Php3 On Redhat 6.1
I have never tried to get php3 to work on my home Linux PC until now. I am running Redhat Linux 6.1. Apache and PHP3 are both installed, but I don't think that they are configured by default. I haven't been able to find any information on-line specifically for this setup.

I installed yesterday Redhat 8 and configured php 4.2.2 like I did with Redhat 7.3. However, when I try to run a script which inserts or querys mysql I get a fatal error: Call to undefined function mysql_connect(). The same script worked fine in 7.3 and I am sure the syntax is correct.

PHP-GTK In Redhat 9 (installing?)
I am trying to get PHP-GTK (an addon to PHP to allow it to make GUI's) to work in Redhat 9. Has anyone gotten this to work? (If so, can you say how?) PHP-GTK seems a bit immature for Redhat right now (no RPM's seem to exist, and following the make instructions to build from source fails). This is a plain regular Redhat9 install, so I would have expected it to work without so many problems. The 0.5.2 load seems to have a syntax error in the .buildconf script (when running the configure script it makes it dies at: checking for PHP-GTK support... yes, shared checking for gawk... gawk checking for PHP executable in /usr/bin... found ../configure: line 2606: syntax error near unexpected token `debug,' ../configure: line 2606: `PHP_GTK_ARG_ENABLE(debug, whether to include debugging symbols,' 0.5.1 version had a variety of different problems during the make, and wouldnt install either. RedHat EL4, Php Upgrade
Just had a mission upgrading to v4.4.2. RHEL4 was setup using basic install and was not very easy to do. kept winging about things not being found therefor. /configure kept failing. For all peeps information, since it took me ages to work out. As each error comes up is to search for the package it complans about and install/upgrade it. Dependancies are a killer but after about 2 solid hours of upgrading packages and installing software it started working. RHN is good for the package sources for these kinds of things. I prob could have found the RPM for 4.4.2 but its far to easy and not very fun doing it like that so 442 is now running.

Getting Apache 2.0.40 And PHP 4.2.3 To Work On RedHat 7.3
We've been at it for a day now, trying to get PHP 4.2.3 to work correctly with Apache 2.0.40 in our dev environment. We successfully got it working on another server, but now we can't seem to get it to work again. anyone out there get these versions working together on Linux? PHP On Redhat Database On MSSQL Win NT
I am sure you understood a little bit from the topic what I had been working on for at least 2 months.Because the comapny I am currently working for ,sold its soul to satan ( Micro$oft ) long long times ago I am in a condition where I am ready to make any PHP 4 script run on Apache 1.3.12 and Redhat 6.2 but can not change the database option which is MS SQL 7 . Now my web server runs on linux but my database server runs on NT . I have to reach and make queries on the MSSQL 7 . I have tried many alternatives like freetds (thanx goes to John Woolbright from Omega Financial here ), sybase itself , sybase client libraries but all the time what I had was for a single query like insert and select everything runs fine but when you try to do something complex your browser returns you an error "Cannot find server dns error" which is a trivial error since I can display index.html on the same server.I have tried to use sessions and my code sucked but the same code without changing any bit of it runs on IIS server perfectly which I could not understand. Honestly I believe that IIS is not a good webserver and I can not trust it so the pathway is obvious use Apache on the old faithful Redhat URL but connect to the MSSQL to make it up and running. Does anyone on this planet know how to do it the best without using ODBC and having the minimum number of problems while running the code ? If anyone has a runnning model which has a fault ratio of .5% it is also OK for me . I am expecting your running model explanations or any comments who did the same thing and succeded. But please oh please do not tell me how to setup things if you have never tried what I currently have been doing since it was a pain in the b*t for me to try all these three platforms. Note: I did the reverse and runs perfectly URLdatabase on Linux ( Yes u r right MySQL ) and PHP on IIS.

