Mysql Client Dont Write Russian Characters

I installed MySQL 5.0.24 and have so problem.I can't type russian characters in mysql client. Database has data in koi8 encoding (from dump, from php form...) and this data correctly shown. But when I switch encoding to russian in mysql client cursor stops moving independent from my keys pressing, when switch it return to English and typing continued. For example,I enter: select fld from tbl where fld="russ",if "russ" in koi8 I cann't type this characters.
It is possible type russian characters from OS command line: mysql -p -e "select fld from tbl where fld='russ'" dbname. In this case whole query text will be entered and correctly executed.
If anybody know how possibly decide this problem write me please.
My OS is ALTLINUX 3.0 : LANG=ru_RU.KOI8-R

How To Enter Iso-8859-2 Characters Through Command Line Client?
We're trying enter polish language into mysql. My understanding is that
polish language uses iso-8859-2 character set. I am cutting and pasting
polish text from a web browser (Konqueror) into the mysql command line client
running in a terminal window (konsole). MySQL server is version 4.0.12
running on a remote Linux server that I have connected to with ssh.

When I paste polish characters into the command line client using a very
simple insert statement a lot of characters are being lost or converted to a
question mark (?) ... I believe this is happening to all non-ascii
characters. The database server must support both English and Polish so
anything that we do must be specific to the individual database (at the
most).

I have tried passing various options to the command line client, here is an
example (line split for readability):

mysql --character-sets-dir=/usr/share/mysql/charsets
--default-character-set=latin2 -u user -p database

I have also tried playing with Linux locale settings by starting mysql like
this:

LC_ALL=polish mysql --character-sets-dir=/usr/share/mysql/charsets
--default-character-set=latin2 -u user -p database

Nothing quite seems to work. What does work fine is inserting the characters
through a web interface. As well as in my purely Linux environment, we also
need this to work when on a Microsoft Windows based desktop.

Client Does Not Support Authentication Protocol Requested By Server; Consider Upgrading MySQL Client In
I have recently upgraded to MySQL 5. Got this error message in my IE Browser. Have read some of the comments on other forums and my choices are: Upgrade all client programs to use a 4.1.1 or newer client library, or

SET PASSWORD FOR
-> 'some_user'@'some_host' = OLD_PASSWORD('newpwd')

Can someone please advise?

Mysql_connect(): Client Does Not Support Authentication Protocol Requested By Server; Consider Upgrading MySQL Client

I am trying this from a long time and do not find a way to fix this problem
I request you guys to help me in soughting this out and I appreciate your patience in reading my post.

Mysql_connect(): Client Does Not Support Authentication Protocol Requested By Server; Consider Upgrading MySQL Client
I am having an awkward problem with my MySQL installation. I have a number of scripts that access the database from a few different web hosting sites. I have no problem accessing the database from the scripts that I host locally. The scripts that are on an outside server accessing the database gives me a mysql_connect() error.

Locally I use MySQL 5.0 and PHP 5.0. I am assuming that the 3rd party web host uses an older version of PHP and thinking that may be the problem. Is this the possible problem and if so is there a way to fix it without ruining the scripts that are currently working?

Russian Language (win-1251) At Export MySQL 4.1
I have a problem with mysql back-up of my site. At site is present the material in russian language (the coding WIN-1251). Presently, hosting company has done upgraid MySQL bases to version 4.1.

The Site works orderly, but when making back-up bases (Export), in the base are absent the symbols in russian language. At export of the base through PHPMYADMIN , the situation a bit better, some cyrilic symbols are seen, but not all. How it is correct to do the MySQL export to were seen cyrilic symbols?

Search And Write, Or Write And Recover?
The problem: I need to generate a 'unique string' for each row in a table. I already use auto_increment for system dependencies between tables.

What is the best approach one of these or another?

After generating a candidate 'unique string' the two strategies that came to mind are:

1. to then search the table's column to see if it is already assigned; locking the table for write while searching and writing the new row, or

2. set the column to UNIQUE when defining the table. Just go ahead and write the new row if you get a "non-unique" exception, generate another 'unique string' and try again.

I've tried both on a small XP laptop and get "lock timeout exceptions" rather quickly using #1. But replace those with lots of re-writes when there starts to get "collisions" of 'unique string's.

Dont Have An Error File
I have problems setting up the server. When trying to start it it gives me Error 0 and when I look for my error logfile in the data directory I don't find one. In the manual it is written that it should be there unless you tell the server to put it somewhere else but I didn't do this.

