Root Login Does Not Work Correctly Without -h Option
For example, I would expect to be able to sign in by using.
mysql -u root -p
The above gives me accessed denied.
Now, I need to do.
mysql -h <hostname> -u root -p
It seems like a simple problem that I have not been able to solve by searching here and google.

Mysqldump Or Import Does Not Work Correctly
@first, here are my stats: - win2k3 / MySQL 5.0.37 - AIX 5.2 / MySQL 5.0.26 I am not a real newbie but not a crack, too ... Well, I try to replicate my db from a win2k3 server to a AIX 3.2 Server, but it doesn#t work correctly ... I am using cacti tool for displaying my data as graphs ... and now I want to copy my data regulary from one machine to the other ... this is the way I do this: mysqldump cacti --user=root -p > cacti.dump **copy via ftp** mysql --user=root -p cacti < cacti.dump There are no error messages displayed, but I do only have some "old" data from months ago in my cacti db, but the original db is filled up to date ... What might be the problem ? Overwriting all files in $MYSQL_HOME$/data/cacti didn't work, too ... Is this a problem with the application perhaps, that data is different between windows and AIX ?
Root Login Only
I have tried to create additional users with GRANT and INSERT INTO (FLUSH PRIVILEGES) but every time I start the mysql client only with the root password can I successfully login. How do I get it so I have to enter a specific user name then be prompted for password?
Login As Root
Im using a WAMP setup of winXP pro, apache 1.3.31, mySql 4.1.21community-nt, PHP 5.1.6 and phpMyadmin 2.9.0.2 during the install of mysql i set a root password and after setup i created a new user using a 'grant all' statement in the client console. what i want to do is completely remove the root account and use the new superuser account i created. But - i cannot login with the new account; only as root with the root password Any suggestions how i can stop mySql from forcing me to use the root account.
Forgotten Root Login.
I need help resetting my root login. I've lost my password. I've uninstalled MySQL and reinstalled it hoping that it would work and no luck. How do I go about doing this? I'm operating on OSX.
Root Login Problems
I'm not able to login to mysql via root... strange things are happening. I type in mysql -u root and I get ERROR 1045: Access denied for user: 'root@localhost' (Using password: NO) So, follownig the tutorials on the mySQL website, I kill the process with kill `cat /var/lib/mysql/linux.pid` which stops the process just fine. Then I start it back up like so: mysqld_safe --skip-grant-tables & And it starts up okay, the pid appears again in the subdir. Then I can log in okay via mysql -u root However, then I try to reset the password via: UPDATE mysql.user SET Password=PASSWORD('pwordhere') WHERE User = 'root'; okay fine that takes okay. I do a query with select, seems fine, do an exit to get back to my prompt. type in mysql -u root... and viola, same error appears, ERROR 1045: Access denied for user: 'root@localhost' (Using password: NO)
Root Login Can't See All Databases
When I login as -u root, only test database can be seen, not others which were seen the last time I logged in as root. All databases are there in the data folder and no passwords were changed; what could be causing this?

