How To Post And Retrieve Data To Browser With VB6

Post Data To Website Without Loading Browser?
How do i post data that is say stored in some variables in VB, to a remote website using a method similar to Method=Post to post the details. Or is there a simpler way? Also the program needs to be hidden, preferably running as an NT4 Service (if anyone knows how to do that be my guest) so i dont want it to load any browsers, or it can load them but make them invisble to the user.

The reason i want it to be a service is so that it works when Nobdy is logged on.

Open A Web Page In Default Browser With POST Data
Hope someone can help here.

There are 2 parts to our application.  A piece of desktop software, and a web-portal.

Both need logins.

When the desktop software is run, the user logs in, the username and password are sent to a set webpage using XMLHTTP and form url encoding to return whether or not they have portal access (which defines if they can use the desktop app).

Once the process on the desktop is finished (its a wizard) the  user is given an option to save and close or to enter the portal.

When the portal opens in the default browser the user has to login again.

What I'd like to do is pass the username and password up with the last call to the portal (like the original XML call) but this time so that the user is automatically logged in when the browser opens, obviously this has to be via POST and not on the URL.

Does anyone know how I might be able to achieve this.

Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?

POST Data && Web Control
Can anybody point me to an example of using the MS ActiveX web control with POST data?

Basically, I need to open a particular website which requires POST data to be sent with it & I am unsure exactly how to do this.

-Using INET Control To Post Data
I have a contact form on a webpage and want to post to it from vb6
The contact php form sends me an email with data. I know it works, because i can enter data manually and it sends fine. I'm tying to use the INET control - here is the code:

Private Sub Command1_Click()
Dim url As String
Dim data As String
Dim header As String

url =
data = ?txtName=1234&
header = Content-Type: application/x-www-form-urlencoded

Inet1.Execute url, "POST", data, header

End Sub

However, nothing goes through. I've tried changing the data to:

The HTML for the form is as follows:

    <p>Send Us a Message:</p>
<form method="post" action="/contactus.php">
<fieldset style="width: 434; height: 220">
<legend>Please complete the form in FULL</legend>
    <p><label for="txtName">Name:</label><br />
    <input type="text" title="Enter your name" name="txtName"
    value="" size="20" /></p>

    <p><label for="txtEmail">Email Address:</label><br />
    <input type="text" title="Enter your email address" name="txtEmail"
    value="" size="20" /></p>

    <p><label for="txtMessage">Enter your message/info:</label><br />
    <textarea rows="3" cols="50" title="Enter your message" name="txtMessage"

How To Post Data Use Inet Control

Inet1.Excute "", "GET"
in my VB6.0 application , it's OK, I can get information from Inet_StateChange events.

Now I want to use "post"

in my VB6.0 application, I can't get right information.

Could you help me to solve this "POST" problem?

Than you!!

Post Data From WebBrowser Control To Application? Possible?

If a add a WebBrowser control into my form and then create a HTML-form that the control will show. Is it possible to post that HTML-form to my application?

The question is, can I post a form to my application and not to a webserver?

Hmm... do you understand my problem?

Need Help In ITC Control -Retrieving Computed Data By Using The Execute(POST) Method
ok i have a problem here. i have tried using the above method to post the data in this website. But i got this response - (unknown content type). I'm not too sure where does the fault lies..when i use OpenURL method and put the data in work..(e.g below)

'Using Query String
BTdata() = Inet1.OpenURL(URL, icByteArray)

Using the above method..I can retrieved my computed data from the response immediately..but internet address has it's limit for it's i have to do it in the "Post Method" way. But i'm having trouble retrieving the website above. My code is below.

