Can't Connect Over Network
I have mysql 4.0.16 on my windows machine and have just installed suse linux on another machine. It comes with mysql 4.0.15. After I got the user setup I was able to use the mysql client on the windows machine to connect to mysql on the linux machine I even used mysqldump piped to mysql to dump a database to the new server. But now I can't seem to login anymore. I don't think I changed any settings on the linux machine so I am at a loss as to why I am getting this error. ERROR 2013: Lost connection to MySQL server during query That happens immediately after I type in mysql -h 192.168.1.2 -u cdw -pxxxxxx and hit enter.

Connecting Over A Network How?
What I actually really want to do is to access my MySQL database running on Linux from C# programs running on Windows on the same network. As a first step, I am simply trying to connect to my MySQL database on Linux computer A from another Linux computer B using the mysql console program from a shell window like this: mysql -h 10.0.1.130 -u username The IP address of the computer A is 10.0.1.130. For some reason I seem to be missing something in the configuration because I get this error: ERROR 2003 (HY000): Can't connect to MySQL server on '10.0.1.130' (113)

Connectivity Across The Network
I have read many postings about limiting connectivity and security. I would simply like to be able to connect my jdbc java applet to my mysql database. I can connect when I run the browser from the same machine as both the web server and mysql db and then set jdbc driver code for URL to 'localhost' or '127.0.0.1' and everything seems to work fine. COnnects, applet works, I can read and write data, etc. But when I set the JDBC code URL to '192.168.1.3' (the IP address of my machine) and try to access this, I cannot connect to the database at all from any machine. How do I allow connections to mysql from something that is not localhost or is on another machine?

Mysql On Local Network
Is there a way to share mysql on a local network? Both computers running IIS on Windows XP Pro. Both have php running, but using a root website folder on another computer (main server). Can't Connect Over Local Network
I have installed MySQL on 2 machines on my network, on an XP machine and on an eMac. Using CocoaMySQL on the emac I can connect to data on the XP machine. But when I try to connect to data on the eMac using MySQL Control Center on the XP machine, I get this alert popping up: Critical ERROR 1130: Host '10.0.1.2' is not allowed to connect to this MySQL serve (sic) So, the error on the XP box says that the XP box is a host not allowed to connect to "this" presumable what I had entered as the IP of the eMac (10.0.1.3).

MySQL And Network Appliance
I was reading about The DataWare 2600 appliance from PogoLinux but that device was made back in 2003. I have a client server application that gathers computer information and uses that info in a database to deploy new pc's. Today I use Microsoft SQL 2005 database. It would be nice if I could use a Network Appliance running MySQL and Linux embedded rather that a traditional Microsoft server with SQL 2005. Are there any network appliance products available today that run MySQL with Linux embedded. I searched the web and couldn't find any vendors that offer this solution. Is there anything like this out in the market? My next question is how hard would it be to convert the database and queries from Microsoft SQL 2005 to MySQL?

Server On The Local Network
I am new to mySQL and am studing computer sciences. For a project we need to create a database, upload it to server provided by the university and access the database via an application from any computer on the university network. My question is how do I upload the sql file to the server?? I tested the database on my pc(localhost) and it worked. Now I tried to upload it onto the server. I did the following: opened command prompt and went to the mysql monitor. I entered the command: mysql -h (the server address) -u (username) -p Then I pressed enter and entered the password I got a massage that said that I am connected to the server. Now I don't know what to do. I have the sql file that needs to be uploaded to the sever, but I am not familiar with sql commands. I have searched on google, but nothing they gave me worked.

Logging On From Network Workstation
Having trouble logging on to the server from a workstaion on the network. Have added myself as a global user and the workstation as a host. MySql is listening on port 3306 but I can't make a connection. Allow ONLY Local Network Access
I know how to enable networking in mysql through tcp/ip. But what if I only want to allow connections only from our office in lan? I want to be able to share all the databases in the server, with all the local computers (192.168.1.xxx) without having to grant permissions to each user/host individually.