Resetting Root Password Doesn't Work...
I was attempting to change my root password using the following 3 means from the manual (I'd temporarily forgotten it), but was unable to. Would really appreciate it if someone could point me to why the following problems... (I recalled the password later, but would still be interested to know what's wrong below). If I use skip-grant-tables while starting up the server, I am not able to see any tables in the mysql database (though they are there and I can see them if I bring the server up normally and use the root password which I actually know). Code:
Root Password Change Does Not Work
I am facing a funny situation. All of a sudden my root password to the mysql server version 3.23.49 stopped working. I reset the password and tried logging in again, but what ever I do, I am unable to login as root. If I skip grant tables, I am able to, but not otherwise.
I Changed Root Password But I Can Not Login With Changed Password
I changed the password of root with update user set password=password('newpassword') Then I exited. But when I want to login again , it cannot authenticate the root I should tell you that a hacker had changed my root password before. Because it was not encrypted before.
Not Summing Correctly
This query will is not showing sums of the individual line items. The tabl shows stats for each player each day, yet even though the intent of the query is to show a sum of each player it is not. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? select distinct `ssfhl4_ssfhl`.`tblplayers`.`Player` AS `Player`,`ssfhl4_ssfhl`.`tblcummstats`.`Position` AS `Position`,`ssfhl4_ssfhl`.`tblcummstats`.`NHLTeam` AS `NHLTeam`,`ssfhl4_ssfhl`.`tblcummstats`.`Status` AS `Status`,`ssfhl4_ssfhl`.`tblplayers`.`Salary` AS `Salary`,`ssfhl4_ssfhl`.`tblcummstats`.`WeekNo` AS `WeekNo`,`ssfhl4_ssfhl`.`tblcummstats`.`FanTeam` AS `FanTeam`,`ssfhl4_ssfhl`.`tblcummstats`.`DateStamp` AS `DateStamp`,`ssfhl4_ssfhl`.`tblcummstats`.`PlayerID` AS `PlayerID`,`ssfhl4_ssfhl.........
Counting Correctly!
I want to ORDER BY on a column. Straightforward until I discovered that MySQL doesn't count the same way I do. My values are TA1 TA2 TA3 TA4 TA5 TA6 TA7 TA8 TA9 TA10 TA11 TA12 TA13 TA14 When I ORDER BY, MySQL thinks TA10 is less than TA2, Resulting in TA1 TA10 TA11 TA12 TA13 TA14 TA2 TA3 TA4 TA5 TA6 TA7 TA8 TA9 I know a simple solution would be to rename my codes TA01, TA02 etc, but I can't as the values are an external code that we have to use. Is there a way I can get MySQL to ORDER BY correctly on these values?
Results Not Sorting Correctly
I have a query where there is an hours field and a minutes field, both int fields. These two fields have the following values Hours, Minutes 18, 13 21, 9 21, 13 21, 14 SELECT * FROM video ORDER BY hours ASC, minutes ASC The above order that I gave the values in is the order they pull back in from that query.
Definedsize Not Reporting Correctly?
I'm connecting to a MySQL DB (4.0.26-nt) using ODBC in ASP and trying to use AddNew to add records to some tables. When assigning longer string values to a varchar field, I get the dreaded "Multiple-step operation generated errors. Check each status value." error. I know that this is related to trying to stuff too much data into a field, but... Here's the funny thing -- when I check a field's defined size using: rs(myFieldName).definedsize, it reports a number smaller than when I view the design of the table within MyPHPAdmin. That is, the field is a varchar(70), but definedsize gets reported as 50. Therefore my string of 60 characters won't fit and I get the error. Increasing the field's size doesn't change the reported definedsize... unless I drop the table and re-create. This is all on my ISP's server, so don't know if it's something they can deal with or not?
How To Load A Dump File Correctly?
i made a dump file of my database, but now i'm not able to laod it. for testing i dropt a table and changed some data. but now, after i load the dumpfile with mysqldump -u root ifixdb < meindump.sql the database didn't change. there is still the table deleted and the prepared datas are still changed. how do i load the dumpfile corretly? How To Show Chinese Character Correctly?
i'm using Mysql5.0 now, it's char_set is latin_1 and my os is WinXP Chinese Edition. In my tables, chinese characters can be shown correctly from mysql command line, but chaos when i use mysql GUI tools and phpMyAdmin. what's wrong? what should i do ?
MySQL Dump Not Working Correctly
I have a table in MySQL. nightly, the table is dumped (structure and data) and imported into a different database. it has been working fine like that for 3+ yrs. I recently added a new column. i populated it w/ values. the rest of the dump goes correctly, but no matter what, it will not dump this column's values. in the dump it will just show empty braces. The columns structure is set to DEFAULT NULL VARCHAR(50). I know im probably missing something, im not a database expert by any stretch.
Order By Not Working Correctly, Query Problem?
I am using the following query to get a list of anime names and related info from my mysql db. As anime are sometimes known by several names (the actual japanese kantakana/kanji, the romanji translation and the english word). So the info_anime table has all the info about the anime and the info_animename just has the relevent animeid and the name. The query below is ment to check all the names in info_animename and join them to info_anime. SQL SELECT n.*, a.* FROM info_animename AS n, info_anime AS a WHERE a.animeid = n.animeid ORDER BY ".$_GET[orderby]." ".$_GET[order]." Now all the names are displayed properly with the various info but if you look here: Live Anime - Anime List You will see that the names are not in alphabetical order, for the most part they are just anime with several names are not working correctly if you look at the bottom of the page you will see: Yakusoku no Basho Kumo no Mukou followed by Beyond The Clouds, The Promised Place Which are the same anime under different names.
Sort Not Handling Negative Numbers Correctly
In the table in my database I have a column of numbers ranging from -3.3 to 7.1. When I sort the column using (SELECT * FROM mytable ORDER BY mytable;) the column gets sorted as follows: -1.9, -3.3, 1.7, 2.2, 7.1 I streamlined the list as there are actually over 500 numbers between -3.3 and 7.1. The problem I am having is that when I SORT mysql is recognizing -1.9 as a smaller number than -3.3. When I try to find the minimum number in the column using (SELECT MIN(mycolumn) FROM mytable;) mysql also displays -1.9 as the minimum number. Is this a known problem with mysql or am I doing something wrong?
Form Contents Not Displaying Correctly In Database.
I have a webform that is submitting data that 1st gets sent to the database (using $_POST varibles) and then i build an email message and use the same $_POST varibles to create the body. The problem im having is that when some one copies, from another form, numbers that are colored and pastes it into my form it gets submitted to the database as a different number than what was pasted. To futher confuse you, the email message shows the correct number but the database does not.
OPTION Value
Here's the connection string I use commonly with my VFP9 apps connecting to a MySQL5 backend: DRIVER={MySQL ODBC 3.51 Driver};SERVER=localhost;UID=mike;PWD=foxrocks;DATABASE=mydb;option=131609 I was wondering what other values for the OPTION parameter folks use? Sometimes, I get some flakiness, so I was searching for a consensus on "best option value to use."

