Moving MySQL From Windows To Linux

Is it possible to develop a database on Windows and then copy it to Linux? In Oracle it's not possible to simply copy the database between platforms, I just wondered if MySQL is the same.

Moving Mysql Database From Linux To Windows
I have to move my mysql 5 database from linux to windwos system. Can this be done by moving files from data folder or do I have to dump the data then import it back to new system?

Moving Mysql Database From MAC To Windows
I have to move a database from a MAC with MYSQL to Windows. The MAC has MYSQL 4.0.18 loaded.

The phpmyadmin is not working on MAC machine so I tried to just copy the database files to the Windows machine mysql 4.0.21

After this mysql crashes when I try to open the databases with phpmyadmin.

A popup window appears and called DBUG Test signal Confirming this message causes mysql to fail.
In my phpmyadmin it get the message server not responding.

I also tried to recreate the empty tables on the Windows machine and just copy the .MYD and .MYI files into the Windows machine, leaving the .frm files. This worked on some tables but on others I have corrupted data in it and some tables are shown as in use.

The MAC mysql database does have 2 files that the Windows doesn't. ._.DS_Store and ._DS_Store.

Are the MYSQL files for those 2 system not compatible? If not How can I convert the database files? The database is still working on the MAC so I do not think the database is corrupt.

Mysql, Linux Or Windows?
Does mysql work on windows or it has to be on linux only?

so how do i logging as root? on windows i just used the terminal thing but now i dont have that (well to the point where it asks you to login)

Mysql, Linux Or Windows
Does mysql work on windows or it has to be on linux only?

Is MySql Syntax Different On Windows Vs. Linux?
On our team, we're working on a database. One copy is on the PC. The other copy is on Linux. I wanted to send a new table to the Linux guy. I went into MySQL Query Browser, did a "Copy CREATE statement to clipboard", and pasted the SQL code into a new email and sent it to my Linux guy. He tells me that the code fails every time. Here's what It looks like:

Can A MySQL Database Be Shared Between Windows And Linux?
I've got Windows and Linux running on my computer, on seperate partitions. I also have a shared partition for stroing files, and can be read and written by either system.

I also have MySQL installed on both systems. When I make changes to the database in Windows, I have to do a dump of the database (or single tables) to a text file on my shared partition. I then have to switch into Linux and load that file into MySQL there. This is a bit of a hassle.

Is it possible to somehow store the database file on the shared partition, and use the same database from both OSes? This would be very convenient, since I wouldn't have to maintain two copies of the same database!

Access Linux Mysql Server From Windows?
Can I run a Mysql server on a linux box, and access the databases belonging to it over a lan from a machine running windows xp?

Windows Vs Linux
We currently run our MySQL on linux. Could someone advise me on the watch outs on moving MySQL to windows and also if there is any performance loss as a result?

From Windows To Linux
I've got a production MySQL database running on a Linux server, but do my development on a Windows laptop.

I recently overhauled an existing app and needed to write data conversion routines in order for my existing data to map to some new data layouts.

I'm running the conversion on my laptop, so I don't mess up the existing production data.  I will be running some tests in parallel before going live with the new app.

When I run the conversion, Windows sets all the table names to all lower case.  So when I load the data to my Linux box, the table names are all wrong.

Is there anyway to force MySQL to maintain it's case on a Windows machine so that I don't have discrepancies from one OS to another?

Windows Or Linux?
I am developing a website using php, MySQL and Apache on my home pc which uses WinXP. I am pretty sure that I will not be able to find a web host who will support Apache on Windows, so I guess I will have to go for one that uses Linux. If I do this, is there a serious difference between the way I need to write the PHP code, or is it just the same.

Windows To Linux Server
I am trying to set up a a Mysql driver on a linux server from a windows machine. I get the following error.

[MySQL][ODBC 3.51 Driver]Host '(server number)' is not allowed to connect to this MySQL server

Is it likely that the windows-linux combination is causing a problem here?

