MySQL Redhat Slow Responding To Connections

I have installed MySQL 3.53 on two RH7.3 and one RH9.0 boxes.
On one of the 7.3 and the 9.0 box, when I try to connect remotely, it
takes about 45 seconds to connect, whereas the other 7.3 box connects
almost immediately.

The fast box has standard install of 7.3 with tomcat added.
The 9.0 box is straight RH9.0 standard install.

I can't find anything in common between the slow boxes, but not on the
fast one.

Slow Connections
I am using MyODBC-3.51.11-2-win on Win 2003 OS. I am not able to see all of the connections in the list under the System DSN tab. The connections that show allow the ASP pages to run at an expected rate.

However, the ones not showing in the list are running extremely slow. If I attpemt to recreate the connection I am told that the connection already exists and asks if I want to replace the existing connection. Wheter I click yes or no the connections do not show and the pages run slowly. How do I get them to show or resolve the issue. The ASP code is the exact same SQL statements and connection strings as the in previous applications.

MYSQL Stops Responding
I've been running MySQL for about 3 months on a dedicated Win2003 server as a back in to a vbulletin forum with no problems.

Over the last week I've had the database stop responding a couple of times. When I tried to cycle the service it would never stop.

Now while I've been running MySQL for sometime I've not done much except make some tweaks to the config suggested on some forum I don't even remember. So I'm not expert, hence my post in the Newbie forum.

So I have a somewhat busy forum, I guess, doing between 30000 and 40000 page views a day.

Here are my details:
Server OS: Windows 2003 Server
Web Server: IIS6
PHP on web server: PHP 4.4.0
MySQL version: 4.1.14-nt
Main database is about 500 Megs

The first time it stopped responding was during the day during our busies time and the 2nd time was in the middle of the night during a backup. So now my question. I don't even know where to start to troubleshoot my problem.

Xampp, MySQL Not Responding
Alright, so after struggling for about a week to get Apache, PHP, and MySQL working properly together, I gave up and installed Xampp.

It installed fine, and after some tweaking I was able to get to the phpMyAdmin login page, and it gives me this error:

#2013 - Lost connection to MySQL server during query

I was watching mysqld-nt.exe in my processes for a little bit, and noticed that it never changes... Never uses any CPU power, Memory Usage stays at 4,288 K... Is that normal? Even when processing queries?

MySQL Stops Responding
I am running a perl script which launches many processes simultaneously (using Parallel::ForkManager package), each fork gets data from a website and writes it to a MySQL database (there are usually 200+ simultaneous connections). It's very data intensive (I make roughly 3 million page requests per day).

My problem is that after this program runs for a day or so, I am no longer able to write to the database. It basically locks itself! I cannot even properly shut it down (using mysqladmin -u root -p shutdown). I end up having to use "kill -9" as root user to shut it down and restart.

The only thing I notice is that the table_locks_immediate is huge (around 4 million).

I have set my max_connections to 800 and a "show status" usually has no more than 200 threads_connectes (as controlled by ForkManager).

Mysql Stops Responding
I am using mysql 3.*. I have several php scripts and java programs which access the mysql server. But from yesterday both my java and php programs keep on waiting for the mysql server. Everything worked well for about 2 days. All started yesterday.
Mysql and my java and php programs are running on linux. Linux has glibc 2.2.*

RedHat 8 And MySQL
I recently ran across an interesting problem, and I'm curious as to whether any of you out there have had the same problem.

A friend of mine was trying to get his MySQL server running on RedHat, and was having a difficult time. He could not connect from his windows workstation. After a short look at his user table, I could see it was set up to only allow local connections (an obvious default security measure). This is where it gets wierd.

From a SSH session, I created a super user with full rights to all databases on all hosts (allowed login from any host). But my friend still couldn't connect from his workstation. I finally realized that the mysql daemon is appending '@localhost' on the supplied username no matter what the user supplies. Thus, a non-local connection fails.