Sessions Resetting Using SSL, Apache 2.0.4x, PHP 4.x.x And RedHat 9.0
I'm running Apache 2.0.47, PHP 4.3.3 on RedHat 9.0 on a new server. I have a series of pages that let's say pages 1 -> 3 are non-ssl and 4-8 are SSL but the URL domain is different (shared SSL). The client clicks through them from one to another in order using forms and URLs with GET vars. The client starts a non-ssl session on pg. 1 using www.mydomain.com. When they get to pg. 3, a hyperlink with an SSL URL and session ID as a GET var, they click on it to get to pg 4 which is now under https://secure ..hostingdomain.com/mydomain.com/pg4.php?PHPSESSIONID=kjsfhljdhfakdjhfladkfh PHP picks up all the session vars just fine. The person proceeds to pg. 5, then 6, then 7 all in order under the SSL URL given above except the session ID attached which was only present on the switch between pg. 3 and 4. When they click on to go to pg. 8, the session is gone as well as all the session vars. Yes I do have a session_start on every page. It seems that the previous session just disappears or resets. Now this series of pages works fine under Apache 1.3.28, PHP 4.3.3, and RH 7.3 on a different server. So there is nothing wrong with the coding since all I did was copy the pages to the new server. On the new server, I have trans_sid turned on. Cookies are also turned on and "cookies_only" is off. The PHP settings on both servers are identical. I was originally running Apache 2.0.40 which is what RH 9.0 came with out of the box. But the sessions disppeared earlier in the sequence using it. The session would disappear by pg. 6 or 7. When I turn off the use of cookies in PHP, the session doesn't seem to carry through at all. But I'm not 100% sure since I can't remember what exactly happened in this scenario. Some people say that Apache 2.0 and PHP 4.x.x run fine, but that is not what I'm seeing. I'm thinking of going to Apache 1.3.28 on the new server.

Beginner Question On PHP (redhat 9) And Variables
I am trying to work through a PHP book that I bought a year or so ago, "Essential PHP" by Christopher Cosentino. In the beginning of the book, after the Hello, World .php file, you get to a two-parter : a form that sends it's results to another .php file, that then displays those results. Nothing I have been able to do has gotten this type of passing to work. Checking the URL string for the second page, it properly shows the values : http://localhost/PHP/form_results.p...it=Submit+Query However, when I refer to $first_name or $address from the second .php file, they always render as empty (NULL). I cannot figure out why this relatively simple case is not working; I can define local variables and output them, however, I cannot pull the variables from the URL string, so I can't work with forms. I'm using a default Redhat 9 install, that came with Apache and PHP preconfigured. I have made a few unrelated changes to Apache (setting up SSL, etc) - is there something that needs to be done to get PHP to work with variables?

Solutions For Can't Use Mail() In Php 4.3.11 In Redhat Fedora 3 When SElinux Is Enabled
Looks like this is a common issue: If you installed linux Fedora 3 with the default configuration and latest patches, you will have Apache/2.0.53 (Fedora) and PHP 4.3.11 in your box. Without any change you can use sendmail, that means you can use mail under Terminal, but probably you can not use mail() in php. The error message in maillog will looks like: "SYSERR(APACHE), Can't write, ... Permission denied." I spent several days to search Google and manual, no result. With the help of ¨˘lvaro G. Vicario in this group, the solution is SELinux. Simply disable SELinux or Check the "Disable SELinux protection for httpd daemon" in SElinux config solves the problem within 1 second. Not sure if this will effect FC4 or not. I remember the php mail() works in my FC4(php5), but I can not remember during the linux install did I disable the SELinux or not. But looks like this is SELinux thing not PHP's so the version of PHP will not effect this. I have deleted the FC4 so I can not try now.

Using SSI CGI In PHP3
I have my site in .php3 and I am getting some CGI files. They are counters, polls and date information. Also stat information for graphs and such. My problem is that every CGI I get it says to put in the SSI code: <!--#exec cgi="/cgi-bin/sigfigdate.cgi"--> Well, it don't work in PHP3. Is there a way to make SSI CGI work in my PHP3 document?

