Contents Of A Mysql File Created By Mysqldump
I want to view the contents of a .mysql file created by using mysqldump. Short of reading it back into a database using mysql, is there a way just to view what tables are in it?

Viewing Contents Of Mysqldump
I dumped my vBulletin database to a text file and wanted to view it in Notepad. However, since the file was 5 MB, Notepad doesn't seem to want to open it. I'm just curious of the contents inside and was wondering if there's a way to view these large text files?
Mysqldump Does Not Dump Single Table Contents
I just started learning to use mysqldump, which I found very useful in dumping database contents in xml format. However I was unable to dump contents of a single table. I tried following command: mysqldump <database_name>.<table_name> --password --force --xml Intrestingly, I am able to dump contents of the entire database via this command: mysqldump <database_name> --password --force --xml
Upload File Contents To Database Using C API
What I am trying to do is to take the contents of a very large text file and place it into a LONGTEXT field in a database. I am looking for a solution using the C API to help me handle this. The code I use right now is very ineffecient. I basically use a VERY large character array that is like 600,000 characters long and store an UPDATE query to the database in this. I place the contents of the file being uploaded into this query where I SET the LONGTEXT field to the file contents. I know there has to be a much better way of handling this, so if you have any ideas, please let me know.
Mysqldump File
I know I knew how to do this, and I know that I found it somewhere in the manual, but it's Monday and I'm heading out so I thought I'd ask you all and hopefully have an answer when I get back on Tuesday so I can stop banging my head against the keyboard. Recently set up mysql 4.0.20a on a development machine to try and upgrade to 4.1 before I blow up the live database and I make an hourly dump form the live database using mysqldump.I grabed the latest dump and moved it to the development machine but I can't for the life of me recall how to take that file and make it create all the database, tables, and data on the new install. Any thoughts linkage to the right portion of the MySQL manual definatly acceptable As an aside, did anyone else find the MySQL page to be extremely slow today (2/7/2005)
Mysqldump Backup To More Than One File
We currently use mysqldump to dump all our db's in quick mode to one file, backup.sql. This file has come quite large. mysqldump -Aq -u root > /MySQL/backup/backup.sql I would now like to split the mysqldump so that the output comprises of several files of less than 2 gigabytes each. Does anyone know the mysqldump options that could be used to do this? Or with using the > out command?
Numbers In A Mysqldump File Mean
In mysqldump files there are numbers and settings preceding the insert data. /*!40101 SET NAMES utf8 */; /*!40103 SET @OLD_TIME_ZONE=@@TIME_ZONE */; /*!40103 SET TIME_ZONE='+00:00' */; /*!40014 SET @OLD_UNIQUE_CHECKS=@@UNIQUE_CHECKS, UNIQUE_CHECKS=0 */; /*!40014 SET @OLD_FOREIGN_KEY_CHECKS=@@FOREIGN_KEY_CHECKS, FOREIGN_KEY_CHECKS=0 */; /*!40101 SET @OLD_SQL_MODE=@@SQL_MODE, SQL_MODE='NO_AUTO_VALUE_ON_ZERO' */; /*!40111 SET @OLD_SQL_NOTES=@@SQL_NOTES, SQL_NOTES=0 */; I can figure out what the settings do but what do the numbers mean? Is there a reference that lists all the numbers?

Sheduled Mysqldump Via Windows Bat File
I want to make a scheduled task in windows to do a mysqldump. Someone gave me this .bat to run but I'm not able to get it to work. REM @echo off for /f "tokens=1" %%i in ('date /t') do set DATE_DOW=%%i for /f "tokens=2" %%i in ('date /t') do set DATE_DAY=%%i for /f %%i in ('echo %date_day:/=-%') do set DATE_DAY=%%i for /f %%i in ('time /t') do set DATE_TIME=%%i for /f %%i in ('echo %date_time::=-%') do set DATE_TIME=%%i C:Program FilesMySQLMySQL Server 4.1in mysqldump -u user -p'pass' dbname >C:DATE_DAY%_%DATE_TIME%_database.sql When I run this script it doesn't work. All I get is a blank .sql file in the output directory.
How Do You Import A Mysqldump File Using Query Browser?
