Need To Insert Data From A Text File Into A Medium Text Field.
How can I go about inserting data into a MEDIUMTEXT field from an existing text file using Java.

Insert File Data Into Text Field
I've built a database locally and have inputed some information. I
need to go back and update some records, specifically by taking long
pieces of text and putting them into text fields.

Cutting and pasting in the command prompt for windows isn't such a
good idea. Is there a way to update an existing record by importing a
text file into a text field?

All the info I'm seeing in the MySQL manual and in these groups is for
importing text-deliniated files.

How To Insert New Text At Specific Point In Text Field?
I'd like to insert "rackmount" in a database text field in front of "radio." The term "radio" appears in each "description" column but it is surrounded by other, random, text. Is there a way to accomplish this?

Using PHPMyAdmin To Insert A Text File
I want to upload a text file.  How do I do this?  Do I use the following statement (This is what I used to upload to a local MySQL database in the past.)

LOAD DATA INFILE 'C:WebInfoeva1-18-05.txt'  INTO TABLE egov
FIELDS TERMINATED BY ','
ENCLOSED BY '"'
LINES TERMINATED BY '
'
(ID, LSIPN , ManPN, DESCRIPTION, SPSCCode, UnitPrice, UnitM, LeadTime, ManufacturerName, PaymentTerm, MinimumOrder, MaximumOrder, ServiceAreas, Image, Generic, Remanufcatured);

However when I use this I get an access denied error.  Do I need to move the text file local?  If so how do I give the file path name on a linux system?

Updating A Text Field From A File
Is there anyway to update a text field for a given row from a file?
In other words I'd like to replace teh contents of a text field with the contents of a file.

INSERT Syntax For Text File To Load Into Tables?
I have successfully created a number of tables in my database and am looking for an efficient way to load data into the tables. I have the following (successful) command to find the text file and load it into the target table:

"load data local infile 'C:mySQL abledata.txt' into TABLE checks;"

It loads into the 'checks' table successfully, but the data is incorrect. What is the syntax of the INSERT command that I'm using in the text file itself-- assuming that I do use the INSERT command? Here is what I have in the NotePad text file I'm using, which only produces zeroes in the first and third columns:

insert into checks values
('1', 'Ma Bell', '150', 'Have sons next time',
'2', 'Reading R.R.', '245.34', 'Train to Chicago',
'3', 'Ma Bell', '200.32', 'Cellular phone',
'4', 'Local Utilities', '98', 'Gas',
'5', 'Joes Stale $ Dent', '150', 'Grocieries',
'6', 'Cash', '25', 'Wild Night Out',
'7', 'Joans Gas', '25.1', 'Gas');

Generate INSERT SCRIPT From Tab-Delimited Text File
Any recommendations on how to generate an INSERT SQL script for the
records in a tab-delimietd text file? The limitation is that, while I
do have command-line mySQL access locally, I do not at my remote host,
so I will need to come up with a solution that I can run via something
like phpmyadmin, mysqlcc, or TOAD for mySQL.

Creating A Table From A Text File With Field Names
Is there a way to create a MYSQL table or database using a text file that
countains the Field name and the lenght ?

that is :

fields.txt

----- start ----------
name,10
address,15
address1,15
address2,15
city,10
state,2
zip,10

etc......

---end ----------------------

Export Copy Of All Data From Field To Text File..
I would like to export a copy of the contents of one of the fields in my DB to a text file, that I can then access via my normal telnet account.

Any ideas on what commands I could use to do this? I've read some of the posts and they refer to "dumps" so maybe this is what I need?

Can't Insert Text
I'm trying to insert text from text file to MySQL. I'm creating field with TEXT data type. When I try to insert simple text like "lala", everything works ok.

But when I try to read real text file (read by strings then connect all strings into one variable) I get error about wrong syntax.

Example:
INSERT INTO t
VALUES ('$a', '$b', '$text');

Maybe problem with ' symbols in text file? Maybe problem with some special symbols like
or
etc?

How can I fix it?

