User Passwords Lost On Reboot

Server 2003 | IIS6 | MySQL 4.1.14-nt-max | phpMyAdmin 2.6.4-pl3

Apart from root, I have only 6 databases and whenever I reboot the server, I have to reset the passwords on 4 db's (using phpMyAdmin). Checking the mysql db, user table I note that the 4 that are causing problems have an asterix *preceding the encrypted password. The passwords that do not change were set with the help of a friend using SQL statements.

User Accounts With Passwords
I am able to connect to the database using users that are not password protected. After updating privileges to use passwords and changing login info(in a php document) I recieve the following error from the php document:

Warning: mysql_query(): Access denied for user 'ODBC'@'localhost' (using password: NO) in c:inetpubwwwrootgindex.php on line 9

Warning: mysql_query(): A link to the server could not be established in c:inetpubwwwrootgindex.php on line 9

I am attempting to connect as 'test'@'localhost' with the password 'test'. If I remove the password, I can connect no problem.

Lost User Id And Password
It would appear that the user id and the password needed to login to the database have 'flown the coupe', Is there anyway to recreat the user id and password for the admin user

User-defined Function: ERROR 2013 (HY000): Lost Connection To MySQL Server During Query
With mysql-4.1.1-alpha, using any User Defined Function ( UDF) at the
query execution stage, on Linux 2.6, gave me the following error:

"ERROR 2013 (HY000): Lost connection to MySQL server during query"

However, upgrading to mysql-4.1.2-alpha seemed to solve the problem.

Both versions were configured exactly as follows

../configure --with-openssl --enable-thread-safe-client --with-mysqld-ldflags
=-rdynamic

The only way I could solve this was by upgrading to 4.1.2-alpha-log. Then,
recompiling the functions, drop the old UDF functions, then, recreate.
So far so good.

Anyway, if you run into this problem, or just want more detail on the sample
User Defined Functions that come with MySQL ( /sql/udf_example.cc), I've put
my notes in the following link ( TIP 27 )

MySQL Not Working After Reboot
I just installed MySQL 4.0.18 on my Win2K computer. Once it installed, I
ran the WinMySQLAdmin program and everything worked fine. The little green
light was on, and I could connect to my databases.

However, as soon as I restarted my computer, the green light changed to a
red light, and since then I've been unable to connect to my databases. When
I open WinMySQLAdmin, the "Server" group box on the Environment page is
completely empty (it used to have lots of server information in it).

Server Reboot Causes Performance Improvement
I run MySQL 4.0.21 on Linux. I insert about 30,000 rows into a MyISAM table every hour. Once a day all rows with a timestamp older than 2 months will be deleted. The table currently contains about 35 million rows.

I experienced that the script that inserts new data hourly takes longer and longer. When I rebooted the complete machine the last time the script took about 1 minute to finish. Now a few weeks later it takes about 8 minutes. I tested this many times. Every time I reboot the whole machine, the script takes about 1 minute. The longer the machine runs the longer the script takes to finish.

Restarting of the MySQL server doesn't have any effect. I also tried "myisamcheck -r" but it also has no effect to the time the script takes.

It seems that all sort of queries get slower, not only inserts. Selects also slow down.

The machine has enough memory, mysqld only takes about 25% of the memory. And there are no other processes that need much memory.

Mysql Not Starting After VPS Server Reboot
I have a mysql db (Version: '4.0.22' FreeBSD port: mysql-server-4.0.22) running on an Verio VPS, and I am having an issue: After a power failure on Verio that meant restarted servers, etc, I saw that Mysql was not coming up.

I checked the logs / etc and I got this message on /var/db/mysql/<hostname>.err:

060925 00:15:53 mysqld started
060925 0:15:53 bdb: Recovery function for LSN 1 29049 failed
060925 0:15:53 bdb: warning: ./testperl/testab.db: No such file or directory
mysqld in free(): warning: chunk is already free
060925 0:15:53 Can't init databases
060925 0:15:53 Aborting

There is no ./testperl/testab.db anywhere I can see, but OTOH, there should only be a few dbs and none of them is called testperl... Honestly, I have no idea of what might be hapening, but having the db is quite a PITA.

Root Password Resets On Reboot
I have the community version running on my pc and every time I reboot my root password changes or resets somehow.

MySQL Fails To Start After Reboot In Win2K
I get this error (code 87).
I install MySQL 5.0, everything is fine.
I can work with it all day, no problem, all month, no problem.
I reboot ONCE, it fails to start automatically.
I manually start it... FAIL AGAIN.
I reinstall, all ok.

I catch too much info on google and I've read like 20 pages without any solution... just the same problem.....

