i have uninstalled mysql to put it on a different drive soon
The old mysql stayd in Services and I dunno how to remove it from administrative services?
Mysql is not installed atm i will install it soon
in other words how do I remove from administartive services once i uninstall the whole thing.

Forgot MySQL Username
When securing down the Windows 2003 server that I use for MySQL I followed the advice of dev.mysql.com and changed the root username to something else. Under step 12 for securing your windows box for MySQL it states to do the following command. mysql> USE mysql; Database changed mysql> UPDATE user SET user='bob' WHERE user='root'; Query OK, 1 row affected (0.19 sec) Rows matched: 1 Changed: 1 Warnings: 0 mysql> FLUSH PRIVILEGES; Query OK, 0 rows affected (0.23 sec) I changed my username (while forgetting to write it down before I hit enter), and hit enter. The list of commands above show that I should have gotten back a response and still would have been able to see what username I typed. But that isn't what happened. For some amazing reason the command prompt closed and the commands must have completed, because now I can't get into MySQL anymore. So is there a way that I can go about finding out what the h*** I typed? If not, can I do anything to undo, or reset the username? If I have to reinstall that is fine, but I'm not sure how to do that without losing all my data.

Windows SQL Services And Removing MySQL
I had installed mySQL when a programmer wanted to use it for a project. Then i uninstalled it. Now the MS SQL services (SQLserver, sql server activation directory helper, sql server browser, and sql server vss writer), cannot be started. The error messages seem to indicate that there are some files missing in order to run the services. I tried to re-install MySQL, but not it is giving me error zero when i run the configurator.

Forgot My Root Password
I installed MYSQL 5.1.30 on vista home prem SP1 as a service several weeks ago and I've forgotten the root password. - I've uninstalled MYSQL using Control Panel uninstall - I reinstall with setup.exe then during config with wizard I get an error that the root password doesn't match. Misplaced (or Forgot...) Root Password, Now What?
I setup Apache 2 and MySQL 5 on my MacBook Pro (Mac Os X 10.4.9) but ran into problems with PHP 5 so I kinda forgot about it for a couple weeks. I finally sat down and got PHP 5 up and running correctly but now I can't seem to remember my password for the user "root". What's the easiest way to reset or change this? Stock Database Design
i'm looking to make a "simple" stock database for a growing list of stocks (say adding maybe 20 or so each day). the thing is, i'm not sure how to design this database considering the potential size of it in the future. should i make a table with 'stock symbol,' 'date,' and 'stock price' columns and then add new rows for each new day and stock symbol? (so i'd have multiple stock symbols and a ton of repeating dates in the date fields) or, should i make a table with 'stock symbol' and make every column a date? so each row would have 'stock' 'date' 'date+1' 'date+2'... and the prices would be under each date. the only thing is i think making new columns would be a huge pain compared to just adding rows. i think.

Can't Remove MySQL Service On Win XP
I am trying to reinstall MySQL on a Win XP pro box. After uninstalling MySQL 3.x, a 'MySQL' service is left in the list of services. Remove MySQL Completely
how to completely remove MySQL from my system? I upgraded to 5.0.15 a while back and just started to create new tables and I started getting some InnoDB error. Through a search I found some .exe's of MySQL had faulty engines or something like that. So I tried to upgrade to 5.0.18 and now I can't get anything at all. It keeps telling me I have to open a port, that it cannot connect, that my passwords are wrong. Every possible fix I try to do is not working and it's beyond pissing me off right now. I want to take everything off my system and start fresh. I'm getting too damn tired of wasting my time trying to figure out fixes. I've reconfigured instances, opened ports, done everything I possibly can except remove everything. I want it all gone!!! I want to start absolutely fresh. Can anyone lead me in the right direction please? I'm using XP w/ PHP and Apache. No, it is not XP, PHP, or Apache because like I said, it was working fine before I tried the upgrade.

Can't Remove Old MySQL Instance
Each time I use the MySQL Server Instance Config Wizard it either locks up and stops responding entirely, or it shows that it has removed the instance when in fact it hasn't. I had an old installation of MySQL 4.1.12 and I just clean installed MySQL 5.0.18. I uninstalled the old MySQL 4.1 software beforehand using Add/Remove Programs. I am on Windows XP SP 2.

