Close Mysql Port Or Bind It To Only Localhost Or ...
I only use mysql locally. I want to
- close port 3306 if possible (like starting Oracle database without
starting listener),
- or bind it to localhost only (like what sendmail does),
- or next best thing
for security.
I am on redhat 9, and use mysql 3.23.55. I can upgrade if newer
version provide the functionality.

How To Make MySQL Bind To 2 Of 3 NIC's?
I have a system that has 3 NIC adapters, 1 is not on private network and I don't want MySQL to bind to that IP address. So, my question is how to accomplish this? I tried specifying multiple --bind-address= settings, but the last one overrides the first one and it only binds to one NIC.
VB And Mysql Bind Parameters Error
I have a VB app that connects to a mysql database using ODBC and a DSN. The power went off while the program was on and after a database repair, I get this error when trying to execute a part of the program. sql bind parameters not used for all parameters? I never had this problem before and havent changed the code or database structure.

Must One Close A MySQL Database?
I've got a little PHP/MySQL learning project where I'm simply storing links to sites, for display. One page shows the categories to choose from, and when the user makes a choice we jump to the next page which does a query on the category and displays all matching links. People will be going back and forth between the two pages, which makes me want to open the database and table once and leave it open. The alternative is repeated opening/closing.. which must introduce quite a bit of overhead. The problem is if the user simply leaves either page, which they presumably will at some point, the database will never be closed via an actual close statement. What happens in a case like that? In my testing I can't find any downside to doing this, but I suspect there must be one
Linux Mysql Nfs : Bind On Unix Socket: Function Not Implemented

What Port Does Mysql Use For SSL?

MySQL Port
How do I check that what Port number is MySQL is running on it? I type this command: netstat -a did not show anything yet. But I know that mysql run 3306 as default number, but when I run the following command: netstat -a | grep 3306 gives the following warning: 'warning, got duplicate tcp line'

MySQL Server On Different Port
Because I'm using a Java program that connect to my MySQL server from a remote location that doesn't allow connecting to port 3306. I'm forced to change the port to a number that will work on the client end. Port 23 is allowed and since I don't run a telnet server, I'd like to run MySQL on port 23 instead of 3306. I change it to port 23 in the my.conf file, but the service won't start. I can make it port 3310 and it'll start just fine. Why won't it let me use 23?

MySQL 4.0.1 Port 3306 Error
I am trying to run the server on my PC and have already got Apache and PHP working fine. Whenever I run MySQL 4.0.1 Gamma however, a port 3306 error comes up saying that I possibly have another copy of the MySQL server already running which is not true. Also, I have noticed that my internet connection ceases to function along with Apache and everything tells me I'm behind an unknown proxy server.

Mysql Commandline Tool -- Port Broken
the "mysql" command allows me to use any ridiculous number after "--port=", even "80", as shown below. I can even use a random string like "abcd" in place of "80". Exactly what I want to do? I need to experiment with the "mysql" commandline tool together with tcpdump. So far, my tcpdump command cannot detect *any* thing about mysql. yes my tcpdump can detect http traffic. yes my tcpdump can detect something when i run "telnet loalhost 3306". ------------- snip --------------- $ mysql -u xxx -pxxxxxx -h localhost --port=80 -vvv Welcome to the MySQL monitor. Commands end with ; or g. Your MySQL connection id is 8319 to server version: 3.23.58 Reading history-file /home/httpd/vhosts/portal.crpp.servy.net/.mysql_history Type 'help;' or 'h' for help. Type 'c' to clear the buffer.
Setting Bind-address
I know by default that the bind-address is set to 127.0.0.1 which is basically local host. What I'm wondering is if it is possible to set mysql to listen for connections from multiple specified IP's? The basic idea is that the main mysql database runs on a dedicated db server and other servers connect to the db via the specified port provided the proper permissions and so on. I've read that you can remove the bind-address line completely to make mysql listen for outside connections but that also opens up huge security holes. I'm sure there has to be a way to do what I'm looking for, I just haven't found it yet.
Mysql Command Line Client Ignores Port Number
I am running 4.1-7 on an SGI (unix.) The server is listening on port 3307. I can connect like: mysql -uusername -ppassword -P123 -hhostname database and I can also connect like: mysql -uusername -ppassword -P3307 -hhostname database and they BOTH connect! It seems that mysql ignores the port number passed in on the command line. Is it reading a config file that I am missing (if so, why doesn't the command line port override whatever is set in this file.)
How To Connect Directly To Mysql Server Port (3306) Using TCP/IP Protocol
I want to develop an application in LabWindows/CVI (ANSI C developpment software for instrumentation) from which I could connect directly to mysql server port (3306) using TCP/IP protocol. This developpment environment allows me to use functions to connect, read and write to a certain port using TCP/IP protocol. I must say I'm new to using MySQL and I searched the manual without any response to my question.

