What Is Execution Time Of A Query Based On? (was "a Mysql Question")

when selecting data from the database, does the time taken to retrieve it vary from 56k connections to T3 connections? or does it all depends ont he general server speed/amount of connections on the db?

im not sure if ive explained that in the best way for people to understand
but im sure someone will get what i mean

How To Get Time Execution Of A Query?
Do you know how to get the time that a query executes? Is there a formula on how to get it?

Example:

Note: I have 5000 data in the table cars

$result = mysql_query("Select * from cars");

Question: How to get time of executing the query above?

How To Get Query Execution Time
How to get query execution time in "mysqlquery.log" files

I am using:

Linux 7.3
mysql 4.1

How to display the query execution time for each and every query in log files.
i have configured "slow-log-query" and "mysqlquery.log" in "my.cnf" is pasted below.

log = /var/lib/mysql/mysqlquery.log
log-slow-queries = /var/lib/mysql/slowquery.log
long-query-time = 0
slow-launch-time = 1

then i can get a output in "mysqlquery.log" like,

070830 9:24:29 2 Connect root@localhost on
2 Init DB jbdatabase
2 Query select count(*) from vacancy1_table
2 Query select category,listcategory from category_t
able order by category
2 Quit

but i need to display the "timetaken of each end every executed query" along with the query in the above logfile like,

E.g:select category,listcategory from category_table order by category(0.03 secs).

Last Query Execution Time
Is there a way to retreive the elapsed time for the prevously executed query?

Alternatively, Is there a way to query the current time in fractions of a second?

I am attempting to use a stored procedure to execute and track the time it takes to run some queries and other commands.

The logic of the stored proc would go something like this.....

Query Total Execution Time
How to get total time taken by a query to execute....

Query Execution Time & Mysql_stat
I am using mysql for my shopping site,Performance of site very slow then I used mysql_stat php function to find out how many slow queries,it shows 20.

Now my question is any function in mysql(or)PHP to show 20 slow queries.

Query Execution Time In PHP Script
I am interested in displaying the query execution time as mysql does from the console, but using php. I've looked everywhere for this and can't find anything. Does anyone know how to display this information to the browser via php? The information must be there since the console provides it.

I checked the php function mysql_info(), but that only shows records, duplicates, deleted, matches, changed, warnings, etc. Didnt see any specific php function for getting execution time.

Measure Execution Time Of Mysql Script
I am trying to measure the total execution time of a mysql script that I run using the mysql command line client in batch mode (-e "source myscript"). The --tee option does not work for the batch mode so that I could then gather and add up the execution times of the SQL queries as logged by the server.

Adding a tee command in the script itself is not working. Using the time command (in Linux , and timex is not available) on the mysql program is also not helpful as I think it does not include the execution time of the queries on the mysql server side, but only the system and user times corresponding to the client process.

Execution Time
After we execute a statement in mysql, it reports the query execution time in the format: n rows in set (t sec).

We may do something like this to get the execution time:
$time_start = getmicrotime();
mysql_query( "" );
$time_end = getmicrotime();
$time = $time_end - $time_start;

But it includes extra CPU time to run two getmicrotime() functions and one subtraction.

Is there any way to obtain the execution time directly from mysql without running extra functions or calculations?

Measure Execution Time
I would like to measure the execution time of my queries in order to evalutate the performance in/decrease for different changes. Even if I use 'sql_no_cache' the query executes MUCH faster the second time I run it, and is therefore not representative of the true performance. How to I avoid this problem?

I'm using MySQL 4.1 on a windows server 2000. I be glad to get an explanation to why the query executes faster the 2nd time.

Improve The Execution Time
i am new to db2 want to ask questions about the performance of my sql commands for a view based another 3 views

the sql commnads are as following:

create view b_central_subgroup as
select communicator as central_member, project_id as project_id
from b_normalized_communicator
intersect
select initiator as central_member, project_id as project_id
from b_normalized_initiator
intersect
select monospeaker as central_member, project_id as project_id
from b_normalized_monospeaker

it takes 4.4 seconds to execute this sql.

it likes that the time is the summ of the other three views.

Can the execution time be reduced through some other methods?
If it is possible , then how ?

Maximum Execution Time Of 300 Seconds Exceeded (was "MYSQL Error")
I have a huge database 400mb+ in size which i have exported into a .sql file. I tried to run this export script into a new database and it runs fine until three quarters into the scripts execution and the following error appears:

ERROR 1064 (42000): You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '<br / >
<b>Fatal error</b>: Maximum execution time of 300 seconds exceeded in <b' at li ne 1
I believe this error may relate to "delayed_insert_timeout = 300". How do I increase this limit in mysql - maybe it may solve the problem but then again it may not .

