Converting Text Data To Uft-8
I have some old msyql 4.0.20 tables with international characters in text columns. I have moved over to 4.1 and want to convert the data and table/column charsets to utf-8. so far I have done this: mysql> alter table linktexts charset=utf8 mysql> alter table linktexts convert to character set utf8 What would I need to do now to actually convert the data over? I have found this doc which expains how to convert to Byte arrays first, and then over to the required character set, but There's no expanation of how to convert a 'text' column (where you don't necessarily know how many bytes of data need to be converted). Anybody got any ideas on this please? I'm still seeing mojibake on my selects

How To Change Read/write Permission On Mysql Data Base.
I had a total crash and the server guy gave me all my data in a hand basket.. just kidding.. Actually I was given the data all zipped up and the mysql data bases were separate and they were the direct downloads as follows: wp_comments.MYD wp_comments.MYI wp_comments.frm all data was in this format. I used SSH and uploaded it to the proper directory on the server and all is well at least as far as visitors seeing all the data.. but when I log into the site I get the following... WordPress database error: [Table 'wp_options' is read only] UPDATE wp_options SET option_value = 'O:9:"magpierss":18:{s:6:"parser";i:0;s:12:"current_item";a:0:{}s:5:"it ems";a:10:{i:0;a:12:{s:5:"title";s:13:"WordPress 2.2";s:4:"link";s:54:"http://wordpress.org/development/2007/05/wordpress-22/ I used SSH and tried to change the concerned files to writable and it works fine but the same error is generated. I can go direct to the data base using myAdmin and cannot edit (write) to any table. It says the data base is read only. On the same mysql area, I have another data base that was done via the normal way and I can write to it just fine. I can find nothing to change to make the site writeable. Any help here would be greatly appreciated.. SSH to the server and changing the files to writable has no effiect..

Data Import From Text File
When I try to import a text file with new data for an existing table I get the error "1148 - the used command is not allowed with this MySQL version." I have tried with both PHPMyAdmin2.3 and with MySQLFront 2.5. Both these GUI programmes have an "import from text file" command which I have used successfully several times to add entries to this table before - running just this MySQL version. I have structured the data in the text file in just the same format as previously. Both these programmes are connecting to the database successfully now and will display the contents of the existing table data and strcutre of the database etc (despite an earlier connection problem which seems to have been solved spontaneously). But both now deliver exactly this error message (and therefore I assume it is MySQL and not the interface programmes which is doing it).I cannot see that I am doing anything different. I have MySQL 4.0.12 on Windows ME PC with a local Apache server and PHP.
Inserting Data From Text File Question
I have a sql table with about 9 fields of data in it.The first 3 are filled and the last 6 are currently blank. I have a tab delimited .txt file containing data for each of the 9 fields and want to import it in phpmyadmin to both overwrite the existing data in the 3 fields and fill out the other 6. However I only want to import the data where one of the existing filled-out fields "TournamentID" equals 10. But I'm unsure how to do this. Will this work?: SELECT * FROM `tbl_finish_pos` WHERE TournamentID=10 then check every row returned and select the Import tab in phymyadmin to insert the .txt file

Loading Data Into A Table From A Text File
I have a table in MySQL with the columns: "ID, JokeText, JokeCategory, JokeDate" I want to take a text file that is a long list of jokes, and load each joke into a new row of the table in the JokeText field. I have tried a bunch of different approaches, and just can't get it to work right. Can anyone enlighten me? If it helps, here is a sample from the jokes text file (yes, they are stupid :P) Q: What goes up and down but does not move? A: Stairs %% Q: Where should a 500 pound alien go? A: On a diet %% Q: What did one toilet say to the other? A: You look a bit flushed. %% Q: Why did the picture go to jail? A: Because it was framed. %% Q: What did one wall say to the other wall? A: I'll meet you at the corner. %%
Insert File Data Into Text Field
I've built a database locally and have inputed some information. I need to go back and update some records, specifically by taking long pieces of text and putting them into text fields. Cutting and pasting in the command prompt for windows isn't such a good idea. Is there a way to update an existing record by importing a text file into a text field? All the info I'm seeing in the MySQL manual and in these groups is for importing text-deliniated files.
Export Copy Of All Data From Field To Text File..
I would like to export a copy of the contents of one of the fields in my DB to a text file, that I can then access via my normal telnet account. Any ideas on what commands I could use to do this? I've read some of the posts and they refer to "dumps" so maybe this is what I need?
Importing Data Via Text File. Size Limit!
I am running mysql/php on my local machine (xp-pro). I am trying to import a lot of data into the database. I have about 50 thousand records. Here is a example of a recordset. "13-01-103-007","32835 BRUGGEMAN","Warren Consolidated","95380","95380","94160","100.000","60.000","120.000","0.165","0","0","Apartment ","0","1.00","1307","C ","Brick ","1626","399","2","1626","1.00","0","1","1 Story","1980","A " The fields are seperated by "," and enclosed by " "" ". When I use phpmyadmin and limit the insert to about 30 records every thing works fine. But when I try to do the entire batch (50,000) it times out or I get a generic error "page can not be found" . I noticed in phpmyadmin that the limit of file size is 2048kb. Could this be the problem? If so can I increase the size of the file? Mines is 14.9 MB. Or not have it timed out.
LOAD DATA INFILE Command To Import A Text File
I am using the LOAD DATA INFILE command to import a text file into mysql. However, there is much more text in the file than needed in my tables. How can I make a selection from the text line. For example position 5 - 10 in field A, position 20-23 in field B, etc ...