Using Database In Windows By Linux
I am hosting an intranet on a machine with dual boot in both win98 and
RH9 Linux. the intranet was first set up and running in win98. I have
a mysql database in the win98 . The win98 partition is mounted in
Linux and is accessible. I am duplicating the intranet in Linux. the
HTML pages are accessing from the win98 partition. Is there a way to
use the database as such by the intranet in the Linux.

Windows And Linux Versions
I would like to know what are the main differences between windows and linux versions of this DB system.

I´m using it on linux but i´m planning to migrate to windows...

Is there any performance difference? Is it as solid as linux version? It´s of free use (under GPL) ?

I made a test here in windows and it seems to work well..

Mysql Linux To Mysql Windows
i have been running mysql on rehl4 and now the powers that be want to move the databases to a central windows 2003 server running the windows version of mysql.

how on earth do i import my dump file in the window version? i am familiar with doing it in linux but i cannot figure out the mysql command line tool that comes with the windows package.

How To Copy InnoDB From Linux To Windows
I am trying to copy an InnoDB Database (mysql) from a linux system to a Windows XP machine.. I copied the files under /mysql/data/mydatabase/ files to the same one on my windows machine, and I copied anotehr 3 files from the the /data folder which I read about in mysql.com (indata1, and two log files)...

All the database worked expect for the child tables (that has relation with other tables)..

Did I do anything wrong, or is there another way to transfer the database..

Connection Problem !!! Windows To Linux
I wrote a program application for windows which can add and delete data
from this application, it working fine with my own MySQL install on the
same windows OS.. Now I try to change the connection this dayabase to
the server whihc runnign under linux, and create the same database, same
user and password. But when I connect the error message said:
[MySQL][ODBC 3.51 Driver] Host'219.95.155.119' is not allowed to
connect to this MYSQL Server.

But form the database, I added the host "%", means hsould be allow any
host... anyone can help me on this? the application I wrote will be
using with dynamic IP everytime user dial-up to the internet connect.

Updates Invisible - Windows Only (Linux OK)
I have one Java app writing records to a database (App A) and another,
a Java web application running under Tomcat, displaying the records.
Call this App B.

When I first log into App B and get a connection, all records in the
database at that point get displayed OK.

But after that, any new records inserted by App A do not get displayed
when I refresh (running the query again).

If I log out of App B and log in again, getting a new conection, I see
all the new records.

This behaviour only occurs if I'm running on Windows. If I run the
database on my Linux box with the same application code, new records
inserted by App B are immediately visible to App B with no need to
close the connection and open a new one.

Query Behaving Differently In Windows And Linux
I have a query to find the blog entries that are most commented:

SELECT blog.*, COUNT(blogcomment.id) AS cnt FROM blog, blogComment WHERE blog.ID=blogComment.BLOG_ID GROUP BY blogComment.BLOG_ID ORDER BY cnt DESC

The query works fine on my development machine running Windows mysql 5.0.22 but on my Linux server running the same version of mysql (5.0.22) I get the following error:
#1054 - Unknown column 'blogcomment.id' in 'field list'

Any ideas why it works differently on the two servers? Suggestions on a better written query is ofcourse welcome too

Sharing Database Tables Between Windows & Linux
I'm new to MySQL (using v4.1) and have a dual boot machine with Windows and Debian Linux (Etch).

My goal is to share a table named "wordpress" between Linux and Windows by storing it on a FAT32 mount (I realise this limits me to 4GB in total).

From what I can see at the moment, the "wordpress" tables live under /var/lib/mysql/wordpress.

Numerous searches have revealed how to backup data, but I haven't seen any clues on how to permanently reloate a database to another location.

Linux Server V/s Windows Server ( WebServer - LAMP V/s WAMP)
My client wants to use WAMP ( Windows + apache + MySQL + PHP ). But the
site performance is very slow on windows. I dont know the exact
reasons.

I have seen some benchmark details on internet. But still they are not
having concrete facts to support LAMP as a better alternative to WAMP.
Allmost all the search done on google melts down to IIS vs Apache, My
main concern is "Apache on LINUX" v/s "Apache on Windows" and similarly
for PHP/MySQL.

