Help! Need To Open Acrobat Reader Then Perform Find Operation
HELP!!
Thanks in advance for any and all help. I've got an application that loops through a trip itinerary and picks out each destination. What I would like it to do then is to open Acrobat Reader and automatically either perform a FIND operation looking for that destination as the key word or go to that destination's bookmark in a .pdf document containing a description of each destination. The .pdf document already exists. I don't know how to get my application to open Acrobat Reader and then go find the destination. Essentially, this is like having my application automatically look up a word in a dictionary. I would very much appreciate any help esp sample code. I'm not a beginner at VB but certainly not advanced. Have spent several days now trying to figure this out. Getting to the point of pulling hair out here.
How To Open A Pdf File For Acrobat Reader By Clicking On A Button?
Hello,
I'm writing a VB program for Access, and I would like to realize a "User
Manual" command button so that, when you click on it, the program's user guide (a pdf file for Acrobat Reader) opens.
Do you know if there is some statement or function (to be inserted in the
cmdUserManual_Click() procedure) that allows to do that?
Thank you very much
Launching Acrobat Or Acrobat Reader From Within A VB Program
I publish a computer program that has been written in Visual Basic. I want to view PDF files from within this application. Since I am not a programmer let me explain what I want to do. The user of my program will click on one of about 10 documents that they want to view. These documents are PDF files. I need to know specifically what coding is required to launch Acrobat or Acrobat Reader from within my application no matter whether the user has version 7.0 or any earlier version.

Acrobat Reader: Pdf To Rtf
Hi, everybody.
Well, the issue here is how to save a pdf file in txt format through VB 6. I know that Acrobat Reader can transform the files to rtf. Taking these files in rtf is fine with me since I managed to transform rtf to txt (by using the Word object and the SaveAs method).
But I don't know how to save the pdf to rtf format. Which object do I use? Is there any method relevant with the SaveAs method as in Word object?
Any help would be extremely helpfull.

Automating Acrobat Reader
Is this possible? I suppose it must be, has anyone tried it? Any ideas where one could reference the object model?....or is this not possible b/c it isn't a microsoft product?
Would using "sendkeys" to simulate automation make any sense?....seems as though it wouldn't be terribly reliable to me.

Tracking Down Acrobat Reader
My application needs to open several *.pdf files using Adobe Acrobat Reader. The problem is, users are bound to have different versions of AcroReader installed, each with a slightly different installation path (Acrobat 4.0, 5.0, 6.0, etc), or none at all. I need to find the path to Acrobat Reader, or to be able to decide the program is not installed on the user's computer. How do I do this?
TIA
Saving A File From Acrobat Reader
I have a webbrowser control in my app, and it navigates by posting to reach a pdf file - the pdf file then opens up in reader, inside the browser in my program.
What I need to do is save this file that is open in the reader - I know it can be done with the full version of acrobat - but I need to do it with the reader.
Someone please tell me if this is possible at all.
Tell me if it makes sense that I should be able to find the name of the temp file created by acrobat and rename it and copy it to the directory I want it in.
Thanks for the help - there is very little out there on this.
Because the link is not directly to a pdf file, I cannot get inet or urlmon to work either.

Can this be done in the regedit or something like that?

Finding Acrobat Reader Version
I'm building a PDF viewer using the pdf.ocx. I have used snipet of code from this forum to check if the reader is installed and it works great. I now need to check which version of the reader is installed because the pdf files that will be packaged with the program are encoded so that only Acrobat Reader 5.0 will open them. Any one have any suggestions?

