Popup Menu Not Poping Up
Hi

Not sure if I can give enough info. I think I have done all I need to do to get a popup menu to work, but it doesn't popup. In MenuEditor, I have created the top level as not-visible. All the sub items are indented by one, and are set visible. When the user clicks the appropriate button, I say 'PopupMenu mnuChangeDates' but it does nothing.

Why ?

Thanks

Why Is My Old Form Poping Back Up?
I'm trying to get from the main form to the final form of my program which gives the user results from their quiz. The problem I'm having is that it loads the Summary but then it goes back to the code from the Quiz. Here's my code to get me from the Quiz form to the Summary form:

frmSummary.Show
frmSummary.Top = frmQuiz.Top
frmSummary.Left = frmQuiz.Left
Unload frmQuiz

The Summary code is very simple:

Private Sub Form_Load()
lblTally.Caption = " " & Correct & " out of " & (QAsked + 1) & Chr$(13) & " Your Score:" & Int((Correct / (QAsked + 1)) * 100) & "%"
End Sub

Private Sub cmdSubmit_Click()
End
End Sub

But instead of waiting for the Submit Click (which has been titled "Exit Program", it goes right back into the Quiz form code. Can anyone tell me what the heck is going on?

*** Does This Error Mean? (FIXED)
New to the forum guys and gals. I am in technical school, not studying programming but we have to take a beginners course. I am in the networking program but I find program interesting and fun when you make it work.

In my project i have 1 class that will connect to an Access Db for the word i input and come pack with its meaning (next column). When I debug it stops when it is trying to connect. I looked up ISAM on google, and it has something to do with indexing or accessing Dbs. However my professor who codes for major companies was clueless to this and told me "i will look into it". However I want my program to work now.

I thought this was just my computer, so I ran the program on a different one, and got the same error. Now Im thinking its something in my project... What would cause this?

Runtime Error 424. How Can It Be Fixed?
I have written some visual basic code in a module (coded as a public function) and I need to access this code from a command button and from a menu item. When I execute the program I keep getting "runtime error 424 - object required". I think it has something to do with the variable declarations needing to be used in different parts of the program? Does anyone know if there is a piece of code or a solution that can help me?

Thanks.

Poping A Form On Top Of All Open Programs (SetFocus?)
I'm creating a time alerting program and I have it play an MP3 when the time desired is reached. I want to simply be able to press the space bar to stop the song playing (I'm using the Windows Media Player component), I have it so you can press a button and everything is, but I need the form to go on top of everything and have focus so I can press the space bar on the highlighted button (the monitor will be turned off).

What would be the best way to do this, and if and source code is needed, I'll be glad to share. Thanks!

EDIT: I've tried both using a Form and a message box, but I can't get it on top of everything. Maybe something to have it always on top, and then set focus? I don't know? I can't really think of anything other than that?

Help!!!!!! Data Link Properties Box For Crystal Report Using VB 6 Keeps Poping Up
I have a VB program with multiple Crystal reports that I have created. With these reports, I connected to my SQL database using the tools. I used the OLE DB connection properties.

The data is there, the report works great. My problem is, every time I open this report in code, I get a Data Link Properties box that requires me to enter the password for the server. Even though I click the check box for 'allow saving password'.

What's worse is, every time I re-compile the program, I have to enter the password for EVERY report in the program!

Needless to say, this is very frustrating.

I cannot use the NT integrated security option because this program must be used by people who are not logged into our network.

Does anyone know how I can get it where this password box won't keep popping up for the server password?

Attached is the box that keeps popping up for the server password.

Can anyone help?

Thanks

Stop Error? Or I Will Stop You!
Oh the title i just wanted to get your attention. it looks like it worked though.

So now to the real problem, How do you make an easy error handler for a for next loop that sets or reads the properties of controls. and it tries to read a "timer.width".

I don't want ot know a way to avoid the error just a way to handle it.

Error 10, Array Is Fixed Or Temporarily Locked
I am gettin error #10, This Array is fixed or temporarily Locked when i am redim'ing my array.

This only occurs when I compile my app.

I am using the code in the same format in other places, yet it only raises on error on 1.

