Cropping To Maintain Aspect Ratio
When cropping a photo, is there any way to maintain the aspect ratio? I seem to end up with odd sizes that are hard to print.

Custom Aspect Ratio Cropping
I want to crop a picture to fit my new 24" 16:10 monitor. The res is 1920x1200. I don't want the picture to be stretched in any way, but I'll accept decreasing the resolution to fit my 1920x1200. So my question is, can I force the crop selection to turn 16:10?

"Maintain Aspect Ratio"
Photoshop file I have to click on the little chain link icon in the context menu, the one that says "Maintain aspect ratio". I almost NEVER free transform without maintaining aspect ratio. Is there somewhere I can set this to be "ON" by default? I know I can maintain the aspect ration by holding Shift as I drag, but what I want is to NOT have to do that because of a disability in my left hand. editing the registry so that this option can be ON by default?

Using PS CS4 WinXP Pro SP3 platformI would like to create a faux panoramic photo from a traditional photo. I know that the panoramic aspect ratio is 2:1 or greater. My image was taken in the standard 3:2 aspect ratio. I have plenty of dead image area both above and below.

Aspect Ratio Change?
I just joined and I'm a complete newbie at Photoshop, though I'm fairly interested in it. I was wondering if it's possible to change the aspect ratio of a 5:4 (1600x1200) image to 16:10 (1680x1050) without stretching the image or contorting it. I've tried resizing, but all that does is screw up the image and/or make it look all crappy.

Pixel Aspect Ratio
Since installing Photoshop CS2, whenever I open a file (.tiff), PS selects the incorrect aspect ratio (a custom ratio of 0.5, when in fact the file is meant to have an aspect ratio of 1.0). 1. Is the aspect ratio stored in the file as an attribute, or does Photoshop guess the ratio from some other attribute? 2. Can I force PS to open all files with an aspect ratio of 1.0? In older versions of Photoshop the files opened correctly. When I open the .tiff in a text editor, I can't find any attribute named 'aspect ratio' or somesuch.

Pixel Aspect Ratio
I'm running Photoshop CS2 (9) on XP pro. I have a bunch of tiffs made from scans of 36" x 48" documents. They all are coming in with a strange distortion. A box pops up: "Pixel aspect ration correction is for preview purposes only. Turn it off for maximum image quality." I know how to turn it off, but I cannot afford the time to save 144 huge files. Can this default be reset? To reset this default to "square", I have tried everything short of deleting pixel aspect ratios. I never want anything but "square". What will it hurt to delete pixel aspect ratios?

New digi-camcorder records at 16:9 (I have a w/s TV. I need to incorporate many stills. All stills edited using p'shop 6. With TV aspect ratio set to 16:9 movies are great, stills are ssttrreettcchheedd. I need to change the aspect ratio of my stills by a constant factor so they are 'squeezed' when viewed at 4:3 (ie on my computer monitor) but expanded to the correct ratio on the TV. I use a digi still camera for pics (and no, it doesn't have a 16:9 option and no, I can't afford one that does).

Pixel Aspect Ratio
I'm using Photoshop since the Photoshop CS versions. However I'm quite unpleased to see the following since I installed Photoshop CS4 from my university (it's a legal version). I can't seem to draw simple circle. (Yes, I pressed in the Shift button to draw perfect cirlces and squares) I get the following: This is not a circle and my grid lines aren't even like squares they're more like rectangles. Now some details about my monitor. It is a 15,4 (if I'm correct) widescreen laptop, at the resolution of 1024 x 768. I didn't have this kind of problems with the CS3 version (which is also legal). So I though let's check the pixel aspect ratio, however normally I set it on "square" and this problem will be fixed. Now if I set it on square I get something like that image I posted. So I tried removing the pixel aspect ratio correction, but it didn't help, because it is disabled on square.

