SDK VS MSDN Library
Hello everyone,
I was thiking about ordering a Platform SDK CD Online from Microsoft Website. I am a little confused on the SDK Kit. Is this the same material as what is in the MSDN Library or is it more detailed information? The reason I ask I found some sample code and scrips from the msdn library that works great. However, I would like to explore more options with that control and dll. I was wondering if the SDK would go into more detail.

I would appreciate any information on this issue.

Thanks
Dan

MSDN Library...
My PC needs a disk cleanup badly. I must have about a zillion gig of MSDN. My question is this...

If I have more than one version of the MSDN Libray, is it safe to uninstall all of the older versions? Or do the newer versions share the older versions' files?

Thanks

Complete newbie question here. I'm a student and have installed a student
licensed version of VB6. The MSDN library/help files are on a seperate disc
but for the life of me I cannot work out how to get it installed. It doesn't
boot up automatically like the VB6 disc and there are no obvious help files
when I explore the disc.

Problem With My MSDN Library
Hello everyone. I've been struck with quite an odd problem:

When I try looking through the help files in VB 6 (MSDN Library), (which I should note worked perfectly at one point in time) I do not have the option of selecting VB documentation in the active subset combobox. I can select any of the other documentation, but VB seems to have just disappeared from the combo box. I should also point out that "Repository 2.0 Documentation" appears 11 times in the combo box.

I have no idea what's wrong, and I know that by reinstalling I could probably fix the problem. But, I was just wondering if you guys know what the problem is, or what could have caused it.

Thanx

MSDN Library Question
Hi all,

My MSDN Library Visual Studio 6.0 suddely shows many "*Visual C++. Platform SDK and Win CE Docs" but no "Visual Basic Reference' in the Active Subset dropdown list box. Do you have any idea what happened?

I removed it and then re-instal but it can't help. Please advise if you have similar experience before. Thanks.

MSDN Library Problem
Having a problem with my MSDN library. When I look up a VB statement the statement defination comes up OK. But the place where the example, related terms, ect. now shows only as blank little boxes. I have tried reloading visual studio, MSDN libraryies all with no change. It is like the connection to where these items are stored is lost. I am at a loss on this so all help is greatly appreciated.

MSDN Library Viewer
My MSDN Library Visual Studio 6.0 (Help for VB6) has broken. It no longer displays Properties, Methods, Events options when displaying a control (ie: ListBox) definition the way it used to. Instead I get a little box with an "X" in it. I've reloaded the MSDN Library with no improvement.

Does anyone know how to turn these options back on?

Whenever I try and use the help menu in Visual Basic it tells me that the MSDN library needs to be re-installed. How can I go about making it work as it is?

MSDN Library Doesn't Look Right
Does anyone have the following problem with their help.

If I hightlight a keyword in VB6, it goes to the appropriate help page, but
the "Example", "Applies to", etc on the top don't show. It just shows little
misformed boxes in their place. If I click on one of the misformed boxes, it
does nothing.

Also, if I click on an underlined keyword to go to that page, I get an I.E
error "An error has occured in the script on this page". "Object doesn't
support this property or method".

I uninstalled the MSDN library and reinstalled it. Still doesn't work. I
did a repair on my Internet Explorer, and that didn't help either.

I'm running VB6 SP3 on a Windows 2000 machine using Internet Explorer 6.0
SP1.

Has anyone come across a similar problem.

Where Can I Download MSDN Library?
Can someone tell me where I can download msdn library. I'm looking for the help files of MS Visual Basic 6. I belive they are in msdn library.

MSDN Install Help
Hi there folks, I've just got a version of the MSDN CD's, but when I install it (even when choosing to install all files) and run the help, it displays a help saying

"The local disk does not contain the files for "MSDN VS 6.0 Local" as expected. Please update the location"

Then gives you an option to select a folder. Does anybody know whats going on here??

