Opening All Text Files In A Folder
Im very new to php and need a bit of help. basically what I have is a folder with a number of text files inside. What i need to do is open every text file in that folder and then process the information inside each text file. Im not really sure but I would assume I open the directory and place the name of each text file into an array and then loop through the array and process the contents of the text file. #open directory #foreach text file in the directory #store file name into an array #loop through array #process code
Full-text Indexing Of Pdf, Rtf, Txt, Html
I have a big pile of files on my local machine that are in a variety of formats - txt, rtf, pdf, html, etc. What I'm looking for is a script that will crawl through the files and perform simple full-text indexing on them, and will allow for queries to be executed on the index. I gave PHPDig a shot but it prefers web-based setups - my files are all stored locally and will only be accessed locally.
Full Text File Search With Indexing Service On Windows
Here's a short tutorial on how to the OLE-DB extension to access Windows Indexing Service. Impress your office-mates with a powerful full-text search feature on your intranet. It's easier than you think. First, download and install the extension (http://sourceforge.net/project/show...kage_id=198554). Simply unzip the file and copy the correct version of php_oledb.dll into the PHP extensions folder. Then add the line extension=php_oledb.dll in php.ini and restart your web server. Now, if Indexing Service isn't running on your computer, turn it on. Go to Control Panel Administrative Tools Services and configure Indexing Service to start automatically. You can also ask the little dog in the search window to do it for you if you're using Windows XP. You will need to wait a while for Windows to build the initial index. It could take a couple hours. Once the extension is installed and the index is ready, you can start coding. To connect to Indexing Service, you use the oledb_open function: $link = oledb_open("Provider=MSIDXS"); You then call oledb_query with a SQL statement. Let us start with something simple: We'll look for all files on the computer containing the word "love": .....
MySQL 5.0, FULL-TEXT Indexing And Search Arabic Data, Unicode
MySQL 4.0, FULL-TEXT Indexing and Search Arabic Data, Unicode [This version has a couple subtle edits from the orginial I posted on mailing.database.myodbc - I'm cross posting here on this topic/subject related newsgroup] I was wondering if anybody has experienced the same issues challenges I'm experiencing I'll describe shortly. Once resolved some fascinating and powerful multi-lingual apps incorporating non-English/latin character sets can be realized by many developers. I have a Unicode utf8 English - Arabic - Hebrew - Greek (and several other languages) database in Microsoft Excel. I KNOW that it is Unicode utf8 data because MySQL tells me it recognizes the encoding as such but not in the context I want. Allow me to explain ... I can search the Unicode utf8 encoding with no problem in Excel. While in Excel I highlight a complete word or a partial string of an Arabic word copy it to the clipboard (i.e. memory). I then do a find and the process is the same successful result as if it was an English string. MySQL 5.0 is supposed to handle Unicode utf8 I created a MySQL database I named: languages CREATE DATABASE languages ; and I implemented the following command on a MySQL command prompt: ALTER DATABASE languages DEFAULT CHARACTER SET utf8; No problem (so far) MySQL seemingly recognized utf8 and accepted it. My understanding is with the ALTER command the tables I create against languages will be utf8. I now created a table I named mainlang which denotes it will be the main table for my languages. mysql>CREATE TABLE mainlang ->( ->langNumID varchar(30), ->colB varchar(30), ->colC varchar(30), ->primary key (langNumID, colB) ->); Again so far no problem: Table successfully created. My third column 'colC' is where the Unicode data will be stored. I now attempt to import the database from my Excel file into my MySQL database as follows: mysql>load data infile 'c:arabicdictionary.csv' ->into table mainlang ->fields terminated by ',' ->lines terminated by ' ' ->(langNumID, colB, colC); ERROR 1406 (22001): Data too long for 'colC' at row 1 So what to do? I did a search and found other people seemingly had the same problem and someone suggested: ALTER DATABASE languages DEFAULT CHARACTER SET cp1250; I dropped mainlang, recreated it, redid the load and Lo and behold ... it seemed to work. No Data too long error occurred and when I did the following query: mysql>select langNumID, colB, colC ->from mainlang ->where colB = ' I see colA have a correct numeric value, colB a correct numeric value (4994) and for colC a string of unintelligible characters with diacritical marks, oomlats etc. which I know is the cp1250 encoding interpretation of the Unicode utf8 data which is similarly unintelligible in its own regard. Now what I try is: do a copy of the obscure colC cp1250 character string into the clipboard/memory and then do the following tweak on the original select statement to see if I can search on the (now) cp1250 character string: mysql>select langNumID, colB, colC ->from mainlang ->where colc = 'paste of the cp1250 character string' The computer would not allow a paste unless I pressed the escape key. On initiating this select command I got an empty set (no match) My questions are: Has anyone been successful creating a Unicode utf8 MySQL database that accepts Arabic? If yes, how did you get around or not encounter the Data too long issue? Have you tried the cp1250 (or cp1251 - same mechanics same results) work around as I have? Are you able to search the cp1250 character string (my colC)? If yes, how did you successfully manage to do it? Lastly, if I take the cp1250 encoded string and paste it into Excel ... I can string search the cp1250 encoding with no problem. Also, here's how I know my Unicode utf-8 data is correct apart from my own manual cross-referencing and being recognized by MySQL in some respect: When I copy the Unicode utf8 encoding and try to paste it into the select command to see what would happen I get the following error: ERROR 1257 (HY000): Illegal mix of collations (cp1250_general_ci, IMPLICIT) and (utf8_general_ci, COERCIBLE) for operation '=' So what I have here is a situation where MySQL is recognizing Unicode utf8 encoding but not from the respect of packing a table! Go Figure ...
Paging Of Folder Files

