Won't Cut Or Copy Making Selections
If I open a jpeg image in photoshop, I can't copy or cut it or anything from it. The "cut" and "copy" options under "Edit" are greyed out.
How can I cut and copy from an imported jpeg image?

CS4 Wont Let Me Copy
I have CS4 and everything has been working great! I love it! The only problem is that for some reason now I can't COPY images out of my layers. I can paste anything but now when I select images from my layers, there is no option like COPY available in the EDIT tab. Some others seem to be missing to, such as FADE. My PC is definetly capable of running the program as it was for already a week perfectly.

Way Of Making A Merged Copy Of A Number Of Layers?
way of making a merged copy of a number of layers? I know the Alt/Ctrl/Shft/E shortcut, but this requires turning evertything off except the layers to be merged. In a large doc with some layers already turned off, turning everything on and off quickly is not always straight forward. Is there a way of merging linked layers perhaps?

Filling Selections With Selections
I am trying to fill a selection in one picture with a selection from another picture. I am having problems scaling the selection to fit exactly. i still have an outline from the other (previous) selection. I opened both images up side by side, Adjusted the view on both to 33%, made my first selection, hit control + c, made my selection on the other picture (Exact same shape), hit control + v + shift, then edit>transform>scale, then shift+drag. Can't get it to line up. I also tried layering the two images then reducing the opacity of just the selection, but photoshop reduces the opacity of the entire layer instead of just the selection,

Selections
I am operating a Dell Windows system, 2 gig's of ram and using Photoshop CS3. While using the erasure tool to convert background to checkerboard transparency so that image can be selected for transfer to another background, after saving and reopening, the background lost the checkerboard and became totally white. In this state, the image cannot be transfered. Any suggestion on how I can convert the background back to the checkerboard status to allow transfer of just the image?

Contracting Selections
I take a 200px x 50px image and make a selection around the whole thing using Cntr-A. I then want to contract that selection by 20 pixels but when I go to Select menu, it won't let me contract. Why not? The only selection available is the Border one. But when I try to give it a 20 px border and fill in the outside, it creates a gradient from solid to transparent. How do I just make it so when I use the paint bucket, it fills it in with a solid color with no gradient towards transparency?

Loading Selections
I've been developing a script that uses 2 selections saved in a PSD file and have created various files with the selections saved while testing things. I would select an area in a tif, choose Save Selection from the Select menu and the dialog that displays allows me to name the selection into a new document. Select an area in a 2nd document, do the same thing and the dialog defaults to the same file into which the previous selection was saved. Worked great, many times. Earlier, however, I was all of sudden unable to save the two selections into the same document. When I created the two selections in separate documents and dragged a channel from one document to the other (to create the 1 doc with the 2 selections) Photoshop would then not allow me to load selections at ALL. Now, everything seems to be working as it should! I don't THINK I've changed anything and some of the files I used unsuccessfully earlier just worked!

Can't Save Any More Selections!
I have been working on a piece of work in photoshop which requires me to make numerous selections and save them. So far I have made 20, and it will not let me save any more unless I overwrite old ones. Is their a way of increasing the amount of selections that can be made, or a way of deleting the uneeded ones.

Selections And Pen Tool
I have been trying to figure out a way to add to a selection. What I mean is I draw a path with the pen and then save that and turn it into a selection and save that too. The problem is when I want to change the path of the selection using the pen tool it just gives me this funky path after the selection is made. When working on multible layers I need to use the same selection and due to the complexity of the object and impractibility of re-doing the whole selection again with the pen tool without the part of the layer that I don't want. Would it be better to bring up the saved path, delete or move a few anchor points and resave the path? The problem with this is I believe it will discard the old path that I made first and I can't have that.

My Selections Are Feathered?
I am using CS3. when I am in a document (new or opened) I will make a selection and fill it. Even though I have 0 px for the Selection tool and 0.2 under Select/Modify/Feather, when I fill it it is feathered, quite a bit I might add. However, if I select the brush tool, make a few strokes with a hard brush somewhere, then make another selection and fill it, it's no longer feathered.