Question About Probrams Like Adobe Acrobat Reader

Hiding The Save Function In Acrobat Reader

Obviously, there are ways around this, but I want to hide it so that the common user doesn't have access to it.
Batch Printing In Acrobat Reader/Exchange
Hey all,
I've got an application that automatically fills out pdf forms using info in text boxes from my program. What I need to do now is have a 'print pdf's' command that will send a print command to Acrobat Reader and cycle through and print all of the open pdf's in the viewer. Is this possible??? I'm pretty new to the whole VB/Acrobat game, so I'm not even sure how to approach this.
1. Useful Utility Speeds Up Acrobat Reader 2. Paypal
1. It really does. (No, I didn't write it. Just passing along a plug.)
http://board.iexbeta.com/ibf10/index.php?showtopic=39984
2. This program calls itself "Donationware". It's free, but if you want you can click a Paypal icon and leave something.
Has anyone done this on their programs? Did anyone pay you?
Finding A Word In Adobe Acrobat Reader
Thanks in advance for any and all help. I'm creating an application right now. I would like it be able to automatically open the Acrobat Reader control and then perform a Find operation for a given word. Alternatively, it could open the Reader and then go directly to a bookmark. Basically, the idea is if I had some kind of dictionary or directory in .pdf format, it could automatically go to the entry I'm looking for. Have done quite a bit of reseach on this and have not figured it out. Any help appreciated esp sample code. Thank you!!

Opening Adobe Acrobat Reader To Display PDF File
Ok, I've searched and found one piece of code that works using the Shell function. However, if doesn't check for different versions of AA Reader.
I also found the following code, but it doesn't work:
System.Diagnostic.Process.Start(FileName)
I get Run-Time Error '424': Object required
I also found some other code but it didn't work either.
Dim proc As New Process
proc.StartInfo.FileName = "AcroRd32.exe"
proc.StartInfo.Arguments = "report.pdf"
proc.Start()
Any suggestions? maybe i need to add a component i don't know about possibly?
Thanks
Controlling PDFs Viewed With Acrobat Reader In The Webbrowser Object
One way of viewing PDFs in VB6 is to use the standard acrobat reader to view them in the webbrowser object (i.e. using pdf.ocx indirectly).
My question is - if one does that by say
webbrowser.navigate "http://www.vbworld.com/bozo.pdf"
how can one send commands to the adobe plug-in to do things like do thing like hiding the toobar etc.
Here is an example of it being done with scripting http://www.borncity.com/WSHBazaar/News5.htm but I'm not familiar with that so I don't know how to convert it to VB6.
Copy All Text From Textbox, Open Notepad, And Automatically Paste To New Notepad Shee
Hello everyone.
I am trying to copy all text, that is already in the textbox, to a new notepad sheet.
Example:
Step 1. Copy all text in Text1 box to clipboard.
Step 2. Open Notepad
Step 3. Paste clipboard to notepad.
All this should be done with one click of a button.
I get as far as copying everything to the clipboard, and it even opens up notepad, but I still have to manually paste (CTRL-V) into notepad.
I would even like it to ask me what name to save it as as well as where to save it at...just like the Save As function in Word or something.
Here is what I have so far.
Private Sub cmdCopytoClipboard_Click()
Dim MyAppID
Clipboard.Clear
Clipboard.SetText Text1.Text
MyAppID = Shell("NOTEPAD.EXE", 1)
AppActivate MyAppID
MyAppID = Clipboard.GetText()
End Sub
Open PDF Through Visual Basic Only Works When Acrobat Prof 8.0 Instance Is Open
Hi all,
Something strange happens to my code (it used to work correctly in the past).
When executing next sample code:
Code:Dim ac_App As Object
Dim ac_AVDoc As Object
Set ac_App = CreateObject("AcroExch.App")
Set ac_AVDoc = CreateObject("AcroExch.AVDoc")
ac_AVDoc.Open "c: emp.pdf", "Test"
I get error message:
Quote:Run-time error '-2147024875 (80070015)'
Automation error
When Acrobat Pro 8 is running everything works fine.
With some sloppy programming I resolved my problem (see code below), but this doesn't seem right to me.
Does anyone know what the reason could be for this?
Code:Dim ac_App As Object
Dim ac_AVDoc As Object
Shell "C:Program FilesAdobeAcrobat 8.0AcrobatAcrobat.exe", vbHide
Set ac_App = CreateObject("AcroExch.App")
Set ac_AVDoc = CreateObject("AcroExch.AVDoc")
ac_AVDoc.Open "c: emp.pdf", "Test"
I've allready checked my register and AcroExch.App, .PDDoc, .AVDoc, etc.. are registrated.
Although, I noticed that there is also an instance of AcroExch.App.1 etc. registrated. Could this be the issue?
(see screen capture of registry in att.)
Hope anyone can help me, 'cause it's getting messy here at the moment !
Thanks in advance.

