Batch File Size Conversion
I have an older version of Photoshop, (7.0), but I'm sure the Batch Conversion Process is similar with all versions. I have a folder of photos, (large file sizes), I'd like to reduce each file size to a little bigger than a Thumnail size. This is hopefully something I can do bysetting the same parameters to all the photos. Here's what I've figured out (so far)FileAutomateBatchChoose Source FolderChoose Destination Folder That's about it - when I choose both folders, I can't seem to pull up the parameters to reduce the file sizes.

Batch Resizing Based On File Size
I have about 1000 images that need to all be resized to 5MB. All the images are in different color modes, have different resolutions and pixel sizes. Is there any way to make an action to resize image to 5MB? I don't care about pixel dimentions or resolutions, I just need all the images to be 5MB. I'm running Photoshop CS 2 on Mac OS X 10.4

Export Fixed File Size With A BATCH Automation
does anyone know if it's possible to export a desired (fixed) file size with a batch automation in Photoshop? For example: I have 50 images (*.jpg) that have different file sizes (25k, 15k, 45k etc) now I would like to export a fixed file size to 10k for all images... I have tried this in Photoshop and in Fireworks, but the Programs exported 10K or less and sometimes even greater than 10k I would really be happy if someone knows a way to do this or if there are any stand-alone programs that can automate and export targeted file sizes.

Batch Conversion Action
I'm using Photoshop 7.01. I have a bunch of 16-bit TIFFs that I want to batch convert to 8-bit JPEG FINE. I created a manual action, which works fine, hook it up to F2 and open up 50 tiffs at the same time. Start hitting F2 and the files disappear and I end up with a nice bunch of jpegs. Now I want to automate it, so I create a new action. Open TIFF Change to 8-bit Save as jpeg Close When I run a batch, choose a source folder and target folder, and kick it off, I see all the files open and close, but only the first one (used in my example to create the action) ends up as a jpeg, followed by a bunch of TIFFs. As far as I can tell, the action opens all the files one after the other, but it always saves the same file. So, in my output folder, I get 1 JPEG followed by 250 different TIFFs, but the JPEG always appears on my screen for a split second during the save sequence, so it looks like it is being saved 250 times...

Batch Conversion Of All Photos To 8x6 Ratio
I have a folder full of images and I'd like them all to be in the 8x6 ratio, with white as the background if any canvas size needs to be changed. I can do a batch and make every picture a canvas size of 800x600, but if the original is 1100x240 that doesn't help me much, I'll loose alot of the image's width. So I just want to convert the image's canvas size to be in the ratio of 8x6. Is this possible with Photoshop CS or Photoshop CS2?

Canvas Size + Resolution= File Size?
Can someone please explain to me about file sizes and image dimensions. I have to put together a collage which is 165mm high by 258mm wide. If I click file new and choose default resolution (72) then the file size is ok, if I type in 300 dpi the image becomes huge. If i chosse 300 dpi then the images I was going to use seem tiny on such a vast workspace - Im confused why does the canvas become so large when changing resolution?

Batch Resize To Specific Size
I have a folder of images that range in size... but for the most part they are all smaller than the actual size I wish them to be. (For example: some are perfectly at 250 x 250. Some are 65 x 250. Some are 128 x 180. The point being that they all vary. ) What I need to do is have these images created and outputted at a size of 250 x 250. Every single one of them. Unfortunately I have 5000 that need to be resized. What I would normally do is create a new image at the size of 250 x 250 (background white) and import the smaller one (let's say 128 x 180) and center it. Then save the new one. Easy. However, I would like to know how to do this "en batch". I'm sure it's possible, but I have very little experience with Photoshop.

Image Size Vs File Size
When I save a file to jpeg the image size in photoshop remains the same as it was as a tiff file BUT according to the information that comes up in windows properties the file is much smaller (300k vs 2.9mg).  Can you advise me which is the correct file size?  If the correct size is the one showing in windows (300K) does mean that the file compressed in JPG and lost a lot of information?  and if this is the case how can I prevent that from happening and still save the file as a JPG?  [ I would like the image to remain the size photoshop shows it to be] . Thank you very much.