Client Ignores Close Of Connection?
we're seeing strange behaviour of mysql connections over network here lately. Server and client are on different machines. Server (corpdb) is Mysql 3.23.52 on FreeBSD 4.6.2-RELEASE, client is php application (portal), Mysql-client 3.23.55, PHP 4.2.3, Apache 1.3.27 on FreeBSD 4.8-RELEASE. The boxes are connected over Cisco Catalyst switch in the same LAN. There is ipf firewall running on portal, no firewall running on corpdb. The problem we're seeing is manifesting as failure to connect to mysql server from the php application (pconnect function). I did tcpdump traces on both machines, and my theory what's happening follows: Imagine long time open and idle connection. Mysql server decides to close this connection (13:55:06), it sends FIN to client. Client ACKs the FIN, but not send his FIN as in ordinary TCP connection close. Server closes the connection on his end, but client is keeping connection opened on his end. After half hour (14:28:25) client want to talk to the server and sends packet (P) to server. Server no longer have opened connection on that port, responds with RST. Client replies with FIN and returns connection error to PHP. My question here is: where could be bug? I suspect mysql client....

Unable To Bind To Field Or Datamember Run-time Error 545
We just upgraded our MySQL Linux development server to 4.1.9-standard. Our visual basic applications are now complaining that certain fields are not being able to bind. "Unable to bind field or DataMember: "bill_id". We also tried MyODBC driver 3.51.06 and the latest MyODBC. It still does the same thing. We had this happen when we had ONLY upgraded the MyODBC driver to the latest version and NOT the server version which I think was running 4.0.13 at the time. Does anyone have ANY clue on what might be wrong? The field DOES exist in the table.