Code:
i = 1
175 With MRSMONSTER
176 .MoveFirst
177 Do
178 ReDim Preserve dbMonsters(1 To i) As UDTMonsters
179 dbMonsters(i).dEXP = !EXP
180 dbMonsters(i).dHP = !HP
181 dbMonsters(i).dMoney = !Money
182 dbMonsters(i).iAC = !AC
183 dbMonsters(i).iAttackable = !Attackable
184 dbMonsters(i).iDropPercent = !DropPercent
185 dbMonsters(i).iHostile = !Hostile
186 dbMonsters(i).iSwings = !Swings
187 dbMonsters(i).iType = !Type
188 dbMonsters(i).lDropItem = !DropItem
189 dbMonsters(i).lGiveItem = !GiveItem
190 dbMonsters(i).lID = !ID
191 dbMonsters(i).lMobGroup = !MobGroup
192 dbMonsters(i).lRegenTime = !RegenTime
193 dbMonsters(i).lRegenTimeLeft = !RegenTimeLeft
194 dbMonsters(i).sAddQuest = !AddQuest
195 dbMonsters(i).sAttack = !Attack
196 dbMonsters(i).sDeathText = !DeathText
197 dbMonsters(i).sDesc = !Desc
198 dbMonsters(i).sMessage = !Message
199 dbMonsters(i).sMonsterName = !MonsterName
200 dbMonsters(i).sQuest1 = !QUEST1
201 dbMonsters(i).sQuest2 = !QUEST2
202 dbMonsters(i).sQuest3 = !QUEST3
203 dbMonsters(i).sQuest4 = !QUEST4
204 i = i + 1
205 .MoveNext
206 Loop Until .EOF
207 End With
I used the #'s to find out where my error was.

The error occurs on: ReDim Preserve dbMonsters(1 To i) As UDTMonsters

This works in the IDE, but doesn't when it is compiled.

This sub is quite large, mainly just looping through all my tables in a Access database.
All my loops have the ReDim in them, yet this is the one giving me probelms.

This is one of the loops that is before it:

Code:
44 i = 1
45 With MRSFAMILIARS
46 .MoveFirst
47 Do
48 ReDim Preserve dbFamiliars(1 To i) As UDTFamiliars
49 dbFamiliars(i).iID = !ID
50 dbFamiliars(i).sDescription = !Description
51 dbFamiliars(i).sFamAbility1 = !FamAbility1
52 dbFamiliars(i).sFamAbility2 = !FamAbility2
53 dbFamiliars(i).sFamAbility3 = !FamAbility3
54 dbFamiliars(i).sFamName = !FamName
55 i = i + 1
56 .MoveNext
57 Loop Until .EOF
58 End With
And this one works just fine.

My arrays are Dimed like Dim MyArr() as UDTwhatever

Any ideas?

My Calculator Cant Seem To Do Some Math Right(fixed). Overflow Error How To Fix It.
my calculator in VB will not do the addition right if you add the same number like 9+9 its fine but if you add 5+6 it will give you 12. i only have the equal sign coded for addition right now i want to fix this before i add more stuff.

VB Code:
Private Sub CMDadd_Click()  operand1 = Val(LBLans.Caption)  LBLans.Caption = ""  'Clear for next number  LBLsign.Caption = "+"End Sub Private Sub CMDans_Click()If LBLans.Caption = "" Then    MsgBox "please enter a number"ElseIf LBLsign.Caption = "+" Then    operand1 = Val(LBLans.Caption)    operand2 = LBLans.Caption    ans = operand1 + operand2    LBLans.Caption = ansEnd IfEnd Sub

Error On Binary File Read? FIXED
I have a very simple program:

VB Code:
Private Sub Command1_Click() Open "c: empmy.txt" For Binary Access Read As #1 sDATA = Space$(LOF(1)) Get #1, , sDATA MsgBox sDATAEnd Sub

The file exists OK.
LOF(1) shows a length of 50.
But on the GET line, I receive an error of:
" Run time error 458
Variable uses an automation type not supported in Visual Basic "

Any ideas why?

Error 10: This Array Is Fixed Or Temporarily Locked
I am looping in a recordset and at each record, I am also calling the function recursively. Each time the function is recursed, it adds another dimension to the array that I am using to hold all of my Recordsets. This is so that I am still at the same record when this iteration goes out of scope.

After processing some records, approximately twenty, when I attempt to upsize my array, I receive:

Error 10: This array is fixed or temporarily locked

What causes this? How do I fix it?

