HTML In A Database
I've been using BLOBs to store the HTML coding in the database - and I can easily pull them back and spit them right into the PHP driven page to have all the bolds and italics and picture links and so on. but is there a better way to put them in the database.

Storing HTML In Database
I want to be able to store HTML input from a text field, and I wanted to encode it when it went in, so that it didn't break the PHP as it was assigning it to the variable. so I used URLEncode and URLdecode, but thenin text, "you'll" ends up as "youll", which is not what I want. Is there something else I could use? I've looked at a few functions in the man pages, but I don't think they're what I need.

How To Get Html Tags From A Database ?
I have a database where people themself put a profilname into. I have just had a user who called his profil HisName<something> When this was written in my profil name list it only said HisName. Probably because the browser thought that <something> was html coding. So how can I get a name like that from the database without any mistakes by the browser. Is there some special way I should get the data from the database, or ?? I looked in MyPhpAdmin and here his name was HisName<something> so it is put in the database OK, it's when I get the name in the browser it can't get it right.

Secure Way To Store HTML In The Database?
to my understanding it is very unsafe to allow users to submit HTML from a form to the database. What if I allowed the user to use HTML, but when they submitted it I would change all the >'s and <'s into backets [ and ]. So the user would type out: <img src="image.jpg"> and it would be inserted into the database like this: [img src="image.jpg"] Would this be a secure way of doing it? Or is there a better way?

Needs Guidance On Database And Html Integration
I have looked through forums and tutorials and with the advice there I have managed to manipulate my MYSQL database. I have created HTML forms to add data and select data with PHP to handle the file processes. However I have not been able to find an example of how to do this in a single HTML, or PHP, file. At the moment what happens is that data, or a search request, is entered, the user presses the validate button, the variables are processed by the PHP file and that is it, single time, ie no loop back for more data entry. Importing Html To Mysql Database
I'm preparing to convert my "old" non-dynamic html website to php and mysql. I finally found a mediumly fast way to turn the html pages into raw data, but it has html codes within the content that I want to stay within the database. For example, I have DIV and CLASS codes with quote marks (div id="fred" - p class="red") that I want to stay. I've read through the mysql documentation and understand that I can set the fields-terminated-by, fields-enclosed-by and lines-terminated by with characters, but I can't find which characters are allowed. I also am not sure about doubling the quotes in order to keep them ("") or adding slashes ("), or what. I did a test run with phpmyadmin to add a simple four field test text file to a table I set up with phpmyadmin. I tried changing from the default field separators of ";" to "^" and record ends of "#". Nothing. Code:

Pre-selecting Options In Html-form According To Database Entry
I've got a html-form consisting - among other fields - of several drop-down-boxes and radio button groups. With this form you should be able to either create a new dataset or to edit an existing one. If the latter is the case, my application should propose values (the ones which are already in the database) and write them into the input-fields. My problem is, it should have the according options pre-selected and the checkboxes checked, and I've no idea how to do this. (Example: I've a dropdown box for languages, and my dataset says the language is English, then in my dropdown box the option "English" should be preselected when this dataset is to be edited).

Error Updating Html Text In A Mysql Database
I have a field in my database which needs to contain html code (for formatting of text, lists, and links). I can successfully add the data and view it on a webpage, but I cannot figure out how to edit it. My code currently looks like this: $id = $_POST['id']; $myhtml = $_POST['myhtml']; if (!get_magic_quotes_gpc()) { $myhtml = addslashes($myhtml); } $query = ("UPDATE products SET myhtml="$myhtml" where id="$id""); $result = mysql_query($query); And the error is: You have an error in your SQL syntax. Display Database Output In Mutli Column Html Table
I am building an HTML form using data from a mysql query. The data to be displayed on the form is 1 column from the db - but multiple rows. Because there are many rows (well, only about 100+) in the table I want to be able to put 2 or 3 (space permitting) rows from the result on each row of the HTML table with a checkbox beside each entry from the db table. The idea is that the user will scroll down the list and check up to 4 or 5 boxes before submitting the form and I didn't want them to have to scroll ALLLL the way to the bottom (100+ rows). I understand how to get data from a db table and put it into an html table, but I cannot figur out how to put more than 1 row from the result on to the same row of the html table. I hope I haven't confused anyone reading this -- If I am way off base with what I am trying to do please give me alternatives. I am trying to avoid paginating the data for a couple reasons a) clicking a next and/or prev button is more hassle than just scolling down a list and b) the data in the column being displayed is only about 35 - 40 characters and it seems to be if i only placed one result row on each html table row, there would be a lot of wasted space.

Magic Quotes Problem With Html Links Saved In Database
I think this is a magic quotes problem but I'm not certain. On the backend of a site, I have a form used to save some default content to a database. The form has a textarea among other fields. When a link is embedded in the textarea content like so, <a href="http://thelink.com/link/" >The Link</a> the link is saved in the database as, <a href="http://thelink.com/link/" >The Link</a>I think this is due to magic quotes being on. (and no the host won't turn it off.) On the frontend of the site, The same default content is pulled into a user form which is used for emailing that content to others. It can be edited by the user prior to mailing if desired. For instance the user could add more links in the textarea as html. I would like any links in the default content to be formatted correctly in the frontend user form when it is called. I would also like those links, and any the user adds, to remain properly formatted when the email form is submitted.

.html' Page Be Replaced By '.html.php'
Can a '.html' page be replaced by '.html.php' page via RewriteRule? To clarify, I'm using a software that formats the look of the site using .html pages. I'd like to add PHP code to that page but of course, it is not of the right page type. What I was wondering is Could I create a duplicate of that '.html' page, rename it to .g. '.html.php' and make the revisions and then just create a RewriteRule that redirects the '.html' page to the '.html.php' without generating an error? The alternative and undesired way of doing it would be to rename the original page to '.html.php' and find and revise ALL of the routines that call that page. That would create a revision nightmare especially upon upgrading the software.

Conditional Statement - Glossary Database (glos) That Can Search The Database

I would love to get something like "Sorry but your word is not in the database" plus some extra stuff like another form to submit the new word, etc. I just don't know where or how to put in a logic script for if there are no results, do something else. Thanks for any help you can give a php newbie. <? $result = mysql_query( "select * from glos where $word like '%$sometext%' order by word"); while ($i = mysql_fetch_array($result)){ print <<<END <a href="/definition.php?word={$i['word']}">{$i['word']}</a><br> END; } mysql_close(); ?>

Require_once(<html Fragment File>) Vs Document.write(<html Fragment>)
To reuse common fragments of html on many pages I have used javascript functions, called from a linked .js file, which are precisely one instruction: document.write(<the html>). I'm starting to learn PHP now and see that a require_once(<url for file containing the html fragment>); will have the same affect. My question is, which method is more efficient? i.e. renders faster? P.S. is there a simple way to set up testing-only server-software on my local machine so i can debug php locally before uploading them to site's server?