System Crash, Reboot, Incorrect Information In File: './mysql/host.frm'
My virtual hosting company unexpectedly yanked the power on my server. I was using the mysql 5 command line at the time. After my system booted back up, I noticed mysql was down.

I tried to restart mysql. I got this:

/etc/init.d# ./mysql start

Starting MySQL database server: mysqld . . . . . . . . . . . . . . failed!

My syslog has this:

Passwords
1. I know in mySql you need a username and a password to access a database. However, can you set a username and password (or even just a password) to access a table or a row?

2. Is there a way you can set a database so you can only add data?

3. is there a way I can have people access values to a database (php) without using a password?

4. is there a way to set up diffrent users (with diffrent permissions) for accessing mySQL data?

5. Any comments about how I can get alot of people accessing a database, from diffrent websites, with keeping i as secure as possible?

Passwords
i've written a windows based from end for a mysql database that will work across a local intranet, it stores usernames and passwords for a reporting system, what is the best way to store the passwords int he db? i.e encrypted or?

Passwords & DBI/DBD
I installed the current stable release of MySQL from RPMs. I used the client
and server packages.

After installing the server package, the RPM printed a note saying I should
run two commands. I only got the first one, which was
# ./mysqladmin -u root --password
I assume this gave the root user a password.

I then downloaded and proceeded to compile the Perl DBI and DBD:mysql
packages. The DBI package installed fine after I also installed the
"MySQL-devel" RPM. Code:

Passwords
I want to store some passwords in a MySQL table. Is there any way of
preventing someone using say COntrolcentre from viewing the passwords.

Passwords
I am just starting out using mySQL. I created some databases and tables and
installed mySQLcc to ease my usage. After about 4 months, I've needed to
make some changes that needed root access. I appearantly wrote down the
wrong password so I couldn't make any changes. In the process of trying to
change the password I think I changed it again and unsynced mySQL and
mySQLcc because now I can't access any of the databases with any user.
Although I can still open mySQLcc, it can't connect to the database. I get
access denied no matter what I do. Is there a way to clear the passwords
and start over? Where are the passwords kept? Or do I have to remove
mySQL and reinstall it and start over?

Transferring Passwords
I tried doing a search but did not find the answer I was looking for.

I just redesigned the database that I had created a few months ago. I broke my one single table up into multiple tables.
My problem is that in my old large table I had a password column that is populated by using Password(). Is there a way for me to transfer the info from that column to my new broken down table set?

I did not create a new database when I broke up the large table, I just built my new tables around it so they are all stored in the same database. I'm not sure if that makes a difference or not.

Is it possible for me to just copy and paste the info from one of the fields into the new table? Or will that break the encryption?

Passwords For Myadmin
I am looking for a way to setup a username/password to myadmin. I made the mistake of showing other the website for admin work and now they are messing it all up.

Inserting Passwords Into DB
I have a couple of questions concerning the insertion of encrypted passwords into a mysql database (4.0)
first, some admins seem to think it's a good idea to feed the password in plaintxt to the db and have the db encrypt and store it. I tend to think this is less secure seeing as there is no seperation between the data and the encrypt/decrypt

so therefore encrypt the password beforehand and I want to insert nand retreive it that way. What type should I be using with the store, and what's the best way to store and retrieve it with that type?

Passwords / Authentication
I have just started messing around with MySQL and something I find weird is that we connecting using localhost, if I supply the password, it will not authenticate...if I leave the password off, it's fine.If I connect from another machine, it requires the password or it will not authenticate. Is that normal?

Transferred DB, Now Passwords Not Working..
We just switched hosting companies and transferred 3 of our DB's from the old server to the new. Everything seemed to go alright. Our sites are reading from the DB's however none of the users from our DB can log into the website.

When a user signs up to the site we use the MYSQL PASSWORD() function to enter the users passwords into the DB.

How To Encrpyt Passwords In Database?
I'm making a user login system with PHP/MySQL & when users sign up & such I want their password put into the database & encrpyted... how do you do this?

Encripting Passwords In Mysql
Is there any way to encript a password in a mysql database, so that if anyone looks in the database, they wont know peoples passwords?

Encoding Passwords In MySQL
I am developing a database application in which I store usernames and
passwords. Naturally I want to store the passwords in an encrypted form.
However, just like you see in many web applications, I want to be able
to email the users password back to them should they forget their old
password.

I looked at how to store the password data in MySQL and they recommend
using MD5 or SHA. Both of these appear to be one way encryption
routines. IOW once I encrypt and store the users password there is no
way to unencrypt it.

How can I store passwords in my SQL database such that I can convert
them back to plain text when the user requests them?