Pixel Aspect Ratio
CS2 and happy with it. Newly installed HP 22" widescreen. Getting to grips with Pix Aspect ratio for first time I have found out how to set a ppi value that produces accurate "print size" previews. However, I edit down from hundreds of sport pictures regularly and want to see an accurate ratio display - it affects the dynamic of the picture IMVHO. There isn't time to go dragging sub menus around. I'm quite happy with less display space or to use the spare for menus but am finding Win Vista has ideas of its own about what's best for me. Upsum - I want all photos to display with accurate proportions (final use - print). Any advice on screen /photoshop set-up to achieve this would be welcome.

Image Issue - Aspect Ratio
I have run into an aspect ratio (i.e., 1.25 vs. 1.33) issue for my images (using PhotoShop and/or Microsoft PhotoEditor): I've created documentation for nearly ten years for an older type company using a CRT monitor. The monitor allowed me to use all resolutions when working with images without any screen degradation. Generally I used a resolution of 800 by 600 but would change, if necessary, due to the project. At this point, I've been given a new LCD monitor and am at the mercy of its native resolution (i.e., 1280 by 1024) even at a higher DPI. In other words, if I work with images and text other than its native resolution (i.e., highest resolution), their appearance is distorted and/or blurred. Since my documentation is image and/or graphics intensive, this is an issue for me to consider. The first issue regarding this change came about this week. I was asked to revise a section of a manual I created awhile ago. Thus, I found myself saving images in a screen resolution of 1280 by 1024. The original document saved images in a screen resolution of 800 by 600. I feel I can get away with things if its only a few images. However, if I have to revise complete sections; I just don't think things look consistent. For one thing, I'm now using ClearType Font on the LCD monitor vs. the old CRT. I would like to see if there is a way to somehow change an image saved in 1280 by 1024 screen resolution to 800 by 600 (with similar quality when revising documentation). If not, I think I'll inquire about using two monitors at my desk - using the CRT for revised documentation and LCD for new projects. Agree/Disagree with this scenario?

CropTool--Aspect Ratio Or Measurement?
When I crop them I have set the crop tool to 4x3 thinking that's the aspect ratio of my screens at least. IN crop tool am I specifying an aspect ratio or the units my image is in in PS CS [pixel or inches or cm- Inches in my case]? Also, it just occured to me, what happons to the image if the user has set thier resolution to something other than 4x3 ratio, e.g. 800x720 ?

I have just started to get a prompt when I open some images I have downloaded from the stock exchange website. "pixel aspect ratio correction is for preview purposes only. turn it off for maximum image quality" I have never had this problem before and now it is doing it on some pics and some it isnt. Print And Actual Aspect Ratio
I am working on an graphic email that is going to be sent out to different companies. Ok to my problem: I got the image size down enough to be a decent email size. Problem is that I am working at 300dpi in order for the small text on the prints to be legible. Ok now I am using 8x10 inches as size but at 300 dpi is way bigger in pixels so when I insert it into the email the images is huge. Ok what I am trying to do is: I want the view size to remain at about 8x10 but I want the dpi to remain at 300 for printing quality

Pixel Aspect Ratio Correction
a setting enabled it so the "pixel aspect ratio correction" setting is turned on and I can't seem to turn it off. It basically scales the image when I open it up. I can turn it off so each image that I open in photoshop is reset back to normal, but I can't figure out how to take off the setting completely so it doesn't scale it at all.

Constraining A Crop To A Specific Aspect Ratio?
Is there a simple way to constrain a crop to a certain aspect ratio? I have a bunch of cropping to do and the results all need to be 5:3. Resizing Image To Specific Aspect Ratio...
I'm trying to resize some images to a specific Aspect Ratio of 524x250. I was told to divide the height of a image by the width then you get a number and with that number you multiple it by the height then you put that resulting number into the canvas sizes width. It has been a while since I've done this brief calculation and it's not working for me, or I've wrote something down wrong. I'd also would like to create an action so photoshop could figure this out automaticlly, basically I'd like to know how to do it manually then how to create an action so it's done automatically ?

