Starting Binary Logging
I want to start binary logging, but can't seem to get it working!
I have put:
[mysqld]
log-bin
into my.cnf which MySQL appears to be using.I can't see anything else in the manual or internet which mentions anything else I required to do - am I just missing something?I am using clean installs of Win2003 and MySQL 5.0.18. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am totally stuck until I can sort this out.

Starting In Binary Mode
I have installed mysql 5.1 onto one of our Redhat Enterprise 3 test boxes. Theres nothing particularly important on the box as far as I am aware. Anyhow I stopped the server yesterday, with the idea of starting it in Binary Mode. I am looking into how we can do the backups for the system. Since we are due to inherit some mysql databases to look after. Code:
How Do I Enable Binary Logging
I would like to enable binary logging on my database.Am using winXP The information i have talks of adding some lines to my.cnf file then restarting mysql.
How To Save Binary Data Into A Binary Field
I want to save some binary data into MYSQL. dim s as string s=chr(0)&chr(1) chr(3) & chr(6) & chr(7) conn.execute "INSERT INTO test values ('" & s & "')" The field in the table test is binary. The odbc returns an error but using the query browser the query ends good. Any idea?
Key1 Without Binary And Key2 With Binary
I have two search keyes, key1 and key2. The following is where clause. where say like '%#key1#%' and say like binary '%#key2#%' I have to use binary for key2 like the above. Now I like to make the following where clause. say like '%#key1#%#key2#%' The where clause above will retrieve all records which has #key1# and #key2# in that order. My problem is in the use of binary, i.e I have to use binary for key2. I can make it like the following for using binary. say like binary '%#key1#%#key2#%' But the code above makes not only key2 but also key1 bianry. Key1 doesn't need bianry but key2 needs bianry. How can I make the where clause key1 without binary and key2 with binary? The following would-be code doesn't work correctly, but it'll show what I want. woudl-be code say like '%#key1(non-binary)#%#key2(binary)#%'
Just Starting
I'm interested in developing an application using MYSQL. I've been out of the developer market for quite a while, but my background is mostly Oracle based technology with a lot of exposure to object, Java and XML. What tools are in favor these days for use in... 1 - Modeling an application (data, object, process, services....) as well as generating the application. 2 - End user design for web based applications 3 - Administration tools to monitor what's going on 4 - Debugging tools 5 - Documentation
Logging In
I'm having trouble logging into my sql server, I'm running version 4.0 just about anything I type in gives me this error message "Error SQL query: mysql MySQL said: #1064 - You have an error in your SQL syntax. Check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'mysql' at line 1 " Can anyone help me with this problem?
Logging
Is there a way to turn on some sort of logging? I am attempting to connect to a db through VB, just learned it and am not sure if I am getting in and not retrieving data or not even getting in yet. Can this be done through the console and then left on?
Int Field Starting With 00
I have a database and in the one table I have a field where I want to insert a numerical value starting with two zeros and then numbers after. I have tried INT and VARCHAR and both eliminate the 00 in the front and give me the rest of the number when I insert them. Why is this?
Starting Auto_increment At Zero
Can an auto_increment field be started at 0? Javascript counts from 0 and I would like to not have to subtract 1 from the numbers I get out of my table. If anybody knows how to start things at zero that would be cool.
Starting MYSQL On A Mac
I feel quite stupid I cannot seem to get MYSQL to even run on my Mac (OS X 10.4) I have installed MYSQL and then went to terminal and entered cd /usr/local/mysql then sudo ./bin/mysqld_safe then my password as prompted which is followed by Starting mysqld daemon with databases from /usr/local/mysql/data - at this point as it just seems to stop What next? I have tried entering mysql -u grifkerry -p but nothing happens! I have left it for a while but still nothing.
Starting MySQL
I need to transfer a database from one computer to another. Both computers are Macintoshes running OS X Panther. Both computers are running MySQL through localhost. The computer to which I am transferring the database has MySQL up and running perfectly fine. The computer from which I want to get the database is able to query the database through a web application using Perl but when I try to run MySQL from the Unix command line using the following text: "mysql -h localhost -u root -p" I get the following response "-sh: mysql: command not found." As far as I know, MySQL is installed correctly on this machine (I would assume it has to be in order for the web application to access the database through Perl and MySQL). If I can start and run MySQL, I know that I can dump the database using the "mysqldump" command. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I need to do to get the mysql command to execute correctly so that I can run the program?

