Prevent Multiple User Registrations
What's the best way to prevent someone from registering multiple accounts on my website? Should I create a column called "IP Address" in the members table and make it UNIQUE? Are there any complications with this?

MySQL Multiple User
I am currently working on this simple project. There will be about 10 users for this intranet website. Here is a brief desc. on this project. This Company makes this product that requires an assembly of many components. Now whenever someone puts an order for this product, the required items sometime is not available. So I want to create a MySQL database where users can enter this order no. + required components. What happens if two user try to alter that order at the same time? E.g Order No.1 requires ItemA,ItemB,ItemC. And if someone is altering that Order no.1 and someone else accidently try to alter that Order no.1 at the same time. Will it corrupt the data? What happens next?

Prevent Writes
How can I prevent writes to a mysql database but at the same time allow reads? This is in the case where I have a master/slave. The master got hosed so I promoted slave. Now I have the master back up and want to swap it back. So I need to stop writes to the slave, take a mysqldump, put it on the master and then start calling the master for writes.
Prevent MySQL Locking Up
I was doing some major work using MySQL this weekend, and I realized that MySQL is quite fragile. I mean, it can lock up so easily, and it's not funny. How can you prevent MySQL from locking up? What things can we really do so that MySQL doesn't lock up the entire server so easily?
Prevent ON UPDATE CURRENT_TIMESTAMP
Does anybody know if there is a way to prevent an ON UPDATE CURRENT_TIMESTAMP from occuring if I don't want it to? Only way I can see to do it is by altering the column properties to just a TIMESTAMP field, do the update, then alter the column back.
How To Prevent Stop Words In A MATCH - AGAINST?
I have a simple search engine for my website, and the MATCH-AGAINST works well when search english words (contained in the `name` and `desc` columns), but when try to search a item-code contained in the `sku` column it seems like mysql handle that code (such as "hp-504") as a stop word and returns zero rows...
Prevent Users Creating Their Own Databases
I've installed 4.0.22 and phpMyAdmin 2.6.0-pl2 and followed the instructions, removed the "guest" accounts. Granted users ALL privs on their own db only, which I created. Globally users just have the USAGE priv, no create priv but users can still create their own databases which I need to prevent. What am I missing ?
Prevent One Field Form Overlaping Another
I have the following table: lesson { id int, lesson_start int, lesson_end int, PRIMARY KEY(id) } No lesson can overlap another. So I can't have rows like: id | lesson_start | lesson_end 1 | 12:00 | 14:00 2 | 13:00 | 15:00 Is there any way to deal with it from the MySQL level?
Prevent MySQL From Starting At Startup
I'm starting to play around with MySQL. How can I prevent it from starting up whenever my computer starts? It slows down the startup some, and I'm not always wanting to use it. besides, I can start it myself if I need it.I've had a look on Google for theis, and found quite a few results, but they were fo Linux or Unix. I'm ruinning Windows XP.
How To Prevent MySQL Queries From Taking Too Long
I have a very busy database with some tables having hundreds of thousands of records. I am running MySQL 5.0.16 on Windows. Some of the queries running on my database are not fined-tuned enough, and need improvement. However, the system is live in production and I am looking for a way to prevent MYSQL from committing Harakiri, i.e. from running very slow queries forever, taking the cpu to 50% and beyond for hours. My scripting language is PHP. I found that after a while the end user receives a timeout on the browser, but MySQL continues trying to run the query, sometimes for hours. My question is, is there a way to specify a timeout for MySQL so that it will abort any queries that it is running that have not returned a result by then. The end user is no longer around anyway, so I am looking for a way to protect the database resources (and in parallel I will start investigating how to optimize the slow queries).
How To Prevent INSERT On Duplicate Rows With 30 Fields
I have a MySQL table with about 30 fields. I am inserting new data, and want to be sure that there are no duplicate rows. A duplicate row would be one with ALL the 30 fields (except the auto-increment index) exactly the same. How do I do that efficiently?
Prevent Copying From Mysql Data Tables ?
