is it possible to access data located in a SQL-Server-Database by using a MySQL SELECT-Statement?
I know that on an I can use a qurey like the following
SELECT *
FROM OpenDataSource( 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0',
'Data Source="c:Financeaccount.xls";User ID=Admin;Password=;Extended properties=Excel 5.0')
on an MS-SQL-Server and search for something similar in MySQL.

Accessing Mysql On Win2003 Server From A Station
I have installed Mysql on a Win2003 server and it is running as a service. I created a database and it works ok on the server logged on as root. I then tried to access the database from a station on the network using PHP code and I get the error - Warning: mysql_connect(): Client does not support authentication protocol requested by server; consider upgrading MySQL client in G:InetpubWWWrootIntranetookingacc.php on line 10. Do I need Mysql Client on the station or does it run on the Server by default?

Accessing MySQL Data
This morning when I tried to access my MySQL installation through MySQL Query Browser, all schemas have a message stating "Fecthing Data..." when I expand the schema. If I access MySQL through the command line, I get the following message when I execute a "use" command: "Reading table information for completion of table and column names You can turn off this feature to get a quicker startup with -A" If I execute mysql using "-A", then it appears I can access the data, but it's very slow. Has anyone experienced this and if so, do you know how to resolve it?

I have a problem selecting records with in any values. For example: SELECT * FROM ADDRESS WHERE STREET = "A" will give an error: If I replace with then it works. Eg. SELECT * FROM ADDRESS WHERE STREET = "A" Is there any setting in MySQL that can overcome this?

Accessing Remote Data Folder
I have MySql 4.0.17 server on my machine. My data folder is on a network drive. Recently I installed MySql 4.0.17 on a different machine, changed the my.ini file to point to the same remote data folder and restarted the MySql. I get the following error- "Could not start the MySql Server on local computer. Error 1067: The process terminated unexpectedly". So I copied the remote data folder onto my local machine and changed the my.ini accordingly, it is working perfectly fine. The storage engine is Innodb. Am I missing something here. Accessing Multiple Tables With A Select Statement
I am writing a select statement, that says something to this effect. Select * from texas, california, oklahoma; Everything in each table is going to be the exact same. as far as city, name, and zip...they are the titles of my fields. But when I go and look at this file, it just shows everyone from oklahoma. If take out out oklahoma, then it shows everyone from california but not texas. What is the proper way to do this?

Accessing Floating Point Data From Table...
I have a table and from a column in the table i'm accessing values. I found that only floating point data is not accessible. For example if i issue this below query it gives empty set. select * from audio where audio_sr=44.1; whereas when given as below, select * from audio; i can see rows having 44.1 as data value in audio_sr column. Can't Connect To Local MySQL Server Through Socket '/home/data/mysql/mysql.sock' (13)
I just installed mysql on linux. If I open a terminal, su to root, then type "mysql", I am able to connect to the server and run my queries. If I exit out of su so that I am my own id (baisley) and type "mysql", I get this error: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/home/data/mysql/mysql.sock' (13) Any idea why? mysql.sock has full permissions (read/write/execute), so it should be accessable by user baisley. If I am baisley and I run "mysql -u mysql" (as mysql is the user that the RPM set up), it will connect. What I would like to be able to do is run this without having to be user mysql all the time. How do I go about setting that up, or is it better to run all my queries/make tables as 1 user?

Could Not Select Database - MySQL Server Has Gone Away
Firstly I appreciate anyone reading this trying to help me because its driving me crazy! I have a script that imports a lot of csv files, these run fine and then all of a sudden stop! It stops at the same place everytime, but there is no code error as its all the same for every csv file. It does stop on a large file (45MB) but this may be just a coinsidence because i have set all the php limits to way above this. I have setup some security recently and wondered if it is this which is blocking me out of the mysql server after so many requests etc.?

