How can I select a shape on a layer in PSD in the layers palette?
In my past version of PSD, I was able to simply click on the Layer and hold either select or control to have marching ants go around my image - but with CS2 I am not able to do that.

Drawing Outside The Layer Auto-Select Layer
I have an image with 8 layers and i want to draw lines. So I make a new layer. While this layer is selected, i select the line tool and draw a line. Then, as I want to move this line, I select the move tool and try to move it. But instead of moving the line I just drew, photoshop automatically switches to my background layer (although i'm not sure it's defined as "background layer") and moves the entire content of the layer. To see what actually happened, i hid each layer in the layer palette... And still... here was my line. (with all layers hidden, is it POSSIBLE to have anything?) I tried to select my line and then, using the move tool, move it, but the message "could not move the selection because the selected area is empty"...

Layer Thumbnails In Palette
I run two different PC's w/ PS 7. On one, in the Layers palette, next to the "eye" that turns layers on and off, a thumbnail image shows for each layer making it very easy to identify the layer you are working on. On my other PC, the thumbnail is not there. What setting must I change? How do I turn that thumbnail on?

Window / Palette Layer Priority
This morning I hit a button and my image window went in front of all my palletes. I could still work as usual, but they were all tucked behind my main image window. When I clicked off the application & back on it reverted to the usual palettes in front priority. Is this an option or was PS CS2 just being flaky? It was quite cool & I'd like to do it again. What was the buton(s) combo? I know about Tab & Shift/Tab to hide - show menus. This was different.

Select More Than One Layer
i think that adobe should make it able to take and select more than one layer and not only put a filter on all of them at once but also change the layer style to all of them at once. you can already scale and move all of the selected layers wich is good but it would be a nice feature to be able to do other stuff with the selected areas.

PS CS3: Cannot Select Object In Layer...
In past versions of PS I've been able to select the object in a layer by hitting control and clicking on the layer. I would get the marching ants and then could use that selection by creating a new layer for it and then manipulate it as I desire. Now it looks like the stroke causes linking to turn on and off. I very much liked being able to select the object in a layer and used it quite often in my designing. I still want to use it, but how? Does anyone know if this function has been preserved and how do I access it?

Can't Select Layer Mask, Also Some...
Photoshop 9.0.2 on WinXP Pro (3 GB RAM; Used space: 18.4GB; Free space: 214GB; Video card: 256MB ATI Radeon X1300PRO) Hi, I have a couple image layers (each created by merging several others) that each also have a mask attached. I cannot get the layer mask selected on either one. I have found that I can delete the layer mask, and start with a new one and make edits, but it is a one-time shot: once I de-select it I cannot get back to it to make any further changes. Code:

Right Click To Select Layer?
I use quite often the right click in the window to select a layer, which works great. But sometimes this feature stops working as the menu does not come up with the layers below the mouse. First I thought it was the mouse but rightclicking in any other part of the screen (such as the border around the document or the panels works fine. Is this a setting I need to make or is it a different problem such as lack of memory or what?

Ctrl + LClick Layer Select
I am using photoshop cs2 and have a question about the Ctrl + LClick Layer Select feature. In PS9, the function will highlight the layer within a folder. However, in cs2, it selects the folder that contains the layer. Is there a way to make it like the older version of Photoshop? -----edit Sorry, let me explain myself better. I mean, Ctrl + LClicking the actual layer on the canvas, not the layer palette/window. In PS9, When you perform the above function, in the layer-palette, it highlights that specific layer for you. In CS2, it highlights the folder that contains the layer. -----edit

How To Select A Layer Inside Of A Group, W/ Shortcut?
Question: How to select a specific layer inside of a Group, with a shortcut? Need a shortcut command... I can select an individual layer by holding CTRL and clicking on an area of the image (which is on a layer) in my document. This will direct me exactly to the layer by highlighting it (under layers). This makes it easy to find an area of the art/and the layer it's on. I am wondering if there is a similar way to select an image that is inside of a Group? (in CS3) When using the CTRL and click on image command, it goes directly to the Group folder the image is in (instead of the exact layer it's on). I would like to have a command that will go directly to the layer in a group. I do know about right clicking on an image area and getting a list of the layers. I do not want this.

Shape Layer Has Pixelated Edge When You Zoom In
I created a Photoshop document, and selected the Ellipse Shape Tool. On the Tool Options Bar I selected "Shape Layer" I drew an ellipse, and a new Shape Layer was created. I then used the Zoom tool to zoom in on the edge of the shape. The path that defines the edge was a thin, sharp line. But the color at the edge of the shape has a pixelated, chunky look. Why isn't the color at the edge just as sharp as the path? Since the shape's edge is defined by a vector, I would have thought the color's edge would be sharp, not pixelated.

