Sql Ntext Data Truncates In Asp

The sql database has an ntext (16) field which contains "information" and is used as a free form turnover log. When I bring this data into an ASP page the "information" gets truncated.

I have tried getchunk, however all formatting on the field is lost.
I have tried putting the field at the end of my query - no change.
I have tried querying the data as a separate sqlrs connection - no change.
I have tried using substring to break it down, the first substring works, however I get errors on the second (Expression result length exceeds the maximum. 8000 max, 12000 found).

I also tried to use substring in sql query anaylzer - and only get the first ~4180 characters.

Is there a way to split this field into multiple nvarchar fields in my temporary table in sql and then concatenate back together in asp report???

SQL Server Truncates Data
How come no matter what I do SQL server always truncates my dates when they are saved to the database? I save a complete date like 1/1/1900 6:13:42 and no matter what I do it always truncates the seconds off of all my dates, so I always get 1/1/1900 6:13:00. It makes no since because when I save the record the seconds are there, but when I pull it back up they are always gone.

OLEDB Data Source Truncates Pennnies
I'm importing from a SQL table that has data fields typed as numeric(18,2) and the OLEDB data source componentconverts the data to integers (as viewed in the data viewer). I've preceeded the column names with (DT_NUMERIC,18,2) with no results. When the data gets saved to a table with the field typed as money, it appends .00. The truncation of pennies (decimal) results in the diminution of the daily results as much as $1,000. How do I pass the pennies through the OLEDB data source component? Is this truncation by default,or is there something I'm missing in the configuration? thanks.

Data Truncates When Pasting Text Into Varchar Field (5000)
I can't paste text (directly into table row via enterprise manager) into a varchar (5000) field, truncates after about960 char. Length of string trying to paste is about 1400 characters including spaces. No special characters (one apostrophe). Error happens intermittently.

Stored Procedure Based Custom Conflict Resolver Truncates Data
I created a stored procedure based custom conflict resolver in SQL 2005, I return the winning result set and also save that result set to a test table to compare the values. The values saved to the test table are correct but some of the values saved as the conflict winter are truncated.

Example a char(3) filed is updated at the subscriber as 111 and updated at the publisher as 222, in my custom conflict resolver if I use the value from the subscriber the conflict resolver updates the field as 11 , if I use the publisher value the conflict resolver updates the field as 22 . Now the same records is saved to the test table correctly as either 111 or 222 depending on the logic I used. So the result set has the correct values, its after the custom conflict resolver is called where the values is somehow truncated. Has anybody run into this before and what steps can I take to avoid this.

Thank you,
Pauly C

Report Builder recognises this as if it was an image...

Function That Replaces Ntext And Compares Ntext With Nvarchar
I am running this query to an sql server 2000 database from my aspcode:"select * from MyTable whereMySqlServerRemoveStressFunction(MyNtextColumn) = '" &MyAdoRemoveStressFunction(MyString) & "'"The problem is that the replace function doesn't work with the ntextdatatype (so as to replace the stresses with an empty string). I hadto implement the MySqlServerRemoveStressFunction, i.e. a function thattakes a column name as a parameter and returns the text contained inthis column having replaced some letters of the text (the letters withstress). Unfortunately, I could not do that because user-definedfunctions cannot return a value of ntext.So I have the following idea:"select * from MyTable whereCheckIfTheyAreEqualIngoringTheStesses(MyNtextColum n, '" & MyString &"')"How can I implement the CheckIfTheyAreEqualIngoringTheStessesfunction? (I don't know how to combine these functions to do what Iwant: TEXTPTR, UPDATETEXT, WRITETEXT, READTEXT)

Converting Text Data To Ntext Data
Hi,

We are adapting our application to use unicode. However, one of our ptoblems is to ocnvert existing data from text to ntext. I couldn't find anything that document this. What is the preferred way to do this? I would like to be able to migrate the data from an existing text column to another ntext column in the table.

If I can't do that, what are the options? Preferrably, I would like to be able to do this in sql script.

Thanks.

I brief you about my system, I used List manager system to store the messages and distribute to all members. Right now,by design the Lyris system keep the message in the text field which mean it 's not support multilanguage directly because of unicode field. We needs to create new Db which has the data structure as same as Lyris but just one difference is keep the message in unicode format (ntext) which we need the sql script to automatically update the new record get from Lyris to new DB.

If I can't do that, what are the options? If it's possible, I would like to be able to do this in sql script.

Thanks a mil, in advance.

NText Data Type
I need to store a large amount of text in my database. I thought I was supposed to use the nText data type for storing a large amount of text. For some reason all my text always gets truncated after 256 characters.
How come you can only store 256 characters in an nText? What field should I use to store large amounts of text?
Thanks.

Get Length Of Data In An NText Column
I have some text in an NText column that could be quite long.

for the web page that displays it, i want to show the first 200 characters and then have a "more..." link to bring up the full text.

i'd like to create a stored procedure that takes the left 200 characters and copies them to a ShortText column (NVarChar) for initial display and then id like to set a bit column to indicate if the length of the NText column is greater than 200.

