I opened up a form in Notepad and I got the following first 2 lines:

VERSION 5.00
Object = "{648A5603-2C6E-101B-82B6-000000000014}#1.1#0"; "MSCOMM32.OCX"

I know what the first set of numbers are (classid), what is the "#1.1#0"?

Please, Help! How To Explain This?
Excel & VBA.

This is jut the command to add button to selected cell.

ActiveSheet.Buttons.Add(Range("K40").Left, Range("K40").Top, Range("K40").Width, Range("K40").Height).Select

I am doing this command in several cases:in the first case I have view size (zoom) of worksheet = 100%, in the second = 200%, in the third case < 100% (75%, 50%).

In the first two cases everything is fine and button is located exactly in the cell K40. But when zoom is less than 100% my button becomes shifted and located not far from the cell but not exactly in this cell. How to explain this?

Wat can I do to make this work correct?

Could someone please explain the following code to me in great detail, i am a noob.

Dim intXcenter As Integer
Dim intYcenter As Integer

intRadius = 2100
intXcenter = 2200
intYcenter = 2200

Me.DrawWidth = 4
x = (Cos(intCount * pi / 180) * intRadius) + intXcenter
y = (Sin(intCount * pi / 180) * intRadius) + intYcenter

Me.Line (x, y)-(x + 180, y + 180), vbRed, BF

intCount = intCount + 1
If intCount = 361 Then intCount = 0
End Sub

Can Anyone Explain?
I set up a form with a label (named label1... go figure )
I put this code into form_load

Quote:

Private Sub Form_Load()
Static nLoop As Long

Form1.Show

For nLoop = 0 To 100000
Label1.Caption = nLoop
DoEvents
Next nLoop

End Sub

What is odd is anytime I hit the Close Window button (on form1, not the VB6 program) the counter resets its self.

Anyone know why?

I'll Do My Best To Explain...
Hey guys... I've made this GUI and I'm pretty proud of it so far. But I've got a problem... This is my code so the button changes when it is pressed, kind of like windows...

Code:
Private Sub imgClose_MouseDown(Button As Integer, Shift As Integer, X As Single, Y As Single)
imgClose.Visible = False
imgCloseDown.Visible = True
End Sub

Private Sub imgClose_MouseUp(Button As Integer, Shift As Integer, X As Single, Y As Single)
imgClose.Visible = True
imgCloseDown.Visible = False
End Sub

Now, this works fine... But then I added 'End' in the code so it unloads the program, like below...

Code:
Private Sub imgClose_MouseDown(Button As Integer, Shift As Integer, X As Single, Y As Single)
imgClose.Visible = False
imgCloseDown.Visible = True
End Sub

Private Sub imgClose_MouseUp(Button As Integer, Shift As Integer, X As Single, Y As Single)
imgClose.Visible = True
imgCloseDown.Visible = False
End
End Sub

Now, this works fine. But my problem is if I want to not close the program I can just drag the mouse off the button and it will not end. Again like Windows...

Please, help me...

Could Someone Explain...
hiya's, i'm pretty new to VB and am in my program, need to database.

i've been advised to use an sql database because my data will be dynamic and will be continuously changing.

and this is where i get stuck. could someone please explain all this ADO, DAO, ADODC, ADODB, ODBC, JET stuff to me? I would like the quickest solution available because i'm writing an online game.

i've done research everywhere but have troubles understanding cause it seems everyone says something different. some say JET and DAO is only for Access databases, some make me think otherwise. could someone clear this up a bit?

and could you also explain how to actually get a simple database opened in my program? i've got both sql2000 and mysql but am unsure what to do. am i supposed to create the database with mysql or whatever and then just use the file with VB? or does VB actually communicate with mysql to modify the database? i don't quite understand all this, i would appreciate some insight.

your help is very muchly appreciated.

