Connecting To SQL Server Using PHP
I am still trying to connect to SQL Server 2000 (MSDE) form PHP I did the following: 1. enabled php_mssql.dll extension in php.ini (phpinfo() shows it) 2. every dll is in proper place (System32 or php folder and few more folders just to be sure) including ntwdblib.dll I am running Apache, PHP 4.3.9 and MSDE on the same machine with Win2k SQL server config.: 1. Two instances: default SERVER and SERVERPortal 2. Both instances are using SQL auth mode, and user that I try to log in has db admin rights can't connect to any of the instances :( I tried the following: 1. specyfing the port in mssql_connect ('SERVERPortal,1433') DIDN'T WORK 2. different notations 'SERVERPortal' or 'SERVERPortal' DIDN'T WORK 3. different naming like: SERVER, localhost, 127.0.0.1 DIDN'T WORK The ASP pages that are using the same sql server work fine :| so there is a connection to the server for ASP :] So my question is what I did wrong? and another question is: How to connect to a named instance of a sql server if it isn't running on the same machine with web server, what would be the connection string in mssql_connect?

Connecting To An FTP Server
I'm creating an "easy ftp" web interface, but its turning out to not be so easy coding-wise ;) So the idea is this i will have a form on a webpage hosted on SERVER1 that prompts the user to upload a file. A form handling php script residing on SERVER1, parses the form, and uploads the file to SERVER2 (a remote ftp server), then mails somebody the location of the uploaded file. I can do everthing in this process with relative ease, but the step transfering the file from SERVER1 to SERVER2. Here is my file-handling code. <? $host = "ftp.someonesftpserver.com"; $hostip = gethostbyname($host); $conn_id = ftp_connect($hostip); if(!$conn_id) { echo "no dice"; die; } // login with username and password $ftp_user_name = "*****"; $ftp_user_pass = "*****"; $login_result = ftp_login($conn_id, $ftp_user_name, $ftp_user_pass); // IMPORTANT!!! turn passive mode on ftp_pasv ( $conn_id, true ); if ((!$conn_id) || (!$login_result)) { echo "FTP connection has failed!"; echo "Attempted to connect to $host for user $ftp_user_name"; die; } else { echo "Connected to $host, for user $ftp_user_name<br>"; echo "Host IP is $hostip<br>"; // upload a file $remote_file = $path.$filename; $file = $_FILES['uploadfile']['tmp_name']; if (ftp_put($conn_id, $remote_file, $file, FTP_ASCII)) { mail($to,$subject,$message,$headers); echo "successfully uploaded $file<br>"; } else { echo "There was a problem while uploading $file<br>"; } // close the connection ftp_close($conn_id); } ?> The code looks straight forward enough, but all im getting is "no dice" which means either the connection is timing out (90sec, not likely) or im just not going about this right. I've talked to the server's owner, and he says that i should try connecting through a certain proxy server. Should i really need to do that? And if so, does anyone have any idea how this is accomplished? I have searched the php.net manual, and the general web to no avail. Even a couple of statements that would help me debug connection part of the script would be a immense help, because right now its giving me no specific errors.

Connecting To Seperate MySQL Server Through PHP
We currently have our mySQL server on the same box as the Apache server. For security and load balancing, we're going to be moving the mySQL server to another box. We're already using a single included connection file in all of our PHP pages that has the server, username, password line that connects to the database. Aside from changing "localhost" to the IP/port number of the new server, what else should be done, especially in the security sense? If someone were to hack and be able to get access to view files, they could open that file and see the username/password. Is there some way to encrypt it or something? So far the only thing I can think of to help limit that file's exposure is to place it outside the /var/www/htdocs folder region. And of course make sure the mySQL account it's connecting to has only the mySQL permissions it needs.

Connecting To Mysql But Not Connecting
I'm including a database connection file from another website. eg. include(http://domain1.com/dbc.inc.php) is in my page on domain2.com - now I tihnk both these domains are on the same server but I tihnk thats probably irrelevant. The issue is that the file includes and runs perfectly, it says it has successfully established a mysql connection, however when I try to use that connection it says there is no connection... or more correction it says Warning: mysql_query(): Access denied for user 'nobody'@'localhost' (using password: NO) in ... Warning: mysql_query(): A link to the server could not be established in... which usually means, you forgot to include your db script dummy. now I could just create 'dummy' pages that just have include(domain1.com/pagename.php) and that would work because we do a similar thing on other pages to grab the content.