Here is some samples of my code that deal with this array:

VB Code:
Redim objRSBranch(1)Redim objConnBranch(1) Call DoBranch(1, 1, "") Public Function DoBranch(TableID, QuestLevel, BranchID)'''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''Iterates through all of the branches' within a selected area, and' recursively calls itself for all sub' branches and so on.'''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''     if questlevel > (NumOut + FormBranchCount) then exit function    Set objConnBranch(QuestLevel) = server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")    objConnBranch(QuestLevel).Open "Driver={SQL Server}; Server=Myserver; UID=User; PWD=Password"     Set objRSBranch(QuestLevel) = objConnBranch(QuestLevel).Execute("Use Decision SELECT COUNT(*) FROM [" & TableID & "] WHERE QuestionLevel=" & QuestLevel & " AND ID1 LIKE '" & BranchID & ".%'" )  '.... Do some evalutation, logic etc redim preserve objRSBranch(UBound(objRSBranch) + 1)redim preserve objConnBranch(UBound(objConnBranch) + 1)Call DoBranch(TableID, QuestLevel + 1, cstr(objRSBranch(QuestLevel).fields(1)))redim preserve objRSBranch(UBound(objRSBranch) - 1)redim preserve objConnBranch(UBound(objConnBranch) - 1) 'Clean up my objects, setting them to nothing etc. End Function

This Array Is Fixed Or Temporarily Locked (Error 10)
I am getting this error with the following code; MSDN suggests that the cause is I am passing a module level array. I only pass indices to/from functions.

module level
CODEPrivate udtLink() As LinkedListHolder

Array Fixed Error In EXE Not In Code (RESOLVED!)
I use arrays in classes. When I call my UPDATE function from VB code (Which scrolls trough the array and updates the database), I don't get any error ... It updates the database and everything works fine.
But when I compile the code to an EXE, it gives me a "Runtime Error 10. This array is fixed or temporarily locked."

Code:Private Type TGLD
     ...
End Type
Private c_Item() As TGLD

My question is: Why did I not get the error in code view?

I will try to modify the code a bit, but I would really like know what happened !!!
Any suggestions ?

Client Side RDS Error 8447 (Internet Server Error)
I have an windows application communicating with MTS business objects via RDS. The application has been in use since 1999 and working successfully with a variety of remote clients. I have one new client that keeps getting an 8447 Internet Server Error. They are the only ones, so it does not appear to be an ADCLaunch security type of error. The business objects were created using MDAC 2.6 and the client is running Windows 2000, IE 5 SP1, MDAC 2.7 and is behind a Cisco Pix firewall. Any ideas? Much appreciated!

But i got the following error code:
Object variable or with block variable not set, on the first line (call runner.stop)

I got the same error problem on more samples, but in the help there is nothing about this.
Should i activate something?

A3 PageSetup – Unwanted Stop On Error !!!
Can anyone help a VB novice?
I have an Excel file that uses a command button to create new individual files for each worksheet contained within the original workbook along with a copy & paste routine to insert objects. The original workbook is setup in A3 landscape, just as the output file needs to be. The error that appears at present is: "Run time Error '1004' - Unable to set the PaperSize Property of the PageSetup class" & then highlights the “.PaperSize = xlPaperA3” line.

It's strange because it only happens when I'm at work using an A4 HP Laserjet 6P printer that sits on my desk. If I change my Windows default printer to an A3 printer in another room then everything works fine. At home I’m using my A4 Brother Laserjet & there’s no problem at all.
I don't need to print out the sheets, just be able to create the files in A3 without it falling over.
I'm not that good with VB so I’m hoping someone out there can add/insert any additional code lines needed that will either ignores the error completely and completes the task, or failing that, a warning box to advise user to change their default printer!!!

My present code reads:
Code:
Sub SetPrint()

Range("C2:AH76").Select
With ActiveSheet.PageSetup
.PrintTitleRows = ""
.PrintTitleColumns = ""
Columns("C:AH").Select
Selection.ColumnWidth = 8.29
Rows("2:76").Select
Selection.RowHeight = 15
End With
ActiveSheet.PageSetup.PrintArea = "$C$2:$AH$76"
With ActiveSheet.PageSetup
.LeftHeader = ""
.CenterHeader = ""
.RightHeader = ""
.LeftFooter = ""
.CenterFooter = ""
.RightFooter = ""
.LeftMargin = Application.InchesToPoints(0.354330708661417)
.RightMargin = Application.InchesToPoints(0.196850393700787)
.TopMargin = Application.InchesToPoints(0.196850393700787)
.BottomMargin = Application.InchesToPoints(0.15748031496063)

Stop VB From Complaining With A Error Box When I Don't Finish A Line?
I like to copy and paste a lot(helps prevent typos) but say I am in the middle of an if statement and I need to copy something from above I click off the statement and VB6 gives me that error
is there an option I can turn off to make it so those blasted boxes don't pop-up?

Error Trapped Now Stop Doing The Procedure!! Dammit
Ok my question is i've trapped an error in one of my subs and it now displays a message box with the error in it.

How can i get it to stop doing that sub and move onto something else?

End Sub

Stop Calling Sub From Function If An Error Occurs.
Hi,

I have a sub procedure which is a click event that calls a function elsewhere in my code.