Server - Network Access
I'm developing a database application using MySql(version 5.1) & QT. In my application, a server machine contains the database & users connect to it using my application over the network. My question is using the user name & password given & using a third party mysql client, my users can connect to database & do whatever according to the privileges granted to their account.It is potentially dangerous in my case. Is there any method in MySql Server to limit clients to connect using only a specified application? In my case, users should be able to connect only using my application & they must not be able to connect using any other clients.

Connecting To Database Over Network
I have a couple computers under one domain. I installed a MySQL database on my secondary computer and want to be able to access the information from that database on my primary computer. Both computers are able to share files, no problem there, but when I try to connect to my secondary computer from my primary, it times out and says "Can't connect to mysql server on 'second computer';" I had this working before but for some reason I can't get it to work now. Any ideas of what I'm missing here? Also I'm using MySQLcc so it makes it a little easier for me. I've even created a second user account for the MySQL database on my secondary computer so I'm not trying to connect to through the root user. (For example purpose, my secondary is called second and primary is call first...) From my primary computer, I try to connect using this.. Hostname: second User: user1 password: **** And it times out when I try this. If I put this into my secondary computer it connects no problem.

MySql Replication And Network Speed
We purchased 2 new HP DL385 servers that will be used for MySQL 5 in a replication environment. Server 1 (Master) is connected gigabit to our Cisco 3550 core switch The Cisco 3550 core switch is connected gigabit over fiber to a Cisco 3548 switch in another building. Server 2 (Slave) is connected to the Cisco 3548 on a 100MB switched port. My question is whether or not the 100MB connection is going to be good enough to do replication, or if I have to invest in getting gigabit all the way to the slave server?

MySQL On A Network Drive Error
I want to install the current version 4.0.13 of MySQL on a Win2000 machine in a directory different to the default (C:mysql). It should be a network drive, as this is backed up by our IT staff. I install the package using setup.exe and selecting "Custom" but just clicking OK on the following dialogue. As directory I selected something like "H:....MySQL_4.0.13". The package is installed correctly. I can install the service (mysqld --install) and see it in the Service catalogue of Win2K. However, when I want to run the service with "net start mysql" an error occurs: System error 65 has occured. Network access is denied. I checked the security settings on the directories, but I had the change priviledges. Setting them to "full access" didn't improve the situation. MySQL only works when I install it entirely on C:. What am I missing here? I would like the installation to reside on a network drive for the reasons outlined above.

Social Network Database Design Help
I'm using PHP and SQL to write a social networking-type site, where every user can make connections with other users, amassing a limitless list of "friends" (Which, as far as the database is concerned, is a collection of usernames). Since each user can store as many friends and he/she likes, it doesn't really lend itself to making a bunch of columns, since even if I made 100 columns for each user, they still wouldn't be able to store 101 friends, and I want them to be able to have limitless numbers of friends stored in their account (hypothetically). The only solution I could think of is to create a new unique table for each user, and store the list of their friends in that table. But is this practical? Is there another preferred method?

2013 Error - But Only On Wireless Network
I can ping the server without issue on either network interface. I haven't seen anything in the logs (although I haven't upped the log level yet). I'm not even sure where I need to look. I used mysql for a while, I have it installed on my machine and it's a great product. I need help as I am developing an application with php and mysql. and I want to install this on a windows server or just NAS network storage device so other users on the network can run this application and of course use the mysql to store information. Unable To Access Mysql On Network
We have one PC running xampp with a website on. that's working fine. however, when we go to another computer on the network and try to access the site, it cannot connect to mysql. eg: 192.168.5.101 is the machine running the site. (everything works fine) when accessing 192.168.5.101/site/ from another machine, the static HTML pages come over fine, but when we try to access a page using a mysql connection (PHP) we get an error. Unable To Connect MySQL Server Across The Network
We have a MySQL server that was managed by another group in our company, the guy who used to manage that MySQL server has promptly left. Now this server has turned into me. I'm a Microsoft SQL guy, however, the manager doesn't think there is much difference between MSSQL and MYSQL. Now I am in the hot seat to fix a problem that just occurred last week. We're suddenly not able to connect this MySQL server across the network. I checked the network connection, everything looked fine, I was able to telnet into the port 3306. First I thought someone changed the root password, but I was able to connect the server from the local server by using: mysql -h localhost -u root -p Other accounts have the same problem as well. MySQLdump :: Make A Copy Of The Database On Network Machine
I was using the mysqldump program to make a copy of the database on another networked machine. It worked. However I noticed that none of the procedures were there. If I use the --all-databases option does that copy the Procedures & Functions ? But does that also copy all of the user tables too ? Meaning the users on this machine have been transplanted to the other ? I was trying to test this, but kept getting the GPF on Windows for MYSQLDUMP and MYSQLQUERYBROWSER seemed to stop working. No biggie, it's just testing. I'm just wondering if --all-databases means a *complete duplication* on the other machine. It may explain why logins were suddenly not working a couple of days back.

