I have a problem connecting to sql and can't find anything on the net to solve the problem. I have some sql databases running on a server. when I'm root on the server and I want to login to sql I do "mysql -ustudent -p -Dwordnet30 and it works fine. when I'm logged in with the user account on the server, i get this error message: ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (13) so with the same user name in mysql, i can log on when i'm root, but not when i'm the user. the grant table for the user looks like this: Code:

I just installed mysql on linux. If I open a terminal, su to root, then type "mysql", I am able to connect to the server and run my queries. If I exit out of su so that I am my own id (baisley) and type "mysql", I get this error: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/home/data/mysql/mysql.sock' (13) Any idea why? mysql.sock has full permissions (read/write/execute), so it should be accessable by user baisley. If I am baisley and I run "mysql -u mysql" (as mysql is the user that the RPM set up), it will connect. What I would like to be able to do is run this without having to be user mysql all the time. How do I go about setting that up, or is it better to run all my queries/make tables as 1 user?

I've installed MySQL-4.0.14 under RedHat 8, using both rpm's and compiling from source. When I try to run MySQL, I get the following error: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock' After much searching on Google, and reading many newsgroup threads on this error, as well as reading the manual, I'm still stumped. Most of the advice I've found suggests that the path to mysql.sock is wrong, which makes sense, but I don't have the file mysql.sock anywhere on my machine, so obviously I can't correct the path.

I have downloaded and installed the latest stable versin of MySql. I have followed the install steps and everything went fine. I have then installed phpmyadmin. I modified the config file to add my password for the root user. When I type the following address http://localhost/phpmyadmin to access the index page of phpmyadmin, I get this error message: phpMyAdmin tried to connect to the MySQL server, and the server rejected the connection. You should check the host, username and password in config.inc.php and make sure that they correspond to the information given by the administrator of the MySQL server. Error MySQL said: Documentation #1251 - Client does not support authentication protocol requested by server; consider upgrading MySQL client I double checked the password, it's the one I entered during the install process. We have a MySQL server that was managed by another group in our company, the guy who used to manage that MySQL server has promptly left. Now this server has turned into me. I'm a Microsoft SQL guy, however, the manager doesn't think there is much difference between MSSQL and MYSQL. Now I am in the hot seat to fix a problem that just occurred last week. We're suddenly not able to connect this MySQL server across the network. I checked the network connection, everything looked fine, I was able to telnet into the port 3306. First I thought someone changed the root password, but I was able to connect the server from the local server by using: mysql -h localhost -u root -p Other accounts have the same problem as well. Unable To Connect To MySQL Server On Localhost (10061)
I'm trying to install invision pwr board for friends and family. I've got Apache2Triad on Windows, along with some other services like DC, Vent, Teamspeak (I'm a big gammer). I fill out the information to 'install' invision from the web address, click next and it says cannot connect to MySQL server on localhost (10061). I've created the database but didn't add any tables or anything cuz I don't know what tables to create. Invision doesn't say which tables, just says type in the name of the database. Don't know if my password is wrong (using the one I created at install of apache) or if it's a port issue (installing on host machine) etc... I've also tried to install a few other programs the same way; Bulletin Board, 3 different image hosting programs etc... all say the same thing, can't connect. All have there own databases with no tables (cuz programs doesn't say which tables to create). Code:

I installed the base MySQL 4.0 with Suse Linux and I try and start it and I get anb issue with the fact that mysql.sock file does not exist in /etc..../mysql/mysql.sock I created a file and made sure the owner is mysql. Can anyone share a template for what this file should look like?

I have a production system, that is running away with no problems. However every so often the command line 'mysql' seems to be unable to connect to the main server running. It complains it can't find the file. Now here is the rub; the file is there; it has the correct permissions. Now before any smart-a**e says to restart MySQL server, i can't. Its a production site and therefore i don't wish to restart it. So the question is, how does one recreate this file on a live system? And second question is why does it lose the file in the first place?

Problem With 'mysql.sock' File
I installed mysql 5.0 on redhat 9.0 from source (tar). The whole procedure occured properly, i could do ./mysqld_safe. But when i want to start the client: mysql, i get :error 2002: cannot connect to mysql server through 'tmp/mysql.sock'. I set /tmp with the sticky bit, because otherwise file 'mysql.sock' woukd be deleted !?. I also created 'my.cnp into /etc, but my problem is that there is no file 'mysql.sock'. I recompiled it again (make, make install) but still no file 'mysql.sock' anywhere.