Any advice is most gratefully appreciated - As you can imagine if the script runs fine for 3/4 of it and then an error appears, stating the error is on line 1, it will take me days to go through the whole script (hundreds of thousands of rows) to find the error as I assume the error does not reside on line 1 as this line would have been executed.

I am running the script on mysql 5, and via source /path/****.sql on linux.

Report Of Query Execution Times
Does mysql have a tool to record and report a list of all queries executed and how long it took to execute each query? If not can anyone suggest a tool I can use to do this?

I've heard of mysql query profiler but does it capture queries from all sessions?

How To Save Accounts Based On Variable Amounts Of Time
I'm currently building a website where users can signup for various accounts.
An account may last 30 days, 12 months or 24 months.
If a user's account is about to expire, an email notification is send, via a CRON Job.

I want to save the different account types in the database, but I'm not sure how to save the duration of an account. If it was all months, I could simply save &#3912;' or &#3924;' as an INT, but it also has an account for 30 days, which is more flexible.

Edit:

It would also be nice if I could ORDER BY duration..

Slow Execution For A Left Outer Join Query
Whats likely to be the cause of slow execution for a left outer join query?

The original query joins three tables but even if I narrow it down to one it still takes a long time to execute.

$query = "select distinct materials.* from materials";
$query .= " left outer join materials_products on materials.material_id = materials_products.material_id";

There's 914 rows in the materials table and 1348 row in the materials_products table

Is it likely to take a long time for this amount of data or is there likely to be a problem in the table(s) set up or query?

Query Based On Results Of A Previous Query
So far I have managed to construct one query which gives me all individuals that have one of three titles.

based on this I now want to find all the individuals that are affiliated to those listed in the first query ....

Generating DAILY Min&amp;Max Over A Period Of Time, Based On A "DateTime" Field
how to print the minimum and maximum of a specific field, between two datetimes (both having the time 02:00:00) - so I did this:

WHERE ((tblvalues.dtLPDateTime)>="2006-01-01 02:00:00" And (tblvalues.dtLPDateTime)<"2006-01-03 02:00:00"))

Now I want to print those min and max values but for each day in this cycle, i mean, for this example, there would be two records like:
Day Min Max
2006-01-01 02:00:00 -> 2006-01-02 02:00:00 | 40 | 59
2006-01-02 02:00:00 -> 2006-01-03 02:00:00 | 49 | 68
where at this point i`m getting min=40 and max=68

Creating A Query Based On Dates
I am trying to write a query (in PHP) which selects from a database all of the items which are in the future. My query is as follows

SELECT * FROM news WHERE ((news.date)>$today ORDER BY date

where news is my database, news.date is the the field which holds the date for the item and $today will be replaced my current date. At the moment it seems to display all values, which suggest its not functioning properly.

Totals Query Based On Days
If I have a table with a ProductID, Quantity, & DateTime field, & would like to have the sum of the Quantity calculated per product per day with blank days being accounted for even if zeroed out, how would I go about accomplishing this in one query?

Example result for ProductX:

Query Based On 'does Not Exist' Condition
Let's say I have a table called 'forumtopics' with a field representing the topic author's username. I then have another table called 'ignorelist' which has two fields; one is an account number and the other a reference to the aforementioned author. There can be many ignored authors for any one account.

For any given account number, I'd like all the rows from the forumtopics table where there is no match for (account, author) held in the ignorelist table. Obviously it's easy to check for existence but can the opposite be done?

I run MySQL 4.0.17.

Mysql Execution Sequence
I need to retrieve the last value from a column in a mysql table, perform some actions on it, then add 1 to the original value and store a new entry.

I am worried that if multiple users access the database at the same time I will end up with duplicated 'new values'. Does mysql complete execution of a script before it allows access to another user or do I need to 'lock' the table in some way while the script executes?

Mysql WHERE Condition Execution
I have 2 columns and I search rows with two conditions.

SELECT * FROM table WHERE A = '$a' AND B = '$b'

How can I make mysql search columns with A condition first and after
that within these condition B.

I would like to know, how mysql search works.
How can I tell mysql how to search?

Query Which Gets Rows Based On A Radius, Lon And Lat Doesn't Work?
I have found this query which gets rows based on a radius. I need this for zip codes based on lon and lat's.

$sql2 = "SELECT * FROM table as z WHERE (SQRT( (69.1 * (".$userLat." - z.lat)) * (69.1 * (".$userLat." - z.lat)) + (53.0 *(".$userLong." - z.lon)) * (53.0 *(".$userLong." - z.lon))) <= ".$userRadius." )";
return $sql2;
$res = mysql_query($sql2, $connDB) or die(mysql_error());
$row = mysql_fetch_assoc($res);
based on a test zip code gives a result like

SELECT * FROM table as z WHERE (SQRT( (69.1 * (52.399834 - z.lat)) * (69.1 * (52.399834 - z.lat)) + (53.0 *(4.840762 - z.lon)) * (53.0 *(4.840762 - z.lon))) <= 100 )
the lat and lon of the test zip code are right. As you can see z.lat and z.lon don't get any value. And these would be every lat and lon in table.