'Using Post Method

strURL = ""
strFormData = "protein=" & str1
Inet1.Execute strURL, "POST", strFormData

can anyone explain my mistake? or kindly tell me how to go about using the Post Method & GetChunk Method. can also send me a response to

Loading POST Data With The Internet Transfer Control Via HTTP
just sharing the knowledge, and getting rid of the frustration of my last 4 days of work...

i use an inet control in an application, set for http protocol, to upload binary data to an asp page. the data is retrieved by the asp page with Request.BinaryRead() and immediately passed to an activex dll for processing. the inet control uses the .Execute method with a POST instruction for this:

VB Code:
inetctl.Execute someurl, "POST", mydata

the microsoft documentation goes quite silent about the type of the data that can be POSTed, but after a few experiments i figured that only strings are accepted. no big deal, binary data can be stored in a string quite safely. but here's the big catch - if the first character in the POSTed string is null (ASCII character 0), iis discards the whole POST data received.

this seems to be a very annoying bug in the iis server, or at least in the asp pages processing engine. i think the root of the problem is the same old microsoft indecision about how to handle strings - should they consider them as zero-terminated or as structures prefixed with the string length...

Another Post To Do With The Web Browser
Hi guys,

I'm not 100% sure this is in the right board as it is based on both VB6 and web programming.

Basically the problem is I am accessing a web page that has onClick events that run Javascript, however there is no id for the said object with the onClick event, so I am unable to make the web browser select the object and submit the event. I have put the web page code below,

<TR id=658439_2459617_runner isPokerWinner="false" isVacant="false">
<TD class=runnerInformationContainer style="DISPLAY: none" vAlign=top width=20>
<DIV class=runnerInformationIcon style="DISPLAY: none">i</DIV>&nbsp;</TD>
<TD class=predictionNameContainer align=left>
<DIV class=predictionName title="View history for this prediction."><A href="javascript:interface_displayMoreInfo(2459617, 'O', null, 658439, 'Poker', null)">Hand 1</A></DIV>
<DIV class=profitAndLoss style="VISIBILITY: visible"><SPAN></SPAN><SPAN>&nbsp;</SPAN></DIV></TD>
<TD class=backOddsBox3 style="HEIGHT: 35px" vAlign=center align=middle width="11%" height=34>
<DIV class=OddsBackOdds3>2.7</DIV>
<DIV class=OddsBackMoneyAvailable3>9966</DIV></TD>
<TD class=backOddsBox2 vAlign=center align=middle width="11%">
<DIV class=OddsBackOdds2>2.71</DIV>
<DIV class=OddsBackMoneyAvailable2>4802</DIV></TD>
<TD class=backOddsBox1 vAlign=center align=middle width="12%" height=34>
<TABLE class=backOddsBoxContainer height="100%" cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=1 width="100%" align=center border=0>
<TD class=backOddsButton onclick="interface_placeBet(null, 5546420, 2, 'B', this)" align=middle>
<DIV class=OddsBackOdds1>2.72</DIV>
<DIV class=OddsBackMoneyAvailable1>19</DIV></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE></TD>
<TD width=6>&nbsp;</TD>

Basically the bit I need to run is the onclick="interface_placeBet(null, 5546420, 2, 'B', this)", however even using the execScript method of the web browser with this it simply does nothing. Anyone who can help me with this then, I would be more than greatful.

Send Post Request To Default Browser

I was wondering if it is possible to send a 'POST Request' To a users default browser?
If i would do something like

ShellExecute Me.hwnd, "open", "", "", "", SW_SHOWNORMAL
Then it would just open the browser, and send a GET request...
But then the website wont work, because it grabs the POST requests...

I know it is possible with a winsock control, but i need it to get posted in the users brower...

how should i do this?

Getting Posted Data From A Local Html Form In The Browser Control
Hi All!

I'm planning on using HTML FORM's and the browsercontrol as a simple
front end for data input to my program. The plan is to load the web
control from a string, and then to intercept and parse the string
returned when the forms 'SUBMIT' button is clicked. The question is
how do I detect the submit event and catch the string?
I'm a newbie using VB6/SP3. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

How Can Use Xmlhttp To Send A Post Request, And Have A Browser Opened With The Url De
I want to send a POST http request from VB to an HTTPServer. When the request is sent, I want a new browser to be opened with the url set to the same url as in the http request. How can I do that? the reason is that the url I want to send to need the user to authenticate first before processing the content in the request.

I'm using xmlhttp. the code I have below does get received by the http server. but I don't know how i can have the browser opened as a result of xmlhttp.

thanks in advance.