Can Anyone Explain This To Me?
I'm a newbee to SQL. What I wanna do is to retrieve information from 3 different tables in my DB (like:tblNames, tblJobs, tblCities). I know how to do this:
strSQL="SELECT * FROM tblNames WHERE name = '" & strName & "'"
but... this gives me only values from table tblNames (not from other two!). I saw somewhere in this section something about linking tables but I just can't figure it out! ( I don't know, I just might be dumb?). And yes, it should work with .AddNew and .Delete too.

Please help!
Thanks! Ales

Can Someone Please Explain This To Me?
Hi all,

I have come across some SQL Server 2K strangeness and I was wondering if anyone knew * * * is going on.....

If I type the following in QA:

Code:
DECLARE @Value FLOAT
SET @Value = 73/12
PRINT @Value
SET @Value = ceiling(@Value)
PRINT @Value
SET @Value = @Value/1.175
PRINT @Value
The results are :
6
6
5.10638

This is obviously wrong.

However if I change to:

Code:
DECLARE @Value FLOAT
SET @Value = 73.0/12 <------Notice the .0
PRINT @Value
SET @Value = ceiling(@Value)
PRINT @Value
SET @Value = @Value/1.175
PRINT @Value
I get:
6.08333
7
5.95745

Which is correct

So...why the hell is it treating my initial sum as Integers and giving me back an Integer??? I declared my Var as a FLOAT (and as a DECIMAL while experimenting).

This is highly annoying!

Thx in advance

Maybe someone could tell me what I'm missing here. I wanted to add a horizontal scrollbar to a combo box. It's a simple trick with list box and I figure since the list part of a combo is basically a list box it shouldn't be to difficult. The example below almost works. It scrolls back and forth just fine with the arrow buttons, or when you click between the 'thumb' and arrow buttons. The problem is the thumb doesn't work. I can drag it to scroll, but when I let go it stays scrolled but the thumb goes back to the left side. If I have already scrolled to the right then click on the thumb it causes the list to scroll back to the beginning.
I'd appreciate some ideas on this, it's got me pulling out my hair and frankly I just don't have enough left that I can afford to lose any more. I'm using a combo with the style set to '1-Simple Combo' if that matters.

Please Explain To Me...
What's the difference between sequential, binary, and random-access files? Are these files created or are they just names of methods on how you use files? How do I create a file that is sequential, binary, or random-access? If I'm going to develop a simple accounts receivable / payable program, what kind of file should I use or create (sequential, binary, or random access?) Also, what extension would suit that kind of program? .dbf? .dat? etc...... Also, does the following code have anything to do with random-access files?

Open "c:friends.dbf" For Random as #1

Not sure if the syntax is correct, but you get what i mean. Also, do I always have to use the function that returns an available number for a file? ...forgot what that function is....anyway, please explain these in simple layman's terms because I'm very very stoopid. try to be as clear as possible. thanks guys!!!

Can anyone explain this to me,

I am making a very simple darts scorer so the score is tallied downwards from 501. I knew what i had to do but it wasn't quite working out and then by fluke i got it to work but i don't understand the logic to it. I might just be having a mental block but i can't see how it could possibly work this way. Can anyone explain it to me?

cheers

VB Code:

Hi there,
I got a label control which is populated with the name of the client firm.

Now some of the names in the database contain an amphersand. So I wrote the following function to display the amphersand.

VB Code:
If InStr(1, Label1.Caption, "&") <> 0 Then        Label1.Caption = Replace(Label1.Caption, "&", " && ")    End If

This unfortunately doesn't work. I figured out the solution.

VB Code:
Dim xstr As String    If InStr(1, Label1.Caption, "&") <> 0 Then        xstr = Replace(Label1.Caption, "&", " && ")        Label1.Caption = xstr    End If

Why is the extra variable required? Some one please explain.

