Printing High Quality
I'm trying to prepare an advertising piece and I'm trying to print out a mockup from my HP color laser jet. My question is, how can I get the printout to appear as it does on the computer screen, whenever I print it out now the resolution is really low and fuzzy. I want it (it least the text and other computer generated material like boxes, e.g. anything but pictures) to appear very sharp.

Printing Resolution
I'm getting used to PS6, playing around with effects etc, but the one thing I struggle with is resolution. Every image I open is in 72dpi and although I know how to resize the image and change the resolution, it just doesn't seem to be right.

What I want to do is 1) get the image into 300dpi print resolution and then 2) resize it for printing.

Also, I know I'm restricted to the maximum size of print, depending on the megapixels of my camera, but are there any guidelines for this. I tend to take photos using a 3MP camera set to the finest setting.

Resolution - Printing
someone sent me a file with a resolution of 72. it is striclty graphic (not sure if that matters) but very colorful (kind of psychedelic looking). I have altered it and now want to make a poster that is in the range of 22x30 inches. when i printed it 6x8 it was incredibly vivid. when i am in photoshop and i change the image size and view actual pixels, it is also incredibly vivid. at 200 percent zoom it is still incredible vivid. **will it print to poster size of 22x30 and still be vivid at this low resolution?** **can resolution be lower for graphic files vs a picture from a camera?

What Resolution For Printing?
resolution (pixels/inch) of images in photoshop intended for print with an inkjet printer. Obviously, the higher the resolution the better, but there has to be a cut-off at some point (since infinity is not an option). So, what do you think the cut-off is to where there isn't a noticeable difference?

Canvas, Resolution And Printing
If I make the resolution of a photoshop document canvas 300 PPI (pixels per inch), will it still print out at the original dimensions I set the canvas to? I am asking because I tried a target canvas size of 594mm width by 841mm height on two separate photoshop documents, one at 300 PPI and the other at 72 PPI and it resulted in a huge size difference between the two documents targeted at the same image size. I want to know if they will print at 594mm x 841mm regardless of resolution.

Printing At Higher Resolution?
Im printing this on an Epson Stylus CX4600. It supports 1440DPI Printing. Ive tried setting the resolution in photoshop to 1440 on the printer section (edit/preferences/units & rulers). Ive tried printing on photopaper, glossy photopaper, matte paper, and regular paper. Ive set the printer for best quality, normal quality and everything in between. But still everytime I print, it does not look as it does on the screen. It prints out fairly blurry, you cant read any text thats on it, except the top part, and thats even blurry.

Resolution And Printing With Out Interpolation
If I want to to print an image at a certain size in photoshop but do not want to have the image resampled up or down I can basically do this

1. go to image, resize and uncheck the resample image box and type in the resolution at which I want to print = lets use 300ppi just for kicks.

2. Now that will depending on the resolution of the image this will resize the photo the the max size that can be printed at that print resoultion- period. Then is the image is say 5x8 and I want to crop to 4x6 I can set the crop tool to 4x6 and leave the resolution fields blank, to crop with no resampling. Is this correct so far?

Now want I need to know is how do you do the math to figure out max print size from a given resolution- if I have an image that is 800x640 say- how do I convert that to inches to see the max size that can be printed without resampling- am I just dividing both fields by ppi?

Changing Resolution Of Images For Printing
I have just started producing photo books, and I am very pleased with the results. I have just sent another book with all the images changed to 300dpi which should be good. But ..... I didn't do anything with the "resampling" tick box - I just left it ticked (mainly cos I didn't understand it). Should I have unchecked the "resampling" tick box?

Printing / Resolution / Document Size
I was designing a membership card for a company and set a resolution of 300 and I can't remember what document size I set originally.

Anyway, my sizes now are as follows:

Pixel Dimensions: W 700, H 410
Document Size: 5.93cm X 3.47cm
Resolution: 300 pixels/inch

When I save my psd as any image type, my image is MUCH bigger than 5.93 x 3.47. How can I save it so that it is the size I want, but still the good image quality (resolution) and so I get the same size when I print it.

Printing Resolution And Preparing Files For Print
i'm designing a DVD cover for an independant film. the only problem is the images i've been given are 72 not 300. the main picutre is huge however, how will this look when printed?

then i've combined it with another image that is at 72 but much smaller , so i've had to enlarge it, plus i distorted the image. how will that print?

of course my photoshop document is 300

also one my image is complete, do i leave all the layer as they are for do i flatten the image for print?

isn't it best to combine the logo and text and image in a layout program, rather than do them in photo shop?

Photo Printing - Not Printing To Border
i've tried both borderless and non, I've also realigned by cartridges and updated drivers and program.

