Auto Fit Layer To Larger Image For An Action
I am operating Photoshop CS2 I am trying to make actions that would overlay textures to images. I thought there would be an easy solution to making the overlay image the same size as the background image BUT I cant find any advice from doing a search online. Does anyone have suggestions. I know it can be done because of some pallets that I have purchased can. But I would like to create my own.

Drawing Outside The Layer Auto-Select Layer
I have an image with 8 layers and i want to draw lines. So I make a new layer. While this layer is selected, i select the line tool and draw a line. Then, as I want to move this line, I select the move tool and try to move it. But instead of moving the line I just drew, photoshop automatically switches to my background layer (although i'm not sure it's defined as "background layer") and moves the entire content of the layer. To see what actually happened, i hid each layer in the layer palette... And still... here was my line. (with all layers hidden, is it POSSIBLE to have anything?) I tried to select my line and then, using the move tool, move it, but the message "could not move the selection because the selected area is empty"...

Auto Editing And Processing Of Images [Script/Action/Batch]
I have 30 dirs, each of them with 4 thumbs in it. I want to make one big thumb of every 4 smaller ones, by resizing and fitting them together into square. Like Thumb1 right next to Thumb2 below Thumb3 right next to Thumb4 and then save that image. Would you give me any direction how to do that? I'm with CS3. I did explore the auto and script options in the File menu, but still unable to get idea how to do that, if possible at all

Image Larger Than Specified
I started a new project. I set the file criteria for 4" wide 5" high, 300 resolution, CMYK. When I save the file as a JPEG and export it for print the image is huge. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I check the settings again, after noticing they are huge, and the settings show it's still 4" wide 5" high, with 1200 pixels wide, 1500 pixels high. What am I doing wrong? How can I avoid it on future projects, and how can I fix this project?

Pasted Image Is Expanding Into Larger Size
I am snapping from Nikon Coolpix L1 camera into 6.2 MPixel mode. When It comes to photoshop, I can see that the normal document size is, Width : 9.387 in and Height : 7.04 in (I am giving this reference from menu Image->Image Size). Now, I am reducing this document into a size of W=5.347" x H=4.01" size for printing. Taking four nos. of similar documents and trying to paste all four documents into a single sheet of size 12"x8". This is because that the printing cost of a 12"x8" paper will be least, and that is why I am trying to compose four 5.3"x4" photographs into a single 12"x8" paper. But the problem is that, when I am trying to paste (using copy-paste or drag-n-drop) any of the source pictures into destination sheet, the picture in the destination sheet is expanding and filling all the space of 12"x8". What is the problem?

Auto Select Layer
Auto select layer is not working. I accidently hit a combination of keys and now it doesn't work. I did see that in the Layers box it indicated Pass Through but I checked Normal and it is still not working. I restarted my computer twice in case it was my computer.

Group/Layer Auto-sizing
My problem: Because I deal with a lot of layers and groups I always strive to find some easier way to manage them and one of the things I always struggle with is getting everything in one group to stay a certain width or height, especially text. Desired Solution: I combine each section, such as all the elements for the left column, in its own group and label it accordingly (A life saver when trying to find and edit something ). Then when I add an element to a group I would like the predefined width restriction applied to it so that no content can extend outside that area even if I take my text tool and select the entire document. Is there any way to do this? Right now I'm stuck with using vibrant group backgrounds with the desired width or height as a guide. This isn't too bad a solution but can sometimes be time consuming, especially if there's a lot of content. If this is possible is there also some way to apply a padding to it?

Text Layer Name Auto Update
When you create a text layer, it automatically names the layer whatever you type. If you go and rename the layer, it keeps that name regardless of what you type on your document. What I want to do is revert the layer back to doing it's auto naming thing. Is there any way to doa that? I can't just do "undo". Its an old document. I know I can copy the text into a new text layer and it will name it the way I want to, but I don't want to do that if I don't have to.

Action For Copyright On Layer
Using PS 7.0 on win2K Objective - Reduce 20 images from 300dpi tif's to 72dpi jpeg [for emailing] with a copyright notice on the bottom of frame. How I attempted to make it work... Downsizing to jpeg from tif was not a problem with an action. Created a new text image- A copyright notice was made up as another separate file. Then I had the image and the text notice visible in PS. Recorded an action and dragged the copyright notice into the jpeg image. It works for the image i am working on but will not reproduce itself on subsequent images when the action is supposed to run. Can it be done when I down size from tif > jpeg or do I need to do it once they are all jpeg's? Of course the final image will be a flattened layer.