Files And Folder Copying
I am trying to write a function to copy an existing folder and folder structure but am already stuck. What I want to do is the following: Copy a default folder (default_folder) and all sub folders within it (down to a possible 4 levels) eg default folder ->subfolder1 ->subfolder2 ->sub subfolder1 ->sub sub folder 2 I have a form where the user can enter the name of the new folder and an option to confirm if they want to copy the files also located within the default folder. If the checkbox is not checked then copy just the folder structure only Can this be acheived in one function or will it be based on 2 where a set of empty folders are created and where the folders and files are copied over
What Is The Max PDF Files Allowed In A Folder?
Not sure where to put this question? I am building a book archives database with a front-end for some librarians. They want to upload book cover images onto the server (probably Win-NT). There are approximately 80000 records that will have the book cover images stored in a PDF document for each. Can I upload every PDF to the same folder? Is there some kind of limit for a folder?

Opening Files In The Same Folder..
I have a php file (1.php) that needs to open another php file (2.php) and parse it's output. 2.php gets it's data from an xml file and formats it in a pretty screen style. So what I need is something like: $fp = fopen ("2.php?file=file.xml","r"); but that wont work because there is no file called ƈ.php?file=file.xml' so how's it done?
Root Of Folder App Files
While I know putting a app into a folder was chiseled out of fine scottish granite and carried upto the top of ben nevis by php newbies many years ago - I dont think a folder is the best way to do it . The fact a script is in a folder means certain instant problems if you want to do certain things with . Assuming a script doesnt have index.php and all the script files have a filename prefix like phpgb_ then theres no chance of them clashing with anything else and theres no real reason to continue using a folder for the main script files . While the script will have a app folder for various things - does it make any sense not to use the root because of a single solitary file called index.php . phpgb_index.php is what I use and the method hasnt brought up a single problem of any shape or description . Gas lighting was once what everybody thought was the best way of doing it until that darn new fangled electricity came along .
1 - 2 Millions Files In One Folder?
I have to store over a million files, 10 - 15 kb each, in one folder. The files are created by my php script, sometimes the old files are deleted and new ones are written. So, basically on every connection my script reads/deletes/ writes files from/to that folder. Right now i have only around 300 000 files in that folder, and it feels like its getting slower for that script to work. It does work at the moment, but i am not sure what will happen when there is over a million files there... Are there any limits of files that can be stored in a folder? Would it be better for me to use mysql? I am not sure how mysql will cope with millions of writes/reads

