Detecting PDF Files In A Folder And Sorting Them By Date
I am about to write an application that will display all pdf files in a folder and display them by file name in order of date.
Is there an easy way of doing this? I was thinking about somehow adding filename and date created in an array, sorting by date and then printing onto an html page with a link to that file. How would I do this though? Is this the simplest method or is there a better way of doin this?

Sorting Files By Date Created/updated

Deleting Files In A Folder Modified Before Certain Date
I use a cache system that requires creation of files in a folder . Now , what i need to know is how can i delete files created say 3 days ago. So that the cache remains fresh. The directory contains around 20,000 files , about 10,000 are generated each day (if they dont exist) So getting info about the each file after using opendir will cause the server to slow down.
Sorting By Date
im trying to sort a fixtures list by date! But obviously it just sorts it by first numbers for example it orders the list by day value and not day and month, i found this code in a previous post : SELECT DATE_FORMAT(date_field, '%W %M %Y')FROM table_name Trouble is i dont really understand. How do i implement that if i want to select all from the table and order it by the date???
Date Sorting From File
I am doing a flatfile calendar, and I need a way to display all activities for a whole year. Each month has its own file, with the following layout 2003-09-01 Da message 0 // date message priotiry 2003-09-02 Das besked 1 My problem is that I need to somehow get this information and print it out in an order of date. The information is not saved in any order so I need to sort it in my code, My plan was to go through all the files (plain text), and collect the left side in one array and then sort it, then pair the right side with the correct date. Problem is, I don't know how to do that.
Sorting Files
i have a small little problem - i am looking for some sort of script, that will allow me to sort out files into order, determined by their filename, eg. 30-04-2005.php - would be a file that has todays date - i use dates for filenames, as events happen on these days, and its easier to find them. Files are currently automatically sorted after being created, into a folder, and subfolder, depending on what the filename date is, for example, 30-04-2005.php would go in the folder ./2005/04/ - whereas 05-06-2004.php would go in ./2004/06/. The sorter I am looking for, will sort all the files that lie in the folder, into order, after they have been created, onto a list where each link goes to the particular file, preferably, with the name of the month at the top of the monthly list, the files that belong into the month, in date order (ie. 1st april, would be above 10th april) - and the list contains all the months for the year, in month order (ie. jan-dec), and the file with the list in, lies in the year folder, so it can be accessed easily. One more small thing - for the current year, the files are all in reverse order, so that the latest file is at the top - but again, sorted into months, but going down from dec-jan....
Sorting Multiple XML Data By Date
I am making an RSS parser that takes multiple XML inputs in to an array and then sorts them by their date value... and it 'almost' works... I always lose the top value of the second rss feed to be parsed... its pretty annoying as this is often the most recently updated RSS item that is missing from my multi-feed... usort($xmlreader_parsed_data, "rss_cmp"); which calls this function: function rss_cmp($a, $b) { $a = strtotime($a->date); $b = strtotime($b->date); if ($a == $b) { return 0; } return ($a $b) ? -1 : 1; }
Sorting Date Column By Month
I am writing a blog script and on the display end I want to sort the results by month, so there will be a link to each month of the year and then a link to the previous year. I have done a lot of searching for this and come up empty. Can someone help me out with query that will select results for the current month, the previous month and the one before that etc.? And what is the best format to save the date column in? mysql's date format? unix timestamp?
Files Sorting In Directory
Can anybody tell me how files are sorted in remote directories on an Apache server? I am working with files and directories in php, having pictures in a directory and let php find and display them automatically. However, the sorting of the pictures is all mixed up, they only seem to be sorted by filename, but are in some cases not. I have experimented with uploading them once again, all in a bunch as well as picture by picture. it gives me various results, I can not recognize any pattern in the sorting.
Arrays And Sorting, Read From Files
this is an ecommerce website. the categories are static, but the products are not. what happens is a user clicks on a link, subgroups.php?a=miscellaneous. subgroups either has a=, p=, l=, c= or s= but not more than one. so, in a folder called 'dat' there are 5 text files: a, p, l, c, s. these contain the products for each category. what i want is a list of products to be read from the correct file and displayed in a tabled list. the files are layed out like this: miscellaneous|Sticky Tape|MS394 miscellaneous|Scissors|MS012 so, subgroups.php?a=miscellaneous will read a.txt and look for all rows starting with miscellaneous and display them in a table. along with a thumbnail (img/thumbs/MS394.gif or img/thumbs/MS012.gif) and a link to product information (dat/a/miscellaneous/ms394.txt) which will be included on the next page. How can i do this?
Paging Of Folder Files
i have a form which has a select button when user clicks it a popup opens which shows all images in abc folder when user clicks on any image the window closes and the name of that image is entered in the text box in parent form, now its working fine uptill here but if user refresh the popup window then it disconnects from parent window so my code that fills the textbox in the parent form and closes the popup window does not work anymore im using it like parent.document.form.texthox.value=abc since popup window is refreshed it does not work as child any more and this code does not work.
Files And Folder Copying
I am trying to write a function to copy an existing folder and folder structure but am already stuck. What I want to do is the following: Copy a default folder (default_folder) and all sub folders within it (down to a possible 4 levels) eg default folder ->subfolder1 ->subfolder2 ->sub subfolder1 ->sub sub folder 2 I have a form where the user can enter the name of the new folder and an option to confirm if they want to copy the files also located within the default folder. If the checkbox is not checked then copy just the folder structure only Can this be acheived in one function or will it be based on 2 where a set of empty folders are created and where the folders and files are copied over
What Is The Max PDF Files Allowed In A Folder?
Not sure where to put this question? I am building a book archives database with a front-end for some librarians. They want to upload book cover images onto the server (probably Win-NT). There are approximately 80000 records that will have the book cover images stored in a PDF document for each. Can I upload every PDF to the same folder? Is there some kind of limit for a folder?
Deleting Files From A Folder...