Adding Layer Mask To Hue/Sat Layer Multiply Blending Mode
I adjusted the curves in the Hue/Saturation layer so just the illuminated slopes of the mountains (layer "DEM") are yellow. About the 3rd Layer: I think I would like to create a layer mask (out of the layer 3rd from top) to add to the top layer. My hope is that the black in the 3rd layer will not allow the yellow to be seen as much. On this layer the black represents lower elevation and the white represents higher elevation. My Goal If just the mountain slopes at higher elevations are illuminated with yellow tint, it gives the effect of alpenglow, or sun falling on high peaks before it sets completely. How would I go about doing this? A tutorial suggests Multiply Blending Mode, but I'm not sure if this is right because I haven't succeeded. Click the tutorial link and scroll down to "Additional Techniques" to see the example. Any help or walkthrough is greatly appreciated. I'm a geography student, and I haven't found a solution with my photoshop books. Thanks in advance! Click here and scroll to "additional techniques"

Base Layer Layer Style With Clipping Masks
I'm using a clipping mask on a layer. The base layer that the clipping mask is referencing has a layer effect applied (in this case an inner shadow). I want to make it so the layer effect is only applied to the base layer and NOT the clipped layers. Below is an example of what I'm talking about. as you can see, layer 1 has the base layer's inner shadow applied to it. I want the inner shadow to be hidden by Layer 1, but the clipping mask to still apply.

Move Layer Mask And Layer Pixels
I could have sworn that in previous versions of Photoshop, before version CS4, that if there was a link icon between the layer thumbnail and the layer mask on that same layer, if you move one or the other, they both move. In CS4, how do you move the layer pixels and the layer mask at the same time so that they stay lined up?

Duplicating A Layer/folder Adds The Layer
Every time you duplicate a folder or a layer, it adds the word "Copy" at the end. Is there a way to get rid of this? I've been looking for a solution to this for the past 2 years. I spend 8 hours a day in Photoshop creating Comps. I'm crazy about having my layers clean, therefore I use a lot of folders, etc. I probably waste an hour a day removing the $%)?#* Copy word at the end of layers/folders. This is driving me CRAZY while losing a lot of precious time.

How To Create A Hilightes Layer And A Shadow Layer For Same
I need an easy way to fix a high contrast image such as an interior home shot where the windows are blown out and you can't see outside detail, but the interior is either correctly exposed or is underexposed. Basically what i need to do is combine the correctly exposed interior with the correctly exposed windows, showing correct exposure for both interior and exterior detail. To get the correct exposure i have been taking a shot in which i meter the windows, and without moving the camera, take another shot in which i meter the interior. Here is where i get stuck. the way i've been doing it, which takes way too much time for my purposes, is to either use the magnetic lasso tool or the polygonal lasso tool to select the area of the properly exposed windows, and then cut and paste the selections to the other layer. The problem with this is, it takes quite a while and i usually have to go back and do some cloning around the edges to fill in the spots that got missed, which takes alot of time as well, because it usually takes me several tries to get it right. Is there an easier way?

Two Bevel Layer Styles On A Single Layer
does anyone know of a way to have two different bevel layer styles on the same layer or a way to get the same effect? I'm testing out some new ways to paint normal maps in PS and one way is to add a diagonal cyan - magenta bevel and then ideally to add a black - white bevel over the top of that in the opposite direction. I know you could just collapse the first style then add another one but I don't want to do that.

Rasterize A Layer With A Layer Style
I like the way a layer of mine looks with a layer style (color burn) applied to it. I want to rasterize or do something to the layer so that it looks that way when the layer style is normal, kinda of how when you have effects assigned to a layer and when you rasterize it the effects merge with the layer. Obviously just rasterizing the layer isn't how to do it but its the closest thing I could think of, does anyone know what I could do here?

3D Layer Merge - Layer Disappearing
I'm following instructions for creating a 3D Earth and Moon in CS4. Everything works until I Merge the two 3D Layers. No matter what the layer order, the smaller 3D object (moon) always disappears. Before merging layers, the moon is a few inches left of the earth on the top layer (also tried it with earth on the top layer).  What the heck am I doing wrong? On the merged layer texture, I can see both textures, but only the earth is visibile. I've even used the 3D tools to rotate the earth and see if the moon was placed behind the earth. It is not. Any suggestions?

Transfer Layer Mask From One Layer To Another In PS7.0.1
Is it possible to transfer a layer mask from one layer to another layer in PS7.0.1? I am following tutorials in Restoration & Retouching by Katrin Eismann. On p. 350 one reads: "To transfer the layer mask from the Selective Color adjustment layer to the Hue/Saturation layer, Option/Alt-drag the Selective Color adjustment layer mask into the slot of the Hue/Saturation adjustment layer." Is this something that can be done only in CS and CS2?