Compiling PHP On Solaris
Not sure if this is the best place to ask this, I am trying to compile PHP 5.2 on a Solaris 9 system. I need Oracle DB support so can't use the pre compiled packages on blastwave as I don't think anyof them include Oracle. The configure script is: ../configure --prefix=/usr/local/php-5.2.0 --with-apxs2=/usr/local/apache-2.0.55/bin/apxs --with-mysql=/opt/sfw/mysql --with-pear --with-libxml-dir=/opt/csw/ --with-config-file-path=/etc/php5 --with-curl --with-dom --with-zlib --with-oci8=instantclient,/usr/local/oracle/instantclient_10_2 --with-gd --with-jpeg-dir=/usr/sfw/lib And I get the error: checking for the location of libjpeg... /usr/sfw/lib checking for the location of libpng... no checking for the location of libXpm... no checking for FreeType 1.x support... no checking for FreeType 2... no checking for T1lib support... no checking whether to enable truetype string function in GD... no checking whether to enable JIS-mapped Japanese font support in GD... no checking for fabsf... no checking for floorf... no configure: error: libjpeg.(a|so) not found. BUT [/usr/local/src/php-5.2.0]# ls /usr/sfw/lib <snip> libjpeg.so libjpeg.so.62 So why is it complaining? Does anyone know? Trouble On Solaris 8
I'm installing Apache 2.2, PHP 5.04, and mySQL 4.0.21 on a Solaris 8 machine using prebuilt binaries from sunfreeware.com. My apache install went smoothly - the only thing I'm having to work around is an inability to use /usr/local - it's an NFS mount to a central image, so I'm installing in /opt/local. After installing PHP and modifying httpd.conf, I get the following error on startup: httpd: Syntax error on line 110 of /opt/local/apache2/conf/httpd.conf: API module structure `php5_module' in file /opt/local/apache2/modules/libphp5.so is garbled - perhaps this is not an Apache module DSO? Now, I have to confess that I don't have mysql installed yet, but I would think that simply loading the php module wouldn't require this, would it? A search for this message shows one other user has seen it recently, but no resolution online. No hint in /var/apache/logs - no mention of php at all in any of the logs. Any clues as to what could be causing this?

I've got Apache installed and running, and I've ran ./configure in the PHP directory with the necessary flags. However, the next step in the process listed in the guide is to do a make. BUt when I do that, this is what I get: Code: make: *** No targets specified and no makefile found. Stop. PHP On Solaris (2.6) And Integer Overflow
I have PHP version 4.4 installed on a Soaris 2.6 system and I'm getting strange results doing math/boolean operators. I have a hashing algorithm that does multiplication, bitwise operations and mod() calls interatively on the characters of a filename. On a linux platform the multiplications start to overflow (as I expect) and the overflow is just dropped. The lower three bytes are masked off like this: $result = $result & 0x00FFFFFF; and the loop continues. On the Solaris platform the multiplication fails very quickly in the loop, and it looks like the overflow bits are wrapped around onto the lower order bytes, eventually I end up with an interger value of 0x00FFFFFF because of the masking above. To solve the problem I had to compile the gmp_* function support into PHP and work with the gmp_* family of functions.

