Visual Basic :: Drivers???

Copiling A Drivers CD...
I've recently reformatted a pc for a friend and had to download some drivers from Dell. These are two setup.exe's - one for her graphics card and one for the sound card. As she's not exactly computer savvy, i want to compile the two driver setups onto a single autorun CD.

Now i understand the basics of an autorun.inf file, but i've never created one for multiple exes. What i need is to launch the first setup.exe and when complete, run the second one. Will i need to compile these 2 files with INNO and then run a single setup.exe? I'm not sure how to do that either, because my INNO scripts are normally installing the actual files, and not running another setup.exe.

I imagine it's simple when you know how...anyone care to tell me how?

Webcam Drivers

I'm trying to implement a webcam in my application, but i got some problems with the drivers. Ive got 3 things installed on my pc:
-Haupage wintv card
-Logitech webcam
-softcam (softwarecam)

I found some source to obtain the drivers and then i get this list:

but when i choose the win32 driver and then i get no view so i think that will be the wintv card or something, and the logitechcam isnt even on the list and thats the one i want. But when go to the "select cam" menu in msn it shows everything nice.

How to produce such a menu as msn does or fix the driverlist i have and whats the reason for showing only 2?

Browse For Drivers
I'm hoping this can be done...

I need to have a Browse For Folder dialog box that only lets the user select a folder that contains drivers, just like the dialog in device manager (see attached picture).

Basically it is just a Browse for Folder dialog box that keeps the OK button greyed out until a folder is selected that contains the driver files (INF, CAT, SYS, etc).

And if possible a way to check if this folder actually contains the required .sys or other required files that the INF references.

Are There Is A Way To Control Drivers From Vb?

Hi, i wrote a program at home that access a mysql database on my server, but when i brought it into college to use it i am getting a error that says
[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data Source name not found and no defualt driver specefied, any help would be great, and i cannot install the odbc drivers on this computer, is ther anyway i can but the dll's in the program folder with the run time files, if so do you know where i can get them

I have written an app in VB6 using an access2000 database. I have installed this on a machine that does not have access already installed. The app uses the native data provider for access and works vine for reading from the database. However I receive errors when trying to insert (only on the user machine). Can sombody please tell me which access drivers I should also be installing (I assume they are ODBC drivers of some sort).

USB Device Drivers

I've been trying to figure how to write a driver for a USB device and I just can't figure out how to do it. I dont mean a standard USB device that I could prob find premade drivers on the internet for.

Take this for example. If I built a simple circuit with say four different paths for power, and ran those paths to a USB cable. Is there a way to write a driver so that I could control wich path is on or off, or all off.

What I plan to have, havn't built it yet but planning everything out first, is a small 9 or 12v dc motor. I need to be able to run this motor at varying speeds including reverse. Right now I was planning on something really simple like just 4 paths one of really high resistance the other one of lower, that way it varies the speed on the motor.

I may later put in some varying resistor switch or something and then want some way to control it from the computer too .. so that I could control the speed of the motor.

So is this even possible? And if so does anyone have a link to some info on how it is done, or at least how USB communications work. I've never even seen a driver written for something so I'm at a loss on exactly how they work. But I'm sure if I can get that part done writing a DLL or making a OCX to control it using the driver shouldn't be a problem

Redistributing Jet Drivers
First, can anyone tell me if MS allows redistributing the Jet Drivers with a VB6 application? I know that techinically speaking you need MDAC installed first, but I need a legal answer.

Second, can you point me to up-to-date information on MS.com? The only info I can find when searching their site is for Access 95.

Finally, one of our other programmers seems to think that redistributing MDBs is a no-no (without the end user having Access licensed and installed). This seems rediculous to me. MDBs are simply data files.

i am making a CD-ROM that will contain all the programs and drivers i install after each new installation of windows. so i thought: "why don't you make an app in vb that will automate this proccess a little bit????". my big problem is how to make
windows start the process of installing the drivers for a certain device(modem, audio card,etc.)

Oracle SQL In VBA. Using Different Drivers.