Many thanx in advance

Unreadable MSDN Library Discs For VB 6.0

MSDN Library For Visual Studio 6
It is not the first time that I experience this particular problem. I’m using Visual Studio 6 on Windows XP Pro and am experiencing a problem regarding MSDN Library for Visual Studio 6. On previous installations all was working fine, yet after several recent attempts the links contained within MSDN Library, i.e. “See Also”, “Example” etc. seem to be malfunctioning. I’ve tried reinstalling MSDN Library, tried complete reinstallations (using different installation routines such as OS -> Office -> VS -> MSDN and OS -> VS -> MSDN -> Office and OS -> VS ->MSDN) but nothing seems to reactivate the links.
Does anyone have any advice?

HOW?

January 2002 MSDN Library.
umm, I'm trying to find some info about GET function and I can't. Also standard OPEN function is replaced with FILEOPEN, no reference to OPEN function. What's going? Did Microsoft cut out old VS 6 functions and replaced everything with .NET functions? Or what?

MSDN Library - VB Active Subset Misssing?
Hello there,

I have a strange problem:

When I try to use help files in VB 6 ( I have MSDN Library 6.0a installed and it has worked in the past) I do not have the option of selecting VB documentation in the active subset combobox. It seems as though the entire vb help file has disappeared.

I have tried to re-instrall MSDN which didn't work, then I tried to re-install all of visual studio and msdn and still doesn't work. Can someone shed some light on this for me, I'm getting desperate.

Thank you for your help

Free MSDN Library For Download (from Microsoft)
Disk 1: http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...qtr40enud1.img

Disk 2: http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...qtr40enud2.img

Disk 3: http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...qtr40enud3.img

it works as I have downloaded it and installed it.

Just Read This From The MSDN Library... (about MdiChild Loading..)
(following my previous post)

In the MSDN library it says..

"If you load a Form whose MDIChild property is set to True (in other words, the child form) before loading an MDIForm, the MDIForm is automatically loaded before the child form.MDI child forms cannot be hidden, and thus are immediately visible after the Form_Load event procedure ends."

Does anyone know a way round that? so that I can load up the MDIChild form at start up but not show it?

The main reason I want to do that is cos I have a large form.. and thus it takes time to load. So I want it to load at the start of the program while the users see the splash screen.

Any ideas?

thanks!

MSDN Library Missing Disk 2 / Resolved By KaZaa
Hi,

I purchased VB6 learning edition through an eBay auction and it arrived in a sealed by Microsoft package complete with MSDN Library disk 1 but no disk 2. Microsoft denied knowledge of the missing disk 2 issue and inquired as to where I purchased the software. When informed that it was purchased through an eBay auction they excuse themselves from liability even though it was sealed.

Seeing as how I wasn't learning anything from the learning edition I decided to purchase VB6 Pro which I also acquired through an eBay auction and it arrrived in a sealed by Microsoft package complete with MSDN Library disk 1 but again no disk 2.

I finally got a reply back from a MS representative and he acknowleged that he was aware of the missing disk 2 issue and vowed that he would sent it to me. I received another e-mail that referenced the previous REP and stated that I was not eligable for a replacement disk because I did not purchased the software from an authorized vendor.

Is there anyone in the reading audience that has had this problem and if so were you able to find a means of correcting it?

Visual Studio 6.0 MSDN Library Re-installation Not Working.....
I installed Visual Basic 6.0 and was working with it for a while. I then got to a point where I decided having the MSDN library installed would speed my progress along, so I installed the complete MSDN library for Visual Studio 6.0

Everything was working up until a week ago in which I lost access to a couple of controls and also lost access to the complete MSDN library. I would click the Help menu and would get an error.

Anyway, utilizing help provided from this forum, I performed the following tasks in the order listed:

- unregister the two controls which were "lost" (ie: Richtextbox and CommonDialog)
- uninstall Visual Studio 6.0
- uninstall the MSDN library
- reinstall Visual Studio 6.0
- install the latest VB service pack 6
- reinstall the MSDN library

After doing these steps, my two "lost" controls were know back and I could continue utilizing their functions. As for the Visual Studio 6 MSDN library, everything was loaded except the library information relating to Visual Basic 6.0, which is the only library information I care to access (ie: do not need to access Visual C++, Visual J+, etc... ). I can click on the Help menu and the MSDN library comes up, but if you scroll through the list of libraries included, Visual Basic 6.0 is no longer listed. As a result, I can not look anything up as it relates to Visual Basic 6.0. This makes it hard for a new Visual Basic programmer to really progress nicely. Yeah, I know I can look up stuff in the MSDN library at microsoft's website, but that is very slow and it also seems like it does not provide the same type of "examples" which I have been use to seeing in the local MSDN library stuff.