Insert SMS Text
I'm looking for a solution that will allow me to receive SMS messages and insert the values into a mysql dababase. I've been looking into kannel and gnokii for a while now, haven't made a decicion for one or the other yet though. Have installed gnokii but I'm still waiting for the serial data cable to arrive for my nokia 2100.

The text messages will look like this:

"183 yes"

"183" is the row where "yes" should be inserted (through 'update'). Does anyone have any experience in picking out certain values from a text message in gnokii/kannel and getting a script to insert it into a remote mysql database?

Text File
I have a CSV text file. Is possible insert that file in mysql database from command line script running from console?

Using Text File
I am using the book "PHP and MySQL Web Development" by Sams Publishing to learn MySQL. The authors provide a CD with lots of source files in text format. They give a command to run or these files, but the path to the files is unclear. It just lists the file names and not any path from C: to the actual directory. I've tried specifying the full path from C:documents and settingsmy user name...file.sql but this does not work. I've also tried forward slashes. What do I do to specify the path to run a file to input commands in MySQL? Or how do I change the working directory to the place where the file is located?

Insert Text With Apostrophies
I have the following query that does not work when the text that is past to it from a form has apostropies, or pound signs, or other kinds of characters in the '$new_url' or the $new_note'.

(!mysql_query( "insert into onmylist_person (username, person, notes) values ('$valid_user', '$new_url', '$new_note')"))

I don't get any errors, but it just does not get written to the database.

Insert Text To Mysql
When i insert an article into my database table it works perfectly, but when i have a quote in mine article it can not be inserted. What should i do to prevent this?

Here is an example of it.

insert into `afghan`.`nieuws`
(NIEUWSID, TITEL, CONTENT, AUTEUR, DATUM, NIEUWSTYPE)
    values
(NIEUWSID, TITEL, CONTENT, AUTEUR, DATUM, NIEUWSTYPE)

If Content exist from an article like this:

Although this is a sad poem, I liked it because of the beauty in yearning for one's home where you grow up. The part that talks about the "gard alood" city also hit home. it wont work, because a quote exist in the article "gard alood" , How should i solve this probleem.

How To Insert Quotes As Text?
I want to create a variable that is set as a text string, but I want to have a quote character within the text. I can't figure out how to do this without ending the variable thing. Can anyone help me?

Example:
Dim var1
var1 = "I want my quote in " here."

Where I want the quote in between 'in' and 'here' to be part of the sentence, but instead it sets the variable to 'I want my qoute in '.

Insert Lots Of Text
I am trying to use a mysql database with php to create dynamic pages. I have no problem creating a page which holds small bits of information but i would like to have a dynamic page where a lot of text is dynamically stored. I would then be able to alter the pages of my site using the database rather than going into dWmx. at present i can get it to store quite alot of text but it cuts off at a certain limit, also it is also no longer formatted when it is retrieved. the field is set to text. Id be very grateful if someone can tell me if i am going the right way about this.

Importing Text File
I am attempting to import data from a text file. There are many records
to be imported and the raw file format is:

"1 |010-5502-502 |16H1-7-3 |CONTACT, ELECTRICAL,
7/8in. |356.0000 |0.0000"
"1 |03-06-1062 |16H3-5-1 |RECEPTACLE,FREE
HANGING 6 CON.|1.0000 |0.0000"
"1 |03-06-2061 |16H2-8-2 |PLUG, POWER CONNECTOR
|3.0000 |0.0000"

Obviously, a delimiter is the | symbol. How can I do this?

Re-write Text File
i'm creating a log file regarding database operations. My problem is i want to append a new record into the log file each time i update my database. Previously I've used the following method to create a file:

SELECT * INTO OUTFILE 'c:/"+fileName[i]+" '
FIELDS TERMINATED BY '|'
LINES TERMINATED BY '
'
FROM "+tableName[i]+";

MY problem is I cannot re-use the file created. Is there any way to call the same file for the purpose of re-use. Or maybe the OUTFILE do not allow file created to be re-use.

How To Import Text File?
I am using MAMP and am trying to import a large text file (up to 30mb) that is defined by position i.e., space 1-8 = ID, space 9-14 = Description, etc. The only option for import is via SQL or CSV file.