Len and Left cant be used against NText so how can i work with the NText data ??

NText Data Type Issue
Have a table storing nText data tied into a Cold Fusion front end. The Cold Fusion returns the values fine, but when querying in Query analyzer the messages are being truncated. In Enterprize Manager I get a <Long Text> message.

I ran OBJECTPROPERTY and found that TableTextInRowLimit was set to 0, but even after i set it to 1 on our test system with a value of 2000, it still truncated.

Also, the field is set to ntext with a length of 16. I havent worked much with nText, anyone with advise would be much appricated.

Ntext Vs. Nvarchar, Mysterious Data In The Database
I hope this is the right forum for this question, my apologies in advance if it isn't....

We have a web based CGIproduct (written in C++ VS 6) that uses ODBC and takes text from a submitted web page and stores it in a SQL Server table in a field of type "ntext". The user in question is copying and pasting this text from an MS Word 2003 document. After the initial save our app errors out trying to access the table it just wrote to, and when we look in the table we see that up to **200 carriage returns** have been mysteriously inserted into the ntext field!! (Our product has been out in the field with no such problem for several years, so we are thinking it's related to something specific the customer is doing - perhaps with using MS Word for the source text.) We have tried but cannot duplicate the problem, but the customer sees it with each attempt to modify the table in question. The only thing that I see out of the ordinary is that the field in question is of type "ntext" - which supports unicode, instead of nvarchar. Does any of this ring a bell for anybody? I'm thinking of changing the field type to nvarchar to see if that solves the problem.
Thanks, Steve Bradbery

SqlCe Ntext Data Types And VS2005
I have an application where I'm trying to store xml data in a db field defined as ntext. I have a dataset and table adapter setup in VSNet 2005 and SqlCe 3.1. When I look at the table adapter in the VS designer it shows the field with a type of String and a size of 2147483647 which appears to be correct. Also, if I look at the code generated by the MSDataSetGenerator tool it shows the parameter defined in the same way as in the following
param = new System.Data.SqlServerCe.SqlCeParameter();
param.ParameterName = "@Questions";
param.Size = 2147483647;
param.IsNullable = true;
param.SourceColumn = "Questions";
this._commandCollection[2].Parameters.Add(param);

My problem is that when I run the application and try to insert an item into this column the application throws an exception related to corrupted memory. Trying to debug the problem I found at run time, the param.Size value for the ntext parameter had been set to 255. Since the specific xml I was trying to insert was 410 characters in length I'm guessing that this is what is causing the crash.

Is the expected behavior (the setting of the size to 255 that is)?
If not, am I missing some trick here?

Thanks
Neil

Manipulating Text,nText Data Types Filed In Tsql
I have to run a dynamic sql that i save in the database as a TEXT data type(due to a large size of the sql.) from a .NET app.  Now i have to run this sql from the stored proc that returns the results back to .net app. I am running this dynamic sql with sp_executesql like this..
EXEC sp_executesql @Statement,N'@param1 varchar(3),@param2 varchar(1)',@param1,@param2,GO
As i can't declare text,ntext etc variables in T-Sql(stored proc), so i am using this method in pulling the text type field "Statement".
DECLARE @Statement varbinary(16)SELECT @Statement = TEXTPTR(Statement)FROM table1 READTEXT table1.statement @Statement 0 16566
So far so good, the issue is how to convert @Statment varbinary to nText to get it passed in sp_executesql.
Note:- i can't use Exec to run the dynamic sql becuase i need to pass the params from the .net app and Exec proc doesn't take param from the stored proc from where it is called.
I would appreciate if any body respond to this.

The Text, Ntext, And Image Data Types Are Invalid - Error
Hi ,
When I run the following SQL :
strQuery = "DECLARE @V_PRGTXT VARCHAR(8000); "; strQuery += "SELECT @V_PRGTXT = (SELECT PROGTXT FROM PSPCMPROG WHERE OBJECTID1 = 10 AND OBJECTVALUE1 = 'FISC_TEMPLATE_PNLG' AND OBJECTID2 = 39 AND OBJECTVALUE2 = 'GBL' AND OBJECTID3 = 12 AND OBJECTVALUE3 = 'SavePostChange' AND OBJECTID4 = 0 AND OBJECTVALUE4 = ' ' AND OBJECTID5 = 0 AND OBJECTVALUE5 = ' ' AND OBJECTID6 = 0 AND OBJECTVALUE6 = ' ' AND OBJECTID7 = 0 AND OBJECTVALUE7 = ' ')";
m_databaseConnector.execUpdate(strQuery);
strQuery = "UPDATE PSPCMPROG SET PROGTXT = @V_PRGTXT WHERE OBJECTID1 = 10 AND OBJECTVALUE1 = '" + component + "' ";

strQuery += "AND OBJECTID2 = 39 AND OBJECTVALUE2 = 'GBL' AND OBJECTID3 = 12 AND OBJECTVALUE3 = 'SavePostChange' AND OBJECTID4 = 0 AND OBJECTVALUE4 = ' ' AND OBJECTID5 = 0 AND OBJECTVALUE5 = ' ' AND OBJECTID6 = 0 AND OBJECTVALUE6 = ' ' AND OBJECTID7 = 0 AND OBJECTVALUE7 = ' '";
m_databaseConnector.execUpdate(strQuery);

I'm getting the following error:

Using Inserted / Deleted Tables With Text / NText / Image Data Type
Hi folks,

Table:

a int,
b int,
c int,
d text

I need to change my AFTER - Trigger from this (example!):

select * into #ins from inserted

to something like

select *(without Text / nText / image -columns) into #ins from inserted.