Running An Action On A Single Layer
I design wedding albums in a third party software which then exports each page spread as a layered PSD. I then like to go in and "polish" each page spread by adding vignettes or other enhancements to each image. Some very simple actions I have no problem with getting to work, however, I can't figure out how to make an action that will run on just the image I have selected and add a vignette to just that image regardless of the image size and shape. I have an action that will do this on a single non layered image but it won't work if the image is in a layered PSD because it tries to add a vignette to the entire document and of course runs into problems. Can anyone help me with creating an action that would add a vignette to a single image in a layered document?

Image Size Auto Option
tryng to resize some pictures for the web I notice under Image ---- image size a button marked Auto. Pressed it and it increased by print resolution from 91 to 266 ( whichI think is a commercial printing resolution) However when I now reduced the image in size I got a better end product. So I've searched the help file for info on what/how this auto button does but can't find anything.

Control Auto-Align And Auto-Blend
I have just moved from 7.0 to CS3 (and PC to Mac) and am currently trying to get to grips with the new features! Once which I love is the auto-align and auto-blend feature(s). My question is, is there any way to control how these features work? I have seen on some web sites people talk about 'fuzziness' sliders where you can control that if an object (pixels) appear in X% of the photos they should/shouldn't be included in the final image but I cannot find these. My intention is to use these features to take photos of monuments and have the people who are moving about removed from the final image (I guess it's the auto-align that would do this.) I tried a test and took a number of photos at home but I kept moving one object around (a pen.) The pen appears in all the images but in a different location so it always appears in the final image. When I tried auto-align with a stack that included one image without the pen, the pen was removed from the final image. Given the first scenario (i.e. the object is in all the images but in a different location) is there any way of automatically removing it using auto-align or would this have to be a manual process? In the real world, it would be possible to take a photo of a monument with people in different locations but it would be much harder (or take a long time) to take one where at least one person was not in all the photos (there's always someone loitering.)

Auto Colour/contract, My Image Goes White
I have Photoshop V7. When I open an image, then go to the image toolbar - 'adjustments' - auto colour/contract, my image goes white. Needless to say I have tried to correct this without success. I tried uninstalling the program and re-installed it but I still have the same problem.

How Can I Use Auto Color On 2 Layers W/out Flattening The Image?
I've been taking photos with a homemade lightbox which includes a white background and I typically have to go into photoshop to make some adjustments to get the background pure white. When I'm snapping a photo of an all white object against an all white background, it looks rather nasty if you use the auto color tool. So from my understanding auto color uses the lightest white and the darkest black and the reason the white/white scenerio doesn't work it because of a lack of black. So to combat this I've been creating a new layer and adding a little black with the rectangular tool and filling it with black. Now, I'd like to be able to delete this second layer once I've used the auto color feature but can't figure out how.

Image Border Action
I'm trying to script a simple action. I would like to make a frame matte around an image, fill it with black, then make a white stroke around the image but have it a few pixels away from the image itself... like this: Attachment 18286 What I normally do is just create a shape on a layer underneath the image that is the exact size of the image... then transform that shape adding a specified amount of pixels (percent doesn't work, it comes out uneven) to each value. Now, this would be fine if all my images were the same size... but I need to be able to add a set number of pixels... say 10... to an arbitrary set of dimensions (changes each time I crop).

Image Processor Won't Play Action
I'm trying to us Image Processor (Rudy's) to produce JPEGs and TIFFs, each capture sharpened using a TLR action. It runs and puts the images in separate JPEG and TIFF files, but none of the images are sharpened i.e. the action was not applied. What Gives.