I have a MySQL 4.1.5-gamma-nt-max instance running on a Windows 2000 Server box. I have tried creating a script to restore a mysqldump backup file to a schema on that server. Here is my syntax: set foreign_key_checks=0; source b:/folderwithdata/data.043006 set foreign_key_checks=1; When I execute this locally on the server from the command line, it executes without a hitch. However, the server is going to be located in a server farm where I will not have access so I have tried to execute this from my workstation using Query Browser. I launch Query Browser and execute the script and get the following error: You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use. ErrorNr: 1064 near 'SOURCE B:/FOLDERWITHDATA/DATA.043006 SET FOREIGN_KEY_CHECKS=1' at line 1 Like I said, it executes fine on the server via command line so I know it's not bombing out on some syntax within the file itself. So I'm assuming it has something to do with how I'm writing the script in the GUI itself.

Can't Open Pdf Link Created In PHP/MySQL
I created a MySQL database with all the pdf papers on my HD. The path to a pdf file is stored e.g. D:DocsPapersBerg2003a.pdf In php I do the query and output the link: echo "<a href='file://" $row->pdf ."'>pdf</a>"; But when the page is generated and I click on it nothing happens. If I do right click, copy link and paste it in the browser field, the pdf file opens though! Looking at the html code, it reads in Firefox: <a href="file://D:%5CDocs%5CPapers%5Cwind03%5Cpdfs%5Berg2003a.pdf">pdf</a> and in IE6 <a href='file://D:DocsPaperswind03pdfsBerg2003a.pdf'>pdf</a> I have also tried .str_replace('','/',$row->pdf) but with the same result.
How To Import "mysqldump" File Into Different Database?
We have successfully used "mysqldump" to create backup files for our databases on our mysql installation. We wish to test the quality/integrity of our dump files by importing a dump file into an empty database having a name different from the original source database from which we created the mysqldump file. Can someone offer an example of a command we would use to restore a dumpfile into a database different from the original source database?
Mysqldump, Getting Error Error #1016, Can't Open *.ibd File
So we have a MySQL database that suddenly started reporting "can't open *.ibd file" errors on InnoDB tables in phpMyAdmin. (MyISAM are fine). To recover the data is all I want at this point -- so one suggestion I came across was to try and dump using mysqldump like this: mysqldump -u root -p mydatabase databasedump.sql Enter password: ******************* mysqldump: Got error: 1016: Can't open file: 'access.ibd' (errno: 1) when using LOCK TABLES Is there a way to run this dump so that it will export the database tables and ignore the *.ibd error? I had read that removing *.frm files might help, but our testing suggests that it isn't effective either.
Files "-bin.xxx" Created In Mysql/data Subdirectory
I'm using an old version of Mysql : 3.23.58 In this version (may be it is the same in the latest one) some files named :<machine>-bin.001 , 002, 003, ... are created some times to times in the mysql/data subdirectory. Is somebody have some information about these files ? What are they including ? When are they created ? Can I remove them ?
Search Contents
I've been using MySQL for some time, but am relatively inexperienced at forming queries. I can do basic searches, etc on tables. However - I would like to search the ENTIRE contents of my database, all tables, all rows, and all columns for data that contains certain strings. I have a CMS based system, and I'm concerned about pollution to some of the tables (eg SPAM stuff). Is there a way to (with one query) to search the entire contents of the database for certain strings?
Replace Contents
I have a table called "popp_imglibrary" I want to overwrite the contents of a field in it called "caption" with the data from another field within the same table called "imgname" I real noob question but should I use the replace command? If yes then please could somebody help me a bit with the syntax?
Combine Contents
I would like to combine the contents of two tables if possible, the result will be used for my application. To better understand my problem I export a DBF database to a MySQL one which will be used for my application. Over time the MySQL may be edited so obviously I want to keep this changes but at the same time I would like to get any new records from my DBF into this MySQL table.I thought about creating a temporary MySQL table exported from the latest copy of my DBF and somehow trying to merge the old MySQL table (that may contain changes) with the new one. I have a look through the MySQL commands but can't seem to find anything that may help me with it.
