Drop Down Menu Where The Items Are From A MySQL Select Query
I am just starting programming in PHP and wonder if it is possible to have a drop down menu where the items are from a MySQL select query. I am registering people for a weekend seminar and want to have a list of valid weekends to choose from on the form. Any pointers to scripts or PHP references that will help would be appreciated. I am using the book "Build your Own Database Driven Website Using PHP & MySQL" to get me started, but also need recommendations for a general primer to php.
Select A Bunch Of Items From A Menu And Create A Record
You have a list of available items with a checkbox next to each. You want to pull together all the checked items and do a bulk insert into a table. For my example, the list is between 50 and 200 items. I can create this list very easily like this: Code:
Getting All Select Box Values
I'm running into a problem with a select box. Its values in PHP are not properly parsed. <select name="frm_owners" size="10"> <option value="1">Apples</option> <option value="2">Oranges</option> </select> Now, if I were to select both options and then output $_POST[frm_owners] on another page, all I would get is "2." But I'm looking for a comma-seperated value like "1,2." Any ideas?
Select Distinct Values In Only 2 Columns
I have a table where a customer may have multiple accounts. I want to eliminate duplicate values for Customer_ID and Account_ID -- regardless of their state or region. I tried this, SELECT (DISTINCT Acct_ID, Cust_ID), Address, City,State, Zip,Country, Contact, State_ID,Region_ID, FROM t_table but it doesn't work. This (below) does work, but it gives 2 records. One record when a person is listed once in a target state, and a second record if that person is listed in an overlapping region. SELECT DISTINCT Acct_ID, Cust_ID, Address, City,State, Zip,Country, Contact, State_ID,Region_ID, FROM t_table (this is the same as) SELECT DISTINCTROW Acct_ID, Cust_ID, Address, City,State, Zip,Country, Contact, State_ID,Region_ID, FROM t_table Is there any other way to select distinct values in only 2 columns?
MySQL Database In A Pulldown Menu