Can Only Erase In Selections
I just installed CS2, and I can only use the eraser tool to erase if what I'm erasing is inside a selection. Otherwise I click and try to erase but nothing erases. Even when I drop selection (ctrl D) and there is NO selection, I still can not erase. I have to select all (ctrl a) in order to erase anything in the workspace.

Selections And Feathering
I have Photoshop CS3 and am having trouble with selections. Let's say I just created a new blank document at 1024x768 pixels. I create a new layer and make a new randomly sized selection with the Rectangular Marquee tool. I fill that selection with black and now have a simple black box on a simple white background. I press Ctrl-T for the Transform tool and in the Width box on the toolbar I type 800px and press enter. Now I expect my black box to be 800px wide. But when I select it and click the Info tool I see that my box is in fact 799px wide. Sometimes I try to change it to 800px again and when I look at the info tool the box is now 801px! Why is this? Second question.. when I fill a selection using alt-backspace I notice that the edges are feathered even though I have feathering set to 0. If I alt-backspace several more times I get a solid fill, but I'd like to only have to do it once. Where is this setting?

Border Shapes And Pen Like Selections
1. Is it possible to quickly create a shape that just uses the border (at a definable width/etc.). Ie, if I wanted to create a curved rectangle (but just a border of it, so that the inside is transparent), I usually select the shape tool, change to curved corner rectangle, draw the shape, ctrl+click the layer to load it's transparency as a selection, do a select > modify > contract and guesstimate how many pixels in I want to contract (It would be nice if PS auto updated the selection when you changed the CONTRACT value, so you could visualize it), and when that is done, press the DEL/BACKSPACE key to make the inside transparent, leaving just a "border" of the shape. Is there an easier way to this? 2. Secondly, I often thought it would be nice to have a lasso tool that drew selections in the same manner the pen tool makes shapes. But I tried to think outside the box and thought "If I just make a shape with the pen tool, I can then, again, load it as a selection, goto the layer I want to delete/fill and do so, and then remove the pen-created shape. Am I taking the long way around? Are there quicker methods? Also, is there a way to draw with the pen tool so that it uses the border and not a fill? Or is that just how Illustrator does it, and not PS?

Extra Selections Within The Marquee
I'm current working on some anime mangas (basically comic books for those who don't know) for cleaning as well as de-bubbling. I was able to create a action script to easily remove all the characters within the text bubbles but I'm trying to come by a more efficient way. My current method is nearly flawless when it comes to round or square text bubbles/boxes as well as some slightly complex ones. But when I come across extremely complex bubbles my method cuts corners and remove areas I'm not intending too...so my question is this.. Let's say I use the magic wand tool to select inside the a text bubble I'm trying to clear...So currently it has the white background of the inner bubble selected as it surrounds the text I'm trying to remove. Is there any quick command or shortcut that can select everything within that area?...Atm I have a action script set up to expand by 8 pixels and then contract by 11. This way it can expand to select the characters I'm trying to remove, and the contraction will bring it right back within the vicinity of the bubble. It's then followed by a paste pattern which I've set up to match the feel of the page. But yea...trying to figure out if theres a way to just select the insides in a different way...a method that doesn't expand and contract...yet has similar results. I was trying to look around for a function in photoshop to just select area's within the marquee's inner untouched areas.

Dancing Ants On Selections
I have an image that has three different subjects on it. (mountain scene) I would like to control levels, contrast, etc. separately on each subject. In channels I have been able to isolate the first subject from the others through levels, erasers, and paint brush. In a trail run I used this channel copy as a selection, switched back to layers, copied the image under that selection, (pasted into) a new layer, went back to channel, copied the channel layer that I just created, inversed the selection, went back to layers and copied image under selection, (pasted into) a new layer. When I turn off all layers except these two, I end up with a white line where the dancing ants inhabited. Therefore I assume the width of the dancing ants is not part of a selection or is centered on the selection.

Using Spherize Tool On Non Spherical Selections
Is there a way to use the spherize tool for non-spherical selections? For example, I have an outline of a human body and I want to give it some depth - make it bulge out so to speak. I tried to make a selection around it (made it tight around the edges so that the selection outline is exactly like the outline of the body) and then spherized it. But it seems like the effect comformed only to a regular sphere shape, but only on the selected region. It doesn't look good. I'm looking for a way to get the things inside the selection to "bulge out". Is there a way? Am I being unclear?