Opening Files In The Same Folder..
I have a php file (1.php) that needs to open another php file (2.php) and parse it's output. 2.php gets it's data from an xml file and formats it in a pretty screen style. So what I need is something like: $fp = fopen ("2.php?file=file.xml","r"); but that wont work because there is no file called ƈ.php?file=file.xml' so how's it done?
Root Of Folder App Files
While I know putting a app into a folder was chiseled out of fine scottish granite and carried upto the top of ben nevis by php newbies many years ago - I dont think a folder is the best way to do it . The fact a script is in a folder means certain instant problems if you want to do certain things with . Assuming a script doesnt have index.php and all the script files have a filename prefix like phpgb_ then theres no chance of them clashing with anything else and theres no real reason to continue using a folder for the main script files . While the script will have a app folder for various things - does it make any sense not to use the root because of a single solitary file called index.php . phpgb_index.php is what I use and the method hasnt brought up a single problem of any shape or description . Gas lighting was once what everybody thought was the best way of doing it until that darn new fangled electricity came along .
1 - 2 Millions Files In One Folder?
I have to store over a million files, 10 - 15 kb each, in one folder. The files are created by my php script, sometimes the old files are deleted and new ones are written. So, basically on every connection my script reads/deletes/ writes files from/to that folder. Right now i have only around 300 000 files in that folder, and it feels like its getting slower for that script to work. It does work at the moment, but i am not sure what will happen when there is over a million files there... Are there any limits of files that can be stored in a folder? Would it be better for me to use mysql? I am not sure how mysql will cope with millions of writes/reads

I cant upload folders to my remote root folder. I need to allow the users to upload somewhere inside the root folder so they can reference the pictures in code after. Just to clarify the uploading works perfectly if I put the uploads folder anywhere on my computer except the sites remote root folder (or anywhere inside the root folder) I also beleive I am giving the folder all of the proper permissions because I am giving the uploads folder in my root directory (the one that doesnt work) the same permissions as the one outside the root (the one that works) Code:
Some Files Created Automatically In Mysql Database Folder

How To Move Files To The "lib" Folder?
A client recently asked me to move a lot of code into the "lib" folder...and I'm not sure exactly how to do this without having the site blow up. I'm using Subversion and have a root-level folder structure that looks like this: * lib * logs * sql * src Currently, I have all of my web files in the "src" folder. There is a folder of include files in the "src > includes" folder. The client is asking to move these to the "lib" folder for security reasons. How do I do this?! I'm not sure how to move files outside the "src" folder and have the site still function properly.
Remove From $name (folder)/(folder)/[x]/ <-- If Exists To Just Get [x].
I'll be quite honest. I don't have the faintest idea how to do this, while I can do other php without a problem. Once I know how to go about it I'll be okay. It's two things I think? 1. see if there's a trailing slash and delete it. 2. Remove the preceding path to /x, the folders and slashes, and delete them. and then I have x. X by the way is the final folder in a website and this grabs it for me. <? $name = $REQUEST_URI; ?>
Detecting Host URL.
I've got a site that has both secure access (https) and normal http access. both use the same index.html. The problem I have is that I cannot find a way to check which method is being used to access the site. Ideally I want to check for https access and if that's not being used, redirect to the https url. Anyone know of a way of doing this in PHP?
Detecting Frames With PHP
Is it possible to use PHP to see if the person who is accessing ur website is using the frame set up or the non frame set up?
Detecting Flash
I need a way to detect whether someone has flash installed. I will use this information to take them to two different pages depeding on the result.
Detecting Recursion
Say I have an array containing a reference to itself: $myArray = array(); $myArray['self'] =& $myArray; How can I, looping iteratively through the array, detect the fact that $myArray['self'] will "take" me to where I have already been? The print_r() and var_dump() functions print *RECURSION* in such a case (though only after the "second round"). Setting a flag seems to be the only solution, but I don't want to modify the array in question - I want to produce a visual representation of its contents like var_dump(), but formatted to my taste. I had considered parsing the output of var_dump(), but first, that format might change in a future version of PHP and second, an array key might be a string resembling part of the output (like $myArray['["myArray"]=>']), which seems to be difficult to detect by the parsing code. Is there another way of doing this?
Detecting Domain?
how I can use PHP to detect the domain that is being used? Or just detect the full URL? Because I have more then 1 domain and I want to redirect the others to the first one, so that google won't think I am using duplicate content and penalize me for it. So like either a way to detect what the domain is (E.G. domain2.com) so that I can redirect to domain1.com Or just a way to detect if it ISN'T domain1.com, and redirect to domain1.com if it isn't? Because I like to register more then 1 domain for common misspellings, like the way google has gooogle.com redirect to google.com
Detecting Sum Of Array = 0 Problems
I use the following code to put directories that are on the server but not in the database yet on my website, so I can use a function to have them added. However, when all my directories are in the database I get just an empty page, I want to put in a nice line that says all dirs are already added. I don't know why the following code doesn't do just that. I tried several other things, no luck yet. Do you have any idea what goes wrong, or how to solve this?
