Automated Saving Of Files In Different Sizes/resolutions
How can saving files in different Sizes and/or different Resolutions be automated? I think of an action, but I definitely don't know how or if this is possible.

Saving As Multiple Resolutions
I have a high-res psd 3300-x5100 which I need to save as a thumbnail 200px wide and another 300px wide. Both smaller images are png or gif. I see that saving a high-res gif and shrinking the gif to thumbnail results in poor text quality. The psd has text in some layers and I've found that shrinking the psd image size does an excellent job in rendering sharp text in the smaller image. Here's the problem I'd like to solve. Reducing the psd image size brings a risk that I might accidently save the reduced psd overwriting the high-res master. This would be a disaster. There are several workarounds, saving a temp psd, reduce, save png/gif. But these take clicks, time and disk I/O. Then there's the redundant reduced psd to delete... Is there a better safe way to save lower resolution gifs?

Using Automated Actions, Then Saving As A Jpeg
using automated actions on my photos for a while, (rotate, re-size etc etc), but whenever I do this, every single time it asks me to complete the "Jpeg Options" box (compression levels). Can I override this, and just set it so it automatically saves at a particular setting? when i've got hundreds of photos to have to click "ok" on each one!

Batch Saving Multiple Sizes
I'm using Photoshop to create my web images and need to make an "Action" to use the "Save for Web" function where it'll save 3 different image sizes (Small, Medium and Large) with a suffix at the end of the file name ("_s", "_m" and "_l" respectively), but I can't seem to find any way of getting the software to add to the filename without rewritting it completely (which I have to do manually anyway). I have found the "Output Settings" dialog window and this looks to do everything I want, but I have tried everything I can think of and can't seem to get it working.

Saving PNG Files
An issue has recently cropped up with Photoshop for me. Whenever I try to create a png-24 object using "Save for Web", in the program it will tell me that the file should be only around 1kb, it will end up in the folder 10-15kb, much more than I had intended. This has only started happening recently, and when I have asked co-workers to try and export the same psd files using the same method, the exported pngs are the correct 1kb sizes. So the problem is only with my copy of Photoshop. Currently I'm running Photoshop 10.0.1 on Windows XP Professional.

Saving Files/resolution
I have changed the process of my editing. I scan in film w/nikon coolscan scanner. I don't quite know which resolution/size to save the images at. The largest print that I need is 11x14. I've been scanning in at 3200 dpi and changing the image size in ps to 300 dpi for printing purposes. Is there anything else that I need to be chaning on the ps "image size" screen? Do I save the Tiff as is and a Jpeg for my prints and a smaller file for website purposes?

Saving Files Not Recognized
I have photoshop 7 and have been using my zip drive to save my work. Got a new CD burner and works nice. But I have a dilemma. I save my photoshop graphics to the CD-RW and then close. When I reopen my file it says, "Blending modes not recognized switch to normal?" I hit OK, then it says, "this file is not compatible with this version of Photoshop." Of course I designed it in there. Now I saved my work from my zip disks to the CD and it opens them up fine, but when I change something, or alter a graphic, save and close, I open it up to the same thing. I'm just saving to my CD. Also, this doesn't work with Illustrator, but I can save from any other program and open without any trouble whatsoever, except my Adobe stuff. The manual says something about fixing software programs to work with this but I'm unclear. I need to fix in photoshop or something? I'd like to work this way as my space on my hard drive is limited right now and this CD is working good for everything else. It runs a Nero burning program and uses InCD to format the disks when I plug them in. The disks are CD-RW.

Saving TIFF Files
Photoshop 7 has suddenly started saving TIFF files without a preview or thumbnail. That is, I can't see the preview or thumbnail in Windows Explorer (Windows XP) or Windows Picture & Fax Viewer--which says "no preview available." This just happened--I've just saved dozens of pics in TIFF with previews. I tried resetting my Photoshop preferences--no change. In the File Handling Preferences, for Image Previews, "Always Save" is selected. When I save an image, in the "Save" dialog, "Thumbnail" is checked (and grayed out). However, if I try to open a file from within Photoshop, in the Open dialog box, when I click on the file, I do see a preview.

If I try to include the save process during my action, it will always save with that file name no matter what file it's saving. how do I add a "save file" step to my action so I can automate this process with many images?

Saving Transparent Tga Files
I've been using Photoshop 7.0 for awhile now. I haven't upgraded to any other version yet because the original 7.0 actually has a certain bug in it that has been very useful. The bug has something to do with transparency, alpha channels, and TGA files. Somehow this bug lets me save transparent TGA files without creating an alpha channel. All I have to do is save the image as 32 bit and it will come out exactly how I made it. No white backgrounds, just smooth transparent edges. Its easy since I don't have to waste time manually painting a black/white map. I'm wondering if theres a way to do this in the newer versions, but after trying the demos it seems like there isn't. I don't know much about alpha channels, but I make dozens of TGA images with clear backgrounds so I really hope there is an easier way around this. To have to manually color the clear/solid areas with a paintbrush and lasso for each image seems like a nightmare. I wanted to get CS4 but I think it would be easier to just stick with this old version for this reason.