Email Contents
I have tried to get this to work with no luck as yet. What I have also tried is to use the command() function still nothing. Also tried the CronJob still nothing. How else can i back up the MySQL database. I am using Operating system Linux MySQL 4.1.18-standard-log phpMyAdmin 2.6.4-pl2
Log-bin Not Created
I am using mysql version 4.0.12 on a solaris sparc box. My server has stopped creating the log-bin files although it is defined in my.cnf. The directory permissions of the data directory are fine. What is wrong with the setup?
How Do I Upload A File To MySQL Database And View That File
I do not know how to upload a file to MySQL database and view the posting file on the webpage. I followed the code on-line that show me how to upload, but when I click "browse" to open my file in local drive and click "upload". Nothing happen ! How can I view it on the web page to make sure it was saved in data base.
DISTINCT With Full Row Contents
I'm using the following line to filter out duplicate entries in my db: SELECT DISTINCT restaurant_name FROM restaurants WHERE state = 'CA' which filters properly and brings in all restaurants in California with distinct restaurant names. The problem is, it ONLY brings in the restaurant names. If i add the field i want to the SELECT DISTINCT line, it uses both of those in the DISTINCT query and brings in more values than I want. How would I bring in more info about each restaurant (at least the primary 'id' field) that's in the same row as the restaurant name?
Duplicating Contents Of DB Within Same DB With Different Prefix
I revert to this forum to ask for help accomplishing a specific task. I'll try to explain as best I can. Say I have a DB named... well... "database1", this db has the following tables: pt_table1 pt_table2 pt_table3 What I want to do is copy each of the tables (exactly as they are, including primary keys, data, etc) but at the same time change the prefix to something else (ie: eng_) so that I would end up with: pt_table1 pt_table2 pt_table3 en_table1 (exact copy of pt_table1, including data PK, FK, etc..) en_table2 (exact copy of pt_table2, including data PK, FK, etc..) en_table3 (exact copy of pt_table3, including data PK, FK, etc..) Anyway of accomplishing this? Ideally without having to state each of the tables names. And also that this would work so that you could also only duplicate tables that have a certain prefix say: duplicate only tables that start with "pt_" and change prefix to "es_" for example.
Recover Table Contents
I have been maintaining a mysql db on our company website for some time (about a year). I am not a mysql master and all i know are basic (command line) navigation statements, insert, delete, update statements and little else. i was just updating an id number (uploadid) in a table which contains all of our files stored in the db for download. i entered this statement: update content set uploadid = 408 where uploadid -64; you can see the problem. i put a - instead of an = . the moment i saw what i did i pressed Crtl+C to stop it (hopefully). I got a message "Aborted". This (seemingly) removed the entire table (all 455MB worth). There's a lot of things I cannot replace that were stored in there. I have a backup of all the site Directories i have unzipped. I was just looking in the mysql sub-dir on the server (a a linux box) and in the db folder "lava" are a list of files ending in .frm .myi and .myd . There are 3 files corresponding to each table in the db. The ones that concern me are upload.frm (9 kb) upload.myi (8 kb) and upload.myd (441.80 MB). From what I am seeing, apparently the content of the table is still intact, but does not show up when i enter a "select * from upload;" statement at the cmd line. Is there ANY way for me to restore the table contents from the .myd file so that the rest of the db sees it again? I'm depserate and I'm not sure that I can get everything working again by copying the backup over the existing dir contents. This is the first time I have ever tried to restore a broken table in a db, since i'm a graphic designer not a db guy, i'm not sure what i can do.
Replacing Contents Of 1 Column
Does anyone know how to replace the contents of 1 column of a table? I've figured out how to dump the entire table to a file using: mysql> SELECT * INTO OUTFILE '/tmp/filename.txt' FIELDS TERMINATED BY ',' FROM TableName; and how to load the entire table back in using: mysql> load data infile '/tmp/filename.txt' into table TableName; but I'm only want to manipulate 1 column of data. Basically, I want to copy the data from 1 column, and paste it into a different column. I'm new to mysql, and I've been looking through the mysql reference manual all day, and it's making my brain hurt because I don't always understand the syntax of the manual.
Test For Field Contents
I want to return a field containing TRUE if a field contains data and FALSE if a field does not contain data, does anyone want to help me out with the syntax for this one?