Recently we had to move some of our databases to the clients site onto their linux server. Can someone hint on how to prevent "the clients" from snatching our data and db schema? The drawback: they do own the machine - hence they do have a root password, therefore even if I change the unix permissions on the mysql directories - they are still open to the "root".
How Do I Prevent "too Many Keys Specified" ?
I keep getting the "too many keys specified" error. I am the admin of mysql and the database that i am trying to run a query in. Which file do i have to edit to prevent this, or is there another query that i must run.
Root User Denied Access To Fetch User List.
I can still log onto MySQL administrator or the command line program but I somehow appear to have lost all priveliges to alter or view the user list from this account. Even under the command line interface I can login but it tells me access is denied when I try to alter "root" permissions on a database. I cannot seem to log onto any of the other accounts created but obviously if I could get into the user admin I could solve this.
Retrive Category Names Where Categoryid Is Different From User To User

Copy User Privileges To A Newly Created User.
I have just created a user with specific permissions to certain tables in different databases. Now I have to create serveral more users with the same permission. Is there a command in MySQL that allows me to create the new user by copying the privileges from a template user?
Deleted Root User From 'user' Database!
I so stupidly deleted the root user from my mysql > user database. Now I can't login to mysql. I uninstalled the rpm and reinstalled it but it still won't let me setup a new root user. How can I delete the mysql data files so that I start again, fresh? Where are these files located? I can't find them anywhere after removing the RPM but they are obviously there because upon reinstalling the RPM I'm still in the same position--I try to do mysqladmin -u root password 'password' but it says "Access denied for user root@localhost"
Deleted Root User From Mysql.user !!!
While trying to grant access to root user, i deleted all entries for root from mysql.user. I've tried to use root% (anonimous built-in administrator user) but to no good). Is there another admin user i could use to run mysql monitor and insert root records to mysql.user? I've read Could I use a copy of the mysql.user table? I'm using version 5.0.16-standard on Linux Fedora Core 3. Before ruinin the root user, i made a backup of a databasefrom the same server (not mysql database); i was wondering if that backup contains the mysql.user information somehow?

Selecting User,password From User
When I do: select User,Password from user in MySQL, I get encrypted password. How can I see the real value? And, what is the proper (secure) way to access MySQL database from PHP or other scripting languages?
Select Statement With Multiple Counts/multiple Joins Trouble
SQL SELECT g.group_id, g.name, g.description, g.icon, g.user_id, g.date, u.username, count(c.comment_id) as comment_count, count(v.video_id) as video_count, count(m.user_id) as user_count FROM duo_groups as g LEFT JOIN duo_group_members as m on m.group_id=g.group_id LEFT JOIN duo_users as u on u.user_id=m.user_id LEFT JOIN duo_videos as v ON g.group_id=v.group_id LEFT JOIN duo_video_comments as c on v.video_id=c.video_id GROUP BY g.group_id, g.name, g.description, g.icon, g.user_id, g.date, u.username Will return My current problem with the above statement is with the counts. The count is accurate when only one of the counts is returned. However when more than 1 of the counts is returned the other counts (if they are not 0) will return the same number. For example look at the screenshot above. The first row, all three counts are the same but they are not accurate. They alll point to 8 because there are 8 comments, but there aren't 8 videos or 8 users. Same with the second row. There aren't 2 users only 2 videos.
Select / Insert Multiple Rows As A Single Row Of Multiple Columns
I have a nice database set up that contains information about orders and the items on those orders. If an order has 10 items on it, I can select the item data which returns 10 rows of data (let's say 5 colums each). Beautiful! Now I find myself needing to satisfy a program that requires all of the data on a single row. I can do this in a higher level language, but if I could accomplish it all in mysql it would be better. I don't need to sum or do any calculations. I just want to select those 5 columns of data about those 10 rows worth of items as a single row with 50 columns. For example, I'd want this: 1-1,1-2,1-3,1-4,1-5 2-1,2-2,2-3,2-4,2-5 To become: 1-1,1-2,1-3,1-4,1-5,2-1,2-2,2-3,2-4,2-5 The first complication is that the number of items on an order is variable, but is always at least 1 and can not exceed 20. The closest I've been able to get is to do something like: SELECT GROUP_CONCAT(item_number,",",qty,","",description,"",",price,",",location_number SEPARATOR ",") FROM items WHERE order_number=12345 This will give me a single text string containing the value content of the INSERT query (which will need to be manipuated outside of the SQL query to pad it with NULL values for the unused items' columns etc).