Drop Down Menu Validation Against Database
I want to do a query which selects the config.maps table.field WHERE ladder_id = $ladder_id. I can do this fine, but the next bit is slightly harder. The maps are stored as an array, separated by commas. I can explode these commas to put the maps in to an array called $maps but how can I then check that a value inputted from the drop down menu matches one of these maps? I cannot do: if ($dropdown = $maps[1] || $dropdown = $maps[2] || $dropdown = $maps[3]) { // Continue }
Horizontal Drop Down Menu From Database?
I've been searching now for months and have just given up. I've also tried to create my own menu using pre-made drop down menu software then using dreamweaver to try and get the values from a database but have had no success. I've made a CMS which allows users to greate sub menu items, and then sub-sub menu items to those submenu items. And now the final thing to do is create the drop down menu on the front end of the site. Is there a particular site or software package that anyone could point me to that is very good and allows you to create the menu's based on data in a database? So it will allow me to select which table contains the main buttons, which table contains the sub menu items, and also the sub-sub menu items.
Database Driven Drop Down Menu
I'm trying to create a database driven drop down menu. I feel I'm on to the right path but my code doesn't seem to work. I've looked around and haven't seen where I'm making the mistake. Any one care to take a look? Code:
Popup Window List Of Values To Select
What i need to do is bring up a popup window with a list of values(values looked up from the database). The user should be able to select one of the values from the list and the value then populate a text box on the calling form.
Convert CSVs To Select Option Values
I was just wondering if someone could point me to a good web resource that could help me figure out how to convert a string of comma separated values (being pulled from a database) into a select menu (pulldown box) so that the values from the CSV would automatically fill in the displayed text area of the option tags as well as the value attribute so the value selected could actually be passed as a variable. I imagine it has something to do with converting the CSV list into an array using substring parsing & then dynamically building the array from the elements of the array, but I just haven't been able to put it all together yet. If anyone is familiar with anything published on the web that might help, I'd be deeply appreciative.
Run A Select Statement Based On Array Values?
I have an array that has x number of values. I want to run a sql statement x number of times using the next array value each time. Basically I have a query that displays results based on a search. The result of the search is a list of names, the trouble is for reasons beyond my control the names are in a single db field as "FirstLast". I want to take this value and match it up to another table that has the first and last names in separate fields. So far I have extracted the results from the first query using a while loop, the resulting array is called $name_search: Code:
Dynamic List Population
how do you populate a list dynamically? for example I have the following in a table but I can't get them into the list after the query is performed. <form action=""> <select name="cars"> <option value="volvo">Volvo</option> <option value="saab">Saab</option> <option value="fiat">Fiat</option> <option value="audi">Audi</option> </select>
Form Field Dynamic Population And PHP
I have a form that dynamically generates a drop down from a table column called suppliers. Products supplied by each supplier vary so what I want to try and achieve is that once a supplier has been selected a second drop down on the same page is populated with data from the same table / different column with that suppliers products. (I am trying to avoid refreshing the page) I have not supplied any code at this stage as I am not sure whether PHP is capable of doing this by itself or whether javascript would need to be incorporated.
Multiple Dynamic Drop Down Population
I have a table with 3 pieces of data that I would like to use to dynamically populate 3 drop downs using javascript. The fields are state, orgname, office. If it's not already obvious, I'd like orgname drop down to change when a state is selected and I would like office drop down to change when an orgname is selected. I can do this with multiple tables but am having difficulty getting it to work when the data is in the same table. Below is the code to get state and orgname from separate tables(the code reflects one table and is broken in the below state). It's the best I can come up with and I can see why it doesn't work but I know there must be a way to pull all the pieces from a single table. <code> $list=$_SESSION['list']; if(isset($list) and strlen($list) 0){ $quer=mysql_query("SELECT DISTINCT orgname,org_id FROM organization WHERE state=$list ORDER BY orgname"); }else{$quer=mysql_query("SELECT DISTINCT orgname FROM organization ORDER BY orgname"); } $quer2=mysql_query("SELECT DISTINCT state FROM organization ORDER BY state"); //first drop down echo "<select name='state' onchange="reload(this.form)"><option value=Ɔ'>Select one</option>"; while($state = mysql_fetch_array($quer2)) { if($state['org_id']==@$list){echo "<option selected value='$state[state]'>$state[state]</option>"."<BR>";} else{echo "<option value='$state[state]'>$state[state]</option>";} } echo "</select>"; //next drop down echo "<select name='org'><option value=''>Select one</option>"; while($org = mysql_fetch_array($quer)) { echo "<option value='$org[org_id]'>$org[orgname]</option>"; } echo "</select>"; </code>
[PEAR:QuickForm] Dynamically Change A Dropdown Menu According To Another Menu?
I've been using QuickForm for a few months now and I am now given a new challenge: I've got a search form with a dozen of dropdown menus, the first dropdown menu being "Brand". If you select either Brand A, B, C, D... Z, the second dropdown menu "Model" must be dynamically changed to model AA, AB, AC, AD..., according to the models manufactured by the brand selected in the first box. I've seen that done on quite a few sites, but never found if QuickForm had a quick & clean way of doing that.
Retrieving Values From The Database

Database Value Select In Combo Box!
This function is intended to display the current database field value as selected.. along with other values as general options. I can't figure out how to get it work. Help is appreciated!! function retrieve_category() { $cat = mysql_query("SELECT category_id FROM category"); while ($current_row = mysql_fetch_row($cat)) { $row = $current_row[0]; if ($row == $id) { printf("<option selected>%s</option> ",$current_row[0]); } else { printf("<option>%s</option> ",$current_row[0]); } } }
Populating A Select Box From A Database
I have a subscription database that allows you to edit a subscribers data. For example, you enter a search term like "Bob" and it returns a list of everyone named Bob. You click the one you want and it goes to a subscriber detail page, where all of his data is populated to a form. You can directly edit this form and click save to overwrite it. The only issue is the select boxes (drop downs) - say I have four options in the drop down box, red, blue, green and black. On my details page for bob I end up with five, I have those four PLUS whatever was saved for his color, so it shows up twice. If Bob is green, my select box looks like: Green Red Blue Green Black How can I make it so that Green only shows up once?
Select One Record From A Database