Contents Of Single Cell
I need to get the contents of a single cell (as the title suggests...). Here's my codes: mysql_connect("localhost", "****", "*********") or die("Error inputting information to the database. Please try again later, or email us at excalo@cox.net. Sorry!"); mysql_select_db("nathan_forum") or die("Error connecting to the database. Please try again later, or email us at excalo@cox.net. Sorry!"); $thing = mysql_query("SELECT username FROM users WHERE id='1'"); print $thing; When I run it, it gives me "Resource ID 2". The actual table is included.
Get The Id Of The Newly Created Row
it is possible to get the id of a newly created row in mysql?, without having to make another query, to check it, i mean, to get the id right from the insert query.

Query Limited By Contents Of An Array
I want to select all emails for volunteers that have signed up for any combination of open classes. The selected classes are contained in the array $_POST['class']. // create a comma-delimited list of classes selected $comma_separated_classes = implode(',', $_POST['class']); $query2 = "SELECT email FROM volunteers WHERE class_id IN '$comma_separated_classes' "; The WHERE . . . IN syntax isn't correct, but I can't find an example of what I need at mysql.com. What would be the correct query to select emails from all of the class_id's that are in the array?
Removing Html Tags & Contents
does anybody know of any available code that will remove html tags and their contents from a field within a SQL query? For example on the following I would want to remove the tags leaving "Hello - this is a test this is a test this is a test this is a test this is a test" "Hello - this a test <A href="test.html">click here</a> this is a test this is a test <script language=javascript>go</script> this is a test this is a test"
Clear Contents Of One Field In Dbase
I have 6 fields in mysql database. All the fields are full of data. I would like to clear the contents of one of the fields and leave the remaining fields alone.
Using Database Contents As Column Names
I have two tables I'm trying to join up, and would like to know if the following is possible: table1 : SELECT * from mediatype +-------------+---------+ | mediatypeid | type | +-------------+---------+ | 1 | MP3 | | 2 | ra_low | | 3 | ra_med | | 4 | ra_high | +-------------+---------+ Table 2: SELECT trackid, mediatypeid, url from media +---------+-------------+----------------+ | trackid | mediatypeid | url | +---------+-------------+----------------+ | 1 | 1 | mymp3.mp3 | | 1 | 2 | myothermp3.mp3 | | 1 | 3 | busted.mp3 | | 1 | 4 | newmp3.mp3 | +---------+-------------+----------------+ What I'd like to be able to get out of these two tables is a result like this : +---------|-----------|----------------|------------|------------+ | trackid | MP3 | ra_low | ra_med | ra_high | +---------|-----------|----------------|------------|------------+ | 1 | mymp3.mp3 | myothermp3.mp3 | busted.mp3 | newmp3.mp3 | +---------|-----------|----------------|------------|------------+ Is there a way to do this completly in SQL? or i could employ PHP to help out.
Pages Are Created On The Fly By Rows...
I have a MySQL database and I want to echo one field (Title) into a page so it can act as a link to that row. When someone clicks the title, I want that row's information to come up. For example Example Title Example Title 2 Example Title 3 User clicks Example Title 2, Example Title 2 | Example Author 2 Example Description. To be displayed. I know this requires "index.php?=". I just don't know what its called and I can't seem to find any tutorials about it. How is it done?:(
Overview Of The Created Databases

Created Date/Time
I would like to keep a row in my record that contains information on when the record was created and one when the record was last updated. What is the easiest way to go about doing this in MySQL?
Table Already Created Error
I'm using mysql v4.x and am using a php script to try and create a mysql table and insert values from an xml source. The script seems fine, but I keep getting an error saying ''table already created'' also the records that it has created in the tables it partially made are duplicated. Any ideas?
Re-created Table Failing
Re-created a table in my database. All field names and values are identical to the original table. Table name is correct too. Now the web-pages will not store data to the table.
Indices Created For Views
I have a view that combines data from 4 tables. Can I create an index for the view? or should the indices created for the original tables speed up searching enough?
Dynamically Created Indexes
I've wandered through previous threads but can't seem to find any info. How realistic and sensible is it to dynamically generate indexes whenever a SQL statement is called? Then de-index that table to allow updates/deletes/inserts?? SO basically, indexes are only generated when information is requested and thus they are disabled for routine maintenance?