Could Somebody Explain This
Why would you write,

VB Code:
Private Sub Picture1_MouseUp(Button As Integer, Shift As Integer, X As Single, Y As Single) Winsock1.Resquest_Accept End Sub

This is using the winsock API, and is obvioulsy the equivalent to the winsock controls (example below),
VB Code:
Private Sub sckMain_ConnectionRequest(ByVal requestID As Long)sckMain.ClosesckMain.Accept requestIDEnd Sub
sub for validating an incoming connection request .

I just dont see the relevance in the data acceptance sub being set to the Picture1_MouseUp event

Hi Guys,

I need to write a VB program which takes names from a distribution list (usually consisting of about 4000 names). Make a link from this list to a relay server and then, using a mail merge type idea, send a PERSONALISED mail out to each person in this list!!

I have NO idea where to start. There was mention of something call BLATT, but I can't seem to find any info about this on the net.

Please help!!!

Sorry to be dimensionally challenged, but I need some help.
I've got a code snippet here that uses the GetRows method of a recordset object.

It works fine, but I can't get it through my head HOW IT WORKS.

Can anyone please add comments to this code, explaining how it works. I need to figure this out so I can load it into a Listbox. Thank You!!!

Code:
Dim values As Variant, fldIndex As Integer, recIndex As Integer
values = Nrs.GetRows(3, , Array("ProductID", "ProductName", "UnitPrice", "Discontinued"))
For recIndex = 0 To UBound(values, 2)
For fldIndex = 0 To UBound(values)
Print values(fldIndex, recIndex)
Next
Print
Next

VB .net Please Explain...
Ok I've used vb for many years now, and have been away from it for a little while, what is up with this VB.net what is the benefit besides it compiles down to a byte code. Is it so it can run on any OS such as java?? If so can unix run it?? These questions may sound stupid but I need hard facts to substantiate the use of VB.net over Java at my workplace and any help and understanding will be greatly appreciated!! Thanx everyone!

What i observed is when user clicks on lose button, buttons on the messegebox do not display a rectangle when they get focus

I am using XP. is this specific to XP? Has somebody experienced same thing?

I wrote this program that tests the status of a proxy on a network and depending on the results of that either sets internet explorer to use the proxy or not to use it. What I used on my computer to write the program was dwHKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionInternet SettingsProxyEnable. After bringing it to the network it was designed for I discovered that this doesn't work because there is no access to the registry. If you go to tools>internet options>connections>LAN settings you can make the change for as long as the computer is logged on. I'm just wondering how internet explorer can make this change and how I can emulate it. Thanks.

Could You Explain This To Me?
I am rather new to VB, so for me it's a bit hard to understand it sometimes. I have a code to check if Word is running:
Function IsWordApp() As Boolean
On Error GoTo PROC_WordCOPY
Set mvarWordApp = GetObject(, "Word.Application")
PROC_EXIT:
mvarWordApp.Visible = True
IsWordApp = True
Exit Function
PROC_WordCOPY:
MsgBox "Word is running!"
On Error GoTo PROC_NOWord
Set mvarWordApp = New Word.Application 'here smth.'s wrong
Resume PROC_EXIT
PROC_NOWord:
MsgBox "Word is not installed on this computer"
IsWordApp = False
End Function

I don't understand how it checks if Word is running. As I see it, it will always be false. Could you explain, please? And what's the difference if I check different application?

Could anyone explain to me how to compile some assembly routines into a DLL file that can be called in VB?

I ask because there is this pci card I must control that only has QBX and assembly routines that interface with it. The task has already been done, but I don't understand how it was done.

Could anyone explain how to reproduce such a thing?

I'm using VB 5.0 on windows 95 systems.

Thanks.

the format i'm familiar with is this: txtEnding.text = Format(curInitInv * sngInterest, "$###,##0.00")

but i read this in a book:
Some formats get lengthy, so programmers often declare a string variable and assign the format to the variable. They then use the variable inside the Format() function instead of using the string literal for the format. If you use the same format in several locations within the code, the variable means less typing on your part, and if you ever change the format, you only have to change the format in one place.

Can somebody pls explain this to me and maybe give me an example? Thanks a bunch!!!
