Printing Metadata
1-Is there any way Metadata seen via PS-2/Adobe Bridge/Metadata tab can be addded to the system clipboard, or copy/paste for hardcopy printing or web report needs?
2- It seems that metadata can be entered only via the Adobe Bridge/Metadata/IPTC Core section, and for jpeg formats only. Is this correct?

Printing/Exporting Metadata
I want to print or export the metadata from Photoshop or Bridge for collections of photographs to create a hardcopy of the data to store with the printed images. This is for an archives where we print all digital images received, but do not currently have an easy way of transferring the metadata.

Metadata In Images
I'm wondering if there is a way to add metadata to an image (particularly JPEGs) without involving a re-save of the image itself. Obviously not a problem with TIFF but not great if every time you want to add more keywords your JPEG gets re-saved.

CS And CS2 Metadata Preferences Are Dropped
I work for a forensic laboratory and my section uses Photoshop CS and CS2 on WindowsXP. While working with images for comparative analysis any enhancements or changes to the image must be documented. We set the Preferences to record a "detailed" history log in the metadata for the image. We have found that sometimes these Preferences are dropped for some reason and the Metadata History Log is not set. Is this a common problem and is there a fix?

Global Metadata Settings
I just upgraded from CS2 to CS4 and of course, there will always be a few "improvements" that will take time to get used to. But one thing that is really bugging me is entering metadata in both Photoshop and Bridge. When I export or import a template I keep getting an extra dialog box with 3 choices about replacing or appending existing metadata. I am REALLY getting tired of clicking this away. Does anybody know of someplace that I can set a global preference for this?

Photoshop Won't Save Metadata From...
I have a somewhat strange workflow when it comes to using Lightroom so I'll try to explain it in order to make this as easy to understand. I use Image Ingester to import my images on to a computer and then I rate them and tag them in Bridge. I then use ACR to convert them to DNG files and place them in a new folder (buckets from the DAM book). After that they get imported in to the proper catalog in Lightroom. I then find the images that I want and export them as originals to a derivatives hard drive. I work on the images in Photoshop, save them as a PSD in a derivative 'bucket' and then re-import them to Lightroom so they can be exported in a batch. When I export them from Lightroom to the derivative hard drive as a DNG or Original (same thing in this case) it retains its metadata that has been added. But as soon as I save it in Photoshop as a PSD it loses its metadata. I don't understand why this is happening.

CS3 Bridge Metadata Camera ID

The CS3 only identifies it as a "digital camera". Is it possible to have the CS3 metadata identify the camera make and model? The OS on my computer is Vista Home Premium.

IPTC Metadata Truncated By
Using Adobe Bridge and Photoshop CS3 I have experienced problems with image metadata sometimes suspiciously being truncated. In my case this has happened in the IPTC Source field. There is no clear pattern when this occurs. Only that the truncation occurs after 32 characters. Metadata is added to the "IPTC Source"-field using Bridge, which allows longer strings than 32 characters. Most of the time, it works just fine. Bridge is shut down, then reopened and the image metadata is intact. Howevere, sometimes, the metadata has been truncated. I have tried to isolate when this occurs. We use Photoshop and Bridge side by side. So usually, metadata is applied using Bridge, then the image is opened in Photoshop, adjusted and then resaved. I have checked the metadata from Photoshop as well. And it seems consistent with the metadata information shown in Bridge. So once it gets truncated it is the same in both Bridge and Photoshop.

If you add or change metadata in a jpeg file, is the new/revised metadata alone saved, or is the (unmodified) image saved as well, with attendant loss of image quality due to jpeg compression? Adding Copyright Status To A Metadata...
I am using Photoshop CS3 for Windows. I have created a metadata template in Bridge with my contact information and my copyright information, etc. When I created the template the field called Copyright Status was not available but if I open an image and go into File Info by doing Shift-Ctrl-Alt-I the Copyright Status field is available and I can change it from Unknown to Copyrighted. I like this field because it shows the image is Copyrighted (Unknown looks bad and unprofessional) and also when you open the image in PS the © symbol shows at the top of the screen in front of the file name. Is there a way to create a metadata template where I can have Copyrighted in the Copyright Status field?