Detecting Adobe Reader Open With PDF File Open
I use this to close Adobe Reader if the instance of Adobe Reader is open blank (no PDF file Open). How do I detect an instance of Adobe Reader that is open with an unknown PDF file open? Adobe Reader open blank returns a handle base on the window title Adobe Reader. Adobe Reader open with a PDF file open returns a handle base on “What ever PDF file that is open.pdf – Adobe Reader”. Appears I need to read the window title. But how?

Need Help To Open Acrobat From Vb 6
Hi all,
I've installed Adobe acrobat in my system. my application will launch Acrobat using Shell command.[vbcode]shell "C:program filesAdobeAcrobatAcrobat.exe"[/vbcode]I created a package of my application and installed on another system. In that system my application refused to open Acrobat. Since the acrobat is installed on different location. i.e., in my system it was installed in "C:program files". But In remote system it was installed in "F:program files". How can I find the location where acrobat is installed through code. So that i can run my applcation on both the systems without any problems.
Or is there any other way to get rid of this problem?
Thanks in advance.

Want To Open .pdf Files In Acrobat Using VB Controls
I have a column of file names (.pdf) in an Exel spreadsheet. I want to put a control of some sort by each name that when chosen will open that .pdf in Acrobat for the chooser to view. I am assuming the coding for the VB that is included with Exel is the same practice as standard VB. Have I come to the right place for this info and if so can it be done?
Launch Acrobat/open PDF File
I am developing a programme that records data from the user but also provides guidelines for a connected proceedure. These files are in pdf format. I am fairly new to VB but have managed to open excel and word files.
I notice that each type of application seems to need its own coding, I am clueless to what I need to use to launch Adobe Acrobat to view the pdf files.
I hope someone out there can help I am sure someone can. I have looked through lots of related postings but they seem to do more than I need and I get lost in the coding.
Thanks in advance for your help

Not Quite Working Yet - Open .pdf Files In Acrobat Using VB Controls
The code I was given by chrisjk has gotten me half way to my goal (see below). I am now getting hung up at run time by: "Compiler error: Method or data member not found" and this point, .hwnd, is being highlighted in this code-
Private Sub opt1_Click()
ShellExecute Me.hwnd, vbNullString, .....
Does this need to somehow be declared like a vaviable? Will it hang on all the "ByVal"s? I have placed the Function and Const as a (General)(Declarations). I am also using Radio Buttons for controls. Do I need to create a separate module or something like that? I am getting concerned this may be beyond the limits of my knowelege. Any guidance would be appreciated.
CODE:
Private Declare Function ShellExecute Lib "shell32.dll" Alias "ShellExecuteA" (ByVal hwnd As Long, ByVal lpOperation As String, ByVal lpFile As String, ByVal lpParameters As String, ByVal lpDirectory As String, ByVal nShowCmd As Long) As Long
Const SW_SHOWNORMAL = 1
Private Sub opt1_Click()
ShellExecute Me.hwnd, vbNullString, "G:GRP_UPDTIPL ArchiveD Current PDFTrimmersSRMSRM2100_2110_T1_080701.pdf", vbNullString, "G:GRP_UPDTIPL ArchiveD Current PDFTrimmersSRMSRM2100_2110_T1_080701.pdf", SW_SHOWNORMAL
Automatically Open Acrobat Document In Internet Explorer
I have some code already that opens any file in the windows default handler:
Code:
Private Declare Function ShellExecute Lib "shell32.dll" _
Alias "ShellExecuteA" (ByVal hWnd As Long, _
ByVal lpOperation As String, ByVal lpFile As String, _
ByVal lpParameters As String, _
ByVal lpDirectory As String, _
ByVal nShowCmd As Long) As Long
Private Function OpenInDefaultApplication(Filename)
OpenInDefaultApplication = ShellExecute(0, "Open", Filename, 0, 0, SW_SHOWNORMAL)
End Function
What's happening is that links in Acrobat documents are opening new their targets in Internet Explorer, even though the target is another pdf document, then the Acrobat ActiveX activates in Internet Explorer. This is fine and eventually desired, but I would like to see an example or two of how I can open the first original document in Internet Explorer, even though the default application is the actual reader.
Thanks!