Perhaps I'm missing something here...I am obviously not a MySQL expert. But I was able to get my MySQL running very quickly on my Mandrake 9 box. It seems RedHat has made some changes to its distribution of MySQL. I'm not sure what to do next.

RedHat 9.0 MySQL, PHP CREATE
I have a RedHat 9.0 web server setup for intranet use. When the webmaster tries to use his CREATE DATABASE and CREATE TABLE scripts it tells him that he doesn't have the permission to do it. I've given all the necessary permissions to do it, I think. Any suggestions?

MySQL On Redhat Linux
To make a long story short, let me say I had MySQL working on Windows 98
and everything was fine. Well, I took the big leap and removed all
traces of Windows and Microsoft from the computer. (hooray!) Once I had
Linux running OK, I downloaded and installed MySQL using an RPM package.
I guess the server is running (it says it is every time the computer
starts and it stops successfully every time the computer shuts down)
however, I cannot figure out how to get the MySQL prompt.

I've searched the entire hard drive for MySQL, mysql, MySQL*, mysql* and
probably some others, too. The only thing I found was a shell script
called mysql that starts or stops the server if I am logged in to Linux
as root. I cannot figure out how to start the interactive program that
allows me to make select statements, inserts, updates, etc.
I'm wondering about some things:

Did I download and install the wrong thing?
Am I just not looking for the correct thing?

Did I install it incorrectly?

MySQL As Part Of RedHat 9 Install
When I did my RedHat9 install, I choose Workstation and customized the
packages I wanted install. As a part of that customization, I chose
mySQL DB; however, I can't seem to find any RedHat documentation that
says how to get to these installed packages. I would like to just start
using them, but not sure where to start. Any hints to get up and going
quickly?

Problem Installing MySQL Max Rpm On RedHat 9
SELECT *
FROM Distance, LorryDetails
WHERE cavan = (Select min (cavan) From Distance where cavan>0);

here is the results i am getting

source ,Cavan, Athlone, Cork, Galway ,LorryID, LorryReg, Position
Athlone 90 0 180 80 3 02-CN-8001 Cork
Athlone 90 0 180 80 7 00-CN-1000 Cavan
Athlone 90 0 180 80 10 02-G-8001 Galway
What i want to try and do is compare the Values with the Column names and get the shortest path. for example when you compare the position cort with the column cork it is 180, cavan is 90, and galway is 80. Galway is the nearest to athlone so i want to narrow down the results to just give me back the row where the position is equal to Galway.

Activating MySQL In RedHat Linux 9
After being absent for a while now I'm back with this question: Does anyone know of any guide on how to start mysql on Linux? Actually I was writing a long complain that mysql doesn't run on linux! But during the writing I could sort of fix it! Now it works, but only the mysql & test databases are not active coz their directory isn't created. I think I can do something for it myself! I just wanted to know if any of you went through the same experience: running mysql that is already installed with your Linux package, not grabbing a new mysql and deleting the old one and installing the new one!

Multiple Mysql Servers On Linux RedHat
I am trying to figure out how to install 2 different versions of MySQL, 4.x and 5.x on a Redhat 3 server.

Java In Linux (Redhat 9) To Access MySQL
Using a Java program, I can connect to the test database in MySQL. The
test database is installed using a MySQL utility, and it can be accessed
by any user without supplying a password. The relevant lines in my Java
(Java version 1.4.1) code are:

Connection con = null;
String url = "jdbc:mysql:///test"; // <== no user or password specified
con = DriverManager.getConnection(url);

However, when I try to connect to the accounting database (built as one
follows the Larry Ullman's "MySQL" book), the program fails. I need to
supply a user and a password. The relevant lines are now:

Connection con = null;
String url = "jdbc:mysql:///accounting?user=root&password=pswd"; // <==
con = DriverManager.getConnection(url);

I cannot get a connection. The error message is:

"Invalid authorization specification: Access denied for user:
'root@thorvald' (Using password: YES)"

(thorvald is my machine name.)