My problem is that EVERYTHING builds great EXCEPT that the 6b distribution of JPEG will NOT build a shared object, thus gd cannot include support for JPEG, thus php loses that functionality. ** Configuration summary for gd 2.0.28: Support for PNG library: yes Support for JPEG library: no Support for Freetype 2.x library: yes Support for Xpm library: yes Support for pthreads: yes Yes, I've seen the install.doc from jpeg-6b: "* If you want to build libjpeg as a shared library, say ./configure --enable-shared" Here's that output: 1 [gis 9] ~/jpeg-6b > ./configure --enable-shared 2 checking for gcc... /opt/SUNWspro/bin/cc 3 checking whether the C compiler (/opt/SUNWspro/bin/cc -fast -xarch=v9a -xO5 ) works... yes 4 checking whether the C compiler (/opt/SUNWspro/bin/cc -fast -xarch=v9a -xO5 ) is a cross-compiler... no 5 checking whether we are using GNU C... no 6 checking how to run the C preprocessor... /opt/SUNWspro/bin/cc -E 7 checking for function prototypes... yes 8 checking for stddef.h... yes 9 checking for stdlib.h... yes 10 checking for string.h... yes 11 checking for size_t... yes 12 checking for type unsigned char... yes 13 checking for type unsigned short... yes 14 checking for type void... yes 15 checking for working const... yes 16 checking for inline... inline 17 checking for broken incomplete types... ok 18 checking for short external names... ok 19 checking to see if char is signed... yes 20 checking to see if right shift is signed... yes 21 checking to see if fopen accepts b spec... yes 22 checking for a BSD compatible install... /usr/local/bin/install -c 23 checking for ranlib... ranlib 24 LTSHARED is yes 25 ------------> I am using libtool in /usr/local/bin/libtool 26 checking host system type... sparc-sun-solaris2.9 27 checking for ranlib... ranlib 28 checking whether we are using GNU C... no 29 checking for /opt/SUNWspro/bin/cc option to produce PIC... -KPIC 30 checking if /opt/SUNWspro/bin/cc PIC flag -KPIC works... no 31 checking if /opt/SUNWspro/bin/cc static flag -Bstatic works... none 32 checking whether ln -s works... yes 33 checking for non-GNU ld... /usr/ccs/bin/ld 34 checking if the linker (/usr/ccs/bin/ld) is GNU ld... no 35 checking whether the linker (/usr/ccs/bin/ld) supports shared libraries... yes 36 checking for BSD-compatible nm... /usr/ccs/bin/nm -p 37 checking command to parse /usr/ccs/bin/nm -p output... yes 38 checking how to hardcode library paths into programs... immediate 39 checking for /usr/ccs/bin/ld option to reload object files... -r 40 checking dynamic linker characteristics... solaris2.9 ld.so 41 checking if libtool supports shared libraries... no 42 checking whether to build shared libraries... no 43 checking whether to build static libraries... yes 44 checking for objdir... .libs 45 creating libtool 46 checking libjpeg version number... 62 47 creating ./config.status 48 creating Makefile 49 creating jconfig.h 50 jconfig.h is unchanged 51 [03:35 - 0.21] As you can see from line 41 above, configure is convinced libtool cannot support shared libraries. I modified the configure script to output the location of the libtool being used (line 25) and the value of LTSHARED (line 24). Has ANYONE out there successfully milked out a shared object from the 6b distribution of libjpeg ?? This is the only thing holding up my build.

Connecting To Db..
this seems pretty straight-forward.. got this code $link = mysql_connect('localhost:3306', '<uid>', '<pswd>'); if (!$link) { die('Could not connect: ' . mysql_error()); } echo 'Connected successfully' mysql_close($link); from here.. http://us2.php.net/function.mysql-connect but can't connect, get this error: Connect to db: Warning: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Can't connect to MySQL server on 'localhost' (10061) in C:xamppxampphtdocshomeconn.php on line 19 Could not connect: Can't connect to MySQL server on 'localhost' (10061) I connect to this same MySQL server from Tomcat w/no problem.. what is issue here pls... now on top of pg mentioned above, there this description: resource mysql_connect ( [string server [, string username [, string password [, bool new_link [, int client_flags]]]]] ) what does 'resource' refer to here pls... and where to do specify what db to connect to... (in java you put db-name in same line where you make the connection..) (and don't you need a driver to connect, I use a JDBC driver to connect w/Java..)

Connecting To An API
I need to use a company's API in order to try and convert video files into flash files and then play them Youtube style. There is a set API to use, but the instructions are incredibly vague, and me being new to APIs in general, I have absolutely no idea where to start to get the results. I can program basic PHP forms and database stuff, but this is all new to me. Code:

Connecting To FTP
I'm trying to connect with FTP to run a CHMOD command or whatever you want to call it with PHP. PLEASE READ THIS: http://codingforums.com/showthread.php?p=504574&posted=1#post504574 There it will explain exactly what I'm trying to do... But for now, I'll give you the 411. I've erased all coding and I'm starting from scratch just for testing. So, basically, all that coding you saw on the previous page is worthless for now. PHP.net MANUAL - CHMOD: http://us3.php.net/manual/en/function.chmod.php If you scroll down on that page, you'll see how they connected with FTP. I don't understand much of any of it... So, basically, what does every each and every part of that coding mean? How does it work when it's all put together?

Connecting To DB
I was using MySQL, but now our hosting company doesn't support MySQL so I am having to use it instead. I can't seem to connect to the DB. I have used the mssql_connect instead of mysql_connect but I get this error: PHP Fatal error: Call to undefined function: mssql_connect() in db_config.php on line 2. The hosting company seems to be a pain in the butt to deal with for tech support so if this is an error on my side I would rather resolve it without having to contact them.