Starting An Action By Opening An Image
I am currently using Adobe CS3 Design Premium with Windows XP Pro as the operating system. The computer is a self build and has 2GB of RAM, 450GB of onboard HD storage and 6x500GB of external HD storage. As a photographer I frequently end up with anything between a 100 and 300 RAW images after a days work and convert them to DNG, Tif and JPEG files. With CS2 I ran an action which opened the image in Camera RAW which then enabled me to make adjustments before opening the image in Photoshop and completing the other elements of the action. Since upgrading to CS3 I have been unable to create a similar action and having read the "knowledge based" information and looked through the topics in the forum have failed to find anything that is of help. As each image and the conditions under which it has been taken differ it is quite important to make corrections in Camera RAW before completing the action in Photoshop and fixed settings applied by Camera RAW would be inappropriate. It is always possible that I am making a fundamental error in writing the action but given my previous experience it seems unlikely. Incidentally I usually bring up the images in Bridge and then select the best images to process and start the action from Bridge.

Save For Web In Action, Resize Image...
i create an action with a save for web command, i change the image size to 400x400 pixels. But when i run the action on a larger or smaller image the image size will change proportionatly. Not 400x400pixels. If i add to the action before i save for web to resize the image through the menu commands i end up with lost resolution.

I find many references on the web to CS3 actions for resizing images. But I haven't found anyone dealing with the problem of the image orientation (landscape or portrait). I want to have an action to resize an image to 72dpi (or 96?, which is best?) and constrain the width/height to 1024pixels. Action Repeating Image On All Sides
I am trying to create an action that takes one image and repeats it on all four sides to make a square (we are picture framers and am trying to create image files of our frames from one picture of a piece of frame). I have managed to create the action to do this, but some of the frames are different widths and if I set the action to go on a smaller frame it doesnt push the image up to the edge of the canvas. It leaves a white space between the edge of the image and the edge of the canvas. I tried to set the point of origin with co-ordinates in the transform mode when creating the action, to make sure that every image went where I wanted it to, but this hasnt worked. way that I can paste an image into a new canvas and pin point where I want that image to go?

Batch Action Through Image Processor...
I am not sure if this is a change in CS4 or something that I am doing incorrectly. But when I run Bridge CS4 < Photoshop < Image Processor (running an action that I have been running since CS2) the files do not close in photoshop after running the action. In all prior versions of PSCS#, photoshop closed the file after finishing the action. The files all save properly. But having hundreds of files opened inside of photoshop causes the scratch disk to go low and slows everything down.

Image Processor And Run Action Option
I am completing the dialog executing the Image Processor on a batch of files. In section 4, I can specify to run an action. When is this action run? I can't find this documented anywhere. If, in section 3, I specify to save as JPEG and Resize to Fit and also convert Profile to sRGB, will the action be executed after all these changes have been made? That is, just before saving? I am using CS4 on Windows XP.

PDF Larger Than PSD File
In PS CS4 I have a Photoshop file that is 46 MB. I saved this same file as a PDF, but the PDF is 86 MB. Isn't the point of a PDF to be more compact? I have set the settings as Press Quality with the default settings when converting to the PDF. I did not flatten any layers, but I don't want them flattened because there is text on the page.

Larger Cursors In PS 7.0
I can change the default cusor in XP Pro but it doesn't carry over to PS. The preferences/display&cursors tab is limited. What I need is a heavier cursor or full cross hairs. I'm running 1920 x 1200 on a 22 inch Sony LCD screen. With aging eyes it's too difficult to pick up the tiny cross cursor on various photo backgrounds.

Action :: Creation Of Several Preview Thumbs From One Image
I'm trying to simplify the creation of several preview thumbs from one image. For example, my base image is a 400x600px image, and from this image I need to create the following thumbs: 1: 150x100px 2: 100x150px 3: 69x42px 4: ... I would like an Action that would Crop the base image and save a copy of each of these thumbs. I can't fugure out how to do this since I need to adjust the Marquee selection for each thumb to Crop the part of the base image I want. So can this be done? So the action is started and it pauses for each Marquee selection (the aspect ratio for the selection should not be entered each time, I need that info hardcoded in the Action) and then I can continue the Action and then adjust the Marquee for thumb #2.. and so on..

External HD Vs Larger Internal One
my internal driver is full on my laptop. I have to either buy a new external HD (500GB/7200rpm) or change to a larger internal one (500GB/7200 or 5400rpm). I am aware the external one will be lower compared to internal one. is it acceptable? I think that PS will use HD only when opening and saving the photos. It uses memory and scratch disk (configured on internal one) most of the time. I can not add the second internal HD. Only Photshop CS4 and MS office installed on this laption which is only used for PS. OS is window 7 64-bit with 4GB memory.