I have tried all sorts of variations on the url, trying to access the
accounting database, with no success. I can use the same user/password
of root/pswd within the mysql monitor to access anything I want.

Any ideas?

Again, I am using Linux (Redhat 9) , Java 1.4.1, MySQL 4.0.13, and the
MySQL ConnectorJ 3.0.8 (for Java access to MySQL).

Database Stops Responding
I'm having a little problem where my mysql 4.0.21 for some reason
stops "responding" until I do a flush-hosts. This is happening almost
every day.

It's a pretty heavy loaded server with at aprox 130 querys per second
(it might not be that loaded for some of you :) ).

I'm using the my-huge.cnf config, and allowing 350 max-connections.

Cannot Start New Install Of MySQL On RedHat Enterprise Linux
I've recently installed MySQL and PHP using YUM on a RedHat Enterprise Linux (RHEL 3) box. The output from rpm -ql | grep -i mysql shows the following are installed: Code:

# Of Mysql Connections
I was wondering what you guys thought about this. How many mysql connections do you think is to many on a php page?

Mysql Connections
I am currently running MySQL 5.0 on RHE3.

I would like to know if someone can tell me how can I get the total number of connections/session to the mysql server via the console or command line?

MySQL Connections
A shared hosting provider allows to setup 10 MySQL databases. The only thing is that each database is forced into having its own username and password, which means a separate connection has got to be made to each database.
Is there a way to join tables over the two connections

Thread_stack On Redhat 8.0
I saw this section in mysql manual.

"If you are using Red Hat 8.0 or a new glibc 2.2.x library, you should start mysqld with
the option --thread-stack=192K. (Use -O thread_stack=192K before MySQL 4.) If you
don’t do this, mysqld will die in gethostbyaddr() because the new glibc library requires
a stack size greater than 128K for this call. This stack size is now the default on MySQL

4.0.10 and above."

I am using red hat 8.0. Mysql is started automatically when my machine is started. How should I set this variable. Can I add this to my.cnf file and restart mysql. If so how should(format) I add it to the my.cnf file.

How Do You Open Mysql To Outside Connections?
I have a DB server and an APP server.

I am trying to open MySQL on the DB server so the APP server can connect to it.

I did the command:

GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON *.* TO 'USERNAME'@'%'
IDENTIFIED BY 'PW' WITH GRANT OPTION;

However, it still won't connect.

Closing MySQL Connections
Here's a question for you, my hosts have told me that that one my pages,
php, was causing their server to reboot because there were too many open
connections and that they should be closed.

Now, correct me if I am wrong but I thought that the connections were closed
after a minute of inactivity.

Does this sound right? Could open connections cause their server to reboot a
lot, say 3 times in 15 minutes? If so, what can I do about it?

How Do You Stop All The Connections To MySQL?
I don't want any application accessing my databases while performing the recovery operations. In Oracle, you can stop the TNS listener on the server side. What is the equivalent of this in MySQL?

Managing MySQL Connections...
MySQL is currently reaching its limit of connections, and is not responding to new ones. What would prevent against this?

Would closing the connection through PHP at the end of every page help with mysqli_close();

Or should I set my max_connections in the my.ini configuration file to a higher number?

What other ways can lower the amount of connections?

Best Practices For Php/mysql Connections
I'm working on a data intensive project right now and though I'm able to write code I'm by no means a php or mysql guru, to say I know 'just enough' would be a good statement. So I'd like to ask those who know better...

Without going into specifics; users will be searching the database, and/or adding data to the database. I would estimate that there will be far more searches than additions/edits.

One of my main concerns is managing the connection to the database for each user. What would the most efficient method be, generally speaking? I would think that I do not want them to establish a connection for each request.

Getting Mysql Error Too Many Connections
I have limited controll of the server settings for MySQL all I can do is create a database, a database user and delete database. I can also use myPhP admin to manage the tables and stuff but as far as controlling the sql server thats all on the hosting company.