Adding Metadata To Targa Files
I'm trying to add custom data to a .tga file. This doesn't need to be standard EXIF information - this is custom data that I would read with a custom tool. Currently all I'm trying to add is a file path. Usually, I would just add this using File Info, but with Targa files, information I add using File Info is not saved to the file (which is a bug in my opinion - I'll go look for a place to report that after I post this). I haven't messed with the Advanced section of File Info much. The only thing I know how to do with that is to create .XMP sidecar files. Maybe I'm missing something there. As far as I can tell, the Targa file format supports a 256-byte "Image Identification Field" as well as unlimited user data at the end of the file, so it should be possible to add any data I want to a Targa with the right tool. plugin or technique that will allow me to add metadata to my targas? I'm using CS2, although we have several versions here at work so I'd be happy to learn of a way to do it in CS3 too.

Lost Metadata In File After Attempt To
I open RAW pictures from my Canon 5D (but same happens with pictures from Canon 10D) in PS and than try to save them as JPGs, I loose majority of my metadata from the files (after right click on filename in. I can still Windows Explorer and clicking Properties or simply adding additional columns in Win XP Windows Explorer detailed view.So same picture, without any editing at all, just opened as RAW file (which it is a CR2 or CRW file in Canons), and then saved as JPG, suddenly does not show the date of picture taken, focal length or exposure time are all gone. Does not matter if I try Properties in Win Explorer or say Properties in MS Office Picture Manager. Was trying to look for any setting in PS that would set the ability to save or abandon saving of this type of information in JPG file but could not find anything of this kind. What is interesting I went back to my pictures I have saved from RAW to JPG using same PS years ago, and I this was not a problem. Everything was saving OK.So in summary:1. This would not be a problem related to camera (it is unlikely that same problem would occur on two different models at the same time - even though both are Canons)2. It must be a way to force the Photoshop to do that, I f I was able to do it successfully, almost without knowing, before. Therefore, I would think that either:1. There is some set of defaults somewhere in PS that I have accidently turned off causing my PS not to save this metadata properly or in full, or2. That it came as some kind of bug with some of the updates to PS CS3 that I was getting over last year from Adobe.

Steps to reproduce bug: 1. Complete keywords data entry in metadata field. 2. Copy image file to new folder. 3. Open metadata in new folder image file. Keywords entries are incomplete, halting after 64 characters. Results: Incomplete data retention in Keywords field of metadata. Expected results: All keywords entries should be retained when the file is copied.

If I choose borderless it's even worse and if I print a larger picture on 8.5 x 11 and pick center, it's not even close, I'm talking inches off.

Printing In CS4
I have just started using CS4, having upgraded from CS2. When I go to print in the print dialog box and go to the Printer Profiles box I am unable to see or select my paper profiles for my Epson 2200 and R300 printers. There is a large number of profiles, primarily various color spaces, but only one paper profile for my Epson 2200. There also isn't any arrow or other way to scroll through the display to see the missing paper profiles. All of the missing profiles are the standard paper profiles provided by Epson either with the printers or from their website. Do I need to reinstall these profiles in some way in CS4 or is there something else I should be doing to be able to access these profiles?

CS3 Printing
Tried to print a 10ft panoramic landscape with CS3 on an Epson 1290 with disastrous results. Only prints about 4ft then aborts. Worse still what it did manage to print was 5ft of the the panorama compressed into that 4ft, the width had been compressed by my assessment as much as 15/20%. Previously had no problems with CS2 so I have had to reinstall CS2 to effectively do all my printing (especially long landscapes). Even gone to the extent of reformatting computer and reinstalling everything from new. So Adobe can you please tell me what good is it or the point in releasing a program that you cannot trust to print? I don't trust Photoshop CS3 to do any of my printing anymore, not even A4 or A3 sizes.

Printing
I use photo shop for everything on our company, from designing websites and multimedia screens to art that will get printed. The company uses a SAVIN C3535 for our printed material, and it used to get us really good print quality...until now. When I print stuff directly from Photo shop it creates a weird "cutout" effect on the pictures (people and logos mostly) and creates like a black "noise" surrounding any black text in my art. Color text and shapes print out fine. Anything with tones looks bad. If I send the same file to print to different printer, it looks awesome! Obviously it is the printer...Any suggestions on what I can do to fix this? i already contacted the printers' tech support, but they haven't been able to fix it (they keep blaming photo shop)

CS3 Printing @ 500% In...
This is with resample off, so the final product will be printed at 200ppi. As part of our (forensic) workflow, we print images at 500%. There are different ways of doing this, but some people in the office specify this in the Print Preview Pane, whereas I do it directly to the image in PS before going to print. After switching to CS3 from CS, it was noticed that 500% for a 1000ppi image (physically less than 36mm X 24mm at 1:1) was being limited to a bit less than 400%. An error box would pop up saying the value must be between 0.00% and XXX.XX%... and it would automatically select the maximum in the range. For a 1000ppi original image, the upper range would be around 370%. I tried it with a 2400 ppi image (5MB) and was limited to ~150%. Apparently this is not a specific number, but some sort of resolution-based maximum. The printer used for output doesn't appear to matter as we've tried a couple of different ones. Is there some sort of maximum percent of image size allowed for printing, based on resolution that can be selected in the Print Preview Pane?