Private Sub posthttp_Click()
Dim xmlhttp As Variant
Set xmlhttp = CreateObject("MSXML2.XMLHTTP.3.0")
strUrl = <some url>
MsgBox strUrl
xmlhttp.Open "POST", strUrl, False

Dim xmldoc As Variant
Set xmldoc = CreateObject("MSXML2.DOMDocument")
xmldoc.loadXML ("<?xml version=""1.0""?><root/>")
xmlhttp.send xmldoc.XML
Set xmlhttp = Nothing
End Sub

Post Data Through VB
i need an example on how can i post a large a string containing all sort of characters through HTTP POST method

Sending POST Data
As of now I have your basic everyday html page, with a login form

HTML Code:
<form action="login.php" method="post">
Name:<input name="login" value="anonymous">
PW:<input type="password" name="password" value="">
<input type="submit" name="submit" value="Login">
I would like to send data to both of those textboxes (Name textbox's name is 'login' password textbox's name is 'password'), in VB using textboxes.

I am using the INet control, because as of now it is the only way I can think of to do it. Currently I have..

Private Sub cmdLogin_Click()
conURL = "login.html"
User = txtUser
PW = txtPW
inetCont.Execute conURL, "POST", User & PW
End Sub
That as of now, does nothing (to my knowledge). But of course after I sign in, I would like to STAY signed in. So I'd have to send a cookie as well. Suggestions?

Post Data Using Shdocvw

I am using the shdocvw to post data to forms in This has worked really well to send one or two word fields.

Now I have a textarea in the form. On the website you have to fill in this form and tick whether its html or text. The result is then emailed to you.

If I send this via code and this is text, the linefeeds and control linefeeds have been cut out - ie all squashed together.

If I send this in html it does actually sometimes work, but more often it comes through blank.

Do I need to encode this? How can I do this? I presume there are characters that are illegal? Any push in the right direction would be highly appreciated.

Inet Post Data

POST Data With Inet
Well I'd like to auth my users into the database on my server by having them connect to a webpage, but the problem is my login page uses POST instead of GET, and I'm not sure how to set that up with inet (or any way at all) with VB6. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

POST Data To A Site Through VB6
I want to post this data:

and view the page that redirects me to. ANY ideas on how to do that would be useful.

Edit: Just to justify this thread, Im doing this for a school project, not a brute forcer. The actual change password bit is done in a java applett so I couldn't use that anyway.

WebBrowser - How To POST Data?
I have a form with a WebBrowser control and a command button with following code.
For some reason it doesn't work. It shows the "The page cannot be displayed" error. Though if I open this page through IE, it displays the contents properly. I wish to get it through the WebBrowser control.

VB Code:
Option ExplicitOption Base 1Private Sub Command1_Click()    Dim vHeader, vURL, vPostData    vHeader = "Content-Type: application/x-www-form-urlencoded" & Chr(10) & Chr(13)    vURL = ""    vPostData = Str2ByteArr("year_cat=2005")    WebBrowser1.Navigate2 vURL, 0, "", vPostData, vHeaderEnd Sub Private Function Str2ByteArr(ByVal sData As String) As Variant    Dim i As Long, iNewBytes As Long    Dim iaByteArr() As Byte        iNewBytes = Len(sData)    ReDim iaByteArr(iNewBytes) As Byte    For i = 1 To iNewBytes         iaByteArr(i) = Asc(Mid(sData, i, 1))    Next    Str2ByteArr = iaByteArr    Erase iaByteArrEnd Function

In IE (or other browser), the above page can be reached from and
then clicking the link named 2005.
But I can't get it in my webbrowser control.

VB - Post - Binary Data

After finding lots of posting on 'how to send data from a vb script to a webserver' I also tried to send a binary file.
.. the result is more or less a pain.

I used:
Inet1.Execute "http://localhost/", "Post", data, "Content-Type: multipart/form-data"
and at least I received the complete data buffer on the server side, but my perl scripts where not able to decode the buffer correctly. I found out that the boundary information is completely missing in the transfered buffer. Do I have to create it by myself and add it to the buffer ? - Or did I forget somthing in the Inet settings ?

I also tried application/x-www-form-urlencoded but that did not work eighter.