I'm investigating using MySQL instead of the dreaded Access to retrieve logged information from a process control system. Is there a way to use ODBC to get rows INTO MySQL? All I can find in the manual is how to set up MySQL as an ODBC server for other applications. I'm trying to download MySQL4.1 from the MySQL site and when I try and go to the download section on the site it either fails or, if it loads, the "pick a mirror site" links always fail. By "fail" I mean that it doesn't manage to retrieve the requested page, either sticking on "waiting for dev.mysql.com" or "connecting to dev.mysql.com" in the status line of the browser, eventually giving up with an "operation timed out" error message. Is anyone else having this problem or is it just me? - this has been ongoing for the past couple of days now. MySQL Enterprise Server With InnoDB For Mission-critical Data?
However recently the company I work for has the requirement to upgrade their database system. The data here really is mission-critical and we can't afford to loose any of it, and we need 24-7 uptime, with good performance (we have lots of clients so there'll be heavy load), any downtime will cost us. What I'd like to hear is peoples own experiences with MySQL Enterprise, good or bad, and if it's up to the job. Looking around the net I've seen lots of supposed expert DBAs saying that there's no argument; you should go with one of the "big 3", these being DB2, Oracle or MSSQL. However I get the feeling Oracle and DB2 would be a massive task to configure, and MSSQL - well it runs on Windows, we can't have any downtime no matter how good people say it is these days. So my idea was; InnoDB on 3 servers - a master and 2 replication slaves, with one slave off-site down a 10Mb line (wide enough pipe?). We use the on-site slave to run our daily backups, and point our reporting web sites at it too. the off site is for worst-case scenario disaster recovery. How much would we be better off spending more £ on one of the "big 3"? Would our data be safer on these? Would we get better performance with these? Is there a better model I could use for the MySQL setup?

I have recently installed MySQL 5.0.27 / PHP 5.2.0 / Apache 2.2.3 on an XP os. I created an empty database via the MySQL command line which is visible when I type SHOW DATABASES at the mysql prompt. I have changed my root password which works OK. I am building a kiosk which uses a lockdown browser. The browser uses a php page to access a MySQL DB on a web server. I am trying to run the MySQL DB on a Linux machine that is part of a home LAN (IP=192.168.0.3), while trying to access it from another WinXP machine (IP=192.168.0.5). Accessing MySql Thru Coldfusion - Password Problem
I have downloaded MySql 5.0 for Windows (XP) and MySqlCC so I can interact with it. When I installed MySQl I created a username and password which I can see in "my ini" file. I don't remember creating any passwords through mysqlcc. I am building a database driven website using "macromedia studio MX" and am experiencing problems accessing my Mysql database through that software - I keep getting asked for a login ID and password, and for the life of me, have no idea what they are. 1. When I originally added my database as a 'data source' in Cold Fusion (MX 6.1 administrator) it would not let me create a password. I kept getting error messages like "The root cause was that: java.sql.SQLException: Invalid authorization specification: Access denied for user: 'martin'@'localhost' (Using password: YES)" etc etc etc variations on that theme. (adding the database without a password wasn't a problem) 2. Now I am trying to create a dynamic page in Dreamweaver (using Coldfusion) to display my data – there is a 6 point process in the ‘server behaviors’ tab and I’m up to the last one “press the (+) plus button and choose ‘Recordset (Query). WHEN I SELECT MY DATABASE AS A DATA SOURCE IT ASKS ME FOR A "LOGIN ID" AND "PASSWORD." I've tried all the passwords I can think of that I used and nothing works, the error message I get is: "-1:Syntax error or access violation: You have an error in your SQL syntax. Check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'wine like '%' at line 1. this is then followed by about 27 lines of commands like "at org.gjt.mm.mysql..".bladedblahdeblah " (I am creating a database of wine tasting notes)

Error Accessing MS Access Table Linked To MySQL
I create the linked tables without any problems, clicking on "save password" before selecting the desired tables. I can then access both tables fine from within the Access GUI. The problem starts when I then try to access this data from my ASP.NET web application - classic ASP works fine but .NET gives me... ERROR [HY000] [Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] ODBC--connection to 'MyDSN' failed. SELECT `*` Not Work On New Server
I wrote some code a long time ago that used SELECT `*` from blah blah blah. I'm building a new server with a new installation on MySQL 4 and for some reason this piece of code wasn't working. I looked into it, and turns out only SELECT * not SELECT `*` works on this new server. Now I realise this is probably my crappy coding, but is there some variable I can turn on/that is different between the servers that makes this happen?