I installed mysql on both of my mac machines running 10.3.9 and 10.4.1. Everything was fine when I installed mysql. Then I shut down both mysql and my computers. I've downloaded the MySQL 4.1 package for MacOS X.3 and things seem to be running, although I did have to manually run the mysql_install_db script as it didn't seem to run properly during install. Anyhow the PrefPane keeps telling me that the database server is running but when I try to connect using XOOPS or even an SQL GUI like Cocoa MySQL I cannot connect. I can login as root using the command line: mysql -u root -p and I can create databases and drop databases and tables etc but no external app can connect such as XOOPS or Cocoa MySQL using the same login details. In my dev environment I'm running MySQL on Windows XP and it works fine. I can connect from other pc's on my lan no problem. At the customer however we are hosting the DB on a Linux box. Clients are running XP. When we try to connect we get the error: System.Exception: "Unable to connect to any of the specified MySQL hosts" I am using the .Net connector 5.1.4.0 The MySQL DB on the Linux box is MySql 4 We're administering via phpMyAdmin. We've tried changing firewall settings disabling etc to no avail. experimented with ports etc no help. I am used to a MS Server 200x and MS SQL environment so this is all new to me. Do I need to configure the DB or something to alow remote connections from within the LAN or something? I didn't set up the DB so I am not sure what configurations were specified?

I just setup my RedHat 9.0 server and have it preconfigured for MySQL, Apache and PHP. I am able to connect to mySQL using a GUI client from my my LAN (192.168.1.xx), but unable to connect from a remote site. I have my linksys router configured to forward any requests for port 3306 to my redhat linux IP. I thought it would be also important to mention that I am able to connect to my Apache webpage remotely. i have a php application which successfully connects to mysql and interacts with the database. I am using apache as my web server. Im wondering is it possible to connect through my mysql db (running on fedora core 4) and access the ms access tables on the ms access server? I have a connection setup the other way around using an odbc bridge, is it possible to do this the other way around enabling me to view / edit the access tables through mysql.

Using MS Access, I have attached to MySQL servers in other states and other countries on the other side of my router. But when I use the MySQL ODBC driver 3.51 to connect to a MySQL server on my own LAN, the driver tells me it cannot make the connection. MYSQL Connect File
I have a flash file which is a game. It keeps score. The add score and display score php files need to be directed to MYSQL database and the the MYSQL connect file needs to be connected to MYSQL. I can not for the life of me figure out what I am doing wrong and I have been going at this all day. I have enclosed in a zip file the three php files (add_scores, display_scores and the MYSQL connect file and also a text document with the MYSQL username/password/host info. If you need the open source game flash file i can email it to you.

I've installed MySQL 4.1.8-win on my win XP system as guided by the installer. Most of the setup was default. I'm running the server on the local machine. But everytime I try to connect to the server through the command prompt or the MySQL administrator program, I'm faced with the following error: ERROR 2003 (HY000): Can't connect to MySQL server on 'localhost' (10061) I can't find anything wrong going. Previously I used MySQL 31.23.53, but never faced this sort of problem. One thing can go wrong is that the port number being wrong. By default it's probably 3306. I'm not sure what else would fit in there.

I use function mysql_real_connect to connect to MySQL Server at C program under Linux. When I run it in chrooted environment, function mysql_real_connect fails with error "Transport endpoint is not connected". Without chrooted environment everything works normally. i just installed mysql and when i tried to create a test database, this error occured. error: can't connect to MySQL server on 'localhost' <10061>' check that mysqld is running on localhost and that the port is 3306 you can check this by doing 'telnet localhost 3306'. i did just that but telnet couldn't connect either. should i change the port for mysql to listen in to? and change it to what?ive search the forums and tried looking for a .err file in the data folder but there isn't any. help anyone?

I am setting up MySQL on a development box. I have set it up and can connect from localhost, but I cannot connect from another computer on the network. I have narrowed down the problem quite a bit, but can't quite figure it out still. I am getting MySQL Error Number 2003 "Can't connect to MySQL server on 'server'. I know that the server is there because I can ping it. I am also running a webserver from that computer and I am able to access that just fine. I know that it is not a rights issue because if you try to connect with a user that doesn't have rights, MySQL will respond "Access denied for user: 'user@host' (Using password: YES)". I checked on the host machine and check that the following are true: - mysqld.exe is in the process list (in the task manager) - MySQL is running on port 3306 (the one I'm trying to access it from)

I tried to connect to the MySQL Server on 192.168.115.12 on local network, then I got the message that i am not allowed to connect to that MySQL Server, but when I try to connect to localhost, it works. What do I have to do that I can connect to 192.168.115.12(It IS my own PC with the MySQL Server installed and runing)?