CS3 Error Saving Files
When I try and save a Photoshop file, I get the following error message:- Could not save (filename). because the file is already in use or was left open I have rebooted my computer, rebooted our server, un-installed & reinstalled Photoshop and also done a system restore, and I still have the problem. (The system restore actually caused huge problems I got the error message The licensing subsystem has failed catastrophically. You must reinstall or call customer support, except I wasnt able to reinstall or uninstall the product. The computer just would not run the installer. I had to undo the system restore.) I can do Save For Web with no trouble and I can save files to the same location with every other Adobe product installed in the Web bundle, just not Photoshop. We have 2 machines here with an identical set up (hardware and software) and the problem is only on one machine. Even though Photoshop says it cant save the file, its actually saving the file in the following format:- ~psX.tmp where X is a random variable, either characters or numbers. I have to manually open My Documents and rename the file to filename.psd so I can access it again. Short of reformatting my computer (which Im not keen on doing because it will mean several wasted work hours and I will have to pay our IT people to come in and hook me back up to our network),

Saving Psd Files With Thumbnails
I convert RAW images into grayscale in CS3 using Adobe RAW conversion. If I then SAVE AS in pdf, often though not always, there is no thumbnail when the file is viewed in Bridge, and it will not display in Bridge. It does however load up from Bridge into Photoshop normally. I have looked in Edit Adobe PDF Presets. The default preset is High Quality Print which has embedded page thumbnails OFF. I cannot change this to ON. Is this the problem area? When the dialog box for Save As comes up and I select Photoshop PSD, the check box for thumbnail is grayed out.

Saving And Opening Psd Files
I use PS CS4 for photo editing and digital scrapbooking. For the past few weeks I have had some issues opening layered psd files of digital layouts that I have saved. They save properly but when I open them there is nothing but a black document with a red stripe going across the top. Can someone please help? Here are a few screen shots of what I am getting. In the first one you will see that the thumbnail is an actual image of the document and the second one is a screen shot of that document when I open it. ETA: This does NOT happen all the time. I have successfully saved and opened some psd files since having this issue for the first time a few weeks ago. I just can't seem to pinpoint what has happened prior to the psd file not opening properly.

Saving Files In JPEG In Batches
I try to save a few files in JPEG format in batches: 1. First, under Action, I open a file and include what functions to perform 2. then I save it in JPEG format which prompted a dialog box that asked for quality. 3. after I'm done creating the Action, I run the Action in batch mode. But for each file, Photoshop generates that JPEG save dialog box for quality. this means that I have to click or press enter for every single file even while Photoshop is processing in batches! So how do I supress that dialog box when running in batch mode and let photoshop save everything in JPEG format without pausing and at the quality I have determined when I created the Action? I'm using Photoshop 7.01 on windows

Significant Problem Saving Files In...
I am running Photoshop CS2, with Windows Vista Home Edition. My problem is a new one, as Ive been running the program the exact same way since I bought it several years ago. Two weeks ago I bought an Intuos 3 tablet, and installed the software that came with it (including Corel Painter Essentials), and updated the drivers for Vista. After doing so, the appearance of my save menu changed in photoshop, but everything still ran properly. Yesterday when I tried to save a file that I had opened and modified (a photoshop file, not .jpg), Photoshop stopped responding. I did not receive any error message, the program simply froze, and refused to respond. I gave it more than five minutes before shutting it down. This has happened three consecutive times. I can save a new file, (using the save as function), but anytime I attempt to merely save (either using control-s, or by selecting save from the file menu) Photoshop stops responding.

IE; what should be image50.jpg is image01.jpg and vice versa.. basically its doing the naming in reverse. I never had this problem in PS7, only since moving to CS2.

Although it appears to be saved within a folder of choice; when I look into the folder to view as thumbnail it is not available to view nor does it load into CS- paticularly in PSD format. The only thing I thought to do to try and help myself was to "Reset tools" to default status -to no avail. Are there any options that may resolve this issue other than uninstall and reinstall CS ?

Using Actions: Saving Files With Consecutive Filenames
Question about saving images through an action. According to the 7.0 help manual, I should leave the filename as the default if I want my files to be saved with consecutive names (i.e. image01,image02, etc). I created an action to do a number of things before saving my file.. everything works great except that photoshop keeps saving my file as 'untitled-1.jpg,' which overwrites the previous file of the same name. What can i do? Feel free to IM as well.

If a pupil logs on and opens a new file does some work and then tries to save in a photoshop file format this will work the first time but on a second attempt if they save as another file with a new file name it will say there is a copy of that file when clearly ther isnt. If they say that they want to copy over the file it will save the file but photoshop will not open that file again unable to open wrong file format. anybody have any idea why photoshop may be acting like this it seems to be a file format issue..

Need Seperate Actions For Different Resolutions
I've got ton of 50mb tiffs I need to reduce to small jpegs and watermark. But I made an action and the watermark looked great on some and microscopic on others. The files that had a resolution of 4000 (from slides per scanner) were fine. The files that were shot digital -- resolution of 240, watermark was microscopic. So only solution is to make seperate actions correct? (what a hassle) Seems so stange in that the files are all same size more or less in size and the resolution really only matters if you print the dang thing, which I'm not doing now!