Displaying Values From A Database From An Include
I've got a URL going to a template, e.g. www.mydomain.com/product.php?id=product_a where the template is product.php the tag after the ? refers to the product that should be displyed in the template, in this case product_a Inside the template (product.php) I've got:- <? $url = $id.".htm"; include("$url"); ?> This works fine so far. How ever I've also got an include inside the the template (product_a.php), called product_info.php, which is another php file that displays the product version and the platforms that it sits on. so in the the include (product_info.php) I have:- <?php $db = mysql_connect("localhost", "username", "password"); mysql_select_db("DATABASE",$db); $result = mysql_query("SELECT version FROM table1 WHERE id = id",$db); do { if ($myrow[0] != "") { echo "$myrow[0]n"; } } while ($myrow = mysql_fetch_array($result));?> however this displays all the version numbers within the table (for every product) I just want it to display the version number of the value of $id (www.mydomain.com/product.php?id=product_a)
Unable To Insert All My Values Into The Database

Droplists/database Values/sessions

Increasing Certain Values In MySQL Database
Each post in my announcement section has an IndexNo . . . so far I've had to do enter that automatically. How do I rig something up so that php will extract the most recent (or last entered) news post's IndexNo and increase it? The IndexNo is stored as an integer so increasing it is no worry . . . my real problem is how do I tell mySQL to give me the most recently posted news article?
Calculating Against SQL Database, Returing Values
I was interested in trying to calculate against an SQL Table and return values that matched within the calculation. What i am trying to put together is a Zip Code Locator. I have a table "AREA" of Lat, Long and Zip Code numbers for the area im interested in. I also have a table "LOCATIONS" of Lat, Long and Zip code numbers for 25 different locations with data about Store Name, Address, etc. What i would like to do is have a user input thier Zip code and that would launch one query, which would pull down the Lat & Long from the table "AREA". I would like to then Query the database "LOCATIONS" and calculate the distance between them using a formula. So it would do this. User submit--->$_POST['zip'];---->Query and bring down LAT, LON from "AREA" table--->Query the LOCATIONS table, bring down all values---->calculate LAT, LON, from AREA table minus LAT, LON from the LOCATIONS table and populate to Variables the values that were LESS THAN 5 or something.
Selective Echoing And Database Select
I have written a search engine for business listings for the company I work for. Each listing is in a database, and that works fine. The problem though is two-fold. The first part of the problem is that not all listings utilise every column of the database, and this leaves gaps when echoing the results. This is not what i had in mind, Any ideas/help would be appreciated. The second part of the problem is related to the first in that there is a link for any listing that has a website, but not every listing has a website, so every listing having a "Visit our Site" link is impractical and shoddy. Also, i'm not sure how to echo the url from the database effectively in the first place.
Editing Mysql Database Row With Select Box
I have a small site, this small site has a few categories, now I can add items through my online admin area fine and delete them fine, but when it comes to editting them I am having some trouble, everything is working fine except the category column, because it is a drop down box I do not know how to have the category selected during the creation progress selected all the other info is loaded.
Multiple Select From Database Where Clause
I have a website with a database full of category names...I want to be able to chose lets say 5 of these categories and use a select from database clause where I could simply enter the category names I want to use but am not sure how I would go about doing it. I can get the list to display just the Aprilia category using the code below: $data1->q("SELECT * FROM categories WHERE cat_name = 'Aprilia' ORDER BY cat_name asc"); However...how could I get my site to display Aprilia, Ducati, Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha?
Using PHP And MYSQL To Select From Database Using Images
I'm trying to update a main page with a list of details matching a selection from a display of images that are displayed in a small window that have been selected from an image group using a select box in the main window, however I don't know how to do this and the main page is not receiving anything when clicking on an image so it's refreshing with empty data. I've seen many many pages giving examples of how to do this with select boxes or how to do this if only one entry uses an image shown in the small window, but the image display window is displaying many different small images not a select box and the database itself has multiple entries that use the same image. Can anyone help? I have a few instant chat programs if someone wishes to discuss this with me in real-time to see what it is I'm trying to achieve.