Batch Image Resize From One Size To 3 New Diff Sizes, Possible?
I got stuck doing a grunt job for the company I work for. I really need some automation to get this done faster. Problem: I have multiple folders.. in each folder contains a small image called 100x100.jpg I want to run a batch process using a created action to take the above file and instantly resize it 3 different ways and save all three files. I created an action doing the resize 3 times.. I made 120x120.jpg, 90x120.jpg and 88x88.jpg from the first one so now there's 4 files in that folder. Imagine having to do this manually for 30 websites, 30 folders each. So, I keep getting the REPLACE FILE? popup.. it worked fine when I did it recording the action. But when I run the droplet or batch, it won't write the files to the folder and seems like its replacing or trying to overwrite something.. doesn't make sense.. and I need to do it recursive style.. all folders inside one root folder.. so the batch operation should go into all folders, resize the image creating 3 new ones, for each subfolder.. saving them in their respective folders, NOT a new destination folder.. again, each 100x100.jpg has its own folder, there's 30 folders, each with one of these files in it.. diff pics of course, just same filename.. Please, if someone can give me a step-by-step to try, I'd truly appreciate it.

Batch Converting RAW File
I'm not sure it's possible but I'm trying to batch convert a bunch of RAW (NEF) files to JPG. Altering the file extension in bridge doesn't seem to work. Although it does convert the file name, photoshop does not recognise the file format when trying to open the jpg. Is this process possible or is there a way I should be doing this? I have 300 RAW files and don't really want to open each one up individually and convert to jpg.

No XMP File In Batch Process
When I open and save a RAW file as a JPEG by hand, I always get a XMP file that tells me the RAW settings. Actually the XMP is generated as soon as I "open" the RAW file. When I do the exact same steps in a batched action, no XMP files result. I just painfully batch converted 4000 RAW files, no XMP files. Why doesn't PS generate the XMP files?

CS Batch And Images Sorted By File Browser
I've read that among the new functions Adobe added to the CS File Browser is the ability to sort selected images on a number of fields, for example date/time created, file size, image width, height, etc. Question for CS users who use Batch... Once images are selected and sorted in the desired sequence using the CS File Browser sort function, does this mean that when one invokes the Batch dialog (either from the FB menu or the File > Automate menu and Source=File Browser) the images will be batch processed in the sorted order? In PS7 (and earlier versions) the order of batch processing has always been in alphabetical file name order.

Batch Process: Add Alpha Mask From File
I did a search for this, but couldn't find anything. If there is something, please feel free to send me in that direction. I use Photoshop a lot for my 3D work. Usually, when I render an image sequence out, I have the mask saved in the alpha channel. Unfortunately, ZBrush doesn't allow me to do that, and instead saves the mask out as a separate image. I need to add the alpha mask to the color plate file. Is there any way to do this with batch processing?

Making Photos Web Ready In An Automated Batch File
I've got a number of images that are 300dpi which I need to save for the web. I've been able to take one image and change the dpi to 72 and then go into Image Ready and shrink the size some more. I've tried to automate the process but after I run a batch I actually get the files back double their original size. What might I be doing wrong here? I'm using PS 7 and, while in no way a professional, I can get by... except for this bit obviously! So, what's the best way to automate the process of turning my files into nice, lean web-ready images?

File Size
I purchased the photo CD from my wedding photographer. When I got it I noticed that the size of all the photos was between 600KB and 1,200KB. I went back to the photographer and told her the file size was too small. She claimed that when you open them they get really big; around 20MB. Anyway I went to her office and asked her to demonstrate that for me, and she was not able to. Eventually she agreed to give me the photos right off her camera which were around 4MB and above. The first time they printed it out, some of the photos were washed out. The photographer agreed to have it redone. At this point we are about ready to print it again. Before doing so I asked the photographer for a screen shot from windows explorer, showing the sizes of the original photos they used in the album. Sure enough they were all the same size as on the original CD she gave me. Most of them were less than 1,200KB. I want to ask the photographer to switch these out for the higher resolution photos she gave me the second go round on the CD. I think she is going to argue that it does not need to be done. The album designer in China also said that when the photos are opened in photoshop they get really big; up to around 20MB. does photoshop really have a mechanism to compress files down to less than a megabyte, and then decompress up to 20MB? Will I have print quality issues if they are using photos that were less than a MB? Unfortunately on the CD all of the pictures of the wedding party and the family have a big sunspot in the bottom left corner. Is it an indication that she did not use a lenshood?