Capture IP Addr Of Network Users Accessing Database
I'm running MySql 5 and PHP 5, along with Apache2 on a winxp box. My database has info that needs to remain confidential, and as an extra security measure, I want to capture the dsn of the network users performing transactions. I have Apache configured to do this, but how do I get that data into my databse, so that I can match a transaction to a specific terminal at a specific time? I suspect somebody has already answered this, but I figure I haven't googled the right question. I am also capturing the user name and the time of each transaction, but that is pretty straightforward.

Storing Text Articles By Network... Use Of Single Table?
I have a website where each network has their own unique ID. Right now, there are about 100,000 individual networks. I want users to be able to submit a story based upon which network they belong to. The submitted story will only be shown in that network as well. The submitted text story will only be about 1000 words long, so not too long. The user will be often performing full text searches on stories in their network. Should I create a table called stories for each network? Or should I create a unique story id and link it to each network?

Network Problem - ERROR 2013 (HY000): Lost Connection ....
I'm having problems with my MySQL server when I do queries that return a lot of data over the network. It's fine if I connect via the local UNIX socket > mysql -u root -p > SELECT * FROM users limit 100; returns 100 rows in a few seconds >SELECT * FROM users limit 1000; returns 1000 rows in a few seconds But when I try the same thing but connecting to the network port I get > mysql -u root -p -h 127.0.0.1 -P 3306 > SELECT * FROM users limit 100; returns 100 rows in a few seconds > SELECT * FROM users limit 1000; sits there for about 15 minutes and then I get the following message ERROR 2013 (HY000): Lost connection to MySQL server during query If I watch the traffic with tcpdump it sends a few packets right at the start and then doesn't appear to be sending anything for the next 15 minutes until the error appears. I'm using 5.0.27-standard-log community edition.

How Do I Setup The Server On A Network Drive For Client Software To Access?
I'm building a database system for our department at work and have successfully installed the MySQL Server 5.0 to my local machine and developed my user interface to access it read/write/update, etc. just fine through VB6 and the ODBC driver. My problem now is how do I get the database files and server functions moved/transplanted/installed on a network share drive (Windows 2000) that my peers and I have access to, so that I can deploy me client user interface onto their machines so we can all access the database across the network and I can get the files off my local hard drive?

20 Connections
Is it normal for mysql's performance to plummet when it hits about 20 connections? These connections are all from scripts running as cron jobs. I have max_connections set to 500 and max_user_connections set to 35.

Too-many Connections
i am using MYSQL database in my system.i have public IP like (202.***.**.**)ie accessed 10 people in my organization.after some time it is showing too-many connections. actually that is used only 10 persons but in my.ini file max_connections=255 are 255 but it is showing always too-many connections error.at that time we are restarting the system the problem is tempararyly solved? what is the permenat solutions for that? by using showprocesslist; command showing the list it is showing 10 users why it is showing the too-many connections?

Max Connections
I have stupidly set the max questions/conections options to such a low number that its locked me out before i even got a chance to play with this new version. Is there any way i can reset all the options and just start again. I have tried uninstalling and deleting the service from windows but on reinstall it just gives the same errors.