JOIN Issue On WIndows Install But Not Linux Install
I am using MySQL 5.0.15 on windows and cannot run this query:

SELECT a.*,b.name, c.fullname,d.fullname FROM access_authorization a, building b
LEFT JOIN users c ON a.createdby=c.id
LEFT JOIN users d ON a.modifiedby=d.id
WHERE a.sortcode=b.sortcode AND a.sortcode like '1,2,1,6%' LIMIT 0, 25

I receive:
ERROR 1054 (42S22): Unknown column 'a.createdby' in 'on clause'

But this query DOES work under my linux 5.0.0-alpha!

I can modify the SQL Statement to the following and it works fine:

SELECT a.*,b.name, c.fullname,d.fullname FROM access_authorization a
LEFT JOIN users c ON a.createdby=c.id
LEFT JOIN users d ON a.modifiedby=d.id
RIGHT JOIN building b ON a.sortcode=b.sortcode
WHERE a.sortcode like '1,2,1,6%' LIMIT 0, 25 .

Moving Around In Mysql
within mysql if I am typing several lines of code and i realize I made typing mistake on a line how do I navigte backwards to change that typing error without having to type everything all over again? Also if i get a sql error is there anyway I can hit key that brings up the entire block of typed code ? The only thing i see that I can do is hit my up arrow which only brings up the last line of code i typed.

Moving Mysql Db
I have two domain names. www.myfirstdomain.ca and www.my_second_domain.ca (not real of course).

I set up my oscommerce site on the www.myfirstdomain.ca because the second was not available. I now have the second domain (www.my_second_domain.ca), which is my company name. I now need to transfer ALL my data and files over to the new domain.

I have one (1) host and both domains are pointing to the same site.
When I set up Oscommerce I put all my data (products) in the catalog folder.
So the path to my site would be www.myfirstdomian.ca/catalog
I have copied every thing from that path to the main path: /html (which is the public folder) The name of the mySql database is myfirstdomain.ca_oscommerce.
When I check the links on all my pics they all point to the first domain.
Now, when I open my site I get my index page. The url is correct. When I click on any of the category links I am taken to an error page.

How Do I transfer everything to my company domain, have the links changed to where the images are now stored and have everything work the way it use to?

Moving To MySQL 4.1
Is there any safe way to install MySQL 4.1 on different port, leaving 3.x version on standard 3306 on Linux? I can't find any material on the topic

Moving From MS Access To MySQL
I have a database application written in asp that works with an ms access database.

I am moving the application to a server that supports asp but not access. It has mysql available.

I have used a converter programme to create a mysql dump file which I have checked I can use to create a new mysql copy of the original access database. So far, so good.

I understand that changing the connection file from access to mysql working is not difficult but I cannot find a suitable tutorial to explain this or how/where/if I need to edit my existing asp files.

Moving Mysql To Another Server
I'm looking to move my website to a new server. Is it easy to backup, install and restore mysql? Is there a step by step process I can follow? I've had a look around but can't find anything specific for mysql.

Moving Data From MS SQL To MySql
I have a ms sql database with about 100,000 rows of data and I am archive the large text fields into a mysql table. I wrote code (cold fusion) to move the data, but I am having problems with the conversion of some of the characters.

My guess is our site users copied their data from a word document into our system and ms sql supports the character set that was uploaded, but mySQL doesn't, or I have a setting wrong somewhere? If mysql doesn't support the character set is there a way to clean it before I post it to mysql? Code:

Moving An Access DB To MySQL
I have a client that I am thinking of migrating to MySQL and away from MS Access. I have database skill as far as Oracle Administration and SQL statements but am definitely not knowledgable when it comes to front ends.

I know that MS Access has an easy VB WYSIWYG form builder (at least the last time I looked at it which is about 4 years ago) and I am curious as to what is available for building forms for MySQL.

Getting their data from MS Access to MySQL will be a snap but I don't know how I would provide them with a graphical front end to allow them to add/delete data. I know WYSIWYG is laughable but I am not a programmer and their needs will be quite small. Probably only 2 or 3 screens needed for manipulation of data.