I'm working with a web host that runs PHP3 by php3.cgi and don't have access to php3.ini but I need to modify the setting for upload_max_filesize. The exact version of PHP is 3.0.9. Is there anyway to override the value for just my program? And can someone explain to me what the difference is between the master and local settings displayed by phpinfo()? PHP3 And PHP4 Together
I'm a little new to the PHP thing. I want to try to setup my server to handle PHP3 and PHP4 requests easily. e.g. I have some scripts that are PHP3 and want to start learning PHP4. Instead of doing the simple (like anything I do is simple URL ) thing, I am attempting to set up apache to support MySQL, PHP3, PHP4, SSL, ColdFusion, SteelBlue, and maybe even Frontpage. Tell me I'm insane. Now I have read the "Soothingly Seamless" setup from the website, and had it mostly working, until some unforseen circumstances caused me to have to start over. I can set up Apache to use PHP4, MySQL, and SSL, but for those PHP3 scripts, I am a bit lost. Finally, my question. Is there a simple way (using the Sootingly Seamless page as a reference) to add PHP3 into the mix. Any help on this would be great!

Reauthentication In PHP3
I´m trying to reauthenticate users using PHP3 but variables like PHP_AUTH_USER can´t be unset. The only I have achieved is to obligue the user to change his name or his password using the Hidden element. However, if he doesn´t change anything the dialog box pops up until the Cancel button is pressed. Is possible to define variables like PHP_AUTH _USER that last until the session is closed? If not, is possible to reauthenticate?

Netscape And PHP3
when i search for data in MySQL and then create a link of the data returned to another page so users can click on the link and then edit the data associated with their selection, thats were Netscape fails to pass the data to the next page so when users click on the links nothing comes up except if they are using IE 4.0+ which passes the data with no plroblem. i already tried the forms in HTML and PHP but wiht no success.

Uninstall Php3?
I want to install a php4 rpm, but it says I have php3 installed already and to uninstall it. I did a search and the only thing I found was that I should delete all the php stuff I can find. I *think* it was installed binary style, not with an rpm. If I do it this way, should I edit any conf files also? Please help as I can not find anything on how to remove a binary installation!

Changing Php3.ini !!
I need to enable magic_quotes_gpc. I have learned to get to php3.ini through FTP, have changed it's value, and uploaded the file again. However, the value does not seem to change. I am running a dedicated server, and have attempted to reboot the server. Any ideas to why the settings won't change? Could permissions be a factor?

With the advent of php4, which extension should we use. A lot of php3 pages use the .php3 extension, but by deafault the extension in the apache httpd.conf is .php. Should we just adapt .php4 or use .php to make sure future upgrades don't cause any issues with already existing code. I would welcome any thoughts.

PHP3 And Define()
I know this might be an odd question, but does PHP version 3 support the define() function? What little PHP 3 documentation I have doesn't seem to contain the function, but I would think PHP 3 would support constants. I realize that upgrading and using PHP 4 and PHP 5 would give me the define() function, but that's not what I'm looking for, just the answer to this specific question. When the manual says, "PHP 4, PHP 5" and excludes "PHP 3" it's not always accurate, as there are many functions supported by PHP 3 not listed in the current manual.

.phtml Vs .php3 Vs .html
I'm looking for some advice about the pros and cons of different file name extensions for html/php documents. I'm working from the basic premise that it's not a good idea to keep changing the extension of a file because, for example, those hard-earned search engine references will be compromised if you change the name of a file in any way. It would seem shortsighted to give a php document a .php3 file extension since php4 is just around the corner. So I tend to prefer naming any document containing any version of php with the generic extension of .phtml. However, I could go the whole hog and give all my web page documents an extension of .html - whether or not they include php. But, as I understand it, the price I pay is that non-php code must now go through the php parser regardless, thereby (marginally) slowing down access to those pages. Is that a big overhead?

This all worked fine on my own machine which is using php4. but when I go to the live server which is using php3 the variable is not picked up. Even if I try using $col[1][1] it doesn't work. Help!!! Having Trouble With Php3.ini File!
I have win32 shareware version of Mysql. I can't figure out how to get the dl("php3_mysql.dll") module to load automatically through the php3.ini file. I have been to the php3.ini file numerous times trying to get all of the paths and directories correct. I couldn't get any of them to work so I'm back to what the original instructions told me to do. That was to uncomment extension=php3_mysql.dll module under Windows extensions. I did that. And then the next step was to point the extension directory to where the php3.dll modules reside. And I did that. My extension_dir = chp3. I've even tried putting the "chp3" in quotes like so. The only way I can get my php3 scripts connecting mysql to run are by adding dl("php3_mysql.dll"); before my mysql_connect code. Can anybody help me.