Soften Edges On Moved Selections
When moving a selected portion of an image from one canvas to another or even within the same canvas, I have a hard edge on the selection that I'm moving. How do I soften the edge of the selected area to make a smooth transition. When I move the selected area to where I want it, a hard edge gives the appearance that it has infact been moved, whereas if the edges were smooth or softer, it would have a more of a blend and not be as obvious that something has been moved.

Quick Mask Vs. Simple Selections
Ever since I learned how to us PS I have just made selections and edited from that. Everything is fine. What am I possibly missing by not using the Quick Mask option, however. To me, it seems like it's just the same thing as a simple selection but with a redish mask over the non selected areas. Am I missing something by not using that option.

Save Multiple Selections As Separate...
I've got a psd with two layers. The background layer is a photo, and the other one is transparent except for several rectangular areas. What I want is use that layer as a mask, and save each area from the photo in a single file. I have to do the same process with a lot of files, so an automatic or semiautomatic way would be perfect. I thought that the first pass was making a multiple selection of the areas. And then, save each one in a file.

Combining Selections Tools Pen + Mask
I am trying to make a difficult selections of this team. they are on a white background (with a few shadows). Please excuse the watermark, but I promised the photographer I would use it. I used the magnetic lasso for this selection. I tried to make a mask using Deke's example from lynda.com. Using levels and painting with white and black in overlay mode. That worked pretty good for the hair, but not so good for the rest. I would like to use the pen tool for the bodies and the other way (not sure of the name) to use the hair.

Cropping/copying An Pasting Multiple Selections From One Large Image
cropping or copying an pasting multiple selections.. i have multiple images that have multiple areas that need cropping to make seperate images, (i.e breaking up a large image into individual images) Normally i make each selection an copy an paste it to a new image/file one at a time (they all have to be the same size), so im wondering if there is a faster way to break up the large image. i tried creating an action but that only works if the base images are identical dimensions unfortunatly they vary.

PS7 Wont Load?
I have tried every way possible. The short cut, photos, and psd. files and nothing. So I thought, maybe I should uninstall it and reinstall it. Nope! And I even ran Ccleaner, disk clean up and a rgistry cleaner/fixer uper and restarted before reinstalling. It will start to load and then it just drops off with no error message. Not sure what else to try. I have 91% empty space on a 250MB hard drive and more than enough memory so I dont think this is an issue. I havnt made any changes or installed anything that may have caused an issue.

Photoshop Wont Install
Last night my portable hard drive, where I had Photoshop installed, died. So I tried to re-install it on my proper hard drive. It says it conflicts with Photoshop. I tried to uninstall it but the uninstaller couldn't find the files (because they're on the dead hard drive). So I got an uninstaller program and used that. Now Photoshop doesn't register as being installed by Windows, but somehow the Photoshop installer still finds it. I just went through the registry editor and deleted every photoshop thing I could by hand, but it still thinks it's installed. I just got my Tablet back from being fixed and so having my pc break on me feels very frustrating.

Some Filters Wont Work
I create new file, add 1st layer, pick colors on color pallette, and try to do difference clouds or halftone pattern and i get an error message saying that nothing is selected. I click on the layer in the layers pallette to be sure that the layer is selected, and it still won't work. CS3 Wont Open Any Files?
I'm running photoshop cs3 and recently every time I try and open a file nothing happens, well what happens is I see the open file box pop up and disappear and then I can not do anything in PS, every time I click something I hear a noise and thats it, I have to restart Photoshop. The only way to open a file is if I drag and drop a file in PS. I'm running windows XP service pack 2 if that helps at all, and yes I have reinstalled and the problem still persists.

Adobe Wont Work!
Whenever i open up photoshop or illustrator itll work fine sometimes and sometimes it wont work at all. Illustrator sometimes gives me the msg "Could not request ..." and when I click on New image it doesnt display all the options. Itll leave out the OK and CANCEL buttons and several other options sometimes. And sometimes Ill be able to create a file but i cant save... And sometimes when all this is happening I cant open any new windows on my computer and cant do any tasks at all on my pc.. other times when i think it works perfectly some of the options for different tools wont work at all...