Starting The Server
I've had my Instance starting whenever I startup my computer, which was working fine, until now. Every time I try to start it from the MySQL Administrator. I've tried to start the sertvice and It just goes right back to stopped and gived the log message, "Trying to start the server ... Server could not be started." How can I start the instance or find out what's going wrong?
Starting Problem
I run Windows XP, Apache 2.0.54 (these are working fine), and have just installed MySQL 4.1. And i want to say I have the checked the included manual for clues, to why MySQL won't start on this machine. I get this error message when trying to start the server with: C:ProgramMySQLMySQL Server 4.1in>mysqld --console InnoDB: Error: log file .ib_logfile0 is of different size 0 10485760 bytes InnoDB: than specified in the .cnf file 0 5242880 bytes! 050714 9:39:51 [ERROR] Can't init databases 050714 9:39:51 [ERROR] Aborting 050714 9:39:51 [Note] mysqld: Shutdown complete ---- Where do i find the .cnf-file that is mentioned?
Starting Mysql
I used to have an older version of Mysql (4.0) that I started by starting Winmysqladmin. Now I replaced this with the newest version: 4.1.12 and that doesn't have Winmysqladmin. After some experimentation I found out that MYSQLD.EXE seems to start mysql. I can then use phpMyAdmin. However, my own application still does not work (I can log in, but my queries give no results). A possible explanation is that I selected the UTF-8 fontset. I would like to have advice of what causes this problem and how I can solve this. I a using Windows ME.
Starting Up - Mysql_send.php
I've gotten to the point in the book where it tells me to configure mysql_send.php. It wants me to put in the host name, user name, and password. Now, when I set up MySQL, I had the host as "localhost", and set up a simple username and password. I set this up on my desktop. My questions are: 1. Which host does this refer to - my computer or the server where my website is? Which is the correct entry? 2. Same question on the username and password - what is it referring to? website or my computer? I started making tables of my data. I have a very basic idea of the fields, but when I complete a table, I get an error message when it executes the command to make the table. What is this about?
Starting Mysql
I am using window xp, I installed mysql 4.0 and it was working fine. last week, I uninstalled mysql 4.0 and install 4.1 and it's no longer starting. before, error message said, "mysql failed start, wait 30 then try again" then I messed around with it. the error message is gone right now, it doesn't start, it doesn't give me any error message and I can't even get mysql 4.0 working.
Mysql Not Starting
I had to reload mysql 4.0.17 on to a Fedora Core machine that was previously working in the same configuration. Now though I can't get the server to run with the either of the following commands: ../mysql.server start - the command line reappears with no error but no running process in the system monitor /usr/local/mysql/bin/mysqld_safe -user=mysql - this command does not return to the command prompt so when I hit the enter key I get "Starting mysqld daemon with databases from /var/lib/mysql 0404124 00:13:21 mysqld ended. It looks to me as if it attempts to start but fails with no error. What am I missing on the reinstall?
Autoincrement Starting Value
i am using PHPmyAdmin to manage the mySQL data base, i was wondering how to change the auto increment initial starting point. if i want to generate an Auto number in Alpha Numeric, is there any sort of option in database ?
Starting Mysql
This may be a very simple question and possibly could have a very simple solution to it.Since I have been using mysql for less than 2 months,I still consider myself a newbie.I still cannot execute certain commands from my dos prompt, but I can run queries easily using phpmyadmin.I have purchased MYSQL Second Edition (Paul Dubois) so I hope to put it to good use soon. The question that is of concern to me this morning is the prefered way to start mysql.I seem to think that I always have a problem because when I start my PC,mysql is already running as a service. But I am thinking that because I login to my PC as any user other than the dbase username,I have a problem afterwards. Must I always log on to my PC (Win2K) as the same user as the created user in my DBase in order for mysql to run properly?

Starting Mysql 5.0.18
I type in the password and mysql closes. When I reinstall it as an anonymous user mysql asks me to type in my password. I've reinstalled the program a few times. I tried to reset the root password. None of these things work. I also saw that I have a file called prod.err. I open up the file and I see a bunch of stuff that I don't understand. when i go to the command command prompt and change to the: c:program filesmysqlin folder and try to start mysqld --standalone i get an error. This is what im seeing: C:Program FilesMySQLin>mysqld --standalone 050719 3:59:20 [ERROR] Can't find messagefile 'c:program filesmysqlmysql server 4.1shareenglisherrmsg.sys' 050719 3:59:20 [ERROR] Aborting Now i see its trying to open errmsg.sys in the directory: program filesmysqlmysql server 4.1shareenglish but there's no "mysql server 4.1" folder because its all in the mysql folder. How can i fix this? Is there a way to let it search in the proper directory?