Loading A Text File
To insert information into my tables ive been trying to create a .txt with all the information in. bit when i try to load it by entering
mysql> LOAD DATA LOCAL INFILE '/path/"name".txt' INTO TABLE "name"; it comes up with
ERROR 2 (HY000): File 'path"name".txt' not found (Errcode: 2)
ive been saving my .txt file onto the desktop.

Text File Import
I'm importing a large text file (8 million lines) into a mysql table via the heidisql front end. Each line has 42 fields (tab separated) so there's a lot of data to bring in.

I tested the import with a truncated version of the text file (10,000 lines) and the import worked fine. It took about a minute (i think) to import. Now though, the full version (which is 800x as long) has been importing for nearly 48 hours. Heidisql seems to be still working - it hasn't frozen, it's busy.

Is it normal for a file of this size to take so long to import?

Updating A Text File Using Php
well I have this text file "lingo.txt" that has a list of abbreviations which are used in a game I play. to make thing interactive i was hoping that visiters would be able to add there own abbreviation and the meaning of it to the "lingo.txt" file and then other people can download it

I know you can easily do this with a MySQL database (which I do have)but I wont them to be able to downlaod the list of words

I have found a way to update the file using the fwrite and fopen comands but thats deletes the last input where as i want them all save to a long list.

Inserting Text File
I've created a simple database that stores various little bits of information using varchar datatypes. But for each record i need to store a textfile that specifically has 60 characters per line. What i want to do is load the text in a way such that it remebers the new line characters, so that when i print it out on a webpage using perl cgi / dbi it prints the file out the way i want- i.e 60 characters per line and therefore multiple lines. Is there a way i can do this?

Read Text From A File
I have a text file which contains the following data

1&david&0248814&software engg&1973
2&thomas&8475623&commerse&1965

I have created a table <info> with the attributes
nr
name
reg_nr
sub
born_yr

I need to somehow read the data from the file n insert them into the table attributes...
does anyone over here know how could this be done ?
to insert the data to the table could be done with insert into <table> values <value> but the problem is how can i read it from the file...leaving the '&' sign ?

Text File Input
Just started to use mySQL and just also bought the mySQP Administrator's Guide - so sorry if simple question.
I need to create a new table with 25 columns, can I define this command line input via a text file?

i.e. instead of
mysql>CREATE New_Tab (col1_name, col1_type, etc....

I assume that you can use text files this way, but how do you run them.

I have seen the importing data from a file into a table;e.g.

mysql>load data local infile "myfile" into table New_Tab;

Loading From A Text File
I am using Xampp tool for a project which has to do with processing of lot of data. The problem is that hundreed thousands of data is generated every day in text file (comma separated or pipe separated doesnt matter) and all I want to do is to insert all these values in the appropriate tables. I looked for this feature in mysql GUI tools byt I couldnt find anything.
Another thing; Could be text file be imported automatically in any time we desire?

Import A Text File
I have a utf8 txt file to import in a MySQL db, cause I must create a
web-application in PHP for reading this information on-line.
I have create a new DB in MYSQL 4.1.1a setting CHARACTER=utf8,

Then, also my PHP application show this field with stranges
characters. I have try also with PHPfunction utf8_encode with no

Automatically Generate Text Excerpt For Text Near Keyword Hits?
I would like to generate an automatic text excerpt showing the text close to the first occurance of a keyword needle in a text haystack.

For example: searching for

keyword = "foo"

in a table called Webpages in the column Content = "Yadda, yadda, yadda. Bla, bla, bla foo yadda yadda yaddda bla bla bla"

would return a column called Excerpt = "...a, bla foo yadda yadd..."

Is this best done with PHP after fetching the entire column Content, or will it be more efficient to do directly with MySQL?

What would that SQL query look like?

Exporting Blob / Text Column With Hyphen Delimited Text

Orderby A Text Field As It Were An Integer Field
Is it possible to construct a query so that the orderby 'field' returns the rows as though the 'field' were an integer field, even though it is a text field? I do not want e.g. 10 to be before 2.

