Display Of Mysql Table Result...
I have a mysql table of articles with fields:
- recordID - department - articleTitle - articleText
Using PHP, I'm attempting to get the results of the table to display as follows:
Department 1 - articleTitle 1 - articleTitle 2 - etc....
Department 2 - articleTitle 1 - articleTitle 2 - etc..
I figure I should use a while loop but can't figure out how to exit/reset the loop when a new 'department' is encountered in the $result.

ASP.NET & PHP - Php Xml Table Display
I hope that there is someone fluent in both php and asp.net who can help me bridge a gap. In asp.net it is fairly easy to take a simple xml file and display it as a table [or datagrid], using something like: void Page_Load() { String xmlFilename = @"C:...example.xml"; DataSet newDataSet = new DataSet(); newDataSet.ReadXml(xmlFilename); DataGrid1.DataSource = newDataSet; DataGrid1.DataBind(); } followed by: <asp:DataGrid id="DataGrid1" runat="server"></asp:DataGrid> I would like to know how to do this in php.
PHP & Table Display Problems
Simple PHP script which selects data from a DB and outputs the data into a nice simple html table formatted using css classes. Now the odd bit.. Works fine on my machine everytime but on others the HTML formatting goes to pot on the odd line, like the font is too big, or the background color has gone, or a cell is missing which puls the remaining cells one in from the right misaligning the table. Now the even odder bit... When you view source on the bad page, the HTML is absolutely perfect. Any ideas?
AJAX To Display New Records In A Table

Instead of refreshing the entire page to show the table with new messages, how can I use AJAX to show the new messages in the table without refreshing the entire page?

What Is The Best Way To Display Specific Info From A Table?
I am hosting a youth sport site and I want to display schedules by select teams. I thought that I would want a drop down menu to select one of our 35 divisions, then a secondary search by team of that previously selected division menu. My schedule is in a table with the fields: * division * date * time * home_team * h_score * visiting_team * v_score * field I see problems, since secondary drop down menu would have to search two different fields. Any suggestions and hint to where I would even start?

Dyamic Table Display For Picture Presentation
I am trying to practice good web coding technique and stay away from the dread iframes. (Just like the bogey monster under your bed when you were 5, but hidden in cyberspace =/ ) So here is an overview of what i am trying to do. Values are sent to the Picture Window using a function. Corresponding values trigger images to show up in the Picture Window dynamically. When the user clicks on pic3 the value is sent to the Picture window; this displays a larger image of "pic 3" is shown in the Picture Window. The variable passed corresponds to the images the user clicked on. For example the user click on pic3 a value of pic3-large.jpg is sent to the getPicture function which displays a larger image in that window. General layout of the function is written below. The question that I have is how can I capture the user clicks to send a value to the function getPicture($image)? My next question is how can I get pic3-large.jpg to show up in the pic3 table, while keeping all other parts static? The table id for the picture viewer is picture_view. I could use an iframe but I rather do this in PHP. Since the support for iframes is rather buggy; and really isn’t a cross browser solution. Here is a picture to better explain what im trying to do and below it is some code:

Mysql Fetch_field Gets Table Alias, Not Real Table Name

Using PHP To Sort Data In MySQL Table 1 By Values In Table 2
I have a MySQL database with 2 tables in it. products and prices.. Products has a field in it called 'prodno'. Prices has a field in it called 'prodid'. There is one of each item in products and each product has it's own unique 'prodno' There are multiple instances of each product's pricing in prices.. One for each price.. So if a product had multiple prices depending on quantity it would have an entry for each price.. Example: id = 1 prodid = 7001 qty = 300 price = 12.5 id = 2 prodid = 7001 qty = 400 price = 15.5 I was wondering if I could query the database getting info from the products table but sort it according to the prices in the prices table. Kinda like doing a "SELECT * FROM products" ordering it by the lowest price value from each item.. This is all very confusing to me, and I'm the one writing it. Let's try one last time.. Query the database selecting * from products (I plan on using all the info in products) and ordering them by the lowest price for each item in the prices table. I've tried sorting the results of just a basic SELECT * FROM products using Javascript and PHP but with pagination in the results it makes it a bit hard.
Display Database Output In Mutli Column Html Table
I am building an HTML form using data from a mysql query. The data to be displayed on the form is 1 column from the db - but multiple rows. Because there are many rows (well, only about 100+) in the table I want to be able to put 2 or 3 (space permitting) rows from the result on each row of the HTML table with a checkbox beside each entry from the db table. The idea is that the user will scroll down the list and check up to 4 or 5 boxes before submitting the form and I didn't want them to have to scroll ALLLL the way to the bottom (100+ rows). I understand how to get data from a db table and put it into an html table, but I cannot figur out how to put more than 1 row from the result on to the same row of the html table. I hope I haven't confused anyone reading this -- If I am way off base with what I am trying to do please give me alternatives. I am trying to avoid paginating the data for a couple reasons a) clicking a next and/or prev button is more hassle than just scolling down a list and b) the data in the column being displayed is only about 35 - 40 characters and it seems to be if i only placed one result row on each html table row, there would be a lot of wasted space.
Getting Result From Mysql
I am using this code to get some data from a mySQL database. Which seems pefectly valid to me. Here it is: Code:
MySQL Result Resource
I want to build a function that, depending on the input, will either return the results from a MySQL query or do something else and return one of several messages. My problem is checking the return value to see which is returned. Is there a php function that checks a variable to see if it is a valid MySQL result resource? I looked through the manual and couldn't find anything.
MySql Result In Textarea