Moving MySQL Database
I have to move a MySQL database from one server to another one and all the files that form the website.Basically I'm trying to get some comments and ideas before I do this task.

Moving MySQl Database
I've tried moving the database from one partition to another and now I'm =
getting the following error:
# Starting mysqld daemon with databases from /data/mysql
030820 23:48:08 mysqld ended
When I issue #/ /usr/share/mysql/mysql.server start

Anyone have any idea what's gone wrong. I changed the datadir in both =
/etc/my.cnf and /usr/share/mysql/mysql.server.

This is on a MySQL-3.23.55-1 server.

Moving A MySQL Database
I know that you can export the sql to a file, which I have done already. But to make it work on the new server what do I do? Do I just upload it and run the file? Or do I need to SSH it? Or can I write a PHP script to create the database and subsequently insert all the data?

TIMEDIFF Failure After Moving From MySQL 4 To 5
I've already figured out what has happened, but check out this query:

SELECT
TIMEDIFF(񟭇-01-31 01:01:01',񟭆-06-12 01:01:01') as timediff,
DATEDIFF(񟭇-01-31 01:01:01',񟭆-06-12 01:01:01') as datediff,
UNIX_TIMESTAMP(񟭇-01-31 01:01:01')-UNIX_TIMESTAMP(񟭆-06-12 01:01:01') as unixtimediff
Pretty straight forward, however, observe the results in Mysql 4 vs. 5:

MySQL 4:

+------------+----------+--------------+
| timediff | datediff | unixtimediff |
+------------+----------+--------------+
| 5592:00:00 | 233 | 20134800 |
+------------+----------+--------------+

MySQL 5:

+-----------+----------+--------------+
| timediff | datediff | unixtimediff |
+-----------+----------+--------------+
| 838:59:59 | 233 | 20134800 |
+-----------+----------+--------------+
Drove me NUTS till I figured out that MySQL 5 truncates your values! Yay! See the warning after the mysql 5 query reads:

+---------+------+----------------------------------------------+
| Level | Code | Message |
+---------+------+----------------------------------------------+
| Warning | 1292 | Truncated incorrect time value: 񠥈:00:00' |
+---------+------+----------------------------------------------+
My solution, already shown with the unixtimediff, was pretty easy and looks like it will work just fine.

I couldn't find note of this change anywhere, so I figured I'd post in case anyone ever hits this wall. (Actually, I did find that in the manual for 4.1 and 5 it states the max range is '-838:59:59' to õb:59:59' however, this was obviously not enforced in 4. :/ )

Need Some Guidance About Moving From Oracle To Mysql
I currently work with Oracle 9i databases and a couple of Oracle Developer versions. Ive been wanting to learn more about mysql as a replacement for an Oracle database in some applications. The question is, what is the preferred development tool to use for the user interface to replace Oracle forms and reports?

Moving An Existing MySQL Database From
I have an existing database already created on 4.0.25-standard. It is too large to import to my new server via phpmyadmin, so I'm using mysqldump. The new server has MySQL 4.1.12 instead of 4.0.25. I am running this command:

mysqldump -u root -p starfall < smf1 --create-options --compatible=mysql40

but I get this: Code:

Moving The Mysql Data Folder
We have a system that has been running for about one year. The thing is that the mysql data folder is on the c: partition and the diskspace is low, I wan't to move the data folder to the d: partition where it's lots of free diskspace.

So my question is can i stop the mysql server copy the datafolder to the d: partition and edit my.ini regarding the path for the datafolder and start up the mysql server again without bumping in to problems??? Or is there any other suggestions on how to solve this?

I'm going to move the folders on 2 servers (master-- slave mysql servers)

Moving MySQL Data To RAMDisk
On moving my data files from /var/lib to /mnt/ramdisk I seem to be missing something. I've changed every .ini and .conf file I can find (/etc/my.cnf, /etc/init.d/mysql, /etc/init.d/mysqld, /etc/php.ini and /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf (for DAV-lock)).