The field in question is called 'lagerantal' and is of type 'text'

INSERT Statement All Caps For Text
Is there a command to tell Mysql to enter text in all caps that I can put in the instert statement?

for instance:

something along those lines?

Multiline Text Box Insert To MySQL
I am trying to make a custom blog and have set up a form and a php script to insert the data into a mysql database.

However, when i type in to the multiline text box:
"test

more"

(note new lines)

It goes into the database but then when i preview the information in a webpage it comes out as:

"testtestmore", all on one line?

Inserting Text File Into Mysql...
Basically I'm new at this whole databasing thing (shudders) so please forgive me if my description of my problem is a little hodgepodge at best...

I use MySQL 4.0.27-standard w/ phpmyadmin...

Basically I have a friend doing most of the databasing for me so I'm good with that but he has alluded to something possibly being possible and I'd like to see if you wonderful folk could perhaps solve this.

I would basically like to upload a text file like that described below:

PHP

$$***+++***$$
Famous Person
$$$**--**$$$
content content content
$$***+++***$$
Famous Person
$$$**--**$$$
content content content
$$***+++***$$$
Famous Person
$$$**--**$$$
content content content
$$***+++***$$
etc...

So as you can see I could seperate the content in the text file (shown above) by some random string that won't occur elsewhere....

Then I'd like to place all the famous people in one field (.. whatever it's called)... With all the content in the field over from it. So like I'd have field : authors name = Famous Person 1, then field : information = content.

This would help so much w/ how fast I could get all the content into my site.. My friend has a degree in cpu programming so he's a smart cookie, but any code, or sources, or any help on how to do this would be appreciated.

Also if i left out anything important please just ask..

Storing Text From A Txt File In Mysql
i am looking for a a way to get data from a text file and putting right in to mysql db.

I have been searching but didn't find the thing i am looking for.

Convert Text File To Database?
I have a text file that looks like this:

col1 col2 col3 col4
1 asfd 67867 ghj
2 fghh 12312
3 tyut 90890 fgh

But it is over 200k lines. How would you recommend getting it into a MySQL format?

Load Text File Into Table
How to load text file into table in mysql 4.0.12

How To Create New Table From A Text File?
Is there a GUI utility which can create a new table in my mysql
database from a 50 million-record text file? I want mysql to get the
data into the database as whatever it can - varchar etc. I can change
columns later to double.... unless mysql is intelligent enough to see
that the field in the text file is numeric.

Formatted Output To A Text File
I'd like to be able to write selected fields from a table to a csv text file. However, I need to be able to write some header lines to the file first, then the csv data, then some footer lines.

Question 1: What is the best way to do this. Using the SELECT ... INTO OUTFILE won't allow me to write the headers and footers. TEE includes the mysql> prompts, etc. There doesn't seem to be a straight forward fopen, printf sort of commands.

Question 2: How do you write a string like the header lines? PRINT doesn't seem to work.

Executing SQL Statements From A Text File
In earlier versions of MySql I used to execute SQL statements from a text file like this..

mysql nuke < nuke.sql

but for some reason since I have upgraded to MySQL version 5.0, whenever I try this command from the Window command prompt I get this error...

ERROR 1045  (28000):  Access denied for user 'ODBC'@'localhost'

any ideas?

Convert MySQL To Text File
Does anyone know how to convert a MySQL database to text file. I think it has to be converted to allow me to upload it onto my web host.

Tab Delimited Text File Into Mysql
I wish to put a text file into a mysql table.
The text file entries are delimitated by tabs.
Example:

123 456 7 89
(That is, '123' is a data, '456' is a data but also '7 89' is a single data).

What command should I use?
I wish to use LOAD DATA INFILE but in wich way?
Something like

LOAD DATA INFILE "myfile.dat" into table01(a, b, c);

would be enought or I'll have only '7' and not '7 89'in row c?

Importing A Text File To MySQL
I've looked at the other issues involving importing a text file and it appears my situation is different.  I have a web host which provides me with a MySQL database, however, I also use the MySQL Administrator on my XP PRO machine at home.  I use it to log into my account on the web host and can do some work that way.  I'd really like to import a text file to a table but I can't figure how to do it.