Unicode For Russian
I just wanted to insert Russian data in my database but while I insert it it get inserted easily, since I believe the data is inserted in the default format i.e. UTF-8 Unicode (utf8) i believe this is the default format but when i select it from database i could not get what was desired what is the solution for this, I am using Php as server side language.I get? as a result of select and while i look it in phpadmin the result is the same, is this the browser problem...which is not supporting the font.

Saving Text In Russian
I have a table with a field that is to save text in Russian. The text is
then retrieved by a PHP page. I run a query passing text in windows-1251
encoding, but when I retrieve it from the db, it shows up all wrong.
Does anyone know what the problem is?

Dont Display Record After Date Has Passed
Lets say I am making a site that has upcoming birthdays of a whole lot of people, and I want to display only the birthdays that have not happened yet (ie where birthday > current date).

What I do not know, is what format I must enter the date into; at the moment I am just using a char type in my MySQL database and entering it as : 26/03 (or what ever). Also, how would I get the current date and compare it to this date?

Storing Russian Text In Table
I am using MySQL 4.0.20a. A russian user enters text in a HTML-textfield and POSTs & inserts through a PHP-script (php v.5). In what encoding is it stored in mysql? To me, it doesn't look russian but like this:

Âûïîëíèòü çàäàíèå

Is this format OK to store in? If I want to use the text into another page (and select from mysql), do I have to store it in any encoding?

How To Write This In MySQL?

Why Dont Shared Hosting Accounts Provide Stored Procedures And Triggers?
i am searching for 3 days now for a reliable, fast hosting company, which supports stored procedures and triggers on mysql5. most of them dont support this, because mysql5 has a design-flaw in which it stores procedures and triggers on a root level-area (tables mysql information_schema). due this logic, most of the hosting companies wont allow you to create/run procedures and triggers. funny, that hosting companies forbid you to use new technologies and methods to build faster.

MySql Write Vs Read
Essentially I am faced with a design choice;

have an oft run (modifiable) query run every time any user wants to
run it, comparing criteria againt each and every user in the table and
delviering list OR saving that list (user/user/) so the next time all
that needs to be queried is the existence of a record in the table.

The basic tradeoff; version 1 there are many simultaneous queries of
the user db on complex search criteria; version 2 there are fewer but
their are as many far more simple queries to a much larger table, not
to mention many writes to same to keep the table current.

I know this is pretty vague, but I was wondering if in general there
is an area that mysql excels in vis a vis complex query smaller tables
simple query larger tables.

Question 2 is there anyway to guestiate the search/write times of a
user log in to both query and update? #Records, fields, etc? I'd like
to keep log in to < 10 seconds max.

Vita And Write In MySQL
My web site use a odbc to a MySQL database. I create it on XP and it's worked but I'm now on vita and the data base on a 2003 server. All the reading access on the database are ok but all the writing access are denied. I haven't error message just error 500 on ie7.

Write/Move/Save Pdf To MySQL Table?
Is upload the only way to pass a file to a table?

I have a contract.pdf which is generated via php (FPDF) and saved in a temporary file. I need that file then moved /written to the appropriate customer table in our database (MySQL ) so that the temporary file may then be overwritten by the next Customer/Order.

While I am able to upload the file via <input type="file" name="uploadpdf> and related uploader.php, asking our web-users to “browse” for the file does not suit our needs, and of course adding a default value

<input type="file" name="uploadpdf" value="http://localhost/crm/modules/Orders/contract.pdf"> doesn’t work either.

As the file is always the same (modules/Orders/contract.pdf) how may I manage that move automatically, (say with a ‘Confirm Order’ button) to the database?

How To Change Read/write Permission On Mysql Data Base.
I had a total crash and the server guy gave me all my data in a hand basket.. just kidding..

Actually I was given the data all zipped up and the mysql data bases were separate and they were the direct downloads as follows:
wp_comments.MYD
wp_comments.MYI
wp_comments.frm
all data was in this format.
I used SSH and uploaded it to the proper directory on the server and all is well at least as far as visitors seeing all the data.. but when I log into the site I get the following...

WordPress database error: [Table 'wp_options' is read only]
UPDATE wp_options SET option_value = 'O:9:"magpierss":18:{s:6:"parser";i:0;s:12:"current_item";a:0:{}s:5:"it ems";a:10:{i:0;a:12:{s:5:"title";s:13:"WordPress 2.2";s:4:"link";s:54:"http://wordpress.org/development/2007/05/wordpress-22/

I used SSH and tried to change the concerned files to writable and it works fine but the same error is generated.