When I'm printing with Photoshop CS, didn't do it on 6.0, it's not printing properly at all. It's not printing to the edges of the paper (4x6) and the space it's leaving on all sides isn't even. If I choose borderless it's even worse and if I print a larger picture on 8.5 x 11 and pick center, it's not even close, I'm talking inches off.

From Low To High Resolution

Most of it is just text and a few rectangle marquee boxes to give color. There are three pictures used. What's the quickest way to replicate this? can I just create a new document at 300dpi and drag all my layers(except the pictures) into it from the low res one or do I have to recreate everything?

High Dynamic Resolution (HDR)
First off, Im a bit new to photoshop and to HDR's. I use an iMac and I have photoshop CS4. I have completed a few HDR's with only one or two looking decent. However, the "successful" attempts were made with 3-9 different images at different exposures. Im desperately trying to figure out how to create an HDR based of ONE image. I know it can be done, I just don't know how. Ive tried brightness and contrast, Ive tried levels ... and Ive even tried exposure settings ... the only thing with the exposure settings is that I HAVE NO IDEA how to work them.

Can someone point me in the right direction? How to manipulate the exposure so that I can create 3-5 "differently" exposed images based on that 1 image.

CS4 With A High Resolution Screen
I am running CS4 on an 8 processor, 3 GHz machine with an nvidia fx3700 and a screen that offers 2600 x 1900 resolution. With all this power, the package is much slower than CS3 on a lap top. One can actually see the action of one's paintbrush trailing centimetres behind the cursor.

Well, we can perhaps live with this, with the leaping menu bar and the many other oddities until Adobe fix the thing. However, what isa truly hard to accept is that it is impossible to resize the tool icons, symbols on the tool bars, silly menu stud-type things of floating menu items so as to allow work at high resolution. Drop down menus follow what we have told Windows to apply, and are thus legible. Anything in the application GUI is, however, invisibly small at 2600 x 1900, Even MS Office 2000 - ten years old - allows you to resize the icons and tools, for heavens sake, but it appears that a modern package that is aimed explicitly at people who work with images cannot do so. It all seems deeply retrograde, an instance where 'new' equals 'worse'.

Perhaps I have missed something: so does anyone know how to resize the various menus and tools so that they can be read without a magnifying glass?

Forum Oddity, W.r.t High Resolution...
I started a thread on Windows/ Photoshop entitled "CS4 with a high resolution screen". People have replied to this, according to e-mail direct response. However, it is not on the list of forums, and neither does it appear on 'search'.

To repeat: we have a high resolution HP LP 3065 screen, which supports up to 2560 x 1600 pixels. At this resolution, images are still less than print size, but CS4 is essentially unusable because the menu text and other icons do not scale. Does anyone know if it is possible to manage this silly interface to allow the user to see what they are doing? Is there even a visual disability option? Even MS Office 2000 - ten years old - allows "large icons".

Printing In CS4
I have just started using CS4, having upgraded from CS2. When I go to print in the print dialog box and go to the Printer Profiles box I am unable to see or select my paper profiles for my Epson 2200 and R300 printers.

There is a large number of profiles, primarily various color spaces, but only one paper profile for my Epson 2200.  There also isn't any arrow or other way to scroll through the display to see the missing paper profiles.

All of the missing profiles are the standard paper profiles provided by Epson either with the printers or from their website.  Do I need to reinstall these profiles in some way in CS4 or is there something else I should be doing to be able to access these profiles?

CS3 Printing
Tried to print a 10ft panoramic landscape with CS3 on an Epson 1290 with disastrous results. Only prints about 4ft then aborts. Worse still what it did manage to print was 5ft of the the panorama compressed into that 4ft, the width had been compressed by my assessment as much as 15/20%.

Previously had no problems with CS2 so I have had to reinstall CS2 to effectively do all my printing (especially long landscapes).

Even gone to the extent of reformatting computer and reinstalling everything from new.

So Adobe can you please tell me what good is it or the point in releasing a program that you cannot trust to print?

I don't trust Photoshop CS3 to do any of my printing anymore, not even A4 or A3 sizes.

Printing
I use photo shop for everything on our company, from designing websites and multimedia screens to art that will get printed.

The company uses a SAVIN C3535 for our printed material, and it used to get us really good print quality...until now. When I print stuff directly from Photo shop it creates a weird "cutout" effect on the pictures (people and logos mostly) and creates like a black "noise" surrounding any black text in my art. Color text and shapes print out fine. Anything with tones looks bad. If I send the same file to print to different printer, it looks awesome! Obviously it is the printer...Any suggestions on what I can do to fix this? i already contacted the printers' tech support, but they haven't been able to fix it (they keep blaming photo shop)

CS3 Printing @ 500% In...
This is with resample off, so the final product will be printed at 200ppi. As part of our (forensic) workflow, we print images at 500%. There are different ways of doing this, but some people in the office specify this in the Print Preview Pane, whereas I do it directly to the image in PS before going to print.