In my db table lon and lat are decimal(10,6) type with a default value of 0.000000

Determining Which Table To Query Based On Data Within Tables
I have 2 tables:

default_categories
column 1: category_id
column 2: category_name
column 3: category_parent

custom_categories
column 1: custom_cat_id
column 2: custom_cat_name
column 3: custom_cat_parent

The custom_categories table won't necessarily have anything in it but if it does, I need to choose the data from the custom_categories table over the data from the default_categories table.

So if the default category has 3 rows with IDs | names:
123 | Dogs
456 | Cats
789 | Fish

And the custom category has 1 row with IDs | names:
456 | Very Cute Cats

I want my query of these 2 tables to produce the following IDs | names:
123 | Dogs
456 | Very Cute Cats
789 | Fish

I've tried joins like the one below but they aren't working because if there is no custom_cat_id, it won't give me the result for the default category_id.

MySQL
SELECT *
        FROM default_categories
        LEFT JOIN custom_categories ON category_id = custom_cat_id
        WHERE category_parent = ''
        AND custom_cat_parent = ''
        ORDER BY $order_by $sort

Mysql Shuts Down During Rapid Execution Of Querys
I am using version 4.0.12-nt of MySQL and when I hit the enter key
rapidly I can't connect to the database. The result is a message is
returned to me from mysql that says I can't connect because the
database is down. If I only hit the 'enter' key once (to execute the
page that my queries are on(their are four queries on this particular
web page)) my queries execute just fine.

We have noticed that this only happens when we:

Query For Month Data Based On Occurance Against Master List
I have a query running nicely. Now I'm trying to expand it.

It pulls the data from a table based on matching the id with another table and part of the grouping is by month and 2 other criteria. Now I'm trying to get the data pulled by month to pull only the info where the id matches the master file AND the FRANID's pulled are the same for each month. I'm trying to get a comparisson across times, but not every month has all FRANID's, depending on when they were entered and I ony want data that exists with matches over set months, starting for now with 12, perhaps also for 6 and 3 next time.

I've simplified what I'm doing above, but it is detailed below.....

PHP/MySQL Sorting By Date & Time (using Non Military Time)
This is probably a simple issue but I have searched online and can't find an answer.

I am using PHP/MySQL and I guess the most intuitive would be to have three select boxes containing HOUR / MINUTE / AM,PM option. Then store the time into mysql using there functions so I can output the data sorting them all by date and time. All the examples I have seen are for military time only but I'm sure there has got to be a simple mysql function or php function that converts non military to military and a formatting function to display with the AM / PM. But I have not found it.

Time Query - Please Help?
I’m completely baffled by a query that I thought I had working yesterday, but I can’t get it working today.

Here’s the screnario:

I’m publishing a story to the web and I don’t won’t it to be published live until:

-The current date (type: date) is less or equal to now
-The current time (type: time) is less or equal to now

So here’s my query:

select * from cms_stories
WHERE section = 'news'
AND published_web_date <= NOW() OR published_web_date IS NULL
AND (published_web_time <= NOW() OR published_web_time IS NULL)
ORDER BY story_id
DESC LIMIT 1
Now the query works for the published_web_date, but not for the published_web_time. It seems to ignore that as you can see from the screenshot returned below from that query.

Query Time
Is there a function out there to determine the length of time a particular query took

Take Long Time To Run A Query!
I have a webserver that I just use for a webapplication. PHP, Apache and MySQL is installed on the server.

The size of MySQL database is 10 GB. End inn it is millions of rows.

I wonder where I search what is the normail time the data to return? In my case it takes from 20 sec to 2 min to run a query!

Time Query Question
I'm trying to pull dates from a db that are newer than 6 months old. I've been testing with 1 day, since there's nothing in the db that's older than 6 months.

query

PHP

$DATEsql = "SELECT DISTINCT DATE_FORMAT(time_in, '%m/%e/%Y') as time ";
$DATEsql .="FROM login ";
$DATEaql .="WHERE time_in > CURDATE() - INTERVAL 1 DAY ";
$DATEsql .="ORDER BY time DESC ";

that is giving me the same results as

PHP

$DATEsql = "SELECT DISTINCT DATE_FORMAT(time_in, '%m/%e/%Y') as time ";
$DATEsql .="FROM login ";
$DATEaql .="WHERE time_in < CURDATE() - INTERVAL 1 DAY ";
$DATEsql .="ORDER BY time DESC ";

This is what I'm interpreting as what I need to do according to the MySql manual.

Execute Time Of A Query
I'm running a SELECT * query on a table with over 3,000 rows. I need to know the execute time on the query.

