How To Get Mysql Query Result Into Temp. Txt File
I did a lite search in the archive but didn't find anything specific to my problem. Here is what I am trying to do:
I've got a table with about 25k entries of company addresses. I need to be able to pull specific data out of the table and put it in a temporary text file and then display the result in the browser for the user to save locally.
The query part and the format of the data is all simple enough but I am having trouble figuring out how to get the data from the query into a temporary text file and then displaying that file. here is what I whipped up but it obviously doesn't work: Code:

Same Mysql Query Doesn't Always Return A Result
We have no access to a mysql NG on my provider's server, so we ask here: We have a long query (long in text) with a UNION between 2 select. We have been informed that some times the query doesn't return any result. We have tried on our server and we always get a result. BUT, trying on the hosting server, many times the query doesn't return any result and doesn't get any error. Any idea ? does Union have any problem ? how to check if the query failed ? My hoster said that sometimes the table can be locked (if the server is overloaded) and then mysql doesn't return any result, but this seems to me an aberration. the query takes about 0.0050 sec to execute when it doesn't return any result, and 0.030 when I get results

MySQL Query Result Rows
Still learning the ropes of PHP/MySQL here so pardon if this is something from a 101 class. I am wanting to know if/how I can query a MySQL database, pull two rows of information and assign them individual variable names. I know this isn't too clear. Let me try to explain what I want to do. I have two joined tables: Departments - which contains the department description and a key Positions - which contains position data What I'm attempting to achieve is to display the department title in one table cell and then list all the positions associated with that department in the cell under neither the title. Creating Link To File Or Temp File For User Download
I am designing a document management system (DMS). The files are stored in a directory on the webserver. The filenames for the documents are stored in a MySQL database. The DMS will track revisions from the initial version through the updates. We must have strict permissions set so only authorized personnel can access some documents. All of the documents when uploaded are given totally random names such as "114723fb5422c6bd5ed18f6.doc". Is there a way, without the webserver creating a new file name "document_specs_ver2.doc" to have the file download named "document_specs_ver2.doc". If I must physically create a new file, how do I know when the webserver would be allowed to delete it? Notes: The files will be in several different file formats, not just "doc".

If you do not save target as and just select 'open' the temp file is zero bytes even though the download process took a while and showd how much progress you were making. When you process a PHP page, and when it outputs a HTML file, it is (in my case at least) a temporary file, saved in a "temp" directory. I was wondering how, if possible, one could get a hold of that file. I need either to load the file, or get the entire string.

File Creation And Temp Download Time
I am creating a program that is going to make a file populated with at least 20 MB of data and many people are going to be using it. I want the user to be able to download this file for at least 10 minutes and then it to be deleted. Does this have to be done via cronjob or can php write a rule to delete that file after 10 minutes? Because if this was done by cronjob it would have to be set basically to run every minute to get it right on the dot like most website do.

MySQL Query Or Include Variables From File
I have a database table that rarely changes it's values. Would it be faster to insert the variables from that table into a file (and include that file into the PHP file that needs the value) or just query the database when needed? I can run a script once I need to change the values and the script can write them to the file that is included in the PHP file that needs them. If you don't know the answer can you tell me how I can test how much time a PHP script needs to run... can I find what time it is in a desired moment in the script in milliseconds or something?

Echo A $result Of Query?
Trying to have an echo display a result from a query. Not such a hard concept. Yet I am having trouble. What good is the data without analysis. Here is what I am using to try and grab result. Populate Result Query
I query database and it produces rows of results. I want to populate it so that the first 10 rows go to the 1st page, the next 10 rows to the 2nd page and so on. Limit Query Result According To A Criteria
I have the following code which doesn't work: "SELECT COUNT(*) AS total FROM $table_name WHERE certain criteria HAVING total<=100"; The query above doesn't work and i get zero results. In general the query take lots of time mainly because the criteria is not specific enougth and I get many many hits. I want to stop the query after getting the first 100 hits according to a certain criteria. When I use LIMIT 0,100 and not HAVING i get result from the first 100 records in the table but my table contain few million records.