Restore To New Data Base
I am using a heavily modded PHPBB forum and want to convert all my posts, users, etc, into a new PHPBB forum using some other mods. I am using MySQL 3.23.58 . I ran the conversion steps as the creator fo the modded forum stated but at the point where I run the install.php page I get an error that says "installation aborted as table xxxxxx already exists." Is there a way around this like perhaps makign the new tables over write the old tables? I need to keep the tables as they are or I will lose the posts and such.
One Big Data Base Or Many Smaller Ones
I am creating an on-line course and would like to know if it will make a difference in the way I set up my database(s). Option 1 : Create one large Database for the course Here I would prefix the tables with their functions, ie. reg_ quizzes_ forum_ etc. Option 2 : Create a smaller Database for each function Here I would create a registration database, a quizzes database a forum database etc. I do not have my own server, so I would have to get my ISP to create each database, which might be a hassle for them.

I would like to create a link to a different page in a table (pictures of people), again, this should be a hyperlink.

Access Intranet Data Base
I have a db in my intranet, and I need to access the information from my web site which is hosted somewhere else (internet). Whats the best way to do this? Transaction Timeout For Data-base Mutex
I'de like to use transaction locking mechanism as a mutex. I've already succeeded making this work on pgsql. The algo is simple: I open a connection, set lock timeout to whatever i want, start the transaction and try to update a dummy row or create a dummy table (P/semTake of mutex), check if I got the mutex token (affected rows > 0 on update, no error on create table) (if not exit), execute my critical job and finally close the data-base connection causing a roll-back on update or create table (V/semGive of mutex). with MySQL, I haven't found anything to modify the lock timeout. Does someone know?
Moving Data Base From / Var To Home Directory
I'm successfully running MySql under Debian with the data files in /var/lib/mysql. I would like to move the data base files to my home directory and have mysql use them from there. How do I do it? Can I just copy them to my home directory and start mysql with a parameter which point to the new locaion? Can I do that with mysql starting at boot time? I just looked at /etc/init.d/mysql and see that it appears to starts mysql by calling /usr/bin/mysql_safe but there is no such file. As an alternative to putting it in my home directory, I would be happy putting the files in /usr/local. Can I do that without rebuilding mysql? The reason I want to do this is that I want to install a new version of Knoppix and that will format and clean out the / partition and I don't want to loose the data I have in /var/lib/mysql. Could I just save /var/lib/mysql and restore it after installing the new version of the system?
Inserting Text File Into Mysql...
Basically I'm new at this whole databasing thing (shudders) so please forgive me if my description of my problem is a little hodgepodge at best... I use MySQL 4.0.27-standard w/ phpmyadmin... Basically I have a friend doing most of the databasing for me so I'm good with that but he has alluded to something possibly being possible and I'd like to see if you wonderful folk could perhaps solve this. I would basically like to upload a text file like that described below: PHP $$***+++***$$ Famous Person $$$**--**$$$ content content content $$***+++***$$ Famous Person $$$**--**$$$ content content content $$***+++***$$$ Famous Person $$$**--**$$$ content content content $$***+++***$$ etc... So as you can see I could seperate the content in the text file (shown above) by some random string that won't occur elsewhere.... Then I'd like to place all the famous people in one field (.. whatever it's called)... With all the content in the field over from it. So like I'd have field : authors name = Famous Person 1, then field : information = content. This would help so much w/ how fast I could get all the content into my site.. My friend has a degree in cpu programming so he's a smart cookie, but any code, or sources, or any help on how to do this would be appreciated. Also if i left out anything important please just ask..