Returning 1 Result From MySQL
I know the usual way of receiving results from MySQL, useing a while loop e.g. $sql = "SELECT * FROM users WHERE email='joe@hotmail.com'"; $result = mysql_query($sql,$connection); while ($row = mysql_fetch_array($result)){ echo $row["firstname"]; echo $row["lastname"]; echo $row["email"];} BUT, if I know they only 1 result is going to be returned, is there a way to do this without using a while loop? So if I only wanted to get only the firstname of the person with email joe@hotmail.com. can I do this without a while loop or do I have to use one?

Invalid MySQL Result
I keep getting the following two errors: Warning: Supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource in /home/xxx/public_html/articlepro/newarticle.php on line 75 Warning: Supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource in /home/xxx/public_html/articlepro/newarticle.php on line 84 Here's the code which I think is causing the problem. MySQL (DB) Result Sorting
I'm doing is taking results (fetching rows) from my mySQL database. But what I want to do is sort the results according to last name. So basically the table structure looks something like this: id (primary key) fullname A example rows could be: 1 John Smith 2 Mary Jane Now what I want to do is sort the results in PHP based on last name. I'm using the Pear DB for connecting to my mySQL database. Based on the example rows I gave, Mary Jane would go first, and then John Smith. How would I go about doing this? I was beginning to split the result based on spaces, and the last word to explode, but how would I truly do this?
Modifying MySQL Result - But Not The DB
How can I modify a MySQL data set returned by mysql_query? I am basically doing a while loop over the rows, changing one field, and then doing a mysql_data_seek back to the beginning of the set before returning it. However, later calls to mysql_fetch_assoc still return the orginal data, meaning that (I assume) I am changing a copy of the data rather than the result set itself. Taking the reference (i.e. $record =& mysql_fetch_assoc($result);) did not help. I have read a large quantity of the posts in the php.net site, googled, and read my PHP books - but have come up short on this one. Yes, I know it's better to simply modify the DB. However, I'm working with an existing code base which is very complicated, and want to cherry pick one very well tested feature by making a change in the result set only under special circumstances.
Substr() With A MySQL Result?
I am trying to limit the amount of text exhoed from a MySQL database column. From reading around it appears the substr() should be able to do this Code:
Mysql Result Into Array?
I have a shopping cart script sending info to a processor. I need to send the qty's and item name's in some sort of string via a single variable to the process form. i.e. (3) Hipster Turnips, (6) Butter Milk Baby Brains, (2) Super Freaks Code:
Result From Mysql Into Foreach?
when using mysql_fetch_array($result) I usually toss that into a while loop like so while($row = mysql_fetch_array($result)){ ... } however I was wondering if there was a way to put it in a foreach statement like so foreach(mysql_fetch_array($result) as $row){ ... } Is that legit? Will this work?
Linking To A MySQL Result
I had it the other day but now altered the code for my real database and it stopped working. Here is the first page which lists the 10 most recent news stories: <?php require ('get_connected.php'); $sql = mysql_query ("SELECT title, story_id FROM news ORDER BY story_id DESC LIMIT 0, 10"); while ($row = mysql_fetch_assoc($sql)){ echo "<a href='view.php?id={$row['story_id']}'>" . ucwords(strtolower($row['title'])) . "</a><br>"; } ?> And here is the page that should be displaying the news story based on story_id selected by the user.....
Using MYSQL Result To Send Mail
I have wrote a program to load a number of email address from the MYSQL database. And I have use "$mail = mysql_query("select email from user;",$link_ID); Now, I want to use mail() to send email to those e-mail account I got. What should I do for this?
Date Formatting From Mysql Result
always in the past I have done my date formatting from the query like so: DATE_FORMAT(dateField, '%W, %b %e, %Y') AS realDate I have tried formatting the straight date result with PHP like so: having fetched results with mysql_fetch_array, $newDate=$result["dateField"]; $formattedDate=date($newDate, 'm/d/y'); This doesn't work and simply returns the unformatted date as it is stored in the database.
Invalid MySql Result Resource
I have written a php script to search a MYSQL database and with the line: $result = mysql_query ("SELECT * FROM table1 WHERE first_name LIKE '$first_name%' AND last_name LIKE '$last_name%' " ); The next line, if ($row = mysql_fetch_array($result)) { , gives me the error message "supplied argument is not a valid MySql result resource"