This might come out as not much of VBA, but more of general database connectivity question.
I'm developing a variety of tools in Access 2002.
The database server is Oracle and, in recent, I'm extracting database data using ADODB Connection and RecordSet objects (giving up the using of linked tables and queries), designing the target SQL command in Oracle syntax.

One point, which is bugging me all the time, is the data source drivers compatibility.
We have two drivers for connecting to the Oracle here, Microsoft ODBC for Oracle and Oracle ODBC Driver.

Could anyone, please, advise, if it's there any significant difference between them?

Printer Drivers
Hi, here is the situation :
I want to create a file printer in VB kind of like a PDF printer. The printer
must act like a real printer. I.E. be visible in the printers special folder of
windows and be sharable over the network.

What I need is doc, links or samples about printers drivers, where and what
to put in the registry, how to create a .drv with VB5 (if that can be done
at all) and what 'Exports' to add to my project.

i installed odbc drivers in windows 98 and is working the connection but at windows 2000 in mysql it sais "Not Found" well i installed them but the box in mysql still sais not found! what is going on anyone? help please...

Crystal Database Drivers
Can anyone help,

I have created 5 crystal reports and they use the odbc ado database driver.
they all run fine and they are fine in my vb program which also uses ado connections.
However when i come to run the crystal reports on another laptop, the
reports always ask to "Select Data Source".
And it always defaults to ado and ole db option.
When i run the vb program on the laptop and try and open the report i get a runtime error
"Cant open SQL Server"

Obviously something is wrong with the drivers, but is there any way i can force the laptop to always use odbc ado as default.

I'm connecting Vb with mysql database. I'm using odbc 3.51.12 driver. While executing stored procedures with output parameters, it fetches large number.

you have error in your sql syntax;check manual .........near'{call spallocate(4334343434,",",1.00000000000000e+000,") at line 1

I want to know whether odbc 3.51.12 has capability to support stored procedures with output parameters else name any other mysql connector for VB

Missing OLEDB Drivers In CR

Ok this is a bit strange so please bear with me.

CR version: 8.5
VB version: 6.0 wSP5

I've created a report inside my vb app by using the RDC.

The data is coming from a stored procedure in SQL Server (8.0) so I initially created the report by specifying 'Microsoft SQL Server' as my database driver.

The report worked fine on my development machines, both of which have SQL Server running on them. When I go to run the report on the actual user machines I get the 'physical database not found' that indicates that the required database dll is not present. This I have confirmed by installing the CR client on the user's machine and opening the report (.rpt file exported from the original RDC report). When I try to open it I get the message that it can't find the DLL and it says it's missing pdssql.dll.

Fine. So I search my development machines and even they don't have the pdssql.dll so that's driving me crazy but I figure I can just change my database driver to something else.

On the client I open up the report, change the database driver to OLEDB for SQL and the report works great. This seems like the best solution so I go back to my development machine and try to change the database driver to OLEDB and it's not an option.

So my questions are as follows:

1. If you know where I can find pdssql.dll please let me know since this is the easiest solution.

2. How to I get OLEDB to show up as one of my database driver choices in CR on my development machine? If I create the report using ADO I can't get to my stored procedure for some reason.

3. Anything else I can try? This is driving me nuts!

i'm working on test project whose objective is to find out which drivers/ocx/dll are registered
on a particular system. accordingly i've to generate a log file. what i'm doing is i'm opening access connection, fox connection and oracle connection. its fine enough. now for ocx i'm placing them on form. i've also written on error resume next. but on running the exe it simply gives the msg that so and so ocx is not registerd.

I was wondering if they all basically did the same thing? I wrote some code to talk to win85io.dll, or whatever it was to talk with my LCD, but I have switched over to NT. Since nt is gay, it dosen't work anymore.. So I am using another driver.. I took me forever to write the first code, and I was wondering if it should be hard to just port it over?

Dell Display Drivers

anybody used virtual cd, cd space, or fake cd. can anyone tell me how to load a certain file or dir as if its being loaded from a "fake cdrom drive", like the above mentioned programs.
