Create Database Mysql Database In My System
I have installed MySQL 4.1.7-Standard in MacOS X (10.3.5). I have ONLY database test. According to the manual there should be TWO. test and mysql. I have re-run mysql_install_db several times with he same result. Can some mysql guru explain or point me to the right page to have this mysql database in my system?

Use This Database System?
I have just downloaded 5.1 and have been following the MySql book by larry Ullman. I have several question in regards to this database. First I would like to know if this is considered a back-end system. I have used ms access before and know that you can print all types of reports and forms to enter data. Is that the same with the mysql. How do business really use this database? Creating a table and colums can be very long is there a way to do this faster. I guess my main question how can this database be utilized besides for websites etc.

Mysql Database Create
All i want to do is create a page with a response form, e.g. name etc and some radio buttons (part of a uni project, but i'm a chemist!) and a submit button to save the data in a database. I installed iss microsoft web server and php and the mysql database. Php works fine, i could write to a text file, and using phpinfo(); it says everythings ok and a mysql section is there, so i'm guessing mysql is installed ok. The php script to insert info etc in to databases seems easy enough, but i have no idea how to create a database! I searched everywhere, but could find nothing, most mysql tutorials just brush past it and go onto the editing of a databse, but i have no database!

How Do You Create A GUI For The MySQL Database
I just started using My Sql, have been able to transfer over my database from Access, but how do I create the same functionality I had in MS Access ; being able to take in user input, store it into the database, and then re-display it in a specific manner... The data comes in from Excel and a SQL server; there are also user names and passwords for all the users which I think I can just create in SQL Administrator I believe. s is the most efficient, and relatively easy way to design this functionality in a user-friendly environment.

What Front End For Office Database / Web System
I would like to replace our current MS Access database with a linux based system. Our needs are as follows : A database to store our pertinent data A means of accessing the data from within our office (forms, reports, etc) A method for our clients to access our data from their offices ( ex..a web based access to our database) I am currently in the research phase, soon to be followed by the "learn a new language(s) phase." So I am a blank slate at this time, any recommendation is possible. How would you recommend I proceed? What structure, what languages, etc.. I have started reading about PHP with MySQL, would that fit the bill?

Setting Up The Database For A 'mail' System
i'm creating a website that will allow the users to message one another in a similar fashion that facebook accomplishes this. what they do is display the message between two users as an ongoing 'thread'. seems simple enough. however, i'm not sure of the best way to handle situations such as: 1. one of the users 'deletes' the message 2. display message topics and if they contain unread messages i have some ideas, but i'm not sure they're the most efficient way. currently i have this for my table structure...Users -------------- UserID FirstName LastName Etc... Can't Create The System/user MySQL Tables
I have mysql installed via rpm package, but when I check the data dirs, the only table there is "test". The instructions say there should be others, like users tables, and other such tables. I have setup a mysql cluster on our web servers, all is working really well. Except I cant figure out how to create a database that scales across the cluster. Friends/buddy System Database Structure
I'm about to integrate a friends system into my website and I was wondering what the best schema would be for this kind of thing. The friends system will be an invite only system, so a user must send an invite to the user he wishes to add to his friends list before that friend can be added. The invites will be stored in an invites table, but I was wondering on how best to record the friendship between two users (once an invite is accepted). I was going to follow vbulletin's schema of which stores this information in a single field, in the members table. This field consists of the user id of each friend, seperated by a space. My second option is to set up a seperate table which stores every single friendship. Although this would be easier to manage/handle (since each friendship has to be mutual), I'm a bit worried about the excessive amount of records this would create. Would anyone know what the best approach would be? I'd be very grateful for your input.

Transfering Database From Local System To Live Server
I have a site running locally on my notebook and I copied my site to a live server. I have no problem getting the PHP & HTML files to the server, but i'm not sure how I can move the database and data to the live server. Can I copy a file to the live server like I can with an MS ACCESS database? Or do I need to recreate the whole database on the live server and somehow figure out how to transfer the data?

How Do I Create A Database On Linux Machine Running Mysql?
I have an sql script file that is supposed to create a set of database tables for me. Supposedly I type the following on my linux box and its all supposed to work... mysql (ENTER) . mysql_dump.sql.txt When I type myslq <ENTER> I get a command prompt that looks like this... mysql> But I don't know how to change directories from that command prompt to the directory where mysql_dump.sql.txt is located. Lost Connection To MySQL Server During Query (create Database)
I downloaded the MySQL trail version a few month ago, it worked fine. however after i brought 1 x EMS MySQL Manager Professional (Non-commercial license) and registered but the tool doesn't work anymore... when i try to register a database and try to get it connect, it through me a error message "Lost connection to MySQL server during query". more to it... when i try to create a database at my local host, a error messate says "can't connect to MySQL server on localhost (10061)... Database Transfer Between Oracle 8 Database And MySQL Database
Is it somebody out there who has made a migration from an Oracle server to an MySQL server?? The scenario is as simply: I've got a Oracle 8 server with a database with content that I want to transfer to a MySQL database. No special data, constraints etc that MySQL not will handle. My solution is to reverse engineer the database from ERStudio and then produce a SQL script that will insert the data into the MySQL engine. But I can't do this, because the customer want me to do a PL/SQL script that does this, even if he never have worked with Oracle.. So the question is.. Do someone know a simplier way to do this or do I have to teach myself PL/SQL and make a script that produces a MySQL sql script ?

I would like to create a new database. But something has me wondering. One of the fields "keywords" has to be searchable. Let's suppose it will be a very large database, 20.000 to 50.000 records. Suppose the "keywords" field is limited to 5 keywords. I recently installed Mysql into this machine a wonderful pentium IV 2.8 HT Dell computer With 1 GB of RAM and Running (shame on me) WIN XP Everything works fine while i work into the test database but as soon as i try to create a new one the mysql says: "1044 access denied for user: @'localhost' to database 'mytest'" o.k the problem is i am the system administrator i have the account permissions as system administrator not only in this machine but in the whole system, server and domain (o.k it is a windows one but anyway is a domain) i tried to log as every possible combination of users and domain or local machine names and nothing worked to me, does anyone have a clue about what am i doing wrong?

I'm using MYSQL 5.1.33 According to the document, 8.2. Schema Object Names Before MySQL 5.1.6, database and table names cannot contain “/â€, “â€, “.â€, or characters that are not allowed in filenames. So I guess 5.1.33 should able to use '.' in database name. Can't Create New Database
I have install it on a Mac under OS X 10.4.6. During the install I do not think I set it up correctly. The database named test works fine, however I cannot create a new database. I get the error that I do not have privileges. I am using CocoaMySql to admin the database. I can log in with no username and password and admin the test database but that is it.