I recently set up a forum boards (SMF forums its great) all of a sudden one day I went to optimize the tables and whammo the whole board stopped working.

When I went to log into plesk and go into My Php admin it keeps giving me this error

"Welcome to phpMyAdmin 2.6.0-pl3

phpMyAdmin tried to connect to the MySQL server, and the server rejected the connection. You should check the host, username and password in config.inc.php and make sure that they correspond to the information given by the administrator of the MySQL server.

MySQL said:

#1040 - Too many connections

What exactly is this error and how do I fix it. I am a noobie with My Sql

is this a problem with my hosting companys server or is this an issue I can fix?

My hosting support said my database is corrupt (figured that much) but I can't restore untill I can overcome this error..

Several /tmp/mysql.sock Connections
I did a netstat -an and I saw around 80 lines like this:

c41cd9d8 stream 0 0 0 c41cd230 0 0 /tmp/mysql.sock

Is the server holding too many connections and then cant handle anymore?

What can I do to fix this?

I am running Mysql 3.23.49 with persistant connections off.

Netstat And 500 MySQL Connections
I was performing some benchmarking on my app and discovered that it opens 400-500 MySQL connections show by the netstat command:

tcp 0 0 enssbos:36185 enssbos:mysql TIME_WAIT
tcp 0 0 enssbos:36184 enssbos:mysql TIME_WAIT
tcp 0 0 enssbos:36191 enssbos:mysql TIME_WAIT
tcp 0 0 enssbos:36190 enssbos:mysql TIME_WAIT
tcp 0 0 enssbos:36189 enssbos:mysql TIME_WAIT
tcp 0 0 enssbos:36188 enssbos:mysql TIME_WAIT
tcp 0 0 enssbos:36179 enssbos:mysql TIME_WAIT
tcp 0 0 enssbos:36177 enssbos:mysql TIME_WAIT
tcp 0 0 enssbos:36176 enssbos:mysql TIME_WAIT
.
Does this look right? Why are there so many tcp network connections for one script? I do use ajax with multiple updates, but I feel as if I am going to run into problems here.

Replication Error On RedHat AS 4 ( 5.0.33)
I download the newer MySQL version 5.0.33. And i compile it for multi-threads support on my 64 bit Redhat AS 4 running on DELL 2950. Everything is fine while installation time.

But error occues when another slave MySQL contact this new MySQL version master. After trying, I found out some kind of error "ONLY" happen on 64 bit RedHat AS4 and running with mult-threads MySQL.

I wound not wanna downgrade my 64 RH4 AS to 32. Although "Non-Multi-thread" MySQL can well run on my 64 bit RH4 AS, multi-threads MySQL still my prefer if it can work out.

Closing Persistent Connections In Mysql
it might be a stupid question, but I just want to know how can we close persistent connection in mysql (using php).

what are the advantages and disadvantages for using persistent connection?

Tracking MySQL Outgoing Connections
I currently have this serious issue where a bunch of mysql connections are being sent from one of my servers to another. I think its a virus or some sort of hole in my scripting but my main server keeps on sending fake logins to my database server.

I do not know how this is happening, but IS THERE A WAY for the mysql client (not the database server) to track all of the outgoing connections that are being made?

MySQL Max Connections Remote And Local
My website runs on two servers. One is mean't for PHP and the other is the database MySQL. Whenever a request is made, the PHP attempts to connect to the MySQL via a remove host variable in the mysql_pconnect() function. This works fine, however when it comes down to having lots of connections in the my.cnf file, which one do I edit?

max_connections = 1000

Now do I set this in the MySQL only, or do I set it in the PHP server as well?

Remote MySQL Connections, Still Not Working
I've read, and done all the tutorials, forum posts, and comments I could find regarding setting up a mysql server access for remote connections, but I still seem to have problems. I have a LAMP server running behind a closed router connection. A dynamic DNS is masking the connection, and I have the appropriate ports open for HTTP, SSH, VNC, FTP, and I thought MySQL (3306). But for some reason I still cannot get MySQL to connect from a foreign host.