Pixel Aspect Ratio Correction Keeps Defaulting ON
DVD menu where I went File > New > NTSC DV Wide to create the document, as per the video house's instructions. Now everytime I open ANY file, old or new, a warning pops up to let me know Pixel Aspect Ration Correction is on and to turn it off if I don't want it. This means dozens of times per day, I have to go View > Pixel Aspect Ration Correction just to turn it off. I can't figure out how to turn this crap off permanently. Why the hell would it default to ON just because I used it once?

Pixel Aspect Ratio Issue When Converting Tif To Pdf
I have a bunch of text images (I e-mail faxed myself a paper I don't have an electronic copy of, page by page), that are in tif format. I need to convert them to pdf. I try doing it the ways I normally do (either "Save as" or print to "Adobe PDF" from photoshop), but when I look at the pdf file the text looks squished from the bottom and top. I think this might be related to something called the "pixel aspect ratio" (when I open the images in photoshop it tells me that the pixel aspect ratio is for preview purposes only, or something like that), but I try going to Image > Pixel Aspect Ratio to set it the way it appears, but it doesn't seem to make a difference.

PIXEL ASPECT RATIO For Stills From HDV Video
We are shooting a movie on HDV video, editing it in Premiere Pro 2.0, and need to print "production stills" pictures from frames of the video. The problem is, they print as "squished" instead of anamorphic wide screen 16x9, which is how the video is shot. (We have Adobe Production Suite Pro 2) We export the frame as a .bmp in Premiere Pro 2.0, then open it in Photoshop CS2. We can view it on the computer just fine by using IMAGE | PIXEL ASPECT RATIO | HDV ANAMORPHIC. But, of course, the "Pixel Aspect Ratio Correction is for Preview Purposes Only". How do we "permanently" correct the Pixel Aspect Ratio so we can print the images in their 16x9 anamorphic ratio? We also need to de-interlace the pictures.

Maintain RAW File As Per Original
I open an image in ACR, make adjustments to it. I open the image in Photoshop, and make a Duplicate. I close the first image (Not the Copy), and select "NO" for "Do you wish to save changes" I go back into bridge, and view the RAW file, and though I selected "NO" for changes, the image retains the changes/adjustments made in ACR. Is there any simple way to return the RAW file to the original state as it appeared prior to ACR adjustments? The only way I've found to do it is to keep separate files of the original RAW files on another drive.

Maintain Drop Shadow When Resizing
I have several rectangular images each with a drop shadow. I need to also make thumbnails out of the same images. When I tried reducing the sizes of these images, I got inconsistent results regarding the drop shadows. Sometimes they grew, sometimes they got smaller. Is there a way to reduce the size of images with drop shadows that keeps the shadows looking the same (relatively) as the original size?

Maintain A Fixed Radius Of Rounded Corners During Transform?
i'm trying to design a layout using slices and such for a website. i'm using the vector objects and layer styles inside Photoshop CS4. Problem is that during resize, all rounded corners get distorted and do not maintain shape or radius, is there a way to prevent rounded corners from distorting during transform? otherwise this seems way too tedious to be an effective method of creating a layout that may need adjustments later, since things will need to be recreated. I'm used to working with parametric CAD (inventor/solidworks), so i'm like a fish out of water without geometric constraints or ability to re-spec existing objects without remaking them...takes me back to the days of autocad.

Convert Excel To PDF; How To Set Print Area And Maintain Hyperlinks?
I am converting an Excel spreadsheet to PDF using the PDFMaker macro. How do I set a Print Area and still maintain hyperlinks during the conversion? You seem to have to choose between defining a Print Area OR maintaining hyperlinks. Is there a way to get both? If I select a Print Area before invoking the PDFMaker macro, I get this message: Acrobat PDFMaker cannot create Tags, Bookmarks and Links for Worksheets with Print Area other than 'Entire Sheet'. Clear the 'Print area' field in Page Setup to get these features. Do you want to proceed and creat a PDF file without Tags?