Open And Close Time 2000 Kills The Connection
I am moving some data from a text file into mysql and my code in c# using ODBC fails. Actually I created a loop to test mysql and realized that mysql goes banans when for(int i=0; i < 5000; i++) { connection.Open(); connection.Close(); } This code is for illustration purposes ONLY but it should work!? When I reache around 2000 the connection.Open() loses the connection to localhost and terminates the program! After a minute I can get access to mysql again? Inserting a delay of 100ms seems to keep things going.
Backup MySQL Via Port 3306 (which Tool? Automatic Backup?)
i have quite a big database on my website - and i cannot get any backup via system dump or scripts anymore, because my hoster added some memory limits - and scripts/dump can't finish... so the only way left is to backup my database via connection to port 3306 and tools like mysqlfront. mysqlfront is unfortunately quite slow and buggy - so do you know any tools which can backup databases via external connection? - it would be great if there are tools which run automatically? (batch/commandline??) backup with mysql.exe - h -u .... is impossible, too!
How Do I Start MySQL On Localhost?
I am using windows XP. If I try to start mysql from the command line, I get the error: ERROR 2003: Can't connect to MySQL server on 'localhost' <10061> The problem is, I think, that the server isn't running. So how do I start the server? A "telnet localhost 3306" failed to connect. Also, I can not see any mysql processes running in the task manager. I installed MySQL with Apache2Triad. It installs mysql, php, and apache, all at the same time. It worked, until I shut down my PC, and brought it back up.
Connecting To MySQL In Localhost
I am totally new to php and i am using Dreamweaver 8. I am trying to create a page to initiate connection to the MySQL Server 5.0 at localhost, but the browser returns me this error message: "Fatal error: Call to undefined function mysql_connect() in c:InetpubwwwrootMy_PHPconnect_to_mysql.php on line 11" The testing code i was trying as below: <?php $connection = mysql_connect('localhost', 'root', 'password'); if (!$connection) { die('Could not connect: ' . mysql_error()); } echo 'Connected successfully'; mysql_close($connection);
MySQL To Work On My Localhost
I am doing my first web site in PHP after having developed countless sites w/ ASP and Access. I am running Windows XP Pro on my laptop with IIS 5.x I believe. THe web site I am going to be revising is on an Apache server I believe. I say I believe as the hosting company reps. don't speak English and are not so co-operative. So what I intend to do is to fully develop the site on my local host with the intent of then transferring it over. Are there anythings I MUST know before going this route? Also, where do I begin with getting mySQL to work on my localhost? Is it similar to Access whereas I just dbl click a file and it opens a nice handy application like access to work in the tables, etc?
MySQL Setup On XP Localhost
I have got the server working on Win XP Pro according to Winmysqladmin.exe. I have a password in my.ini but when I go to CMD to login to root, it gives me: "ERROR 1045: Access denied for user: 'root@localhost' <Using password: YES>" I am the system admin. I am however not using 'localhost' as such since I am behind a router that has assigned this workstation: 192.168.0.3. The USER and HOST are clearly shown in winmysqladmin.exe, like it knows about it, but the mySQL.user database shows only root USERS on "Build & Localhost" and two blanks also...the only way I can currently log on. Is this a no Win situation? I've been at this for 3 days going in circles and I suspect UNIX developers are exceeding happy to hear this. Yeah, I'm using IIS 5.1 instead of Apache too.
Linux Mysql 'localhost' Failed

Cannot Access MySQL With Hostname But Can With Localhost
I'm running Ubuntu Dapper and MySql 5.0.22, which I got from Ubuntu's Synaptic Package Manager. MySQL is running just fine but I cannot connect using my hostname. My hostname is halibut. It is listed as such in my /etc/hosts. If I type hostname, the value halibut returns. If I manually start up MySQL with --log, the logfile is called halibut.log. So as root I invoke mysql and issue grant all on auth.* to 'myuser'@'halibut' identified by 'secret'; create database auth; Then in another window, I issue mysql auth -h halibut -u myuser -p I get prompted for the password which I enter but then I get an error that says Access denied for user 'myuser'@'localhost' (using password: YES). Son of a gun I didn't specify localhost. Now if back in my root window I grant privileges to 'myuser'@'localhost', I can get in. It seems MySQL will not recognize my hostname or rather always interprets it as localhost. If I look at the user table in the mysql database in mysql, and "select host, user, password from user" I see the myuser listed with host=halibut. And now that I added another I also see it with host=localhost. If I drop the entry with localhost, then I cannot log in as before. Does anyone know why I cannot access MySQL using my hostname?
'mysql -h Localhost -u Root -p' Shortcut
A strange qustion, but i was wondering if there was a quick way to log into mysql in terminal on OS X without having to type mysql -h localhost -u root -p everytime. This is purely for time saving reasons, and I'm sure you might think 'why doesn't he just type it?' but I'm curious.
Cannot Connect To MySQL Via Root@localhost
I installed Apache2.0 and PHP5.0.5 and then MySQL 4.1. I used the MySQL Instance Wizard setup, chose port 3306 and then at the end of the setup it always said @Cannot apply security, Connection Error, Access denied to root@localhost, Please check if there is anyway firewall or so...@ I don't have any firewalls and I have tried all the other port numbers but still the same message. And because of this error I cann't connect to the mySQL database.
Port Range
What range of ports does MySQL use because I need to set it up with my firewall. At the moment i have added 3306 but when it changes port to one in whatever the range is it says lost connection to server. It works fine with firewall off.