Auto_Increment Starting Value
For a table I'm creating, I want the auto_increment primary key to start at zero. I know that I can put auto_increment = <number> at the end of the query to make it start at that number, but it doesn't work for zero. Is there any way to make it do this? I should probably mention something I already tried that didn't work. I tried creating the table and not making the column auto_increment. I added the first row with a value of zero, then changed the column to auto_increment, but unfortunately this automatically changed the value to a 1.

Starting MySQL
I have a strange problem with mysql start. In normal procedure I do not see any problem. I have my product patch (a tar file) and when I try to untar this under /tmp directory and try to start MySQL, it is not getting started. The tar file has following files extracted to /tmp folder 1. install 2. clearevents.sh 3. ClearEvents.class 4. README.txt 5. cleareventscron.txt If I extract this tar file to some other folder, say /test, I do not see any problem in starting the SQL.Is there any conflict with the file names which I am using here? Some one please help me in clarifying this issue.
How Do I Set Query Logging
I have a situation where my database is deleting records. I would like to enable logging but this produces a huge text file. Also I am not sure how to read the results. I am using MySQL 3.23 (the IT department won't upgrade). Can anyone tell me the most efficient way to set logging for a specific database? I just need to monitor whether a process is deleting these records. Also how would I read this information? Are there any known problems like this with MySQL 3.23?
IIS Logging To Mysql?
Can you setup mysql ODBC so that IIS can log into mysql? if so is there any good article/ instructions on the setup?
Query Logging?
I cannot get my query logging to work. I put log=hostname.log in my.ini and at some point it WAS recording a log, but it since stopped. I started the service, stopped the service, did everything. I logged into my machine as admin, as the user, did it all again... cant get it to work. I am running mysql 5 as part of the XAMPP stack. I installed it on this machine as admin and can run it as a service, but I cant get the log to work. Any help would be appreciated. I really need to see what SQL is being executed.
MySQL 5 Logging
I've installed MySQL Server 5.0 on Win2K IIS as well as PHP 5.0. PHP works fine, and so does MySQL...the problem is that I can't get the two to talk to each other
Logging On For The First Time
I've downloaded the XP Windows standard version, installed it and logged on without a problem. I've also downloaded the Linux standard version, installed it(Mandriva 2000 powerpack), and attempted to log on. However, I keep getting a message telling me that it can't find a socks in /var(whatever that is).
Logging In To Monitor Thru Dos
I am playing around with logging in and running commands through batch files on a win2000 machine running mysql, I have a password on my db, I am using mysql -h localhost -u root -p to start up the monitor this works, but it asks for a password which kind of kills the automated part of what I am wanting to do, is there a way to include the password on this command? I thought about passing the password using %1, but I haven't done dos in so long that I dont even know if this feature still works, does anybody?
Logging Problem
I have a problem with mysql general log, regarding query logging. I'm running Win2K, mysql 4.1.10 with JBoss 4.0.2. When I turn on logging, the statements executed from JBoss and logged by mysql look like this: SELECT uuid from tablex AS a WHERE a.id = ?; MySQL never logs the parameters of the statements. Can somebody tell me how to turn this on or what I am missing here?
How Do I Enable Logging?
I need to enable MySQL logging. I looked in the my.ini file and did not see any logging options. Where do I turn on logging? I am using Windows.
Logging Into Server
I have a linux box with MySQL. The following fails. If I try to login locally using mysql -u USERNAME -p If I go to another computer on the network and try using the same user name and password by: mysql -h SERVER ADDRESS -u USERNAME -p This login is successful. Does anyone know why the first operation fails?
Logging With Trigger
I am designing a chatsystem with logging-functionality. And i want to handle the logging-stuff within a trigger. As a procedure the code works, so the syntax in ok. As a trigger i get no errors but nothing is logged. create trigger messages_insert before insert on messages for each row begin declare a tinyint(1) unsigned; select logging into a from users where id = 1; if a = 1 then insert into logfile set content = 'A'; end if; end
Logging In / Cookies
I've been writing some code for site I'm creating, and I got stumped this far in. I have my login code, and it works, sorta - the page that displays right after logging in says that I'm logged in, but the I guess the session is destroyed after that. I'm sort of fighting blindly here - I just started learning PHP a few months ago and don't know much about sessions and cookies yet. Here's the code that processes the login form; I originally borrowed it from an open-source browser-based RPG (which is why users are referred to as 'players'), but now only about lines 7-17 are the same. Also, it worked fine for that game, so I don't know what's wrong here. Code:
Logging Into Server
I am running Mac OS X 10.4 (PPC) I have installed MySQL server and have the use account mysql but I have no idea of the password. When the install ran it did not give me the opportunity to set a password and I can not find anywhere that states a default password.