Crop Ratio In CS3
I cant define a ratio in the crop dialog box. I leave the resolution empty because I dont want to resample. I just enter the value in the width and length box (just numbers without units) and crop. But it will still crop the photo with the default unit.

Sizing A Ratio 2:3 And Printing
ive search and i m all most sure that there is a thread somewhere here to answer this question but i cant find it - if you know please point me in the direction. Otherwise here it is.: Yesterday i went to my lokal photo/printing store asking them to print some 15x20 cm!! pictures with a white frame - probably !/2 cm in each side. Im shooting with a d20 canon(just purchased it) wich has a crop factor. Thats why he told me to go home and resize my pictures(make 2:3 ratio) to actually fit a 15x20 cm. But as i see it 15x20 isent a 2:3 ratio - but 15x22,5 is!! Thats why im confused about in wich size i should deliver my pictures for printing. And further more if it is me who should make room for the white frame.

Batch Conversion Of All Photos To 8x6 Ratio
I have a folder full of images and I'd like them all to be in the 8x6 ratio, with white as the background if any canvas size needs to be changed. I can do a batch and make every picture a canvas size of 800x600, but if the original is 1100x240 that doesn't help me much, I'll loose alot of the image's width. Combining image like this will then have all detail in highlights, good exposure in mid tones, then all detail in shadow areas. CS4 Cropping
I just got Photoshop CS4 (Design Suite Standard) last week after having used Elements (2, then 3) for the last five years. In Elements, when you use the crop tool, you can move the entire frame around by clicking on the dot in the center and moving it. It seems that in CS4, when I attempt to move the frame, only the center dot moves without moving the frame lines. I looked through the PDF manual, but couldn't find any explanation how to change this. I'll likely be back with more questions as I try to learn how to use CS4.

CS4 Cropping
I select the area to be cropped on the image. Select "image>crop" and enter. The picture disappears. I had this happen with CS3 once; it was suggested to reinstall; This time I have reinstalled PS CS4 twice (uninstalled first) and it still does this. My PS CS3 was a separate PS package; the CS4 is part of the Adobe Creative Suite 4 (standard). The second reinstall, I reinstalled the whole Creative Suite. Still does the disappearing act.

I go to crop or use the marquee tool(such as to make a border, when I put the cursor where I want it and left click to start cropping(for example) very often the cropping lines just do not stay where I want them...they go all over the place. This happens with both tools...

Cropping In CS3
I am having problem to crop using ratio instead of values of inches or pixels. In cs2 if i enter any values eg. 6 in width and 4 in height w/out specifying the unit it will use that value as ration instead, in this case 6:4. No resolution as i dont want to resample. But when i tried this in cs3 it will use the value and i will get a 6 by 4 inches image instead of ratio.

Cropping And Straightening
i have photographed an old book of mine, and i am batch cropping and straightening the photos in photoshop, but the cropping fluctuates from, in some shots, editing out just the borders around the book, which is what i want, to editing out one whole page (of the two per photograph)- something i do not want. there does not seem to be any logic to what is edited out or not, it seems random. can anybody help with this inconsistency problem? i want to edit out just the border (background) around the book, but leave both pages in the photograph. why at times is the program editing out whole single pages leaving only one page per photograph? P.S. just to update, i have realised that perhaps the problem has to do with the fact that the two pages on the book have, like all books, a dark line vertically down the centre between both pages where the binding is. think of a photcopied page which has a dark line down the centre separating left from right page. i believe that photoshop reads that black centre-line as a border itself and so edits one page out; it assumes the black line is a border and edits out everything outside of it (which contains the other page). now i'm not sure how to overcome this. is there a way i can set it so that the cropping feature works on some rough template to do with size? the page sizes are relatively similar, so if it used a size-type template to crop, it would work well. this problem is random and not all photographs are problematic, but quite a few seem to cut out one whole page.