I can go direct to the data base using myAdmin and cannot edit (write) to any table. It says the data base is read only.

On the same mysql area, I have another data base that was done via the normal way and I can write to it just fine.

I can find nothing to change to make the site writeable.

Any help here would be greatly appreciated..

SSH to the server and changing the files to writable has no effiect..

Mysql Master/Slave Read Write To Database Question
If I setup my database as master/slave and user enters data into the html form. This data is written to the master database. After html form submission user is directed to view.html to view the submitted data. The view.html page does the read from the slave. Would it be safe to assume that the data that user submitted would be written to master and immediately displayed in the view.html by reading slave data base?

MySql OUTFILE, ERROR 1 (HY000): Can't Create/write To File
I have problems in exporting tables to a file in MySql using OUTFILE option. MySql machine is a remote one. I got the error

Delete Rows From Table A, Which Dont Exist In Table B (base On Column X)
I have 2 tables identically structured.

A & B

Table A, has column: Product (product code) as primary key

Table B doesn't.

Apart from that they have the exact same fields.

There's also a column: supplier

I want to

Delete * from table A, where does not exist in B (based on column: Product) & where supplier = apples

So to elaborate. Table A is my main table, but it now contains outdated products from supplier apple. Table B has the latest list of products from supplier apple. So I want to remove old products from A that supplier apple no longer makes.

MySQL Client
Where can i get a good MySQL Client?

Mysql Client V5.0.21
Basically if I type a command in mysql and then try to reuse it by pushing the up arrow, most of the time a segmentation violation will occur.

Mysql Client
Is there any option of formatting the columns of tables so that for
example only 5 characters of each column is displayed?(also is there
any way to set no wrapping)
That is in order to get a proper output of tables in a win98 DOS
prompt.
I know that Oracle SQL gives you such options.

VB And Mysql:client
i wanna conn VB 6 to a mysql 4.1 database using mysql odbc driver 3.51 on windows XP. this conn is done usin ADODB. however on executing i get the following error:
"client does not recognise authentication protocol requested by server, please consider upgradin mysql."
upgradin to 5.0 is senseless. it is a godown of bugs

Installing MySQL Client
I'm sure this is a really noob thing to be asking....

I have MySQL and PHP installed onto my web hosting server and it's running fine. Now, my problem is that I can't figure out how to access it from my computer.

I'm mainly using Frontpage (because that's the program that everything was built on before I was hired) to build the websites. What is the easiest way to be able to start using this database?

Client Character Set In MySQL 4.1.10
I have a problem with character set client and connection in MySQL 4.1.10. I have all tables in cp1250_czech_cs collation and I have set a global session character_set_client, character_set_connection and character_set_result to cp1250. When I make a connection to the database in PHP (mysqli_connect();) and execute a query SHOW SESSION VARIABLES; it return that character_set_client, character_set_connection and character_set_client is set to latin1.

What can I do, when I want to set this variables to cp1250 as default? (and not use SET NAMES cp1250; in each script).

My OS is Win XP SP2 and Win 2000, Mysql version 4.1.10-nt, PHP version 5.0.3

MySQL Client Ran Out Of Memory
I'm using a mysql server with my own TCP/IP server on the same FreeBSD machine.
MySQL stores a users database, like logins and passwords.

It works fine for a couple of days, but after that my simple queries with one row of result stops working.

It says "MySQL Client ran out of memory".
If I connect to mysql using other tools or simply restart my server - it works fine again under the same queries. So please don't support I use a huge amount of data, whole database can be selected in one query under normal conditions, its pretty small.

My Server Info:

sr10# mysql --version
mysql Ver 14.7 Distrib 4.1.16, for portbld-freebsd5.4 (i386) using 4.3

MySql Client 3.51 Through Proxy
OK I am working with an external company that has opened a DB for us to attach to. There documentation has you install My Sql 3.51 driver. I have all the login info and server address correct but it fails to connect. We do have a firewall here but I see no place in the System DSN to reference it. Do I need something else to make the work with a firewall?

Table Rows Inserted By Embeddded MySQL Cannot Be Retrieved By MySQL Tcp Client
I have encountered a weird behavoir of embedded MySQL. Through a
simple program I made (in Delphi 6), I can insert rows to a table
through embedded MySQL and I can retrieve the rows from my program.