Can't Set The Table Option
I've use the command CREATE TABLE as follow: CREATE TABLE test(myid varchar(20)) DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1 and CREATE TABLE test(myid varchar(20)) DEFAULT CHARACTER SET latin1 I've got an error message with the 2 commands above saying that I've used the wrong syntax near the "DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1" clause. I've read the MySQL Document and figured out those commands have the right syntax, not wrong. Could anyone please tell me how to create a table with DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1. ( I have use MySQl ver 4.0 ).
Subselect In 4.0.12-max With -- New Option
I was reading the manual and it said that the subselect is only available in 4.1 or using the 4.0.12 with the mysqld =96new command line to start it. But it doesn=92t working!! So I downloaded the 4.1 alpha version with = the same problem. The error is: ERROR 1064: You have an error in your SQL syntax. Unknown Option -- Log-bin

--force Option
I'm using a batch file to insert data into my database. I read in the manual that using the --force option makes mysql to continue processing the batch file, although there was an error like "table does not exist" or something like that. However I noticed that mysql still quits if it tries to insert data in a table that not exists. I'm using mysql 5.0.19 under a windows xp system the command i'm executing is as follows: mysql -u root --force databasename < "path/to/batch.sql"
Local-infile Option
I´m using mysql 3.23.58 and I want to enable the local-infile option. The manual on dev.mysql.com says the following to that: ..... If you use LOAD DATA LOCAL in Perl scripts or other programs that read the [client] group from option files, you can add the local-infile=1 option to that group. However, to keep this from causing problems for programs that do not understand local-infile, specify it using the loose- prefix: [client] loose-local-infile=1 ...... But when I do that the I can restart the mysql-Server but starting of mysqladmin says the following: Unrecognized option local-infile The same message with loose-local-infile=1. When I start the server with --local-infile=1 and then starting the mysql-Client with --local-infile=1 on the shell everything is OK and I can use the LOAD DATA LOCAL Syntax. What is wrong? Why it is an unregognized command? I need the LOAD DATA LOCAL because I want to use mysql with Perl.

Error =SET OPTION SQL_BIG_SELECTS=1
I add a few more test records to my db.... the result the following error message... Vbscript Runtime error 'ASP 0185 : 3219' General error: The SELECT would examine too many records and probably take a very long time. Check your WHERE and use SET OPTION SQL_BIG_SELECTS=1 if the SELECT is ok Well to the best of my knowledge my WHERE could not be more simple and all the tables concerned don't have that many records. I've scanned the net but cannot find an obvious answer. Any clues... if I need to use "SET OPTION... how do I do this within ASP. Code:

Joining User Option Lists
I have a niggly problem that I can't quite work out which I'm sure has a simple answer (have to be missing something). I have a table of 7 categories, each with a unique ID and name. A seperate table is a category/user mapping table which maps users to a category. For example, if a user is a a member of 4/7 categories, they have 4 rows in the mapping table, each one with their userID/catID in it. What I'm attempting to do is select a list of ALL categories and join (where applicable) the category map so I can present all options regardless of whether the user is a member of a particular category or not (but I do need to know if they are or not). PHP SELECT * FROM categories LEFT JOIN category_map ON categories.id = category_map.c_id WHERE category_map.u_id=10 I had some success with adding OR category_map.u_id IS NULL but returns odd results when there are 0 rows present for a user in the category_map table.
Printing A Result After An Option Has Been Submitted
My goal is this.- To print another field value 'scriptcode', of the same row after an option 'scriptnaam' is submitted. The first part isn't the problem. I do get all the data 'scriptnaam' in a select field. But to distillate, a result 'scriptcode' out of it ??? If someone could help me a bit further with that, that would be great. I like to mention, that I've just started with PHP/MYSQL, so my knowledge about it is limited. Code:

MySQL Performance - Option Setting
I set OPTION=3 in my connection string as recommended by MySQL (http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0...parameters.html) for a VB application. OPTION=3 is Don't Optimised Column Width (1) and Return Matching Rows (2). I found this to be very slow on a database with just 27,000 records. It took approx. 12 seconds to read 27,000 records. When I change the OPTION to 8 (Allow Big Results), it took just 3 seconds to read 27,000 records. BUT now my application cannot update records anymore and getting random errors on transactions. I try setting OPTION=11 (all 3 options added together) and the speed went back to being slow.
Slave-load-tmpdir Option
I have just installed mysql server 5.0. However, when I was trying to start the server by invoking mysqld, it complained that a directory/file is not found. I then viewed the variable names and found that the slave-load-tmpdir variable was pointing to a non-existing path. I have tried mysqld --slave-load-tmpdir=<my new path> --standalone but whenever I restart the mysqld, the variable is still defaulted to that old path....what should I do to change the default setting for this variable?
Check Table Command - When To Use Which Checking Option
I'm trying to decide which check table option to use for a DB-health-check script for my product. This script is to be run periodically to find and repair damaged tables. My product uses only MySQL, i.e. it does not interact with another DB. I need to find the check table option that would find damaged tables with the highest possible performance. The 13.5.2.3 CHECK TABLE Syntax documentation states the following: MEDIUM Scan rows to verify that deleted links are okay. This also calculates a key checksum for the rows and verifies this with a calculated checksum for the keys. What are they referring to with the word "links"? Are they talking about links to MS Access tables? How do I know if my tables have links? Does the MEDIUM option scan rows only to check deleted links? If so, if I don' t have "deleted links", should I not use this option? By running in MEDIUM mode, will the tables be locked while "check table" is working? For the other options - CHANGED, FAST, QUICK - will "check table" lock the tables? What access do I have to the tables while check table is running?
Drop Down Menu: Option Equal To All Others In The List
I would like to create a drop down menu in a form that selects distinct arrays from a columname, inserts them into a drop down menu, but then I also want one of the options to be equal to all of the rest. I would end up with a drop down structured like this: All colors Red Blue Green Purple
Solaris 8 Daemon Fails Because Unknown Option?
I guess people did not see my post from the install thread... I am really really stuck now! Does anyone work on Solaris??? Binding Option Button Controls On Unbound Forms
I am using an MS Access 2002 as a Frontend to a MYSQL 5.0.18 database server backend. I am attempting to set up unbound forms using a dsn-less ADO connection. I have been able to bind the textbox and combobox controls to the fields within my form however I am having difficulties binding boolean field types to my option button controls. 1) Has anyone had any success in binding option button controls to MySQL boolean fields? 2) On another point, in the unbound forms do you set up your own navigation controls or are you able to utilize the standard form navigation controls provided by Access.Again it seems the option button controls do not stay synchronized to the current record. 3) Also after creating a recordset and binding it to my form and binding the controls, I close the recordset and the connection object. After making changes to a current record, if I navigate to the next record in the recordset any changes I made in the previous record are automatcially reflected in the MYSQL tables. The user is not prompted to save changes; it does it automatically.I'm new to using ADO and was surprised to see that this was possible since the connection object had been closed. How do you go about preventing the direct writing to MySQL without informing the user that they are doing so?Where is the code for the navigation buttons events? Is it possible to 'hook' into them?
Best Way To Deal With Linking Tables And Foreign Keys When InnoDB Is Not An Option.
Title covers most of it. On database insertion I suffer from a lack of transactions, which means I can enter the data into the primary database, then have the database fail with exactingly bad timing and fail when I am making my entries in other tables or the linking table. On data deletion I suffer from a lack of foreign key constraints so again the database can fail after I delete my entry from my main table, but before I enter the data for my linking tables. My biggest conern is that I end up with data in the linking tables but not in the main table. Then if I tried to re-enter that main entry with those linking table entries I would get an error due to duplication of the primary key (concacted id of the two foreign keys) in my linking table. I am considering elaborate if loops in my php to try and catch errors and delete the whole entry if the errors occur. The problem being that the errors will occur when the database is misbehaving so my odds that the delete will work might be somewhat low. Has anyone else had to work withou InnoDB much in scenarios like this?
