MySQL Config File
I see that there are several MySQL configuration files on my machine: Quote: /usr/share/mysql/my-large.cnf /usr/share/mysql/my-huge.cnf /usr/share/mysql/my-innodb-heavy-4G.cnf /usr/share/mysql/my-medium.cnf /usr/share/mysql/my-small.cnf How do I know which one my install is using?
Configure A 'config.inc.php' File (was "phpMyAdmin")
This is my first go at creating a PHP/MYSQL website so please could someone help me? Basically i'm using phpMyAdmin to manage my MYSQL database on my webserver. However you have to configure a 'config.inc.php' file before you can use the system. Can anyone talk me through what settings I need to include in this config file to make it secure? Mainly i'm worried about the differences between 'cookie', 'conifg' and 'http' modes. What do they mean (i've tried reading the FAQ's but they don't help much for newbee's!)? Which one should I use? I hope someone can just give me some clear advice on what I need to do to get my database online and relatively secure.
PhpMyAdmin Config.inc.php

MySQL Config
I have installed MySQL on Windows98se twice under different paths, and then deleted the second installation. When i run MySQL as usual using the line "C:Program Files uspheremysqlinmysqld-opt.exe" , i get the following error msg: C:Program Files uspheremysqlinmysqld-opt.exe: Fatal error: Can't find messagefile 'C:Program Files usphere2mysqlshareenglisherrmsg.sys' notice that it runs from "nusphere" but tries to find the errmsg.sys file under the other folder "nuspehere2" which i have deleted. I tried looking for a config file so that i can force MySQL to look in the proper "nusphere" path, but i could not find any. I have also tried to look for an entry in the registry but came out with nothing aswell. Have I missed something? Any ideas on how to solve this?

MySQL Config Error
I have been tasked to create a CMS for a website, however first I must install it locally to my laptop. I have chosen Joomla! as my CMS, and I understand that in order to run that I must first install Apache, MySQL, and PHP (in that order). Apache installed fine, as did MySQL (the most recent version), however, it will not let me configure it or run the config tool at the end of the installation, citing the message: "the side-by-side configuration is incorrect." Does anybody have any idea why this keeps happening and what I can do to resolve it?

Please see the application event log for more detail." I cannot find the application event log, though.

Log-error File 'not Found' But This Same File Being Written To?!
I recently put up a message board and I get around 150+ hits a day so far. I've recently had some people sign up with my board but unfortunately, no one seems to be posting (they're just lurking around). I'm currently doing some promotions in the hope that others will post (like giving away a Lord of the Rings poster to all users who has 20 posts or more). Of course, my board has only been up for less than a month (3 weeks to be exact) so I know I need to be patient but I would appreciate any advice you can give me on how to turn lurkers into posters.
.db.bk File
Need some file help. I had a host create a dump file of a mySQL database for me and the file is a .db file with a .bk extension (database file with a backup extension); i.e. filename.db.bk. I am moving a site to a new server and am used to having a .sql file for the database backup. How do I convert this file to a .sql so I can upload it to the new database?
Log File
I'm running mysql 4.1 with logging enabled. The master server produces a log file which is used for replication. I was wondering if there is a way to make the logfile turn over without stopping the database. Sometimes the file gets rather large and I'd like to turn it over without having to shut down mysql.
Where Is The .MYD File
I installed the MySQL server 5.0 and created a table with the default storage engine in the "test" database. But I cannot find the .MYD and .MYI file in the data directory. Only a .frm file resides there. Where are the .MYD and .MYI files?
What To Do With A Dmp.gz File ?
I've a site hosted at ipower.com and I recently upgraded my vDeck control panel from version 2 to 3 as they suggested. Before that, I'd an option to backup my databases and they were just a .gz which on extraction gave me all .myd,.myi and .frm for each and every table so as to replace any table or entire DB in my local server. Now, on clicking download, it gives a dmp.gz, and on extraction a dmp file. How can I use this file in phpmyadmin or local file system to see the data ?
File Fox
I've been using a document management system called FileFox on a Windows 95 platform and need to migrate the data from FileFox (apparently stored in .dat files) to a more current database package that will run on a Windows XP platform. Has anyone else ever used FileFox or is there some way to migrate the data from these .dat files?
No Log File
mysql Ver 11.18 Distrib 3.23.52, for pc-linux-gnu (i686) The doc page on mysql.com says "...start it with the --log[=file_name]...". When I put --log in the safe_mysqld line and restart - it doesn't start. Take it out, starts right up. And I can't tell if logging has any thing to do with /etc/my.cnf Bottom line of what I'm after - violations of a unique index. That 10,000 inserts worked just fine - don't care - that 5 lines were already there, yes.

Which One Ini File Is The Correct One ?
I have install mysql in my windows machine. The confusion part here is that I find there 7 different ini files. The files are my.ini,my-huge.ini,my-innodb-heavy-4G.ini,my-large.ini,my-medium.ini,my-small.ini and my-template.ini. So which one is being used as the configuration files. I assume it is the my.ini one right ? So why is there so many other ini files? My another question is that in my.ini I dont find the option for the bin-log settings but ? Because I want to the option of binary log to be enable to allow me to trace back if there is any mistake ?
Changes To My.cnf File For Review
Okay, I'm hoping someone can review the changes I propose to make to the my.cnf file for our installation. I'm new to the administration side of things and want to make certain my syntax, etc. are okay. We're still in the development stage of things, so that's why the changes are pretty basic and (for now) I want query logging on. I'd also appreciate any input on 'must have' options in the configuration. We will be a web-based application with periodic bulk updates, user access controlled via the middleware. Here is the my.cnf content: [mysqld] datadir=/var/lib/mysql socket=/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock log-error=/var/log/mysql/log.err # query logging added april 17 2007, turn off for production implementation log=/var/log/mysql/querylog log-bin=/var/log/mysql/logbin #Disallow authentication for accounts that have old (pre-4.1) passwords. secure-auth # INNODB specific settings # The default storage engine that will be used when create new tables default-storage-engine=INNODB # If set to 1, InnoDB will flush (fsync) the transaction logs to the # disk at each commit, which offers full ACID behavior. If you are # willing to compromise this safety, and you are running small # transactions, you may set this to 0 or 2 to reduce disk I/O to the # logs. Value 0 means that the log is only written to the log file and # the log file flushed to disk approximately once per second. Value 2 # means the log is written to the log file at each commit, but the log # file is only flushed to disk approximately once per second. innodb_flush_log_at_trx_commit=1 [mysql.server] user=mysql basedir=/var/lib [mysqld_safe] err-log=/var/log/mysqld.log pid-file=/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.pid
Where Does The Backup File Go?
I cannot find the msqldump backup file after issuing the command. When I do a google desktop search it does not show up. I've looked in the bin folder, the data folder, the mysql 5.0 server folder -- alas it is not their. Here is the command I issue >mysqldump -u root -p naasf > nasskbak.sql I then get the following >password: I enter the password, about 3 seconds pass, and then the dos prompt returns. I assume the dump file is being made, but I can't seem to find it. BTW, I did check the PATH variable and it is set the mysql server bin.

Backed up the data directory from mirror2 into old and untarred mirror1 Then I did a diff -r against another mirror and the diff came back with Binary files old/blahblahblah.MYI and data/blahblahblah.MYI differ, For all the .MYI files. How Do I Read The Log-bin File?
Does anyone know how to read the binary log from a client workstation? The log is named hostname-bin.001 and when I open the file it is unreadable (obviously because it is in binary). So making a shortcut to that file will not do the trick. How can I open the file via a mysql command prompt on a client PC?