MySQL seems to start ok, but when I use my application through Apache the error message is that MySQL is not running (I think it's just not finding it).

Moving Mysql Backup From Version 4.1.12 To 5.0.3
i dont have much experience in databases or Mysql.i have my data
in development m/c with Mysql 4.1.12, i have to move them to production
m/c with Mysql 5.0.3 .when tried it showed error with displaying

any ideas for making happen moving backup from Mysql 4.1.12 to Mysql
5.0.3 ?

Moving Data From Access To Mysql
I am writing a program in java that is to move the data from MS Access to MySQL. There already is a table structure of the Access database in MySQL, all I need to do is move the data from Access to MySQL. I was hoping that someone may have done this before and could give me some pointers as to which would be the best way to implement this. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, the database is not huge so that is not really a factor.

Moving Mysql To Another Hard Disk
I have a web based intranet application (php) that uses a mysql database. The server has just had a new drive added to it and am looking for a way to move the database from the current c drive to this new drive.I'm looking for a way to either:

move the entire database to the new drive (in which case do i have to do anything within the code - the database name is still the same and i'll presume another drive is still localhost can)

Can i just make Mysql save data into the new drive (and also move just the old data file to the new drive leaving everything else as it was).

Moving MySql From Development Server To Other Servers
I am using Dreamweaver with php, mysql and Godaddy for Hosting. I have a website developed that runs fine locally using the localhost for both the Web app and MySql. What is the process that I go to to move or export the databse from the development server to Godaddy's MYSQL server. I have not found an "export" function using MySQL Adminstrator, or MySQL Control Center.

Moving A Forum (phpbb2) With Apache And MySQL
I was wondering if there was a tutorial for moving a complete server from one PC to another and have it exactly like it was, besides IP's exc exc. If you could give me a few steps to back up all my stuff in MySQL and PHPBB it would answer my question.

Moving MySql Database To Hosting Server
I'm having a MySql database running fine on my local machine (WinXp Pro), where Apache2 is running as a local server.

My database application (PHP) is doing everything it needs to do on my local server.
The next step is to move my database to my hosting site. I see that my hosting site (siteflip.com) is using cPanel as an interface to my web space. I can create new MySql databases and via phpMyAdmin I can create new tables and content.

However, I'm looking for a way to get rid of these things.  I would like to put my MySql files (so, tables and records, the whole content of my database), which are on my local PC (in the 'datadir' directory), directly on the site.

Does anyone know if this is possible and so, how it can be done?

Moving Mysql Databases From Laptop To Workstation
does anyone know how to migrate a mysql database from place of creation(my laptop) to a workstation. I am using mysql browser and when i open it up and try and select on the databases this error appears for each of the tables.

Can't open file: <tablename>.InnoDB (errno:1) .

MySQL V4.0 -> Red Hat Linux 9
I'm having great problems trying to install the latest MySQl RPM
package onto my Red Hat Linux OS.

There is already MySQL v 3.0 pre-installed with the RH Linux
distribution disk but I can not seem to get any of the functions
working on it. So I have now dopwnloaded the latest version hoping
that this will fix the error.

I have managed to install the MySQL-shared-compat-4.0.1-0.i386.rpm but
i'm getting the following error message when I install
MySQL-server-4.0.1-0.i386.rpm : Code:

Mysql On Linux
I am interested in connecting to my MySql database that is running (default install) on FC4. I want to connect to the db with my Windoze machine using MySql Query Browser. Both machines are behind a router; the gateway is 192.168.0.1. The Linux ip address is 192.168.0.50 and the windows is 192.168.0.11 (both static). I guess I need to learn how to determine the mysql host and port when connecting. I thought it would just be 192.168.0.50 and 3306 respectively, it's not working.

Mysql In Linux
I have installed MySQl in linux and its working properly. I wrote an c++ program to connect to mysql database, which is capable of retrieving, deleting the values from database table. The problem i am facing is i am unable to insert values into the table at runtime. Can anyone please help me as to how to write the query?
