UPDATE Not Working.
The page that sends information to the following page has a series of text inputs. The name of the input corresponds to the name of the column in the in the mysql table. There's also a hidden input, "id", that supplies the unique id number of the entry. My script to enter data into the table and to view the table work fine. The update script runs without any errors, but doesn't alter any values. I also tried printing the value of $query and everything appears to be fine. Anyone know why this is happening? Code:

Update And Select Not Working
an update that doesn't affect any records. As a test, I switched it to a Select statement. Both statements have the same where clause. The select statement returns the number of rows I expected to update. Here are both queries. Any help greatly appreciated. Update Field Isn't Working?
I've created a MySQL database that has one table, that table has two fields, the table is called system, the fields are called status and message. The database is used to populate a html table on a page, that works fine. What I need to do though is have a form on a separate page (which i'm going to add http authentication to) with a simply form consisting of a text box, three radio buttons, and the usualy submit and reset buttons. I need to be able to update the database using this simple form. However this isn't for adding new records, it is purely for editing the existing record as it's to edit simple warning messages to display to the visitors when there is a problem with one of the systems. The radio buttons determine which light image is displayed (green, orange, red) and the text box for the short message. AUTO_INCREMENT Not Working After Mysql Update
I have a database set up on one server and am trying to import it to another. The working one is using 5.0.24 and the one I want to import to is using 4.0.27-standard. I get this error on the first table: #1064 - You have an error in your SQL syntax. Check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1 AUTO_INCREMENT=3' at line 6 Is this something to do with the way AUTO_INCREMENT is specified in version 5 and is there a way to change it for version 4? If there is a simple fix for this I would appreciate a heads up if not, looks like I'll have to get the programmers in again!

Simple Update Just Not Working /banghead
Background: I've been around the web for quite some time, but am new to PHP/MySQL. I recently purchased a zip code database for an upcoming project I'm starting here, and for some reason the CSV format turned all the zipcodes that start with a zero into 4 digits. No biggie, after hours of wrestling with cpanel MySQL import, then giving up and moving on to modifying the bigdump script I FINALLY got the import done. Now I'm trying to correct the 4 digit zip codes back into 5 digit ones. Table name is ZipCodes, column name is ZipCode (is varchar(5) column). Here's the code I'm trying to use to update things, but it just does not perform the update for some reason. update ZipCodes set ZipCode = Ɔ' + ZipCode where char_length(ZipCode) = 4; I've spent a few hours now reading up trying to figure out what the hell I'm doing wrong, but to no avail. I'm sure the fact that I'm a newb at MySQL isn't helping, but is it something obvious that I'm just to dumb to see at this point?

Server Distribution Not Working
I am not able to get MYSQL running on Suse Linux Enterprise Server. I tried stopping with the command mysqld and it reported, "Shtudown Complete." Then when I tried to restart it with the command, "mysqld –user=root" I get the response "mysql.host" doesn't exist. If I try "mysqld – user=mysql", I get numerous errors. I installed Suse Linux Enterprise Server 8 from CDROM and included all options. I saw the MYSQL is part of the distribution so I assumed it was set up properly. Apparently, that is not the case. I tried to uninstall just the MYSQL and downloaded the MYSQL from the MYSQL web site and tried to reinstall it according to the documentation but found the SUSE Linux uninstall did not uninstall everything because I kept getting error messages about conflicts between the MYSQL version leftover stuff from the SUSE distribution and the newer version I donwloded from the MYSQL site. I tried to manually delete everyting I could but to no avail. I gave up and reinstalled the whole SUSE Linux distribution. The very first thing I did after the installation was complete was to try to issue a mysql command as root and got the following: "ERROR 2002: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)" Obviously, something is not quite right on my SUSE Linux distribution.

Server Has Gone Away (inc. Package Size Not Working)
I'm brand brand new to MySQL, and my first order of business is to import some larger files into a database. The file is 20 megs, though I do have files I want to include that near a gig (987mb to be exact). Mysqldump Server Becomes Busy For Longer Time And Site Stops Working
When I'm making a backup of mysql databases, during the dump apache is unable to load pages because mysql is no longer responding to new requests. The backup is taking 5 minutes or so, which essentially brings down the website until it's finished. Has anyone got any suggestions on how to overcome this problem? I'm thinking maybe if I could quickly make a copy of the database to another database within mysql, then backup the copy that was just made.

I'm trying a statement which I cannot figure out what I'm doing wrong on. i have problems after updating mysql from 4.x to 5.0.19. This statement should update about 3000 rows but it only does 15 but there are definitely another 2000 rows with an older date and matching nr! I would like to let my admins write WHERE statements. . In panel where you can see all users of my site, admin should have input where he can put some filters in WHERE statment. E.G. standard query is SELECT login FROM USERS . and admin would write age > 18 and male = 'f' . php script would conact it and it would execute SELECT login FROM users WHERE age > 18 and male = 'f' I have question about security of this solution. Conditional Update Statement
I have a table with a field of ID numbers. I want to update this field and replace the ID numbers. For example I want every record that currently has the ID number 2,5,6,or 9 to be replaced with a 1. Every record with 1 or 4 to be replaced with 2 ... I can't seem to form the update statement to do this. I can do them one at a time but this won't work because if I change 2,5,6, and 9 to 1 then when I run then update for 1 and 4 it will change them all. Does this make any sense? CASE Statement In Update Command
I'm trying to update one table (tbl_usage) based on information from another table (tbl_subscriptions) joined by the userID. The usage table tracks the number of times a user hits a page, and decrements the count each time. When the user has a zero count, they are redirected to a warning page. Each week the count is reset depending on what type of license they have (licenseType) and how many of those licenses they've bought (numLicenses). I have two tables, and I want to take data from one table, and overwrite it onto the second. Unfortunately, my SQL is pretty weak. The first table has a mediumtext column and a id (primary key) column. The second has an id (the same as the first), a number, and a mediumtext column. I want to take the contents of the mediumtext field with the highest number and replace the contents of the field in the first column with it with the same id. Help With Simple SQL Statement To Update Zipcodes
I have a varchar(5) field in a database called 'zip_code'. I imported some zipcodes from an Excel spreadsheet, but the spreadsheet had truncated any zipcode that started with a "0" and removed the zero, so the correct zipcode of "08993" was incorrectly placed into the record as "8993". Would someone help me write a SQL statement to run on the field zip_code that would look at the data, if it was four characters long, add a "0" to the start and keep the remaining four characters in place?

I have a field in my database called Subtopic. In this field I have a word LITERATURE in all caps. I need to change the word LITERATURE to LITERATURE followed by a colon then an empty space. Can someone give me the MySql statement I can paste into phpMyAdmin to make this change? Note: The Subtopic field contains the word "literature" but not in all caps because the Subtopic field is part the database that is an encyclopedia. Linux Server V/s Windows Server ( WebServer - LAMP V/s WAMP)
My client wants to use WAMP ( Windows + apache + MySQL + PHP ). But the site performance is very slow on windows. I dont know the exact reasons. I have seen some benchmark details on internet. But still they are not having concrete facts to support LAMP as a better alternative to WAMP. Allmost all the search done on google melts down to IIS vs Apache, My main concern is "Apache on LINUX" v/s "Apache on Windows" and similarly for PHP/MySQL.
