Accessing Mysql From Command Prompt
The path to my mysql installation is "C:Program Filesxamppmysqlin".
I want to run myisamchk - to do this I think I have to access it via the command prompt.
A stupid question - I kmow - but how do I get to the directory in a DOS window??

In DOS mode, we can use for example dir/w-p to break the whole page to sub-page. In MySQL prompt window, when I type "show variables", it blooms about 190 rows, but I can't scroll BACK to first 1-50 rows, by resizing the prompt windows it won't help. So, I think is there any additional keys for pause the page like DOS mode?

Can't Connect To MySQL Server From Command Prompt
I have installed MySQL on WinXP Pro When attempting to access various commands from the command prompt (eg help, set password etc) I get the following error. ERROR 2003: Can't connect to MySQL server on 'localhost' (10061) When trying to access the MySQL server via a local web page I am also unable to connect to the database. Cant Connect To Mysql At Command Prompt Error
please see attached file for error. im a beginner. im following php/mysql book from site point. ive searched the forums already but couldnt find the solution. i just installed IIS on windows xp, mysql and php. im at command line and i get these (profanity removed) darn error messages. after 1 hour of re-reading chapters of the book i decided to bother you with this problem in the book it says to check mysql is running by pressing ctrl +alt + del. then in "tasks" you should see "it" running. a) there is no tab called tasks when you press ctrl + alt + del. b) what is "it" so i assume it (mysql) is running, since i dont really know because the instructions arent that clear for complete (profanity removed) silly billies like me in another thread someone said "turn off your firewall then try again" - did that, didnt work then from the command prompt i keep being told it cant connect (see screenshot)

Running Existing .sql File In Mysql Command Prompt?
I've seen "examples" of this in my book on MySQL, but it just shows the file on the prompt. It says that I can run an existing sql file - for creating a table - right from the prompt. However, it doesn't really explain how to do this in detail. I've tried : -h host - u user -D database -p < myfile.sql but it gives an error. How do I point it to the right file on my system?

How To Use The Command Prompt?
I am using openSUSE 11.0. I am a student in 3rd year of my computer science course. We have the database labratory this year and the college uses oracle. However I think that the queries that we use are pretty common to be used on any databse. I do not want to install another PIRATED copy of the Oracle DB and slowdown my Windows installation as I already have a Linux system running it. My question is: How do I use the mysql prompt to execute my sql queries? Is there any prompt which will allow me to input the queries directly via keyboard and show me the output there (much as the 'show databases' command does) on the prompt? If yes then how to do that?

Problems Executing .sql File From Command Prompt
I am having problems executing a .sql batch file from the mysql command prompt. Online MySQL Prompt
My host provides me with its own MySQL prompt, called phpMyAdmin (in cPanel). It is quite hard to use, because it keeps on jumping to different pages after each prompt and incorrectly names my databases as "username_whateverINameIt". I'm trying to download MySQL4.1 from the MySQL site and when I try and go to the download section on the site it either fails or, if it loads, the "pick a mirror site" links always fail. By "fail" I mean that it doesn't manage to retrieve the requested page, either sticking on "waiting for dev.mysql.com" or "connecting to dev.mysql.com" in the status line of the browser, eventually giving up with an "operation timed out" error message. Is anyone else having this problem or is it just me? - this has been ongoing for the past couple of days now. Incidentally, I need a version of MySQL that can handle subqueries yet I'm still using glibc-2.2.5-40 and Redhat 7.3 (upgrading simply isn't an option right now) - can anyone suggest a stable sub-version of 4.1 that fits this criteria?

I have recently installed MySQL 5.0.27 / PHP 5.2.0 / Apache 2.2.3 on an XP os. I created an empty database via the MySQL command line which is visible when I type SHOW DATABASES at the mysql prompt. I have changed my root password which works OK. I set up the password to the empty db by: GRANT ALL ON database name.* TO username@localhost IDENTIFIED BY 'password' To access the db, when I type : mysql -D dbname -u username -p I do not get a prompt to enter the password.

Accessing MySQL Data
This morning when I tried to access my MySQL installation through MySQL Query Browser, all schemas have a message stating "Fecthing Data..." when I expand the schema. If I access MySQL through the command line, I get the following message when I execute a "use" command: "Reading table information for completion of table and column names You can turn off this feature to get a quicker startup with -A" If I execute mysql using "-A", then it appears I can access the data, but it's very slow. I am building a kiosk which uses a lockdown browser. The browser uses a php page to access a MySQL DB on a web server. It will not allow me to connect to the DB because I am using the following connection string: mysql_connect("localhost","*****","*****"); mysql_select_db("******") or die ('I cannot connect to the database because: ' . mysql_error()); I know that the problem here is that I'm trying to connect to 'localhost' when the actual DB resides elsewhere. Error 1130 When Accessing MySQL From Another IP??
I am trying to run the MySQL DB on a Linux machine that is part of a home LAN (IP=192.168.0.3), while trying to access it from another WinXP machine (IP=192.168.0.5). I have downloaded MySql 5.0 for Windows (XP) and MySqlCC so I can interact with it. When I installed MySQl I created a username and password which I can see in "my ini" file. I don't remember creating any passwords through mysqlcc. I am building a database driven website using "macromedia studio MX" and am experiencing problems accessing my Mysql database through that software - I keep getting asked for a login ID and password, and for the life of me, have no idea what they are. 1. When I originally added my database as a 'data source' in Cold Fusion (MX 6.1 administrator) it would not let me create a password. (adding the database without a password wasn't a problem) 2. Now I am trying to create a dynamic page in Dreamweaver (using Coldfusion) to display my data – there is a 6 point process in the ‘server behaviors’ tab and I’m up to the last one “press the (+) plus button and choose ‘Recordset (Query). WHEN I SELECT MY DATABASE AS A DATA SOURCE IT ASKS ME FOR A "LOGIN ID" AND "PASSWORD." I've tried all the passwords I can think of that I used and nothing works, the error message I get is: "-1:Syntax error or access violation: You have an error in your SQL syntax. Error Accessing MS Access Table Linked To MySQL
I create the linked tables without any problems, clicking on "save password" before selecting the desired tables. I can then access both tables fine from within the Access GUI. The problem starts when I then try to access this data from my ASP.NET web application - classic ASP works fine but .NET gives me... Slow To Get "C:/mysql>" Prompt
I'm setting up MySQL, Apache and PhP on my pc - Win98, 128meg to work on a project. My problem is this - I have installed MySQL and find that if I go into it via the DOS prompt (C:/mysql/bin/mysqld) it takes at least 10 minutes before the C:/mysql> prompt appears and I can start using it ... this I'm sure is not right ? I've recently had to re-build my dev box and as part of the re-build I've re-installed v4.1 (for Windows). I'd previously had v4.1 BETA installed and in that I had a my.ini file setting that customized the cmd prompt to show the current database and user. The trouble is that in the production version of 4.1 the same ini file setting has no effect. I'm using an ini file setting of [mysql] prompt=u@h-d> This definately worked for me in 4.1 BETA and it's what the MySQL documentation state is the way to do it.