Larger PSD File Size In CS3
Recently I moved to CS3 from CS2. Now I notice that files I made in CS2 with particular settings weighted around 27 megabytes, 30 megabytes tops. These exact files weight 40 megabytes when saved in CS3. I think this is an ARGH!, But picture this: maybe many of you have heard that if you hide the layers before saving the PSD, then the file size will be significantly smaller upon save. I tried this tip and it worked indeed. My CS3 files do weight as much now as they should, though without the layers shown. No chance this way to look at them, manage them with an image viewer etc. is this a known and existent issue in CS3, does CS3 save and reveal some senselessly large "blind data" that CS2 could manage easily?

Larger Canvas And Fade Out
I have a large image that I scanned in with a nikon cool scan. I'd like to make some interesting proportions by doubleing the canvas width. In all the image is fades to the right to a light grey. I'd like to expand the canvas, and then fade that grey out over the new width of the canvas. how to fade out to white?

Brush Errors On Larger Graphics
I'm not sure if anyone here can help me out but I'm having some problems with my Photoshop CS. Every time I go to put a brush onto the layout header I'm working on I get a program error message (Could not complete request due to a program error) and Photoshop closes. I get a pop-up from Windows telling me it will shut down Photoshop and notify me if there's a solution to be found. I've tried three separate brushes from three different custom brush sets and sll of them have caused Photoshop to shut down. Has this happened to anyone else? If so what can I do to fix it? For some odd reason this is only happening when I'm working with large 760x350 journal headers. I was able to work with a 350x80 banner just fine. I reinstalled Photoshop CS several times but that didn't do a thing. I tried going back to the original presets (I renamed the presets folder when I moved my presets from my old computer last fall) and using a default brush but that didn't work either. I asked in a help community over on Livejournal but that didn't bring me much help. I really want to be able to use my brushes on my larger graphics. The odd thing is I'm trying to make a header for a layout that's 760x350 in size. I go to create the new graphic with that specific size and it won't accept the brushes and gives me those errors. I go to create a small banner (350x80) or a 100px square journal icon and it works just fine. It even works fine on an existing image that's 760px wide and over 400px in height. I haven't tried to start an image that size from scratch to see if that gives me the error or not. I had been getting some help from that Livejournal community but that didn't get me very far. I've posed this same issue on two separate forums and have yet to receive any help. This is a very weird and very specific issue that I need help with. Just so you know I'm running Windows Vista on my system.

Problems Getting Font To Go Larger Than Size 72
I'm using Adobe Photoshop CS2 - and I've run into a awkward problem. I cannot get it to write text in larger than font 72. When I'm trying to insert text - it has the default sizes 6-72 for font size. Other is grayed out (always is, never seen it as an option to actually choose). I've been reading multiple tutorials for help on Photoshop and many of them mention using a font larger than 72 for watermarks or whatever else may be. No matter what font I choose, other is always grayed out. I've scavaged through their help files and can't find anything even remotely close to this issue - so wondering if anybody else has run into this?

Larger Document Appears Black And...
I have just purchased Web Premium CS4. Photoshop CS4 Extended was included with the package and I installed and ran it. Sadly any large document I tried to open appears black and sometimes when I zoom in partly displays with random black lines through it. I have checked my system's specs and they all match up with the requirements. I am running Vista SP1 on a Dell computer. I have read all the knowledge base articles relating to this matter and have done everything they said (including disabling OpenGL, etc.)

Flatten Layer, Not Image
I've been using Ps for a while, but i don't really know an efficient way to flatten just 1 layer. 1 way is to put the layer by itself, but this takes time. Is there another way to do this? The effect would be changing an effect (fx tabs, strokes etc) into part of the image, so that part of the effect could be removed.

Adding New Image As Layer In PS CS4

Fade Out An Image In A Layer??
I have an ad layout I am working on for a horse owner. I have removed the horse from the background and would like to have it so that his image fades from top to bottom. I know I saw something on how to do a fadeout on an image, but I cannot find it. Any suggestions would be treated with GREAT appreciation!! Also, can this be done as a diagonal fade also???