PHPMyAdmin shows it to me, but because they automatically add a LIMIT 0, 30 I suspect the time is only for those 30 records. It also has a feature to prevent web server timeouts that prevents me from setting the LIMIT to 0, 3100.

BTW, I'm programming in PHP. Does the time to run the query get automatically passed when PHP sends the query to MySQL?

<? PHP
$Query = "select * from my_table where 1";
$Result = MYSQL_QUERY($Query);
?>

Using Time Functions Within A Query
I'm currently working on a script that searches through a database of restauarant information. One of the things it does is allow the user to search only for restaurants that are open at the time of the search, however i get errors when trying to implement this.

Here is the query im using:

Limiting Query Time
Is it possible to limit the query time in MySQL (3.x or 4.0)? For
example, I'd like to have any query that takes more than a specified
number of seconds just quit automatically. Seems dumb, but on a web
site, nobody is going to wait minutes for a query to return so they
refresh anyway. So on a busy server, MySQL ends up with several queries
running that all take a long time to finish which compound to make it
even slower. A simple time limit would solve the problem. Yes, I know
that the queries should take less time, but again, on a busy server,
sometimes the longer queries do take a long time (10 minutes or more)
to complete.

Exceeded Run Time Query
I made a application in PHP, I have a table "control1" and this table have 85000 registries and Size is 200 MB, so when I try do a query in PHP, I have a error "exceeded run time", I changed the time but is the same, and after I connected by console, and I could see that the query take 14 minutes.

Here my sql:

$sql_filtro="SELECT COUNT(*) nFilas FROM control1 WHERE MATCH (contenido) AGAINST ('$q')";

Add Time Using A Select Query
Hello, how can I add, say, 2 hrs from a time in a database using a select query. I have searched the forums but cannot find an answer. Is it possible PHP Code:

 select
date,
`time`                         as timetime
     , time_format(`time','%l:%i %p') as Printtime,
client,
address
from..........

It averages 0.5-3 seconds throughout the day (it's run often enough that it shows up in my slow query log multiple times an hour for exceeding 1 second).

Adding a partial index on webpageUrl doesn't affect anything, and URLs can be quite long. Is there anything I can do to speed up that query? The table is updated too often to maintain separate url/count tables -- can't spare the resources.

Comparing Dates Y, M, D , Time In Sql Query
ok.. ive finally got my nice little calender setup to output my dates

now

how do i query my database

for example ive got 2 variables
$startdate = 2006-1-1 00:00:01
$enddate = 2006-1-1 23:59:59

these represent the 1st and last second of the first of january 2006

i have a cell in my table (table called challenges) ( cell called time) that contains a date in the same format for each entry

how do i get all the entries between the start time and the end time..

can i use less than < and more than > as these are not really integar values

the column type is datetime but there is also another column of type datetime

Query Takes A Long Time

Query For A Specific Amount Of Time...
I was wondering if there was some possible way to display a mqsql query for an exact ammount of time?

TIMESTAMP :: Query By Time And Date
I have a field in my table that holds a timestamp. Below is a pseudo-query to describe what I would like to do.

SELECT * FROM `mytable` WHERE `saved_date` <= `6/24/05 10:22:34 AM`

`saved_date` is the field holding a TIMESTAMP. If anyone could give me the query that would actually do what I am trying to do above,

Query To Display A Record By Recent Time
Many users uploaded their files to my mysql table through php script,
my table having the details of uploading time, file name, & uploader name.

i need to find the recent uploaded file for all uploaders.

i tried with this query,

select file_name,uploded_by,MAX(date_time) from upload group by uploded_by;

it is giving the recent time, but it is not giving the latest file, it is showing first uploaded file.

Time Out Message When Query Large Tables
I'm trying to get data from 6 large tables but the volume of data in each table is too large and even select * from one of them make the system stop. I have afew questions:

1-what can I do to avoid the system stop or time out message?

2- To use several tabels infomation should I use 'View' command or can I use other methods?

3-I need to create a new table and insert the result from query in it. If I use the "view" can I insert the result of the view in a table?

(I use postgresql).

Asynchronous Execution
I have the following situation

php file 1: an SQL writes data to the database
php file 2: an SQL reads data from the database

Some users report errors that MIGHT be due to the SQL in file 1 not being executed, before they click on a link to open file 2. So they get out of date information.

I want to know if this is technically possible, whether this might indeed be the problem, that if a database is very busy, that SQL statements are queued and data retrieval may read obsolete out of date information, because the data storage SQL has not been executed yet.

And if this is the problem, I would like to wait in file 1 until the data has actually been written.

Ending Of Execution
is it important to free resources and end connection after every code execution...
i found a few codes examples and they don't usually end with DIE or EXIT... so i'm curious if thats a security risk?