Problem With (hashed) Passwords
I my program I have my own login form from which I forward username and password to (ADO)ConnectionString, and then make Connection Active.
But, MySQL Server reports error 'Client does not support authentication protocol requested by server; consider upgrading MySQL client'
Newest version of server (and client) is installed.
Help says that server uses hashed password when user is attemp to connect.
How can I provide hashed password from my application?

Can't Add New Users & Passwords To Grant Table
I am running MySQL 4.1.7 on my Windows XP system. I can create databases, ect. on the command line, but when I try to run a PHP script I receive the 'Access denied' error message. I have tried using the Grant command to add a new user but nothing comes up when I show SHOW GRANT except the root user. How do I add the new users for running the PHP script?

Security For Shared Server.xml Passwords
I have an ISP that has the server.xml in a shared environment. The server.xml file is where my password is available for database access under connection pooling. I really would like to use connection pooling.

Does anyone know how I can protect my password from being viewed by others using the same server.xml file? I cannot get the administrator to change the protection of the file because others in the shared environment need to be able to view it.

Hide Mysql Usernames And Passwords
I'm trying to have people access a secure mysql database. If they get to a certain webpage, they have clearance to access the database, and we have one password and one username (that the users do not know). Does anyone know how to have it so the people cannot see the cgi script to access the database?

Mod_auth_mysql Or Mysql Usernames And Passwords
I'm writing a web app that needs a login page. I'm doing the dev on a
windows box although the final version will go on a Linux box. I can't
find any versions of mod_auth_Mysql precompiled for windows and have no
idea about compiling c.source on windows (or anything to do it with).

Is there a good reason I shouldn't store hashed password in MySQL and
call them from Python scripts instead of using the apache auth module
directly?

People Store Passwords In Database
i used to store the password in database using md5() function but there is no way to retrieve the

password back.

Now i want to know that -
is it standard and secure way to store password?
is there any other technique to store password so i can retrive it back?

Passwords, Permissions, And Blank Users
I have Apache 2 server, PHP5, and the latest MySQL installed on my system. I'm currently reading PHP and MySQL for Dummies (I told you I was a newbie) and trying to work through a few of the examples. One thing I noticed when I looked at the "users" table in the "mysql" database is a blank user with all privileges on localhost. I deleted that entry, set a password for my "root" account, and created another account with a non-blank password.

The problem I am having is that I am trying to connect to the database as "root" with a blank password, and it's still working. I then tried a blank user, and it worked. I tried a random assortment of letters and numbers, and it worked.

Switched To 4.1, Now Passwords Work Differently - How To Adjust?
I switched from MySQL 3.23 to 4.1. I used Pear DB but now, it doesn't seem to work so I switched to Pear MDB2.

I used MySQL Control Center to add a new system user to the MySQL user table but the password was like an nd5 hash instead of the old 16 character password in version 3.23.

When I try to connect it indicates it can not connect.

Binary Column Types / Hashed Passwords
I'm building an asp.net application using MySQL as the database. I've created a table to store usernames and passwords. During user creation and authentication - i'm presenting the db with a hashed password value.

When a hashed password is stored in a db - how should it appear in the table?

In the MySQL table I'm using to store username and passwords, it appears as
system.byte[]. The data type is defined as varchar(16), binary. The field is not behaving as it should during authentication - as long at I enter a valid username, the system authenticates me despite a correct or incorrect password value.

Can anyone help me to define the appropriate column type? My application works fine w/ MS SQL but fails w/ MySql. In MS SQL the field is described as:[PWD] [binary] (16) NULL

Packed Passwords In Command Line Programs
I think this is a trivial newbie question but can only be answered by a guru.

In command line programs, why should passwords be packed with the parameter name?

For example for mysqlimport one would write the command like that:
mysqlimport -u user -ppass

Why not just
mysqlimport -u user -p pass

?

Root User Denied Access To Fetch User List.
I can still log onto MySQL administrator or the command line program but I somehow appear to have lost all priveliges to alter or view the user list from this account. Even under the command line interface I can login but it tells me access is denied when I try to alter "root" permissions on a database.

I cannot seem to log onto any of the other accounts created but obviously if I could get into the user admin I could solve this.

Lost. <_>
I am currently learning PHP, and know a bit of it so far. Currently I am using a login system that checks for a file named what the person typed for the username, and then checks inside the file for the password. I really need to know how to use a MySQL database.

Can someone explain this really slow to me? Every site goes through it really fast not explaining all the details. And could you help me figure out how to make a login system?

