Selecting Item In Dropdown Menu

Im having problems trying to select a specific option in the drop down menu which has been populated with a list pulled from the 'category' table in the db. The option that needs to be selected is pulled from an id in a 'item' table, relating to the aformentioned category table.

[PEAR:QuickForm] Dynamically Change A Dropdown Menu According To Another Menu?
I've been using QuickForm for a few months now and I am now given a
new challenge:

I've got a search form with a dozen of dropdown menus, the first
dropdown menu being "Brand". If you select either Brand A, B, C, D...
Z, the second dropdown menu "Model" must be dynamically changed to
model AA, AB, AC, AD..., according to the models manufactured by the
brand selected in the first box.

I've seen that done on quite a few sites, but never found if QuickForm
had a quick & clean way of doing that.

Selecting Newest Item
I have a news page that I want to have it select the most current items by the day of the week. So if today is Tuesday, I only want all articles from last Wednesday to today.
When the article is entered into the database, I use the Date and TIME stamp, ie (2006-08-11 09:11:43) and I let the administrator assign the listing order and set the article to active. Note, some days there may be one article that day others 5, so I cant use a LIMIT 7 (the # of days in a week) approach, since that would list the last 7 article and there may be 18 that week. I can check the day by the following... PHP Code:

$dayoftheweek = date("l");
echo '<br> The day is ' . $dayoftheweek;

I know this is farily straight forward, but my searchs have not shown anything similar for me to apply.

Saving Value Of A Dropdown Item After The Submit Button
Hello. I have a drop down list :
<select>
<option>Apple</option>
<option>Orange</option>
<option>Banana</option>
</select>

The problem is once an item is selected  and the submit button is pressed, the dropdown refreshes and goes back to the first option which is 'Apple' in this case. I want the value picked to stay selected after the submit button is pressed.

Drop-down Menu Item
I am looking for a way to submit my form without having the user click the submit button. I would like them to choose one option from a drop-down list, then I would dynamically populate the next drop-down list and so on, as in car buying websites. Choose Make --> then it populates the models ---> Choose Model. I gave this a try in Javascript but was unsucessful. I prefer to do it in php if possible because the user may have Javascript disabled, but if anyway knows of a sure way of doing this in javascript, I'm also open to that as well.

Dynamically Selecting Default From Dropdown
I have a dropdown menu with 17 options that I want to use to edit a mysql entry. Before I edit it though I want to load the value of that particular mysql column as the pre-selected value in the drop down. Whats the best way to accomplish this. I figured I could write 17 if than statements but thats seems a bit tidious especially if I have more then 17 options. I'd preffer to have the code written out for the options and just add in the selected statement if possible. PHP Code:

<select name="country" id="country">
                <option value="1">CAN</option>
                <option value="2">USA</option>
                <option value="3">RUS</option>
                <option value="4">CZE</option>
</select>

If the result for country = 1 I'd like to add the selected code to the option.

2 Questions. Dropdown Menu And # Of Rows.
1. I have a table named pics and a column named name, just to let you know for use. I want to take the data from each row in the name column and insert it into a dropdown menu.

I know how I could do it, but I would have to go:

Code:
<SELECT NAME="name" SIZE="1">
<OPTION SELECTED><?php $name[10 ?>
<OPTION><?php $name[1] ?>
<OPTION><?php $name[2] ?>
<OPTION><?php $name[3] ?>
<OPTION><?php $name[4] ?>
<OPTION><?php $name[5] ?>
<OPTION><?php $name[6] ?>
</SELECT>
but then I could make too many or too less. I want it to automatically adjust to the number of rows.

2.What is the code needed to find out how many rows are in a table?

Example:

http://www.somesite.com?username=john&password=12345 What I only want is:
http://www.somesite.com/

I know that Hotmail.com doesn't show all of the pages that have been visited, all it shows in the list is hotmail.com, so I think it is possible to do this, but I don't know how.
