I set up MYSQL 5.0.4 but i was unable to start it as a windows service. i am using windows 2000 professional. the only way server start is my using console i am using binaries not the windows installer package. i read the manuall but the problem exits. i made a my.ini file with following lines in it [mysqld] # set basedir to your installation path basedir=e:serversmysql # set datadir to the location of your data directory datadir=e:serversmysqldata the installation paths are right it cannot start as a windows service i installed the service but when i start the it stops i don't know now what to do the only option i have it to start it manually e:>mysqld --console

Cannot Login At Mysql5
I just installed mysql5 I am able to connect to it using telnet and mysqladmin But when I try to login the username or password is not correct. I installed it with the installer and set a new password there. I thought I would have set the password for the root user but that is not working. Can someone tell me what user and password I should use when i login the first time ?

i'm trying to export my database from my test machine (mysql5) to my production server (mysql4), the first problem is something related (i think) to differences in the sintax, to solve this i used phpmyadmin to generate the dump and set an option 'compatibility with sql export' to mysql40 or mysql323, that works but now characters that should be accented vowels á,é,í,ó,ú and ñ look very strange and i can't figure it out how to make them look normal again.

Large Files And Mysql5.0
I have some large files that I need to blob into the a table. I am using Innodb and added this line to my my.ini file [ max_allowed_packet=16M ]. I am using Hibernate, and have blob choosen as a type. What is the max size for a blob? I also see tht Hibernate has large blob, but nowhwere in docs do I see sizes for these objects. Also, if anyone is using hibernate, is there a way to choose largeblob as a mapping type?

I got Apache and PHP to work just fine with one another, but problems seem to arise everywhere when it comes to MySQL.I have followed all the tutorials that I could find out on the internet,but MySQL still fails to run,when I conduct the test under phpinfo.php. Windows 2003 To Windows XP Pro Secure Communications...
I have a Windows 2003 Server running a Coldfusion app that needs to constantly update a MySQL database on a Windows XP Pro machine. These machines are not on a LAN and are physically separate. I'm trying to find a way to establish secure communications between them since I do not want port 3306 open to the entire internet. What I've Tried So far I tried CopSSH with Putty but this did not work because I need to manually initiate all sessions and enter passwords by hand. Since there aren't any SSH solutions that allow persistent, automatic connections, it appears I need to go with VPN. The VPN Dilemma I tried creating a VPN server on the WinXP MySQL machine but I cannot get ODBC to work remotely. How do you get the ODBC on the local (Win 2003) machine to recognize the MySQL database on the remote (WinXP Pro) server? Note: I also understand that getting SSL working on Windows is a pain in the butt. I'm trying to steer completely clear of that. I don't have the tools to recompile, etc.

I just got a second dedicated server (fedora) and this one is running mysql 5 whereas the other servers run 4. For some reason, I don't know if it's perms or just the way the server was setup?.. I can't run order by statements when I join 2 tables and also I can't view the structure of a table? I can create tables and query a single table and also join two tables but I can't order by the joined tables... Trying to setup mysql5 to run with apache 2 and php5 and having very little luck. I've followed instructions from many sites and yet it still isn't being recognised when using the php functions to connect to the db. mysql runs fine on it's own as I've been using it. I've downloaded the *.dlls from mysql and installed them in the correct dir's, uncommented the mysql dll in php.ini and restarted apache.

Just a warning - there is currently a worm doing the rounds attacking MySQL servers running on Windows. Linux / *BSD / OSX are not affected. It doesn't exploit any MySQL security holes, but attempts to brute force the password. Once in it installs a bot (W00t bot), and connects to a number of IRC channels, advertises it's presence and recieves IP subnets to attack. Solution: 1) Use a STRONG root password. 'root', 'mysql' or 'secret' doesn't cut it. 2) Limit root connects to certain IP addresses (ONLY 'localhost' is the best). Don't let root connect from '%'. 3) MySQL should RARELY be exposed to the network. Use a firewall and MySQL's skip-networking command.

Recently I installed mysql on a win98. Some 2 days after the installation the system started experiencing a problem shutting down. I cant get mysql to run on my winXP computer. I have downloaded it and installed , unzipped and run setup.exe and placed it in c:mysql. Encryption On Windows
Can anyone advise whether its possible to use the Encode/Decode functions on Windows (Win2K) platform in Mysql & PHP. A book i'm using says they cannot be used in windows yet i've managed to get my application successfully Encoding a password at the time of using an, 'Insert INTO' qry - its stored ok as a BLOB (field was set-up as a BLOB). Problem is i cannot use the DECODE() to reverese things. When tried i get a 'cannot excecute query' type mssg. Looked at MD5 and SHA1 but they are one-way funcs only. I like the look of AES and DES ENCRYPT/DECRYPT but can't get them to work either.