(Btw. the perl scripts work fine. I have tested them with Html Forms including file uploads.)

ok .. I hope there is someone out there who can help me to finish this painful job quickly. I wanna get back to my beloved C++.

All the best ..

How To POST Using WebBrowser Control?
I've just discovered the MS Web Browser control which makes use of the following references: AxSHDocVw, Microsoft.mshtml, and SHDocVw. Im trying to get it to make HTTP/HTTPS requests to specific websites. Understanding the GET method was fine but using the control for POST data has been a pain.

To programmtically activate the POST capabilities of the control the MSDN docs mention this:

"The post data specified by PostData is passed as a SAFEARRAY Data Type structure. The variant should be of type Array and point to a SAFEARRAY Data Type. The SAFEARRAY Data Type should be of element type Integer, dimension one, and have an element count equal to the number of bytes of post data."

The method Im using of the control is Navigate:
object.Navigate2( URL As Variant, [Flags As Variant,] [TargetFrameName As Variant,] [PostData As Variant,] [Headers As Variant]);
String URL = "";
Object obj1, obj2, obj3, obj4, obj5;
obj1 = URL;
myWebBrowser.Navigate2(ref obj1, ref obj2, ref obj3, ref obj4, ref obj5);

As I said, using the method for GET requests has been easy enough but using it for POST requests (for instance, logging into my mail account on Yahoo Mail) has been difficult. Exactly how am I supposed to set the "obj4" parameter of the .Navigate2() method? The MSDN doc on setting the object is just too cryptic!

I'd appreciate your thoughts. Im using C#.NET but VB code is completely fine, of course.

POST With Inet Control
i want to send some values to the internet file.

some codes in the file on the internet.

<% =A %>

my vb program....
i use like that...

Inet1.Execute Inet1.URL, "POST", SendMessage("A", "5")

in Inet1_StateChanged....

vtData = Inet1.GetChunk(1024, icString)
strdata = strdata & vtData
Loop Until Len(vtData) = 0
' Save the response to "Return.htm" in the default directory
Re = FreeFile
Open AppPath & "Return.htm" For Output As #Re
Print #Re, strdata
Close (Re)

' Open "Return.htm" with the default browser
Call ShellExecute(Me.hwnd, vbNullString, AppPath & "Return.htm", _
vbNullString, vbNullString, SW_SHOWNORMAL)

but it gives nothing

how can i send a value to the internet files?

Inet Using Post To Send Data VIA PHP

On my website i have a contact form, and i bascially want to emulate that in Visual Basic. I dont know much about PHP, and my friend have me the code which allowed me to make the contact form. In the HTTP this is what the form does...

<form name="form1" method="post" action="CContact.php">

The the PHP takes over.

// headers for the email listed below

$headers .= "From: $name <$email>
"; // your email client will show the person's email address like normal
$headers .= "Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1
"; // sets the mime type
$recipient = ""; // enter YOUR email address here
$subject = "Contact Form"; // this is the subject of the email

$msg = "Name: $name Email: $email QuestionSuggestion: $question";

mail($recipient, $subject, stripslashes($msg), $headers); // the mail() function sends the message to you

//Once the data is entered, redirect the user to give them visual confirmation
header("location: thankyou.htm");

Ive added inet to my form, as i know this is what you need to use to do this sort of stuff. However I don't really know what im doing TBH. Ive changed the protocal to icHTTP, and I know you have have to use...

Inet1.Execute <To PHP File>, "POST"

But i have no idea how to emulate the html form. ANY advice will be greatly appreciated.

How Do You Make A VB Program POST DATA?
How would I make this work...

It doesn't need to output anything or give any feedback, I just wanna get the post part working.

(oh and this uses POST, not GET, so just bunging everything into the address bar won't work)

Using Barcode To Post Data Into Excel
I built an application using Excel and VB programming. The VB programming now reads the cells and assigns the cell values to variables. Instead of typing in the values, I want to be able to scan a barcode and place the value into these same cells (which are assigned to variable names). My questions: Are there any special software, system setup/config setting, or programming required to accomplish this? Or do I simply plug the barcode reader into a port (keyboard splitter), install some drives and that's that - no VB programming changes required???
