Linux Server V/s Windows Server ( WebServer - LAMP V/s WAMP)
My client wants to use WAMP ( Windows + apache + MySQL + PHP ). But the site performance is very slow on windows. I dont know the exact reasons. I have seen some benchmark details on internet. But still they are not having concrete facts to support LAMP as a better alternative to WAMP. Allmost all the search done on google melts down to IIS vs Apache, My main concern is "Apache on LINUX" v/s "Apache on Windows" and similarly for PHP/MySQL.

Start MySQL On Server
I am having problems getting MySQl to run on my local server. I am running an Apache server on a Windows XP computer, for development purposes only. The server is working and I can run PHP scripts on it, but I am unable to run MySQL on it.I have downloaded version 5 with the installer. During the installation, I get an error message about being unable to open port 3306, although I have been told it should not be necessary to open the port when using MySQL on the localhost. I have tried starting MySQL from services in the control panel, but it immediately switches itself off again. When typing “MySQL” at the command prompt, I get the message: ERROR 2003 (HY000): Can't connect to MySQL server on 'localhost' (10061)

Uninstalled, reinstalled. Hit execute button and no longer get the nice message, just fails. In Windows event veiwer there's a mysql application error " Default storage engine (InnoDB) is not available" Me thinks a port problem but not sure how to fix.

Mysql Server Software Won't Start
Don't worry about this - I got Vertrigo working but don't ask me how. I've turned off ports and stopped services and done all sorts of things that are a mystery to me but the point is that all the components in Vertrigo are now working. I have just started using Kevin Yank's Database Driven ...... Following set up instructions has been fine. When I try to run mysql.exe the dos window pops up and then quickly disappears after a beep. This happens wherever I run it from. There is an error in it but it disappears SO quickly I can't read it. I searched this forum and as a result installed VetrigoServ. Same thing - when I try to run MySql from there - window pops up, loud beep, window disappears. I am running as a Computer Administrator on WinXP Pro. MySql is version 5. I am not at all familar with security settings and ports etc etc in WinXP Pro. I only upgraded to WinXP Pro from WinXP Home last week so that I would have the IIS capability.

How Do I Start Logging On Windows Live MySQL Server?

My production server has a my.ini file at the location c:Program FilesMySQLMySQL Server 4.1my.ini with various config stuff in it. Would it be ok for me to add the following under the [mysqld] part of the file: log=/logs/mysqld.log Thus creating a file named 'mysqld.log' in the folder 'logs'. The main things I need to log are the SQL Statements being executed and the IP Addresses/hostname of the connections. What type of log would be best for this? Also how do I make it so that the log doesn't grow ridiculously large?

The database contains 26 million rows but 19 million are in a table the is very rarely used but occasionally needs to be accessed reasonably quickly (but performance isn't an issue). Approx 5 million rows are in another table this is used daily. The next biggest table is 444,000 rows. Is there a likely reason for the sudden slow down, can i do anything about it as it is operationally critical that i fix this quickly.

Foreign Characters Suddenly Causing Issues
We recently moved the websites that store their data in this database from a box that runs PHP4 to a box that runs PHP5. The mySQL server is on a separate machine and has not been moved or altered in any way. Now, all of a sudden, when a field contains a foreign character, the content of the field including and following the first occurence is being truncated. For example, 'Seimensstrße' is being truncated to just 'Seimensstr'. The odd thing is, if you grep mysql.log on the server, and view the full query which is being executed, the characters ARE in there. We execute "SET NAMES 'utf8'" on every newly opened connection. This has been working for months, now, all of a sudden, even though the query looks correct, something has broken.