I installed MySQL ver 4.0.20d on a Windows XP Professional PC. I created a user and database that I would like to delete, and at this point I would just like to uninstall MySQL and do a fresh installation. Completely Remove MySQL From OS X (Tiger) ?
I started out with the V5 beta of MySQL and got it installed. Successfully installed the MySQL Admin tool and could connect to the database. I then tried to create a new database and set of tables and it didn't work. At that point, it just hung with the spinning beach ball. ;-) Every time I try and connect now, I get the error: Could not connect to MySQL instance at localhost. Error: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock' (61) (code 2002). Having searched the MySQL site, I can find similar errors but not the (61) (code 2002) specifics (did find sometihng on the (2) error code. If I open the "MySQL Preference Pane", it shows that the MySQL instance is running but the button shows "Start MySQL Server". I've looked and don't see mysqld running in the processes. Clicking the Start MySQL Server button does not change anything. I've tried going in as root (sudo) and deleting all the MySql files/folders that I can find thinking I might be able to delete everything and reinstall. After doing so, when I run the installer again, the option is to "upgrade". If i do this, it shows a successful install/upgrade but no luck connecting. I've checked the /tmp/ folder and mysql.sock is in the folder. So, I know I've really wonked up this installation. how to completely remove the installation so that I can start again? I've tried the "remove-old-mysql.sh" utility without luck.

MySQL Order By Title, But Remove 'The', 'A', 'An'
I have a bunch of titles in a database and I want to have mysql select them all and place them in alphabetical order. The only problem is that some titles start with the, a, and 'an', which obviously need to be accounted for. Design For Stock Items And Checkin/checkout Process (was "Query Help")
I'm currently in the process of trying to bodge together a simple(ish) stock system to be used on a company intranet but I've ground to a halt with a particular problem. Using a MySQL database I've got tables with 11 fields, including 'Quantity' (self explanatory) and BookOut. Now this BookOut field contains information on the user who has booked out an item including the users name, the date/time etc The problem I have is this. If an item has a quantity of 7 and a user books out 1, then his/her info is stored in BookOut but when another user books out another 1 of said item at a later stage then the previous BookOut info is overwritten. Remove User But Still Can Log In
I use the command to create a user and grant all privileges to this user, then I delete this user from the user table but I can log in use this user. Why ? grant all privileges on *.* to john@"%" identified by 'john' I then delete the user 'john' from the user table in mysql database. But then I tried to log in using this user successfully.

There are 2 tables, players and teams. A bunch of the teams were removed from the database by someone else (most of them were invalid records).However there are players still in the database who have a teamID column which refers to the ID of a team that doesn't exist anymore. Remove With Replace
I have a problem with apostrophes. I accidentally imported a ton of data that included apostrophes and need to remove them from my database (they are messing things up when the info comes back out again). I have tried these commands, update `st_galleries` set `text_description` = replace (text_description,"'",""); update `st_galleries` set `text_description` = replace (text_description,char(39),""); update `st_galleries` set `text_description` = replace (text_description,"char(39)",""); And each time mysql does not seem to see the ' character and comes back with all matches but no changes. Remove '@-prefixed' Variable

Remove Duplicates From DB Tables
[ID] (an autonumber) [Date] (YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM:SS) [Title] (255 character text) [xcount] (Numeric) What I want to do is delete the duplicate posts. They are duplicate ONLY if [title] is the same, and the [Date] is within 3 days of each other. I want to delete the lower numbered posts, or those with the lowest [xcount].

Remove Whitespace From Database
I have a table of book descriptions that contains a massive amount of whitespace at the end of each row (75,000 rows). The resulting table is 495 MB. I couldn't figure out how to get rid of this space when I imported from the original text file. I can RTRIM the data when I run a query, but how do I actually remove the whitespace from the database. The only thing I can think to do is to run a query on the table with RTRIM, export the results, delete the original table, and import the table that I exported earlier.