File Size Changes
1. When I shoot a picture in RAW, it comes out of the camera at a certain size, say 10 megs. When I bring it into Photoshop (while bypassing the RAW converter by holding down the shift key and hitting 'enter'), the image size is 57 megs...even before I do any processing whatever. What caused the file size to go from 10 to 57 megs when the only thing I did was to simply open it in Photoshop? 2. If I shoot 10 RAW images, they all come out of the camera a different size, e.g., 9.7 megs, 10.2 megs, 9.8 megs, etc. Since the sensor in the camera is the same, why wouldn't each image come out the camera the exact same size when shooting in RAW)?

Larger PSD File Size In CS3
Recently I moved to CS3 from CS2. Now I notice that files I made in CS2 with particular settings weighted around 27 megabytes, 30 megabytes tops. These exact files weight 40 megabytes when saved in CS3. I think this is an ARGH!, But picture this: maybe many of you have heard that if you hide the layers before saving the PSD, then the file size will be significantly smaller upon save. I tried this tip and it worked indeed. My CS3 files do weight as much now as they should, though without the layers shown. No chance this way to look at them, manage them with an image viewer etc. is this a known and existent issue in CS3, does CS3 save and reveal some senselessly large "blind data" that CS2 could manage easily?

File / Image Size
When creating a Photoshop file I understand how to calculate the document size, ie, No of Pixels / Resolution. I also understand that the formula to calculate the number of pixels in a file is size in inches x dpi. What I'm not sure about is how the number for pixel dimensions which can be viewed at the top of the Image Size window in Photoshop is calculated. For instance if I create a file that is 1500 pixels wide x 900 pixels in height with a resolution of 300 ppi it gives a pixel dimension (file size??)reading of 3.86M. I had always assumed this was the actual file size! However when I right-click on the file and see the file size it is much smaller.

I've been making many brushes lately. I do the usual process of selecting the image and defining it as a brush, but when i go to save the actual brush i made.. it always saves at 8.24 MB. I've tried huge sized brushes and brushes that are 1x1 pixels. It usually saves at a file size of around 8.24MB. Why is it saving at such a high size when there's barely anything to save? How can i lower the file size of the saved brushes? edit: i thought i'd clarify.. when i save the brush, it's to .abr format and everytime i save the brush into an .abr format-file, the result is the file consisting of ~8.24MB.

Resizing And File Size?

Should i change the resolution to 72dpi? which makes it 307x230 with a file size of 207 kb. But how come when i tried to change the pixel dimentions to 307x230 (leaving it at 300dpi) the file size was the same at 207kb? how should i really resize photos? how do i deal with the resolution, pixel dimensions and document size? 2) In saving graphics to be uploaded to a website, whether a resized digital photo or an original artwork, what format do i use? Jpeg? Gif? Png? I normally use Jpeg but what confuses me is the jpeg options, whats should i use Baseline Standard or Baseline Optimized? Another thing, how high should the quality be, im afraid to set the quality to high because it might take time to view on the webpage but i also dont want to sacrifice the quality.

Gradient And PNG File Size
I can create a layer and put a gradient directly on the layer. Or I can create a gradient via an effect (this seems to hold true for lots of things). It seems easier, at least for a newbie to be working with effects in that they can be edited or adjusted. When I drop a gradient directly on the layer, unlese I'm doing something wrong, the only way I can alter it is to delete it and then reapply a new layer. If my understanding is correct, here's my question. I want to have as small of png files for a web site as possible for typical reasons. Does the method used to apply the gradient have any impact on the PNG file size?