Printing On OS X
I am transitioning from OS 9 to OS X and am running into some problems with printing. I am using a G4 mac DP, 1.25 Mhz. and an Epson Stylus Photo 820. and I'm running both systems on my G4. I had been using PS 7 with OS 9 and printing out pictures without any problems but I recently downloaded the Try out version of Adobe PS CS2 and decided to use it to print out some of the pictures on OS X. In the Print Preview the options were set to let the printer determine colours. When that was OK'd the next print page showed only the printer and the presets which said Standard. The problem I'm having is that the picture takes less than a minute to print and is of poor quaility compared to printing the same picture on OS 9 with PS 7 which takes maybe 2 or 3 minutes. The printer is printing at 300 dpi on OS 9 but i'm not sure what it is printing at on OS X. Not sure how to check that with OS X. Like I said earlier I'm not that familiar with OS X yet.

PPI Vs DPI And Printing
if I understand PPI and DPI correctly. PPI dtermines the actual reoslution of the picture and DPI really determines how much ink the printer will spray per inch as it prints out. So I guess I would like to know if anyone has suggestiosn to these three questions. 1. When scanning an image in, does DPI Actually refer to PPI? If so, what DPI/PPI shoudl I scan at. 2. In photoshop cs3 does the "Pixel Demenssions" section refer to PPI and the actual DPI section refer to the DPI setting for the printer? 3. What would be the best PPI and DPI settings for printing out the 3foot by 2foot poster?

Printing In Lab...
I have a document thats currently in CYMK color mode, and I'm having difficulty finding satisfactory colors. I was advised elsewhere to abandon CYMK. I therefore want to convert my image into to LAB color mode. I've read that converting from one color mode to another can cause layers to look funny, however I need to retain some of my layers... Do you guys typically have problems with this? In retrospect I should have STARTED in Lab... Seems that converting from CYMK to LAB wouldn't be as problematic as converting from LAB to CYMK... The key question is this: will my printer (Epson R800) even be able to print in LAB mode? I thought yes, or at least closely... because it has much more than CYMK to work with... it has these cartridges: #1 Blue UltraChrome Hi-Gloss Ink Cartridge T054920 #2 Cyan UltraChrome Hi-Gloss Ink Cartridge T054220 #3 Gloss Optimizer UltraChrome Hi-Gloss Cartridge T054020 #4 Magenta UltraChrome Hi-Gloss Ink Cartridge T054320 #5 Matte Black UltraChrome Hi-Gloss Ink Cartridge T054820 #6 Photo Black UltraChrome Hi-Gloss Ink Cartridge T054120 #7 Red UltraChrome Hi-Gloss Ink Cartridge T054720 #8 Yellow UltraChrome Hi-Gloss Ink Cartridge Finally, in the print screen menu should I be "letting photoshop manage colors" or letting "printer manage colors"? Do you guys have any other tips on how to tweak printer/photoshop settings/preferences to maximize the accuracy of my colors? Would I possibly be better off just using RGB?

Printing DPI & PPI
I'm making a billboard ad for a friend using CS2. The dimensions are around 14'x6'. The printing company hasn't been much help for me. They usually print basic vector graphics and they don't worry much about distortion. The most they could tell me was that they print at 150 DPI and that I can make my image at half size and they'll blow it up.. I'm very worried about distortion as it is an elaborate pixel based graphic. However, I'm having much trouble working at this huge resolution. Major disk errors and massive loading times between tasks (even with 200gb free disk space and 4gb ram). So, I'm wondering is there any lower resolution I can work at without losing quality here? The printing company hasn't been very helpful here, and I'm having trouble avoiding distortion even in photoshop alone at this rediculous resolution. Thanks if you can offer any advice here, I just feel as if I'm making it harder for myself than it should be. ps I know how to work around the disk scratch errors,