Connect/ Join Query Multiple Dbs Multiple Servers
Struggling to connect simultaneously to remotehost@my_ip_address AND localhost@my_field_db FROM my_field_tablet_pc to affect a custom sycnchronization that SQLyog will not allow. Both remotehost and localhost are built on WAMP stacks.
User Problems... Only Root User "works".
i have been trying to figure this strange problem out for a week or so. here it is. i have a set of users with various permissions for different reasons. about 2 weeks ago, my hardware suffered a fairly nasty failure. i recovered everything. things seemed to work out. i didnt think to check my phpBB forums or my blog (or other mysql based stuff). never had any problems with the DB... so, maybe i am missing something simple here. i hope so. what my users can do: they can log in via command line, a gui i use on mac os x and it does not matter if it is local, or remote. they work just fine. what all but one users cannot do: none of my users can run phpbb or the blog stuff.. except for the root user. any other user returns the error message written in the code of which ever script i try to access telling me that "could not connect to DB" etc.. root works fine. now, i thought maybe it was a problem with the forums and other stuff. but i cant be. same thing happens with all things... even a game server i occasionally run that keeps account info in a DB. all these users are set up properly and have worked just fine in the past. nothing new has been installed, no conf changes..im at a loss...
MYSQL User Information: Error While Storing The User Information
I have a proplem creating a new user and/or adding additional information for root user in MySQL Administrator 1.0.19. When I do I get this message: error while storing the user information. Never the less, when I close the Admin program and open it again, the changes I tryed to make are saved, (althoug the program asked me if I wanted to save changes and I said no) Is this a know bug, should I be alarmed, any solutions ? I´m running MySQL 4.3.11 Admin 1.0.19 Query 1.1.5 Apache2 php5
Joins With Multiple Tables And Multiple Rows
I'm making a good ol' forum, and i have three tables, users, threads and posts. when i query my threads table with a join, i need to access the users table twice to get the username of the first poster and last poster. But how? I can only figure out how to get one or the other. Is my design bad? eg SELECT TopicID, FirstPostID, LastPostID, Replies, Views, Topic, username FROM DiscussionThreads, users WHERE DiscussionThreads.FirstPostID=users.ID ORDER BY FirstPostDT DESC LIMIT 10 .
Changing User From One User To Another

Multiple Languages, Multiple Products
I posted before and was helped immensely. I am designing a multilingual-capable site where each product may (or may not!) have a description in the user's chosen language. In this case, I want to get the default language description. Say my product descriptions table has fields prod_id, language, and description. When I have a single product and I want its description, I can retrieve it as follows:
Multiple Batabases Vs. Multiple Tables
I am about migrate from an old program database to MySql (Running under RH LINUX)and I'm wondering which is the best option to do : I currently have one file for each of my modules, (I'm using filepro plus) , so like CUSTOMER, WARRANTY, ZIPCODES, INV, etc... like 2,000 files each with their own fields. 1) Should I create multiple databases on MySQL 2) Should I create a single database on MySql and with multiple tables ? Which one of these options is the best and more safer ?
Multiple Databases Or Multiple Tables
I have an application that is supposed to make multiple connections [around 10 connections per second] to a mysql database. The connections are done by mutlitple users at potentially the same time. I have to decide if I should use : 1)one database with one table for all users. 2)one database for each user. 3)one database with one table for each user. I would really appreciate if you can tell me what choice is best and why.
User And Use DB
Using PHP and MySQL: I know I can use a connection string such as : $mysqli = mysqli_connect("SQLSvr01","User", "Pass", "dB", Port); Will I have a confined Query based on this connection or if my web site makes a query for a seperate dB at the same time from another user will they conflict. or let me refrase Is this connection isolated from all other requests, regardless of how many times the request is made, or is it dependant on the user or sever or database?