If an error occurs in the function, and it terminates, is it possible to prevent the subsequent code in the calling procedure from running?

What Will I Do With My 3billion And Above Values To Stop From Making Overflow Error
i have a program that will reverse the order of the digits in a number(maximum 10 digits). NOTE: no string variables, string functions and concatenation operator allowed so i had to do mathematical operations. but the problem is: when the result reaches 3billion and above, it makes an overflow error.
what will i do?

dim number as long
number=9
number*1000000000 //ERROR: overflow

Raising Errors In VB6 - How To Stop The Default VB Error Handling
Hi all,
I'm writing an application to get to grips with databases. I've worked in programming for a number of years, and have somehow never had to do anything in databases before! But anyway, I'm getting caught out on something that has caused me problems before. I'm trying to create a class to create a "State Machine", that handles navigation buttons' Enabled properties and various other bits and pieces. The code that's causing problems is in this class:

Public Sub SetCommandButtons(cmdButtons As Object)
Dim i&
Dim obj As Object

On Error Resume Next

'See if the object passed supports the count property.
i& = cmdButtons.count
If Err.Number = 438 Then
'Object doesn't support this method.
On Error GoTo 0 'let the calling routine handle it.
Err.Raise vbObjectError + 438
End If

On Error GoTo errHandler....

The line above that's supposed to return to the calling routine's error handler is causing the default VB "Continue End Debug Help" window to come up. I thought the "On error goto 0" line should only remove any error-handling from the current procedure. The calling routine has an error handler around the call to this routine. So why isn't it going back up the calling stack to look for this error handler - it's as if I haven't got any error-handling at all!

It's a standard executable - with all the code in the one project.

I've tried using err.raise with or without the vbObjectError constant, with no difference.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. I'm sure it's something really stupid, but knowing that doesn't seem to have helped me at all!

Ronan.

Error Message "This Array Is Fixed Or Temporarily Locked"
Hi

I get this error message "This array is fixed or temporarily locked" when I try to use the function of a COM object.

I am executing the code with Excel and the strange thing is that, if I reference the dll of the object and declare my object like 'dim obj as New MyObject', then it works perfectly, but if I try to use it this way: 'set obj = createobject("MyObject")' then I get the error I mentionned.

What is the difference between the 2 methods I used ?

Thanx

Error 8447 Internet Server Error When Trying To Connect To Access DSN On My Server
I'm trying to connect my vb6 application to a Access database located on my server...

I created a system DSN on my server for my Access db

I used the following code and it gives me an error ( '8447' Internet Server Error ), it is also the same error it gave me when I tried to use the code at the following post... http://www.vbcity.com/forums/topic.asp?tid=12903&highlight=access%7Cweb%7Cvb

code :

Private Sub Command1_Click()
Dim rsGeneric As ADODB.Recordset
Dim cnnGeneric As ADODB.Connection
'
Set cnnGeneric = New ADODB.Connection
'
cnnGeneric.Open "Provider=MS Remote;" _
    & "Remote Provider=MSDataShape;" _
    & "Remote Server=http://199.199.199.99;" _
    & "Data Source=Alert;" _
    & "User Id=test;Password=test;"
'
Set rsGeneric = New ADODB.Recordset

I think it's because I don't have my RDS set up...
Well, I don't know what is RDS...
Can somebody tell me what I have to do to activate RDS and get this code working...
Thanks a lot!!

Internet Transfer Control(Error While D/l)
Hi all,

I m using MS INET Control to download the files from web server. I am using this logic to save data on the local machine:

VB Code:
Dim myData() As ByteDim myFile As StringDim X As IntegerDim myURL As String                            myURL = "http://" & txtSvr.Text & "/Update/" & currUpd & "/" & DirName & "/" & RemoteFileName myData() = ITC.OpenURL(myURL, icByteArray) For X = Len(myURL) To 1 Step -1     If Left$(Right$(myURL, X), 1) = "/" Then RemoteFileName = Right$(myURL, X - 1)Next X                            myFile = App.path + "images" + DirName + "" +RemoteFileName Open myFile For Binary Access Write As #1Put #1, , myDataClose #1RemoteFileName = ""End If

This code is working abs. fine but it only downloads information in text format even if Opening file for Binary access. Eg: if i try to download any image file it never opens opens up and give me "unsupported file format" error.

Any ideas....

Microsoft Internet Transfer Protocol Error
Hi!

When I try to add a Microsoft Internet Transfer Protocol VB tells me that I do not have appropriate license to use this functionality. Why does this error message keep coming up? This also happens when I try to add a Winsock Control.
I have Visual Basic 6.0 Enterprise Edition. Does that have anything to do with it?

I really need help...so please answer.
