Server 2005 Express Edition will be installed with this software. After finishing the installation. I opened a new project and try to open a DB file (.mdf) from Visual Studio 2005, it works. The problem is that I can't restore the mdf file from an old database file since it lose a lot of functions that appear in SQL Server 2000 / SQL Server 2005. And it is too troublesome and inconvenient to edit a DB file in Visual Stuio 2005. Therefore, I have to install SQL Server 2005 for me to edit the mdf file, so that I can modify, backup, or even restore the mdf file with another DB file. After the installation of SQL Server 2005, I got a tool, SQL Server Managment Studio, to edit the mdf file. I can open the mdf file but when I double-clicked on the mdf file in Visual Studio 2005, it gives me the following error message: Connections to SQL Server files (*.mdf) require SQL Server Express 2005 to function properly. Please verify the installation of the component or download from the URL: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=49251 It seems the SQL Server 2005 modify some of the files in SQL Server 2005 Express Edition. Is that SQL Server 2005 and SQL Server 2005 Express Edition cannot be exist at the same time? The issue is I'm working on my computer, but I dun want to install SQL Server 2005 in the server that I will transfer to. It will be much like using Access DB file, without the Microsoft Access software, the program can still work well. However, when I'm still in programming stage, I do hope to have a DB file as the source file for my program, but I can do some editing works with SQL Server 2005.