So I tried to build a string like this: (using INFORMATIONSCHEMES)

select @sql = 'select a,b,c into #ins from inserted'
exec(@sql)

a,b,c are not of Text, nText or Image datatype.

After executing the trigger, I get an error, that inserted is unknown.

Does anyone know how to solve this ?

Thx.

Xp_readmail Truncates Message
I am using (or trying to) xp_readmail to import email into a table for further processing. I am using the following line to bring the email into a table (this is part of a larger stored procedure):

insert email_import exec master.dbo.xp_readmail

However, the email message is always truncated at 250 characters.

BOL says:

[@message =] 'message' Is the returned body or the actual text of the mail message. message is text, with no default.

I am at a loss here and I really need to get the entire message body into the imprt table so that I can parse the subject line to identify the row in the destination table to update with the email message body. Anybody have any ideas?? Thanks...

DTS Copy Truncates Bigint Values
I just discovered that a bigint column in one of my tables is getting it's values truncated when I run a DTS job to copy the data to another database. The DTS job is designed to refresh our test environments from our production database. All the other tables copy fine. This include another table that also contains a bigint column. But this one table consistenly has a problem where 60 or so records are translated from positive number to negative values. The only explaination I came up with was truncation at some point.

Anyone know of a way to fix or work around this?

Dividing Two Numbers Truncates After 4 Decimal Places
I have two fields - both defined as money.
When I divide them, SQL Server truncates the result after the 4th decimal point.
So SQL Server says: 370.45 / 3,391,517.85 = 0.0001
I want to achieve: 370.45 / 3,391,517.85 = 0.00010922837... etc.
The field the result is going into is defined as decimal(20,18)

I've tried using "cast(1stmoneyfield as decimal(20,18)) / cast(2ndmoneyfield as decimal(20,18)) as dividednumber", but SQL Server reports back errors about null values and Arithmetic overflow and terminates.

I'm at a loss as to how to solve the problem. Any suggestions please?

Visual Interdev Truncates Long Varchars At 255
We have an application that uses ASP pages to get data from a SQL 7.0 database. One of the stored procedures that is called brings back a comment field that is a varchar(2000). For some reason, when this SP is called from the ASP page, the field is truncated at 255 characters. If the SP is run in the Query Analyzer, all 2000 characters are brought back (after we reset the default length in QA).

Is there any way for the ASP page to bring back more than 255 characters?

Text Box In ASP Page Truncates Field Value When Writing Rst
Alex writes "Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Version - SQL server 2000
SQL Enterprise Mgr Version 8.0

I am currently developing a backend SQL db for an ASP website. I am only learning, so quite new to it all & would appreciate some help with the following;

I currently have a form that updates a recordset in my SQL db. This is working fine, except for the fact that when the form loads and the db tries to write the field value into my text box, e.g. Address: 20 Harbour Drive, the field value is truncated at the space and it writes the address as 20 in the text box.

When I view the detail page, no problems, the recordset was updated, but when I go back to the update page, the record values are truncated again as though the ASP page thinks the space is some kind of delimiter?

The size property of my textbox element is the same as the varchar datatype size in the SQL table.

Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance, this is driving me nuts.

Windows Vista Truncates Username During Logon To SQL 2005 Express
As the titel suggests I am having quite a strange problem

I have installed an Enotebook on our domain server at work and it uses MSQL express 2005.
When I ask it to automatically connect using window authentication to connect it works on windows XP machines with DomainUSERNAME. However when I try the same thing on Windows vista it tells me the logon failed with "DomainUSERNAM". I change it to SQL Authetifcation and type the same username fully (I have added the user via active directory as a SQL user) then it works

Basically it looks like the windows username is sent from Vista missing the last letter.

I have Googled this a lot and have not really found an answer. Am I mearly being very stupid or is this a known issue. Can anyone give me a suggestion as to why this might happen?.

Managing Ntext, Text With A Long Text Data
Hi,I have a problem to insert(update) a long text (more than 64K) intoSQL 2000 (datatype - 'text'). It cuts the data and insert only 64K.MSDN says: "When the ntext, text, and image data values get larger,however, they must be handled on a block-by-block basis. BothTransact-SQL and the database APIs contain functions that allow applications towork with ntext, text, and image data block by block." Could somebodygive me an example how to do this, please.Thank you