The I have port forwarding (3306) to the correct system behind the router, and I can access the server just fine via http/ftp. The MySQL server is happily running PHP MyAdmin with the localhost connection too. I've set a (actually a couple now) user to have the ip access of "%", and granted all permissions to that user, flushed the permissions, even restarted the server. I still can't get the remote connection to work.

Mysql Too Many Connections Performance Issues
I have a website running on a linux/apache/mysql/php
server. I receive about 8,000-10,000 visitors a day with about 200,000
to 300,000 page views. The server is a RedHat Linux server running PHP
5.x, MySQL 5.x, Apache 2.x

We have been suffering from a number of performance issues. Our
hosting company has set our max connections to 100, and we are using
persistent connections in PHP. At times the mysqld process takes 100%
of the CPU. We have also been suffering from
mysql_pconnect(): Too many connections errors. What can I do to fix
these issues?

When I run a top on the server I see this ...

Remote ODBC Connections To MYSQL
I have a requirement to do some standard table work with existing online survey software (PHP based- using MYSQL). I would like to test the ability to do this work from desktop clients such as access or open office.
I have set up an ODBC connection on my machine with appropriate passwords etc. When I run the test in the WinXP ODBC diaglog, it is says that connection is succesfull.

However, when I try to use the same DSN in ACCESS or the database component of Open Office, it is that it is unable to make the connection. For example in ACCESS, trying to link tables, the message comes that the ODBC call fails.]

In OPEN OFFICE when I do the test connection, I get "ACCESS DENIED" for user... which is the user account and password that I use in the web based projects.

External MySQL Connections Error
I'm trying to connect from my computer to my server. I add my computer to the allowed access hosts. And I'm able to logon correctly. But when I try to select the database I get this error: Access denied for user 'USER'@'%' to database 'DATABASE'

Any ideas?

How Can I Configure My MySQL Server To Allow OUTSIDE Connections?
how can i configure my MySQL server to allow OUTSIDE connections?

MySQL 4.0 Refusing Local Connections
I am hardly an expert on MySQL. I have limited knowlege on how MySQL 4.0 works.

I have used MySQL 4.0 nearly half a dozen times, using these steps, and everything working flawlessly.

Download MySQL 4.0 without installer, Extract it to c:mysql. go to c:mysqlin, run winmysqladmin.exe, it will prompt for a username and pass. I type in a fresh combonation. It will start up. I will install the service, and then add the service using the systray icon that appears from winmysqladmin.exe.

Now i am capable of logging in with root, set permissions, build databases, etc... etc...

For some reason, I cannot figure out why. It is now refusing all local connections.

The server is running windows 2000 advanced server. When i install it i do it with the remote desktop connection. simply because the server itself is 1300 miles away.

Installation Problems On RedHat EL4 On Ia64
I'm running RedHat EL4 on an ia64 system. I've been using
PostgreSQL for a while but I now have an app that I think
requires MySQL so I wanted to try it out.

I tried installing MySQL-server-standard-5.0.18-0.rhel4.ia64.rpm
and I get an error that it conflicts with mysql-4.1.7-5.RHEL4.1,
so apparently I've already got MySQL 4.1.7 on the system.

I want use PHP with MySQL, which means I have to configure PHP and
tell it where the MySQL headers are. But I don't seem to have
headers, at least not that I can find.

I tried uninstalling MySQL 4.1.7 first but it says that dovecot and
perl depend on it. I tried installing the "headers" rpm for 4.1
but the only one I found was 4.1.18 and rpm says it conflicts with
mysql-4.1.7-5.RHEL4.1.

So, any suggestions? I don't think I'm currently using MySQL for
anything, but I don't want to break perl. I'd like to get 5.0
running. I just don't know enough about Linux and RPMs to be
confident that I can uninstall 4.1 and install 5.0 without screwing
something up.