Anyway, does anyone have any ideas how to get back my Visual Basic 6.0 MSDN library files so I can browse help locally? Do I need to unregister the MSDN library somehow first?

PS: I tried uninstalling the MSDN library for Visual Studio 6.0 and then custom reinstalling only the Visual BAsic 6.0 portion of the MSDN Visual Studio 6.0 data, but that did not work either.

Install ADO 2.5 Object Library
have msado21.tlb and msjro.dll need them installed on a machine for my program to work?? however just copying the files across doesnt work, need them installed where can i find an installable to to this??

please help, program works, just cant install the exe on another machine till this has been sorted, cheers

Access 9.0 Object Library Install.
I just completed my first project where I needed to use the P&D wizard so this inquiry comes from a novice point of view. I developed an application which uses Application.Filesearch from the Microsoft Access 9.0 Object Library, "MSACC9.OLB".

Code:

With Application.FileSearch

.NewSearch
.LookIn = pstrLookIn
.SearchSubFolders = False
.FileName = pstrFileName
.MatchTextExactly = True
.FileType = msoFileTypeAllFiles

If .Execute > 0 Then
LookForFile = True
Else
LookForFile = False
End If

End With

The machine that I developed the program on is a Win98 box with Office 2000 installed. From the Object Browser the path for MSACC9.OLB is C:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOfficeMSACC9.OLB

I used the P&D wizard to package up the application and installed it on a WIN XP Pro box that does not have Office Installed. I noticed that the SETUP.LST is showing that MSACC9.OLB is being installed here:

File5=@MSACC9.OLB,$(WinSysPath),,$(Shared),3/19/99 8:27:10 PM,368640,9.0.0.2719

When running the application I get an "Error # 429 Active X component can't create object". I'm quite sure that the program is bombing during the Application.Filesearch and I suspect that it is because of an error in referencing this file.

I don't have a clue where to begin in correcting this problem. Any ideas?

Thanks,

How To Install/reference Office 10.0 Object Library
I am trying to make my program compatible with Office XP (10.0) as well as Office 2000 (9.0). I have Office XP Standard and Visual Basic 6.0 Professional installed on Windows XP Professional. I have references in my VB project to the PowerPoint 10.0 Object library (msppt.olb) and the Office 9.0 Object libary (mso9.dll).

I read somewhere that I need to reference Office 9.0 and 10.0 object libraries as well as PowerPoint 9.0 and 10.0 object libraries. I don't have the Office 10.0 and PowerPoint 9.0 object libraries in my reference list and cannot locate the appropraite files.

Where do I find these object libraries to reference them? Do they exist?

VB6 Exe Install Issue (install Dependency Files)
Hi,

I have created a VB6 program which installs an Access 2000 database I have created. The database has a front end and backend database.

I have created a VB6 program which will install my program on all machines. The program works successfully over multiple machines. So it's common to install on a server and then some workstations.

The 'exe' I have created, is all you need, to install my program.

I need a way to install all the dependency files without having to install to a default path using the Package and Deployment Wizard. I want to install all dependent files and then the user will click the exe I have created from the CD and it will install the program successfully.

I have not been able to find a way to do this. If someone could please help with a solution I would much appreciate it.

The P & D wizard must install the exe to a default path. I don't want this. All I want to do is have one exe install all the depenent files without any prompts. (seeing most files will go into the Windows System directory it don't want any file in a specific path) When finished the user will click the other exe which will install my program.

Again thankyou for any assistance provided.

Thanks
JT

Actions On Install And Un-Install Of Application
My Application is compiled into an .exe and then put threw the installer (which creates an install file). This application requires a Registry Key (SQL Connection String), which must be created on install (with default value) and removed on un-install.

My problem is how do I perform these actions on Install and Un-Install? (The creating and deleting of the registry key in question) Or must this be done in my application (i.e.: on 1st run) instead?