Logging Doesn't Work
I have WinXP, and MySQL 5.0.18 running as a service. I followed the instructions for setting up general query log file (mysqld --log), and the file was created (Nebo.log), but it does not display any logs. This is all I have after executing a few queries: Nebo.log mysqld, Version: 5.0.18-log. started with: Tcp port: 3306 Unix socket: (null) Time Id Command Argument Can anyone offer any help?
Using A Database For Logging
I need to log the number of "brochure Requests" on a per Region, Per date basis. eg for say 20 Regions , have a 366 columns (one per day of the year). Obviously I can write a script to Create all the tables, but it seems kind of clumsy. Do arrays exist in Mysql? It might also be easier to organise it into 52 weeks of 7 days. How do I design the tables?
Stats Not Logging
My stats arnt being logged. Page loads with no errors.. $update = "UPDATE `log` SET hits='hits + 1' WHERE ip='$ip' AND date='$date'"; if (mysql_query($update) or die(mysql_error()) ) { } elseif($logged[username]) { mysql_query("INSERT into log (ip, hits, date, user) VALUES ('$ip', '1', '$date', '$logged[username]'" or die(mysql_error()) ); } else{ mysql_query("INSERT into log (ip, hits, date, user) VALUES ('$ip', '1', '$date', '$user'" or die(mysql_error()) ); }?
Transaction Logging
I am reading up on transaction logging, and am wondering whether MySQL's binary log is its "UNDO/REDO log"? I'm a beginner to all this, and not sure whether that's the correct interpretation of the MySQL binary log. How does MySQL's transaction logging, or any transaction logging mechanism, work? I was reading up on general transaction logging principles but it was getting far too specific to SQL Server and other DBMSs, so I figured that I could come here and someone here might point me to some MySQL-specific resources on this, or perhaps help to explain how this all works. e.g. Does the transaction log get rid of all transactions once committed, what's the difference in how UNDO and REDO logs work, are these logs stored in a more complex manner than just logging the plain text statement (I'd imagine so, because otherwise how would an undo operation work)? In fact, I find it funny that I'm asking all the questions above because I'm still not quite clear on what the purpose of transaction logs is in the first place! While it would be great if somebody could help clear up the confusion I'm having, it would also be good if you could point me to some MySQL-specific resources on this topic. I browsed through the MySQL documentation and did a web search, but either did not find any resources period, or did not find resources that "dumbed it down" enough for me.
Logging Parameters
I can't see any useful-looking log files in my current localhost MySQL setup, and I can't see a way to specify logging in the Server Instance Configuration Wizard (1.0.8) either. There are plenty of logging parameters listed in mysqld --help --verbose, but I'm not sure why I need to run that when I already have the service set up by the Wizard, which is working fine apart from logging. If I have to do it the mysqld way, how can I shut off the service, and is that a good idea anyway?
Replication Logging
Im wondering if there is some method to automatically "clean up" the binary logs left by replication even after they are used. For example, I have a number of mysql replication logs sitting on a server. There are about 25 of them, a GIG in size each. My MYSQL replication is UP TO DATE. This means everything is properly sync'd. But I dont want to just 'DELETE' everything.
Logging On And Off MySQL
How does MySQL manage connections/sessions that are not formally and properly closed? What are the possible negative consequences if many of the software/operators on the client side fail to properly close the sessions they open? Will the MySQL server be able to handle this gracefully? Or will they consume server resources until the system crashes? Will the open sessions eventually time out close automatically? Is there a timeout value that can be set on the server? Can one query the server for information about open connections?
MySQL Logging Out
I'm not sure if this is related to MySQL or just happens to be occuring with MySQL on the Linux box, but MySQL will -- at random intervals -- log out without my explicit action and be followed by this message [X]+ Stopped mysql -u <user> -p <database> (where X is a number) Now I don't have admin or root access to this server, but is there anything I can do or talk about with the administrator?