Retrive Category Names Where Categoryid Is Different From User To User
I am trying to retrive category names where categoryid is different from user to user

I know LIKE works with one int(1), but I want it to work with more ints (1,3,5)
SELECT * FROM `categories` WHERE categoryid LIKE (1) Working

SELECT * FROM `categories` WHERE categoryid LIKE ( 1, 5 ) Not working

Copy User Privileges To A Newly Created User.
I have just created a user with specific permissions to certain tables
in different databases. Now I have to create serveral more users with
the same permission. Is there a command in MySQL that allows me to
create the new user by copying the privileges from a template user?

Connection Lost
I have an unusual problem with the error "Lost connection to MySQL sever
during query". I receive this message only when querying one table in a
database. All other tables and queries work fine.

Lost In A Select
I have a problem with a query :
describe autors ;
+---------+----------+------+-----+---------+----------------+
| Field | Type | Null | Key | Default | Extra |
+---------+----------+------+-----+---------+----------------+
| id | int(11) | | PRI | NULL | auto_increment |
| name | tinytext | YES | | NULL | |
| surname | tinytext | | | | |
+---------+----------+------+-----+---------+----------------+
describe unione ;
+-----------+---------+------+-----+---------+----------------+
| Field | Type | Null | Key | Default | Extra |
+-----------+---------+------+-----+---------+----------------+
| id | int(11) | | PRI | NULL | auto_increment |
| book | int(11) | | | 0 | |
| autor | int(11) | | | 0 | |
| coautor | int(11) | YES | | NULL | |
| argument | int(11) | YES | | NULL | |
| editors | int(11) | YES | | NULL | |
+-----------+---------+------+-----+---------+----------------+

$query1="SELECT pubbl,code,title,subtitle,volume,name,surname,editor,argument,year,book_index FROM autors,books,editors,unione,arguments,user_index
WHERE autors.id = unione.autor
AND books.id = unione.book
AND editors.id=unione.editor
AND arguments.id=unione.argument
AND user_index.book_index = book.id"

I need to select name, surname from table autors ( to match "autor" in "unione") , and then again as name2,surname2 from the same table to match the record "coautor" in the table unione ... but seems i'm not able to put all togheter .

Lost Connection
I am getting this error "ERROR 2013: Lost connection to MySQL server
during query" when i try to connect from one client, on all other
clients i don't have any problems connecting to specific server.
Also from this client i can connect to the other servers without any
problem.

Lost Connection
I send a big INSERT request to the mysql server and I very often get a 'Lost connection to MySQL server during query' error. Though the client and the server are on the same machine.... Is there any way to avoid this problem ?

Connection Lost
I've got the following problem: I've an select wich gets binary Data out of my sql-table.
The type is longblob and i've lauded some files into it previously with the LOAD_FILE function.

The files have a size between 0.5 and 3MB. I'm loading the data out of the tables with a select like: SELECT data FROM files WHERE file_id=1

After executing the command and some seconds waiting (70 seconds) i get the error "connection lost".

The file i'm actually trying to load has a size of 1,5MB.
(Im using mysql with C++ and the execQuery returns with false after that 70 seconds).

The code above worked fine as long as i use my computer as client use the server in my LAN or the remote server (client and server located in Germany).
When my mate tries to use this code from India the above error occures.

The question now is how can i handle that error? What can i do to get the file even if the inet connection might be a little bit unstable or slow?
Im specially interested in the way how the communication between client and server works. Is the "connection lost" because of instability or because of a timeout?
Every other query works fine from india, only this one which needs some bandwidth is failing.

Besides: i've set the following parameters both for server and client:
mysql_opt_timeout = 5;
mysql_opt_max_allowed_packet = 16*1024L*1024L; //16MB

for the mysql_opt_timeout: is this a timeout which is only important for establishing the connection? or does it affects every query?

All Privileges Lost!!!
After a big mistake in PHPMyAdmin, I've lost all privileges. Now i can't connect my database, is solution existing to create again a user with privileges? If not how to save my database before a new install of MySQL?

Lost Connection

clients i don't have any problems connecting to specific server.

problem.

Lost Database?
I have had to repair my copy of windows and I have lost my databases. However I do have the .frm and .opt files for each database still in the mysql5.0/data folder. Is there a way to restore my databases with just these files?

Data Lost
I accidently deleted some of my data from my table in my java code using resultset.deleterow method and earlier i had a copy of the database, what i did was went to installation directory of mysql/data/mydb and copied the folder mydb which had some .frm files in, i have the folder in the pen drive, is there a way to get the data back as when i pasted the folder from the pen drive to mysql/data/ it didnt brought the data back.

Lost Conectivity
I am running phpdev w/perl mod, apache, MySQL, and everything seemed fine. I have been trying the MySQL CC and now I am getting "cannot connect to localhost 10050" Where did he come from and how do I get rid of him.