My SQL User
I juz install mysql4 with a window xp pro, I cannot make database with "CREATE DATABASE;"
New User
I tried to connect remotely through the mysql server through MySQL Query Browser using the root user is perfectly fine. But I couldn't connect if i used my own created user. May i know what had happened??
Trying To Add New User
New to Mysql and I am trying to add a new user. I am using the MySQL Control Center to do this. Any time I try to add the new user to any database, I get the following error: [admin] ERROR 1045: Access denied for user: '@localhost' (Using password: NO)
New User
I have a table in mysql where I have several columns and user name is the primary key. I want to create a new user for a table and copy the attributes of one of the existing user to the new user. Instead of copying one by one, is there a command in MYSQL, where I can copy all the attributes of one user to the new user
User: Any
I've noticed a user called Any in the MySQL privileges table. This user has 'useage' priv on host 'localhost' and 'build' ... should I delete this? Does it pose a security risk? Also, what's the host 'build' ?
User Name
I'm trying to connect to mySQL through Dreamweaver, and got as far as the mySQL Connection box, where I type in my connection name, server, user name, and password, then search for a database. I'm using a tutorial for an online class, but it's not very clear about the user name. How do I get one/do I already have one? Could it be one I set up with phpMyAdmin? Please keep in mind that I am as noob as they come, so I may need the techono-speak dumbed down a bit
User NOT In Group
I have two tables connected in a classical n:n faishon. Simplified example: Table USERS ID | login --------- 1 | User A 2 | User B 3 | User C 4 | User D 5 | User E 6 | User F 7 | User G Table GROUPS_LISTS user_id | group_id 1 | 2 2 | 1 2 | 4 2 | 5 4 | 4 5 | 3 6 | 4 Table GROUPS ID | name 1 | Group A 2 | Group B 3 | Group C 4 | Group D 5 | Group E It is easy to get a list of all users which belong to a specific group - just join these tables and add one condition into the mix. But I have a hard time finding a way how to get a list of user which are NOT in that group. For example fi want to find all user, who are not in the Group D (result should be users A and E). PS: I think it can be accomplished through use of subqueries, but I would like something simplier...not so CPU demanding.
Storing User CSS
I'm working on a social networking site with a friend and am curious about something: how much bandwidth do mysql queries typically consume? I'd like to make the CSS of user profiles open for editting, but that would mean a lot of css settings would have to be stored and constantly queried. Does this take up a lot of bandwidth and are there any ways to open up the CSS without consuming too much?
Getting Max User Error
I'm getting new error on my mysql app: Warning: mysql_connect(): User my has already more than 'max_user_connections' active connections in /home/my/public_html/config.php on line 7 User my has already more than 'max_user_connections' active connections Any ideas how to fix this error?
User Doesn't Have Permissions?
I install a mysql backup utility to backup my database if things go wrong. I went to test it to make sure it would work as it emails me the sql file, I deleted my database (using phpmyadmin) and tried to import the sql file which shoots me an error giving me an error that I didn't have permission to create a database. How do I give myself permission to create a database?
Create User In 5.1
i have created a user in phpmyadmin and given the account a password but no matter what I seem to try the user cannot connect with that password (they get in without specifying a password. This is a fresh installation of fedora core 5 in case it matters.
Add A User To A Database
I would like to add a user to a database. A very simple thing you would think, but I can't get it to work. This is what I have: GRANT ALL ON database_name.* TO 'user'@'localhost' IDENTIFIED BY 'my password' flush Privileges; But for some reason this doesn't work. The user already exists, so could that be the reason? I just want to give it permissions to this new database i've created now.
User Privileges
How do I need to set Privileges so that a user can create and modify their own databases? I am running MySQL 3.23.53 with phpMyAdmin 2.5.4. I have multiple DBs and users. I setup up a new user and database with no problem. The user can only see the new database as it should be. I would like to allow the user to be able to create their own databases. Right now in phpmyadmin, when they create a new database, they cannot create tables in it, and they can not see the database they just created in their list of databases. Although I can see the database they created with my admin user. When the user First creates a database and tries to create a table they get "select command denied to user". I gave the user global select, but as soon as I do they can see all the databases. I was guessing this is just a Privilege issue, but I am still learning about SQL privileges.