How To Move Files To The "lib" Folder?
A client recently asked me to move a lot of code into the "lib" folder...and I'm not sure exactly how to do this without having the site blow up. I'm using Subversion and have a root-level folder structure that looks like this: * lib * logs * sql * src Currently, I have all of my web files in the "src" folder. There is a folder of include files in the "src > includes" folder. The client is asking to move these to the "lib" folder for security reasons. How do I do this?! I'm not sure how to move files outside the "src" folder and have the site still function properly.
Parsing Text Files
I have a little brain freeze going here. I can't remember how to do this. I'm trying to parse a text DB file and seperate all information in it so that I can insert them into MySQL as seperate values in seperate fields. for example, 1 | howdy | there That would be three peaces with three different fields in MySQL. I know I've done this before but can't for the life of me figure out how I did it. All I need is somebody to jog my memory and get that little brain of mine weorking again.
Upload Text Files
Its only once you've got loads of content that you start filtering what people see based on their prefferences. To get lots of content you need to get people to upload text files which end up on web pages extending your site.
Cookie Text Files
I just added some cookies to my page, and they work fine, but I just wanted to know what the lines mean when I view the file in Notepad. PHP Code:

Uploading Text Files
I'm somewhat new to this whole MySQL/PHP thing and need a little help. My web hosting service uses phpMyAdmin and at the bottom of the screen iis an area where I can upload a text file to populate a table. I have a table named groups with two fields: groups_idauto-increment primary groups_name So how do I create my text file to populate this table? I'm going to use MS Notepad. If it's set to auto-increment, do I need to include the number? If so, does it start at 0 (zero)? Would the file look like: 0,students 1,faculty 2, staff or just students faculty staff (though I can't image that working).

Create Different Text Files
I need to create a different text file every time a user registers. Currently every time a user registers there details are sent to "users.txt". So all user details are in the same text file. I would idealy like each text file to be named after the username registered. Here is the code currently being used: $username = $_POST['username']; $password = $_POST['password']; $data = "$username, $password /n"; $fh = fopen("users.txt", "a"); fwrite=($fh,"$data"); fclose=($fh);
Creating Text Files..
I want to set my access rules to 0777 so that I can delete the text file via script if I need to. I already set the folder to 0777 when I created it.. now I just need the text files. How would I set the access to 0777 when I create the file? This is what I have right now... $text= "this is text."; $fileName = "examplefolder1/example.txt; $handle = fopen($fileName, 'w'); fwrite($handle, $text); fclose($handle); Is there some way to do it in that statement?
Text Files Into Array
I'm trying to read a text file that has a bunch of names in it into an array so that I can output that array to a comma separated format. My problem is this, I do not know how to make a file go into an array, I've tried the explode function, but all that does is spit out "Resource ID" the format of the file is "1. FirstName LastName" with line breaks so the next line is "2. NewFirstName NewLastName", and so on...
PHP - MySQL - Text Files - Speed
I've got a question that I'm sure is answered somewhere but I haven't run across it yet. I've got a site with a lot of content that's being pulled from a database. Most of the content changes on a very regular basis.. I take it, push it into some templates, and render it to the screen.. pretty standard stuff.. But some of the pages have large blocks of static content. Just as an example, lets take about 50 lines of formatted static HTML. This content doesn't change very often at all. The site is already designed to push through a template, so putting the content into static HTML pages isn't an option. The question is, should I store that content in MySQL or in a text file? I figured that MySQL would be easier on the system. The fetches seem like they would be pretty easy for MySQL to handle, no complex queries. I figured that pulling from a text file would require apache/php to open the file, read the file and then close the file every time someone hit that page. Am I putting unwarrented stress on our database?
Questions On Merging Two Text Files....
