How Often Is Best To Create New Database, Migrate Data With Shared Hosting?
I have got a web site that I have ben working on since March, 2007. It is a news reporting web site. It is replacing an older web site. I created a new database (it uses the MySQL database) last March when I started working on the new web site. I have migrated all of the news content from the old web site database to the new web site database. I have a shared web hosting. It's my understanding that the hosting service provider fills up one server with databases then starts a new server with databases. For example, the IP for the server that is hosting the current database for the new web site is 10.6.166.5 I just created a new database (the hosting allows you to have ten databases per shared hosting). The IP for the server for the recently created database for the new web site hosting is 10.6.166.92 If the servers are ordered sequentially there have been 87 new servers filled up with databases since last March (i.e. 10.6.166.92 recently created IP minus 10.6.166.5 March, 2007 IP equals 87 servers). The problem with migrating the nine-month old database to the new database is that I have got over a thousand news stories and two thousand pictures stored in the database with the 10.6.166.5 IP address. I would have to copy and paste all of the data into the phpMyAdmin program or write a PHP script that would automate the process. Is there any benefit to migrating the 10.6.166.5 March, 2007 IP database over to the more recently created 10.6.166.92 IP database? Would it be reasonable to expect the more recently created database to perform better over the next 12 to 18 months than the one created nine months ago?

Convert MSAccess Db To PHP And MySQL
I created an MSAccess db a few years ago that I want to use online. My ISP uses PHP and MySQL. I was able to convert the db to MySQL using DBTools Manager Professional and create alot of the forms for individual tables by using PHPMyEdit. I don't know how to re-create some of the forms that use lookup values or queries (let alone if or how you create a lookup table in MySQL or create sub-forms) I've been reading up on PHP and MySQL but unfortunately, like a lot of us, do not have the time to develop the skills and I was at one point hoping there is a software package or process for doing the complete migration. After my limited research I figure that I should take a different approach. Rather than try to migrate what I have, I should maybe rebuild using the tables and forms I have already converted and get some help from others. The ultimate question is then: Can I post the process my MSAccess db does in hopes that someone can tell me how to build it in PHP and MySQL?

Migrating An MsAccess DB To MySQL
Well, as the subject of this post says, I want to convert a microsoft access database into a MySQL database. I'm already running Ubuntu 6 server with a LAMP installation. The MySQL server is already up and running and I've created some test databases. The Access database is located on a Windows server. I have full permissions to the Access database and the MySQL database. I'd like the migration to be as simple and painless as possible. Any recommendations on free tools to use?

Migrate DB From 5.0.51a To 5.1.30
It has a relatively large (17 table) database which is basically a custom made forum. It was made in MySQL 5.0.51a which at that time came as part of the WAMP5 server package for Windows. It has been about a year since I worked on it. Foolishly, I did not keep hold of the WAMP5 package that I used. I have downloaded the new WAMP5 package, which comes with MySQL 5.1.30. At first, the old database was not visible to the new MySQL server version. On the old backup I have, the data was located in C:wampinmysqlmysql5.0.51adataaaron_forum. I have basically moved the aaron_forum directory to the new MySQL data directory at C:wampinmysqlmysql5.1.30data and it is now picked up by the new MySQL server installation... however... it doesn't contain any tables according to my PHP, or indeed to the MySQL server. What is odd, is that it does actually display all 17 tables, but then when I try to open a table, it says that it doesn't exist. Quite interesting. I wanted to know if there is a way to migrate the data from the 5.0.51a generated MySQL server to the new 5.1.30 server?

Migrate Only Differing Rows?
Im currently using 'mysqldump' to dump the entire contents of my local database to my remote database. This was fine, but now the database is huge, so I would like to know if there is a MySQL command/statement that compares the two databases and then only uploads rows that have been updated on the local database. Is this possible to do? I can do this through PHP in a loop, but this takes ages, and I have a feeling there is a much more efficient way to do it using SQL statements.

Can't Connect To Local MySQL Server Through Socket '/home/data/mysql/mysql.sock' (13)
I just installed mysql on linux. If I open a terminal, su to root, then type "mysql", I am able to connect to the server and run my queries. If I exit out of su so that I am my own id (baisley) and type "mysql", I get this error: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/home/data/mysql/mysql.sock' (13) Any idea why? mysql.sock has full permissions (read/write/execute), so it should be accessable by user baisley. If I am baisley and I run "mysql -u mysql" (as mysql is the user that the RPM set up), it will connect. What I would like to be able to do is run this without having to be user mysql all the time. How do I go about setting that up, or is it better to run all my queries/make tables as 1 user?

How Do I Convert Data From Mysql 5.0.27 To Mysql 4.025
I am trying to migrate to a professional web hosting company. The problem is that when I backup my database from my computer and import it into their mysql database, I am getting an error that says, no database selected. I believe that this is due to the different table structure between my version of mysql (5.0.27) and their version of mysql (4.025). How do I do a data dump from mysql (5.0.27) that would be compatible with their mysql (4.025)?

Retrieve MySQL Data
Until recently I ran a php/apache mySQL wbsite on MacOSX. For some reason I can't get the machine working again so now the site is offline. I succeeded to copy the MySQL data from the Mac OX partition. However, this is the 'raw' data - not a SQLdump but the frm, myd and myi files for each table. The data is not of much use if I want to use it in a website again, I'd rather have a SQLdump. So now my question is: Can I just add these files in the data directory of another mySQL installation I setup locally under win2k and be able to make a dql dump?

UniqueID B ParamN Values of ParamN (") UniqueID C Param1 1Cv1 1Cv2 1Cv3 UniqueID C Param2 2Cv1 2Cv2 2Cv3 UniqueID C Param3 3Cv1 3Cv2 3Cv3 UniqueID C ... UniqueID C ... UniqueID C ParamN Values of ParamN (") I want to transpose these data to Unique ID Param1 Param2 Param3 ... ParamN A All Corresponding Values ie. v1, v2, v3 for each ID B All Corresponding Values " C All Corresponding Values " The Pivot Table in Excel seems to be perfect for this except that I can't get it to display the actual data values for each Unique ID as opposed to Summaries, Count etc.

Mysql Data Insertion
I have quite a bit of records I need to insert into a database. My question is, would it be possible to insert them even though the key fields might be the same. I'm basically wanting to add records that were added after a backup was restored, thereby the new records have taken the old record's, beyond a certain point, record IDs. Can this easily be done or would I need to make sure the record IDs started with a number after the last record in the database table right now? Would the IDs be ignored/changed if I were to just import the data directly into mysql? I definitely do not want to lose any data.

MySQL Security Of Data
Although I'm gradually getting the hang of working with MySql, can do a pretty mean query!! I realise I know nowt about security. Is security basically done outside MySQL ie with https:// and is it necessary/usual to have the database itself on a https server or just the code accessing it? Is there any level of security that can actually be applied at the mysql level, somebody in Usenet talked about RoT13 which is pretty feeble of course.