Tab Delimited Text File Into Mysql
I wish to put a text file into a mysql table. The text file entries are delimitated by tabs. Example: 123 456 7 89 (That is, '123' is a data, '456' is a data but also '7 89' is a single data). What command should I use? I wish to use LOAD DATA INFILE but in wich way? Something like LOAD DATA INFILE "myfile.dat" into table01(a, b, c); would be enought or I'll have only '7' and not '7 89'in row c?
Importing A Text File To MySQL
I've looked at the other issues involving importing a text file and it appears my situation is different. I have a web host which provides me with a MySQL database, however, I also use the MySQL Administrator on my XP PRO machine at home. I use it to log into my account on the web host and can do some work that way. I'd really like to import a text file to a table but I can't figure how to do it.
MySQL Import Text File Too Big?
Our production database in an exported textfil runs about 60 MB. Compressed that's about 9 MB. I'm trying to import the export into another machine running FC3 and mySQL 11.18, and it appears as though the file may be too big! When I try to do it via command line: mysql -u root --host=localhost printing < ./printing.txt It eventually errors out with a "syntax error on line X" and only about half the tables get imported, and MyPHPAdmin GUI interface says it has a 2MB file limit on importing. This concerns me. If something were to happen to our production database, how am I going to restore it? I tried to do a search on mysql.com, but that's a less than helpful site for support. A newsgroup search on the topic didn't come up with much, so maybe I'm just bad at using keywords.
How Can I Load This Text File Into MySQL?
the following are the content of the txt file. It is 2 rows. There are much more rows like these in the txt file. I want to load every 1st line into my database. I used " load data infile ' file path/file name' into tablename fields terminated by ' ' lines starting 'r '; " to load the file. But there is error. I think "V2Dir " of 2nd line make the error. It conflicts with lines starting 'r '. Could somebody give me any solution for loading this text into my database? Code:
What MYSQL Data Type Can Hold Multiline Text Data?
say a file: name#1 (start) line2 line3 ... line14 (end) name#2 .... name299 .... <eof> It's really too messy to split into fields, file process and put it in tabular format. Every 14 lines there's a new "record" - I use the term record very loosely because by record I mean one data item eg. The new "records are separated by name# - so when I see a new name# I know it's a new "record". So in mysql I might have one primary key and just one other filed per a record that would be multiline text. What I an specifically asking is: What MYSQL data type can hold multiline text data?

Inserting Info From A Text File Into A New MySQL DB
I just installed Mambo on my server. I recently had to change servers due to money constraints and I saved my entire DB of content, categories, users, etc. into a SQL file...but when I click the "Insert data from a textfile into table" link and upload the file into different tables, it appears as if it makes no difference. Can somebody help me out? If you respond or send me a pm I can send you the file for you to look at, and maybe you can identify the problem for me. I really appreciate any responses to this issue. I am trying to get the data the exact way it was on my old site without manually putting it all in via the administration backend.
Import Structured Text File Into Mysql
I've a lot of structured files like the following one I would like to import in a mysql database: Message-ID: <417ee59f@mail-ha1> Subject: test From: renu [renu@solicomm.net] Newsgroups: Practice <html> <head> </head> <body> <p> xghdgdfgfgdff </p> <p> xgdsfssdfsdf fsdfsfsdfhdgdfgfgdff </p> </body> </html> I need to import the first 4 rows in 4 columns (messageid, subject, form, newsgroups) and the last part of the text, which is in html, in a 5th colum. The fact is that I'm not sure whether it's possible. Should it be possible, could someone point me to the method/tool that could help me in doing that?

Converting MS Access Dates To MySQL Dates During LOAD DATA INPUT ?
My insert code is below. The MySQL server is on my local machine and is version 4.1.22. I am exporting from an access table with 6 fields to a mysql table with those 6 plus 5 more fields. The main problem I am having SO FAR, is converting dates. The data file dates are formated like: 2/2/2006 0:00:00, 12/20/2006 9:22:05 Any ideas how to format those into mysql friendly dates? Also, how do I convert currency fields in the load data process? I know you use SET by what kind of formula? =========================================== LOAD DATA INFILE 'C:Documents and Settingspath_to_filedata.txt' INTO TABLE auto (field2, field3, field4, field5, currency_field6, field7, date_field8, date_field9) SET id = MD5(UUID()) FIELDS TERMINATED BY ',' LINES TERMINATED BY ' '
Converting Encrypted Binary Data To HEX
I currently do the following to encrypt strings of text that are less than 20 characters - aes_encrypt('mystring', 'mypassword'). This gives me a binary string, which i'll have to store in a blob type field. I'd like to be able to use text or tiny text to store them. So how can I convert this to hex or any other text format (but not like the original string)? Will using hex(aes_encrypt('mystring', 'mypassword')) be OK? Do you see any drawbacks in doing this? What will be getting encrypted is only text strings. Will there be any problems by dong this?

In the directory there are base-bin files. Can you tell what these base-bin files for. I do not think they are neccessary for server but I did not want to delete them without knowing what they really are.
Anyone Using OpenOffice BASE As MySQL Frontend?
I recently saw OpenOffice's Base: "BASE enables you to manipulate database data seamlessly within OpenOffice.org. Create and modify tables, forms, queries, and reports, either using your own database or BASE’s own built-in HSQL database engine. BASE offers a choice of using Wizards, Design Views, or SQL Views for beginners, intermediate, and advanced users ... For more advanced requirements, BASE supports many popular databases database natively (Adabas D, ADO, Microsoft Access, MySQL)" I' am interested to hear anyone's experience with using this as a tool, development tool, or front-end builing tool for MySQL apps.