But using mysql.exe which points to the same table (through 127.0.0.1,
with the same basedir and datadir), I cannot see the rows I inserted
using my embedded program. Another way around, the rows inserted by
mysql.exe can be seen in my embedded program. But after a row is
inserted by mysql.exe, the rows inserted by the embedde program are
deleted (or cannot be queried).

Can anybody explain why is this? Is there a way to fix it?

MySQL Client Library? Where Can I Find It?
I'm trying to get an emailing program to work with mysql using ODBC on Windows and i've run into a couple of issues. I used the installer found on the mysql website and the mysqld-nt.exe process is running. I can also run the "mysql" command to create users, run queries, all the usual stuff. My first issue is that the icewarp email program shows me an error that reads "Mysql client library not found". Does anyone know where this file could be located? I used the default directory during my installation. on the mysql website it said to run "mysql_config --libs" to find where my client library is, but this program is no where to be found in the installation. The mysql website says :

"You should be able to solve this problem by adding -Ldir_path -lmysqlclient at the end of your link command, where dir_path represents the pathname of the directory where the client library is located."

when i have the path.. do i enter those options in the text field after i right click -> properties mysqld-nt.exe?

PHP4: How To Upgrade MySQL Client To V4?
Clean install of:
PHP 4.4.2
MySQL 4.1.21

Problem: phpinfo() shows the MySQL client to be 3.23.49.

I want my dev environment to match my hosts, so upgrading to PHP5 and/or MySQL5 is not an option.

So how do I upgrade the MySQL client in PHP to 4.x?

I tried the MySQL PHP connector page ( http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/connector/php/ ) , but it only lists downloads for PHP5. (which I tried anyway, but can't get to work)

Where Is The MySQL Command Line Client?
I have installed the XAMPP package on my computer, which contains appache php and mysql. however I don't know how to create a database with the command line client in mysql or even where to type the code required to set up a new database. Not a very interesting question, but it's vital i get an answer if i am to start learning.

VB + MySQL Client Server Application
I would like to know about what the most important things to be installed in every workstation if I will used VB and MySQL using the ODBC driver. Is there a need to install VB, MySQL, ODBC Driver in all computers? If possible can you give simple snippets in configuring MySQL and ODBC in VB code.

MySQL Command Line Client
I have just installed MySql Server 5 on my Windows XP pc. When I start up the MySql Command Line Client, I type in the password and then the command line comes up.
I create a database and then type use database:

I then run the command source C;jt.sql. This drops tables if they are there and then creates the tables and inserts data. Once this has completed, I can then selet from the tables. For instance there is a table called users.

If I type 'select * from users;' It comes back with the results and 2 row in set. This is fine however as soon as I exit from the MySql Command Client and come back in then I use database and show tables. There are no tables in there.

My question is this, why are the data and tables not staying in the database? I have tried commiting but it makes no difference.

MySQL Administrator Client Installation
Can MySQL administrator installed on a client machine which has no MySQL database installed?

We have two MySQL installation on Linux. I want to check things from my desktop which is Windows via some graphical administration software.

Any possibility? When I try to connect one of the server I got error. Admin tool added my computer's domain suffix after the user name which I typed in...

Data Entry Client For MySQL
I need a terminal (client) to connect to the server to enter data and view tables (as customised reports). ie this is not for administrating the database, this will be for an end-user.

I dont want to use a web browser, I want to use something like a terminal. It can be of simple blue screen DOS, AS400 like nature.

MySQL Command Line Client
I have had a quick search on the net to a solution for this one but show far have had no luck.At the moment I have a large stored procedure which I am writing in textpad and copying it into the ms-dos style window. My problem is that because the stored procedure is pretty large not all of the code is being displayed in the window, and therefore not always showing me my error. Is there a way to increase the amount of data that is displayed in the window? I have looked in the properties but can't see ay options related to history. Also is it possible in windows for mysql to remember your queries (by using the up arrow key) when you close the window like what happens on Linux?

Apps Use MySQL Server Or Client Version?
I am using a shared hosting setup and I'm trying to figure out which version of MySQL my applications are actually using. My host tells me that the MySQL server is running version 4.1.16, but when I do a phpinfo it shows client version 5.0.16. Since some scripts don't support MySQL 5, I am trying to clarify which version my applications would actually use. Any ideas?
