Can't Connect To MYSQL Server On Localhost <1006>

I am new to MYSQL and want to get it up and running I have it installed as a service. When I test the installation using the command C:mysql inmysqlshow I get the following ERROR Message:

can't connect to MYSQL Server on "localhost" <1006>

How do I fix this?