After switching to CS3 from CS, it was noticed that 500% for a 1000ppi image (physically less than 36mm X 24mm at 1:1) was being limited to a bit less than 400%. An error box would pop up saying the value must be between 0.00% and XXX.XX%... and it would automatically select the maximum in the range.

For a 1000ppi original image, the upper range would be around 370%. I tried it with a 2400 ppi image (5MB) and was limited to ~150%. Apparently this is not a specific number, but some sort of resolution-based maximum.

The printer used for output doesn't appear to matter as we've tried a couple of different ones.

Is there some sort of maximum percent of image size allowed for printing, based on resolution that can be selected in the Print Preview Pane?

Printing On OS X
I am transitioning from OS 9 to OS X and am running into some problems with printing.

I am using a G4 mac DP, 1.25 Mhz. and an Epson Stylus Photo 820. and I'm running both systems on my G4.

I had been using PS 7 with OS 9 and printing out pictures without any problems but I recently downloaded the Try out version of Adobe PS CS2 and decided to use it to print out some of the pictures on OS X.

In the Print Preview the options were set to let the printer determine colours. When that was OK'd the next print page showed only the printer and the presets which said Standard.

The problem I'm having is that the picture takes less than a minute to print and is of poor quaility compared to printing the same picture on OS 9 with PS 7 which takes maybe 2 or 3 minutes. The printer is printing at 300 dpi on OS 9 but i'm not sure what it is printing at on OS X. Not sure how to check that with OS X. Like I said earlier I'm not that familiar with OS X yet.

PPI Vs DPI And Printing
if I understand PPI and DPI correctly. PPI dtermines the actual reoslution of the picture and DPI really determines how much ink the printer will spray per inch as it prints out.

So I guess I would like to know if anyone has suggestiosn to these three questions.

1. When scanning an image in, does DPI Actually refer to PPI? If so, what DPI/PPI shoudl I scan at.

2. In photoshop cs3 does the "Pixel Demenssions" section refer to PPI and the actual DPI section refer to the DPI setting for the printer?

3. What would be the best PPI and DPI settings for printing out the 3foot by 2foot poster?

Printing In Lab...
I have a document thats currently in CYMK color mode, and I'm having difficulty finding satisfactory colors. I was advised elsewhere to abandon CYMK. I therefore want to convert my image into to LAB color mode. I've read that converting from one color mode to another can cause layers to look funny, however I need to retain some of my layers... Do you guys typically have problems with this? In retrospect I should have STARTED in Lab... Seems that converting from CYMK to LAB wouldn't be as problematic as converting from LAB to CYMK...

The key question is this: will my printer (Epson R800) even be able to print in LAB mode? I thought yes, or at least closely... because it has much more than CYMK to work with... it has these cartridges:

#1 Blue UltraChrome Hi-Gloss Ink Cartridge T054920

#2 Cyan UltraChrome Hi-Gloss Ink Cartridge T054220

#3 Gloss Optimizer UltraChrome Hi-Gloss Cartridge T054020

#4 Magenta UltraChrome Hi-Gloss Ink Cartridge T054320

#5 Matte Black UltraChrome Hi-Gloss Ink Cartridge T054820

#6 Photo Black UltraChrome Hi-Gloss Ink Cartridge T054120

#7 Red UltraChrome Hi-Gloss Ink Cartridge T054720

#8 Yellow UltraChrome Hi-Gloss Ink Cartridge

Finally, in the print screen menu should I be
"letting photoshop manage colors" or letting "printer manage colors"? Do you guys have any other tips on how to tweak printer/photoshop settings/preferences to maximize the accuracy of my colors? Would I possibly be better off just using RGB?

Printing DPI & PPI
I'm making a billboard ad for a friend using CS2. The dimensions are around 14'x6'. The printing company hasn't been much help for me. They usually print basic vector graphics and they don't worry much about distortion. The most they could tell me was that they print at 150 DPI and that I can make my image at half size and they'll blow it up.. I'm very worried about distortion as it is an elaborate pixel based graphic.

However, I'm having much trouble working at this huge resolution. Major disk errors and massive loading times between tasks (even with 200gb free disk space and 4gb ram). So, I'm wondering is there any lower resolution I can work at without losing quality here? The printing company hasn't been very helpful here, and I'm having trouble avoiding distortion even in photoshop alone at this rediculous resolution. Thanks if you can offer any advice here, I just feel as if I'm making it harder for myself than it should be.

ps I know how to work around the disk scratch errors,
